REVIEW: Choppy Filmmaking Sabotages Star Chemistry Just Wright

Testing the versatility of Queen Latifah’s appeal has become something of a cultural, platform-hopping pastime: Hip hop artist, jazz singer, sitcom star, talk and awards show host, (Oscar-nominated) supporting player in a major movie musical, cosmetics model, and finally leading lady in the affecting Last Holiday — her non-threatening likability has made her triple threat about three times over. It’s painful, then, to watch her seeming eagerness to please lead her to streamlined vehicles like Just Wright , a film so tightly rigged that even its star’s centrifugal charms can’t keep you fully checked in.

Jennie Finch Recalls Her ‘Shiny’ ’62 Impala On ‘When I Was 17’

‘My friends had their arms out the windows, thinking we were hard-core,’ the softball pro says. By Jocelyn Vena Jennie Finch Photo: MTV News When you’re in high school, the car you drive can have a big impact on your life in and out the classroom. For pro softball player Jennie Finch, it was where she and her friends felt the most cool. “Back when I was 17, I got the honor of driving our 1962 Chevy Impala,” Finch said of the family car in the new episode of “When I Was 17,” airing Saturday at 11 a.m. “It was completely restored. My dad did it all himself. It was sky blue. Chrome was shiny. The rims were shiny.” It wasn’t just Finch who felt powerful hopping into that Chevy. Her pal Brianna also thought they were pretty fresh in the ride. “We kind of knew it was awesome, just mainly because of all the attention we got in it,” Brianna recalled of their crew in the episode. Jennie admitted she basked in all the attention her Impala got her from the California boys she grew up with. “All the guys at school would be like, ‘Let me ride in your car. Let me check out your car,’ ” she said. “All my friends had their arms out the windows, thinking we were hard-core, rocking in our 1962 Chevy Impala.” On Saturday’s show, Drake talks about how he was an “eBay guru” when he was 17. “I used to call him up and be like, ‘Yo, what are you doing?,’ ” childhood friend Niko recalls during the episode. “And he’d be like, ‘Shopping on eBay.’ ” “When I Was 17” — this week featuring Drake, Queen Latifah and Jennie Finch — airs Saturday at 11 a.m. on MTV.

Queen Latifah Fat Bikini Tits are a Spring Break Disaster of the Day

Queen Latifah, like Precious and Mo’Nique prove that you can make it without actually having anything remotely appealing about you, because I guess hollywood execs like casting the fat, ugly, black chicks, cuz they are racist, while you rarely see the white equivalent on screen…It’s like the world can embrace fat chicks as long as they are black….and apparently as long as they aren’t in a fucking bikini, because this is the kind of thing I’d expect at my Cuban two star all inclusive Spring Break hotel I’d end up in because shit only costs 350 dollars and attracts the quality, not that I can afford 350 dollars, but you get what I am saying, and if you don’t you’re an idiot, because when I think of Spring Break, I forget that for every hot chick, there is an old fat bitch doing shots like she was a young chick….and today that happens to be Queen Latifah….unfortunately….unless this kind of shit turns you on like you’re some kind of racist thinking you’re a slave owner or some other twisted shit that gets girls like Latifah fucked…. Carrie Underwood’s National Anthem Kicks Off Super Bowl XLIV

Queen Latifah performed ‘America the Beautiful’ before Underwood’s rendition of ‘The Star-Spangled Banner.’ By Kyle Anderson Carrie Underwood performs the National Anthem Photo: CBS Carrie Underwood excels no matter what the context. Fresh off her headline-grabbing contribution to the Michael Jackson tribute at this year’s Grammy Awards (where she adroitly weaved her way through Jackson’s “Earth Song”), Underwood took the microphone in front of a sold-out Sun Life Stadium in Miami to deliver a killer rendition of “The Star-Spangled Banner” before the kickoff to Super Bowl XLIV. Before Underwood performed, Queen Latifah sang “America the Beautiful” flanked by a children’s choir. Latifah broke it down during the tune’s finale for a jazz-inflected, gospel-tinged capper. Then it was time for Underwood. Following the presentation of the colors, the “American Idol” alum took the stage wearing a white jumpsuit accented with silver chains and a silver belt. During her performance, the broadcast cut to scenes of soldiers in Kabul, Afghanistan, standing at attention. At the song’s climax, the crowd was treated to fireworks and — in a Super Bowl tradition — a flyover by a quartet of fighter jets. Players, coaches and fans were visibly moved by Underwood’s stellar performance. The singer is the latest in a long line of blockbuster stars who’ve started the Super Bowl with the national anthem. At last year’s game, fellow “American Idol” contestant Jennifer Hudson performed the song before the Pittsburgh Steelers defeated the Arizona Cardinals. Other recent notable “Star-Spangled Banner” crooners include Jordin Sparks (another “Idol” alum), Billy Joel, Alicia Keys, Beyonc
