Casey Kasem Dies; Legendary Radio Personality Was 82

Beloved radio icon Casey Kasem passed away this morning at the age of 82. His daughter Kerri confirmed the news via Facebook, writing, “Even though we know he is in a better place and no longer suffering, we are heartbroken.” Kasem is best known as the original voice of the American Top 40 countdown, and for millions of Americans, Kasem’s trademark voice is as much a part of the history of pop music as the songs themselves. Sadly, in his final days, a legal battle over Kasem’s care  overshadowed the Detroit native’s inestimable contribution to the world of broadcasting. After a long battle with Parkinson’s Disease and dementia,  Kasem was removed from life support earlier this week.  In addition to his famous hit music countdowns, Kasem lent his voice to a number of famous cartoon characters, including Scooby Doo’s Shaggy – a part he played for over 40 years. In 1985, Kasem was inducted into the National Association of Broadcasters Hall of Fame. In 2009 he retired from radio after nearly 60 years behind the mic. As always, he signed off with his signature phrase, “Keep your feet on the ground, and keep reaching for the stars.” Celebrities We Lost in 2014 1. Philip Seymour Hoffman R.I.P. Shade Files: Iggy Azalea Fires Shots At Lorde’s Kurt Cobain Tribute – “She’s Not His Peer…I Don’t Think It’s Appropriate”

Iggy better watch out….we hear #TeamLorde is almost as vicious as the BeyHive…. Iggy Azalea Criticizes Lorde For Kurt Cobain Tribute Australian-born rapstress Iggy Azalea is gracing the latest cover of Billboard magazine…..and throwing a little not-so-subliminal shade at fellow pop star Lorde. 17-year-old Lorde joined Nirvana  for a tribute to late lead singer Kurt Cobain back in April that received rave reviews, but Iggy says Lorde is too young to appropriately honor Kurt. via Billboard In this week’s Billboard cover story, reigning Hot 100 No. 1 artist Iggy Azalea had some critical words for another young superstar who’s no stranger to controversy. The target was Lorde and the topic was her recent collaborative performance with the surviving members of Nirvana at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony on April 10 in Brooklyn. “Nothing against her, but I think when you’re doing a tribute to someone that’s dead, generally it should be the person’s peer,” Azalea commented. “Lorde is not Kurt Cobain’s peer. No matter if she killed the performance or not, I just don’t think it’s appropriate.” Given her recent history of diving into spirited debates about the music industry, a rebuttal from Lorde on Azalea’s comments would not be surprising. Hmmmm. Do you agree with Iggy’s comments? Or does she deserve a ‘ho, sit down’ this time around?

Maya Angelou 911 Call: Caretaker Says Poet Did Not Want To Be Resuscitated

Rest in power Maya. Maya Angelou 911 Call Released  Just before Maya Angelou’s passing , her distraught caretaker called 911 to ask for help. TMZ reports: Maya Angelou had informed her staff she did NOT want to be resuscitated in the event of her death … this according to the caretaker who called 911. The caretaker called 911 to report Maya’s death — but told the operator she was hesitant to perform CPR because the famed poet had previously been crystal clear … when she passed, don’t try to bring her back. The operator tells the caretaker to perform CPR regardless — because Maya didn’t have a “Do Not Resuscitate” order — and the caretaker complied … to no avail. As we reported, Angelou passed away Wednesday at the age of 86. Unfortunately your browser does not support IFrames. So sad, her caretaker was obviously torn between honoring her wishes and wanting to help.

Instead, all we really get here is confirmation that ‘Pac really didn’t fawk with police all the way up until the end. Via TMZ : Tupac’s last words before he died were “F*** YOU” … and he said them to a cop — at least that’s what the cop is now saying. Former Las Vegas Metropolitan PD officer Chris Carroll says Tupac uttered the words to him as the wounded rapper lay dying in the officer’s arms, that fateful day in 1996, moments before he slipped out of consciousness forever. In an interview for VegasSeven.com, Carroll says he had pulled Pac from the passenger seat of the car where he’d just been shot multiple times in a drive-by … he was bleeding everywhere. Carroll says he tried to get Tupac to tell him who the shooter was — asking over and over, “Who shot you? Who shot you?” — but Tupac refused to snitch and replied … “F*** you.” After that, Carroll says Tupac lost consciousness and was taken to the hospital, where he was eventually placed on life support. Carroll says Tupac never said another word. If that’s not going out gangsta, nothing is. Welp…at least he was straight to the point.
