Zoe Saldana Lands Lead Role In NBC Miniseries “Rosemary’s Baby” Actress Zoe Saldana is joining the likes of Kerry Washington and Gabrielle Union in the land of minority leading ladies after landing the starring female role in an upcoming NBC miniseries titled “Rosemary’s Baby,” which is slated to be an adaptation of the popular 60s novel of the same name. via Deadline Avatar and Star Trek star Zoe Saldana has been tapped as the lead in NBC’s four-hour miniseries Rosemary’s Baby, an adaptation of the 1967 best-selling suspense novel by Ira Levin. The mini centers on Rosemary (Saldana), a young wife and would-be mother who, with her husband, moves into a Paris apartment that has a dark past. After finally getting pregnant, she becomes increasingly suspicious that both her husband and their mysterious neighbors have ulterior motives about the future of her child. Mia Farrow played the role in Roman Polanski’s 1968 feature adaptation. “Zoe has proven that she is one of our most gifted actresses, and we think she has the perfect combination of spirit and gravitas to take on the title role from Ira Levin’s infamous novel,” said NBC’s head of longform Quinn Taylor. Sounds like Ms. Pope has all of these big networks suddenly itching to meet their diversity quotas! Teacher Denies Making Racist Remark About President Obama To Black Student The teacher who allegedly told one of his African-American male students with presidential aspirations that the country “didn’t need another black president” says he was misquoted. via Cincinnati News The Fairfield teacher accused of making a racist remark to an African American student will fight the allegations. Fairfield Freshman School teacher Gil Voigt told The Enquirer he has requested a hearing to defend himself against the accusations. According to officials in the Butler County school district, Voigt told a black male student, who had professed his desire to follow President Barack Obama as president of the United States that “we do not need another black president.” Nearby students also reported hearing the comment, according to a Fairfield assistant superintendent who conducted a review on the allegation. But Voigt disputes the accusation, telling school officials that his statement was misquoted by the student, who Voigt said was not a very good student and was troublesome in class. The Ohio University graduate, contended during a meeting with Fairfield officials that he told the student “I think we can’t afford another president like Obama, whether he’s black or white.” Sounds like another case of damage control to us. Interracial Couple Upset Over ‘Jungle Fever’ Note Left By Valet An interracial couple who says they were highly offended after finding a note on their valet parking stub alluding to their swirly relationship as a means of identifying them can now rest easy, as the culprit has been fired from his job. via MyFox Atlanta An interracial couple is upset about words left on a parking ticket stub outside of a restaurant in East Point. A parking attendant at Spondivits wrote the words “Jungle Fever” on the stub. Kandea and Samuel Aarons said they drove from Columbus, Ga. to Atlanta to shop in the area and dine at the restaurant. They said the parking attendant at the restaurant was cordial, but they noticed the writing after they got back home. “To me those words were racially motivated,” said Kandea Aarons. The words are apparently a reference to the 1991 movie “Jungle Fever” directed by Spike Lee. The movie featured an interracial couple and the mostly negative reaction from the community to race mixing. “I was upset but I was mainly disappointed. Disappointed that this is still taking place today. 2014. Especially in the big city of Atlanta,” said Samuel Aarons. The corporate chef of Spondivits told FOX 5′s Morse Diggs that the valet parking company manager confronted an African-American employee that served the couple. He admitted to scribbling the message and he was terminated. This was clearly in poor taste on the part of the former employee, but we have to wonder if a white employee who’d done the same would have been fired as well. Schoolboy Q Says He Wants White People To Say The N-Word At His Shows Via AllHipHop reports: ESPN’s Skip Bayless and the NAACP have tried to kill the N-word but Schoolboy Q has a different approach to handling the N-Word: Let everyone say it at his show. During an interview on The Pete Holmes Show, Schoolboy Q spoke about his feelings on white people reciting his N-word laden lyrics at his shows. According to Q, a large number of White people attend his shows and he revealed his signature way of breaking the ice: I usually stop, because all of the white people be scared to say it. I’ll make them say the hook over and everybody says it. They think I’m some super down to Earth dude when really is I just want you to say it. [Laughs] Yeah, just say it. It’s 2013. I don’t care. Q also reveals an interesting way how marijuana not only saved his life but helped his parenting skills: I was a little too antsy. I’d jump around. Want to go here, want to be there. Once I started smoking weed I just wanted to stay and play the video game and rap. You know what I’m saying? You spend good time with your daughter after you go smoke, go chill with your daughter, you willing to do whatever she willing to do. Do you think Q is right?

