Metropolitan Police constable Kevin Hughes, who was based at Newham, was cleared of racially-aggravated offences in November, but has now been dismissed for gross misconduct, the force said. Hughes and fellow constable David Hair were both cleared of using threatening words or behaviour to cause alarm and distress and of racially-aggravated harassment at Westminster Magistrates’ Court in November. Hughes, of Brentwood, Essex, admitted saying a black man looked like a monkey, while Hair was said to have told a black woman colleague he thought she was going to ‘rant’ about overtime and not do any because she was ‘going home to cook bananas’. The two officers were alleged to have used abusive language about black men while they were on patrol. The court hearing was told they referred to each other at ‘Auntie’ and ‘Uncle’ in a sing song ‘Goodness Gracious Me’ accent. On other occasions Hughes said black people were like chimpanzees or Neanderthals. In his defence Pc Hughes claimed he was merely discussing evolution. Chief magistrate Howard Riddle said that while Pc Hughes’s language was ‘unacceptable and offensive’, it did not amount to a criminal offence. And he said that while the insulting nature of Hair’s comment seemed obvious to many, he did not think it was to him. Hair was said to have been ‘mortified’ when Hughes suggested his comment could be taken as being racist. Whatever. Sayonara sukcker!!!!
The iPimps and the eHoes are increasing at a rapid rate among our children Study Shows Sexting Highest Among African-American And Hispanic Teens Via NBCNews More than 20 percent of black and Hispanic teens say they have used their cellphones to send a “sext” message showing a nekkid or semi-nekkid photo or video of themselves to another person, and more than 30 percent say they have received such sex messages, according to a new study. The research was done by University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston, and funded by the Centers for Disease Control and the U.S. Department of Health Services. Why the focus on the two groups? “Although sex messages among U.S. youth has received much popular media attention, there are only limited data on its prevalence among ethnic minority youth,” say the researchers in their study, published online journal, Cyberpsychology, Behavior and Social Networking. The concern about sex messages, the researchers say, is whether it “impacts other behaviors and health outcomes among youth and adults and, if so, what is the direction of the impact.” That said, not every scientist is convinced that sexting will lead to ho-ish tendencies. Balderdash, says Deb Levine, the executive director and founder of the Internet Sexuality Information Services, based in San Francisco, which uses the Internet and mobile apps and texts to share information about sexual health, disease prevention and assault. “From a public health perspective, we have not as yet identified ‘sex messaging’ as a risky sexual behavior as regards HIV, STDs and unplanned pregnancies,” Levine told NBC News. “Therefore, the need to identify young people who sex message seems unnecessary.” In a recent editorial piece, “Sex!ng: A Terrifying Health Risk … or the New Normal for Young Adults?” for the Journal of Adolescent Health, Levine wrote that “If we are to use sex messaging to create relevant health messaging for youth, the messages could focus less on shame and more on mutual consent, communication about sexual desires, and regular testing for HIV and other STDs, especially for sexually active members of high-risk groups.” One thing that is not in question however, is which demographic of people are more likely to be prone to having a lil freaky phone fun. “The results of this study indicate that sex messaging is prevalent among ethnic minority youth,” the researchers said in the study. “ And while the authors acknowledge that more research is needed to understand the context and circumstances of that sex messaging, “the first step in any public health inquiry is to understand the scope and prevalence of a potential health problem. Some data exist on the prevalence of sex messaging among youth in general. However, prevalence data for ethnic minority youth specifically are scarce.” The researchers’ data is based on findings from 1,034 tenth-graders from a “large, urban school district in southeast Texas.” In this new age of technology it’s not only important to talk to your kids about sex, but also “digital sexual activity”. Online sex sites, social networking apps, and unlimited use of smartphones all give young children the ability to do some freaky finger fawking. It’s about dayum time! The folks at the census bureau have finally realized nobody is using the term Negro anymore — especially if they’re Black or African-American. Via NY Daily News reports : After more than a century, the Census Bureau is dropping its use of the word “Negro” to describe black Americans in surveys. Instead of the term that came into use during the Jim Crow era of racial segregation, census forms will use the more modern labels “black” or “African-American”. The change will take effect next year when the Census Bureau distributes its annual American Community Survey to more than 3.5 million U.S. households, Nicholas Jones, chief of the bureau’s racial statistics branch, said in an interview. He pointed