Race Matters? White Cop Who Killed Black Man During Hurricane Katrina Acquitted

Where’s the justice? White Cop Aquitted of Killing Black Man During Hurricane Katrina Aftermath Another cop who got away with unjustly killing a young black man. According to NY Daily News: A federal jury on Wednesday acquitted a former New Orleans police officer of fatally shooting a man without justification outside a strip mall in Hurricane Katrina’s aftermath. Jurors for David Warren’s retrial deliberated for 12 hours over two days before acquitting him of a civil rights violation and a firearm charge stemming from the September 2005 shooting death of 31-year-old Henry Glover, whose body was later burned in a car by a different officer. After the verdict was read, Glover’s sister started wailing and had to be carried out of the courtroom. Warren’s family fought back tears. Several jurors also wiped away tears as they left the courtroom. Warren’s family embraced each other. “Oh my gosh, I can’t even get it in my head,” Kathy Warren — David’s wife and mother of their five children, who range from 8 to 15 years old — told a relative who hugged her after the verdict. Warren’s lawyers said he would be released Wednesday from the courthouse and go home with his family. Warren testified Monday that he feared for his life when he shot Glover because he thought he saw a gun in his hand as he and another man ran toward the building he was guarding. Prosecutors, however, said Glover wasn’t armed and didn’t pose a threat. Defense attorney Richard Simmons said the case was always about “a policeman’s worst nightmare, that split-second decision.” “The benefit of the doubt has to go to the officer,” Simmons said, adding that “there’s no winners or losers, there’s just survivors.” We feel for the family. Fourth San Jose State Student Charged With Hate Crime Via Reuters reports: A fourth student at a California university has been suspended for being involved in alleged racially motivated abuse of a black student , an occurrence that has led to student protests on campus. The suspension of the fourth student, which followed suspensions and misdemeanor hate crime charges against three other students, was disclosed by San Jose State University President Mohammed Qayoumi in a statement late Friday. Qayoumi did not identify the fourth student or say whether he might also face charges. The victim in the incident that led to student protests at the campus in Northern California has not been named. Logan Beaschler and Colin Warren, both 18, and Joseph Bomgardner, 19, have been charged with misdemeanor hate crime and battery against their black roommate, Santa Clara County Deputy District Attorney Erin West said. The three freshmen students are accused of using racist terms to refer to the young man, displayed Nazi symbols and a Confederate flag in their suite and once tried to put a U-shaped bicycle lock around his neck, causing him minor injuries when he fought back, authorities said. Qayoumi said he met Friday with the Reverend Jethroe Moore, president of the San Jose/Silicon Valley Chapter of the NAACP and agreed take several steps to address the issue. They will hold a news conference Monday on the criminal charges, host a campus forum on the topic in the first half of December and offer a lecture series next spring on diversity and tolerance. “While these efforts move forward, we are undertaking a comprehensive review of SJSU’s student code of conduct,” Qayoumi said. “Our goal is including race-based misconduct in existing zero-tolerance student conduct policies.” What happened to the “post-racial” America we’re supposed to be living in?

Racist Serial Killer On Death Row Says He Deserves To Be Executed A racist Ohio man on death row for admittedly going a hate-motivated murdering spree back in 1980 is set to be executed tomorrow and he says he deserves to die via USA Today The voice was strong and unwavering, carrying no hint that it soon would be snuffed out, just like Joseph Paul Franklin snuffed out 18 lives during his racist, murderous reign of terror. From Missouri’s death row hours before he is scheduled to be executed, Franklin told The Cincinnati Enquirer in a telephone call Monday he regrets killing two Cincinnati teens in 1980 and that he’s not really worried about being executed. “I ain’t tripping on it,” Franklin said of his execution set for 1:01 a.m. EDT Wednesday. Franklin, 63, was convicted of murders in several states but only faced the death penalty in Missouri where he was convicted of killing a man in a St. Louis synagogue in a sniper shooting. He was honest about his punishment in Missouri. “Yeah, I actually believe that I deserve (to be executed). I ain’t going to deny it,” Franklin said in a 39-minute call late Monday. “I’m hoping for mercy.” He showed no mercy, though, to Darrell Lane, 14, and Dante Evans Brown, 13, as the cousins walked to a Cincinnati-area store in June 1980. Franklin, in the midst of what he called his prolific month of race killings, lay in wait on a railroad trestle for anyone with black skin to walk past. When the boys did, Franklin shot each twice with a .44-caliber deer rifle, blasting holes in their chests. “They just happened to walk by on the sidewalk to tell you the truth,” Franklin said of his Cincinnati victims. “I basically set up an ambush for whoever walked by … I had no idea how old they were.” Surely the families of the people this man killed agree with his hind-sight sentiments.

Is Hollyweird making slavery films to keep Blacks down? Nick Cannon Talks About Slave Movies Via SB Mag : If you’ve been paying close attention to the latest movies centered around black characters for the last few years, you can probably notice a trend. The increasing popularity of slave movies as well as films centered around blacks being maids and butlers is pretty hard to ignore. And although these movies keep finding a way to the big screen to a point of redundancy, they seem to instantly garner critical acclaim and Oscar buzz. Apparently Nick Cannon has noticed the trend too because he recently took to his Twitter account to slam slave movies. And with all the Oscar buzz currently surrounding the hit film “12 Years a Slave” and the recent confirmation that “Roots” will be remade, his timing surely can’t be coincidental. Nick Cannon say he’s disturbed by White Hollyweird’s depiction of Blacks and wants to make a different type of film based on the lives of our ancestors: Do you think Hollywood is continuing to make slave movies to portray Blacks negatively or help narrate our complex and nuanced past?