to months of public feedback and census research that concluded few black Americans still identify with being Negro and many view the term as “offensive and outdated.” “This is a reflection of changing times, changing vocabularies and changing understandings of what race means in this country,” said Matthew Snipp, a sociology professor at Stanford University, who writes frequently on race and ethnicity. “For younger African-Americans, the term ‘Negro’ harkens back to the era when African-Americans were second-class citizens in this country.” First used in the census in 1900, “Negro” became the most common way of referring to black Americans through most of the early 20th century, during a time of racial inequality and segregation. “Negro” itself had taken the place of “colored.” Starting with the 1960s civil rights movement, black activists began to reject the “Negro” label and came to identify themselves as black or African-American. For the 2010 census, the government briefly considered dropping the word “Negro” but ultimately decided against it, determining that a small segment, mostly older blacks living in the South, still identified with the term. But once census forms were mailed and some black groups protested, Robert Groves, the Census Bureau’s director at the time, apologized and predicted the term would be dropped in future censuses. When asked to mark their race, Americans are currently given a choice of five government-defined categories in census surveys, including one checkbox selection which is described as “black, African Am., or Negro.” Beginning with the surveys next year, that selection will simply say “black” or “African American.” In the 2000 census, about 50,000 people specifically wrote in the word Negro when asked how they wished to be identified. By 2010, unpublished census data provided to the AP show that number had declined to roughly 36,000. We say Hallelujah! We’s free of that old Jim Crow terminology. Via NYDailyNews reports : Brooklyn Assemblyman Dov Hikind was sharply criticized Monday for dressing up in blackface and a large Afro wig to a Purim holiday party he hosted on Sunday. Hikind said the costume, which also included dark sunglasses and a bright orange basketball jersey, was part of a “good fun” celebration of the festive Jewish holiday. “Yes, I wore a costume on Purim and hosted a party,” Hikind wrote on his blog Monday morning. “Most of the people who attended also wore costumes. Everywhere that Purim was being celebrated, people wore costumes. It was Purim. People dress up.” Hikind added he was “intrigued that anyone who understands Purim—or for that matter understands me—would have a problem with this. This is political correctness to the absurd. There is not a prejudiced bone in my body.” But a Brooklyn city councilman, Democrat Charles Barron, said of the costume, “It is racist.” Barron dismissed Hikind’s comments justifying the get-up. “That is a bunch of crap. He is trying to justify his racism,” Barron said. Barron added: “If he wanted to find somebody who liked strange wild and crazy, he should look in the mirror. He didn’t have to pick on us.” A photo of Hikind in the costume was posted on his Facebook page before being removed Monday morning. Hikind told the website Politicker, which first reported that he wore the costume, that a professional makeup artist came to his home to apply the makeup, which proved difficult to remove afterward. The assemblyman said he spent more than 30 minutes in the shower scrubbing his face and still could not remove all of it. “I came out and I wiped my face and I still had stuff on my face. It’s going to take me a while,” the assemblyman explained. “But it’s all worth it, I would do it again in a minute.”. Had a student teacher not intervened, that’s exactly what would have happened at one NY school, but strangely enough it already happened just last month in Georgia . Via NY1 reports : It was quite a homework assignment that a fourth grade teacher at P.S. 59 wanted to give her students last Thursday. It consisted of a few math problems, but Aziza Harding, the student teacher who was asked to photocopy the worksheet, couldn’t believe a couple of the questions. “I’m just like, ‘Wow, this is really inappropriate,’” she said. Question 1 on the sheet, entitled “Slavery Word Problems Homework”, was written as a matter-of-fact subtraction problem. It asked: “In a slave ship, there can be 3,799 slaves. One day, the slaves took over the ship. 1,897 are dead. How many slaves are alive?” The second question had multiple parts multiplication and addition. It said: “One slave got whipped five times a day. How many times did he get whipped in a month (31 days)? Another slave got whipped nine times a day. How many times did he get whipped in a month? How many times did the two slaves get whipped together in one month?” “It shouldn’t be a homework assignment, and I did not want to make copies of this,” Harding said. The teacher who had told Harding to copy the assignment was in a meeting, so Harding made the decision on her own to photocopy another worksheet instead. She left the teacher a note explaining that she wasn’t comfortable with the first assignment and hoped to talk. Then, Harding turned to Charlton McIlwain, one of her professors at NYU, where she is a graduate student. “My first thought was, I don’t believe it,” McIlwain said. McIlwain contacted NY1, and we eventually showed the worksheet to the principal of P.S. 59. She later wrote to us, saying, “I am appalled by this.” But what’s perhaps even more shocking: it turns out this particular worksheet has already gone home, with another fourth-grade class, in January, and the questions had been written by students in that class, as part of their instruction on slavery. “You’re ostensibly teaching or trying to teach history or call attention to a particular historical moment, yet there’s no explanation, there’s no education, there’s no teaching going on,” McIlwain said. “And so, for someone who is probably, at nine years of age, has maybe heard of slavery but probably doesn’t know what it is really like, their first, perhaps, and most lasting impression about this historical event comes in a very abstracted, nonchalant type of thing that they have no real sense of connection to.” The Department of Education released a statement, saying, “This is obviously unacceptable and we will take appropriate disciplinary action against these teachers. The Chancellor spoke to the principal, and she has already taken steps to ensure this does not happen again.” The teacher who created the assignment has been at P.S. 59 for seven years. The teacher who asked Harding to photocopy the worksheet for her students has been teaching in city schools for five years, but is new to P.S. 59. The principal said she’ll be meeting with families and all staff members will undergo related training. The whistleblowing student teacher said she hopes that P.S. 59 students will get help understanding why slavery is a much more serious issue than these simple math problems. “Instead of these kids being desensitized to this type of violence, that they have a general idea that, ‘Wow, this was a terrible thing that happened to a group of people for over 300 years,’” Harding said. After seeing NY1′s story, State Senator Simcha Felder, who is the chairman of the New York City Education Sub-Committee, emailed a statement that read, “While the city, state and unions are busy haggling over teacher evaluations, New York City’s students are being subjected to reprehensible and irresponsible educational materials. I am calling for the immediate removal of these two teachers.” Felder also commended the student teacher for coming forward. SMH… What were they thinking? This is a damned shame. Black Employee Sues for $21,000 After Black Ape Left On Her Desk By Co-Worker An African-American employee who was shunned from a job promotion while her white co-workers were promoted will be laughing all the way to bank to the tune of $21,000. Following her missed promotion, the employee returned to her desk to find a life-sized stuffed black ape on her desk. When her supervisor refused to remove the stuffed animal, she sued for discrimination . Huffington Post $21,000 for a toy monkey? Michigan’s Department of Human Services (DHS) will be fined that amount after a toy ape that was placed on top of an African-American employee’s cubicle was left there for three weeks. The fine was levied by Ingham County Circuit Judge Rosemarie Aquilina after her consideration of a 2010 discrimination lawsuit filed by DHS worker Crystal Perry, the Lansing State Journal reports. Perry had sued after fellow white employees were promoted and she was not, but the judge found no evidence last month of discrimination for that charge. But after learning that a toy ape had been placed in her workspace and was not taken down by her supervisor, however, she fined the agency $1,000 for each day of the three weeks the toy had remained on her cubicle, in addition to Perry’s attorney fees, according to the Associated Press. Perry, who has a master’s degree in human resources and labor relations from Michigan State University, believes the action was racially motivated. Her supervisor said he didn’t know who put the toy on Perry’s work cubicle, according to the news agency. Sounds like this company and its’ racist azz employees got exactly what they deserved. President Barack Obama will join Democratic and Republican congressional leaders next week for the ceremony to unveil a statue of civil rights icon Rosa Parks at the U.S. Capitol—the first statue of an African-American woman in the halls of Congress. In 1955, Parks, a Montgomery, Ala., seamstress, refused to give up her seat on a public bus to a white man. She was convicted of violating the state’s segregation laws, and her legal battle ultimately reached the U.S. Supreme Court, which ruled the bus segregation law unconstitutional. In April 2012, Obama visited the Henry Ford Museum after a campaign rally in Dearborn, Mich. Official White House photographer Pete Souza snapped a picture of the president sitting on the Rosa Parks bus. Republican House Speaker John Boehner and Democratic Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid invited Obama to attend the unveiling. “We will come together to celebrate the life and legacy of Mrs. Parks, whose statue will be the first of an African-American woman in the Capitol,” the lawmakers wrote in a letter to Obama. “This is a national statue and this ceremony will be a national moment, an occasion to recount a watershed event in our history and reaffirm our capacity to confront injustice and lift each other up.” True dat.
