‘You’re always wrong when it comes to girls, you’re always wrong, so just say sorry when things are rough,’ Bieber tells E! News. By Christina Garibaldi Justin Bieber Photo: Lester Cohen/ WireImage Selena Gomez is one lucky lady! With the release of his new single, “Boyfriend,” Justin Bieber is now sharing his own relationship advice, which seems to be working since he and Gomez have been dating for over a year. “To be a great boyfriend, you just have to have patience,” Bieber told E! News . “You’re always wrong when it comes to girls, you’re always wrong, so just say sorry when things are rough.” On Bieber’s latest single , he makes all the girls’ hearts melt when he sings, “If I was your boyfriend, never let you go/ Keep you on my arm, girl, you’d never be alone/ I can be a gentleman, anything you want,” but many are wondering if he had Gomez in mind when writing the track. “No, I mean the song definitely just comes from my heart and whatever that is, whatever is in there,” Justin said. “So, I mean, I’ll never let you go if you’re my girlfriend, I promise.” It seems like Gomez might be sticking around for a while, then! In an interview with Radio Disney’s “Celebrity Take With Jake,” Bieber may have also revealed the secret as to why their relationship is still going so strong. “You just have to be honest, that’s the first thing, because if you’re not honest, then the relationship is just not a good relationship,” Bieber said. “At the end of the day, your girl would appreciate you being honest more than lying to her and vice versa.” It probably doesn’t hurt the relationship when your boyfriend’s idea of a date is to rent out the Staples Center for a private viewing of “Titanic.” So with Bieber gearing up to release Believe and Gomez hard at work shooting “Spring Breakers,” will these two find time to possibly collaborate on a track? “I mean, yeah,” Bieber told Billy Bush Tuesday (March 27) on “Access Hollywood Live.” “If it would happen before, it’s going to happen now. There’s no difference. If we do a song together, we do a song together. It is what it is. I think she’s taking a little break from music for a while. She’s just doing her acting.” Would you want Justin and Selena to collaborate on a song? Let us know in the comments. Related Artists Justin Bieber
Critics praise the album for its ‘pumping pop tunes’ and being Madge’s ‘most personal effort to date.’ By John Mitchell Madonna’s M.D.N.A. Photo: Interscope Madonna ‘s MDNA drops officially on Monday — though it leaked online earlier this week — and many critics are calling the set a return to form for the Queen of Pop. ” MDNA — her 12th studio album — is a collection of thoroughly pumping pop tunes, some of which are slices of sheer brilliance. Not only does Madonna take us to the club with MDNA, she exhausts us, drains us, and confides in us,” Billboard writes in its track-by-track review. “Five minutes after an aerobic workout on the dance floor, we’re in her private booth, where she’s spilling her guts about relationships and how things just didn’t turn out the way they planned.” Slant magazine calls the album “surprisingly cohesive” given the seven different producers who worked on the project, but has particular praise for the tracks produced and written by Madonna and her Ray of Light collaborator William Orbit. “It’s obvious Madge and Billy Bubbles [Orbit] can still create magic together,” the magazine writes. “Songs like ‘Gang Bang’ serve as reminders that what separates Madonna from most other mainstream pop stars is her willingness to try new things,” Slant continues. “Fear — of failure, of looking uncool, of death — can either paralyze or propel you. MDNA finds Madonna continuing to defy the laws of nature by doing both.” In an otherwise middling review, Entertainment Weekly praises Madge’s vocal performance on the album’s love songs, which are parsed out between darker tracks that seem to focus heavily on Madonna’s divorce from Guy Ritchie . EW gives particular props to the Golden Globe-winning Orbit track “Masterpiece” and the “synth stomper” “I’m Addicted,” which it says is “a warm ode to a crush [and] offers a good excuse to join in when she says, ‘I need to dance.’ ” Many critics compliment Madonna’s decision to be so emotionally revealing. She’s gotten personal in the past, of course, but on MDNA, she takes it to the next level. “There’s something remarkable about Madonna’s decision to share her suffering the way she once shared her pleasure,” Rolling Stone writes. “Her music has always been about liberation from oppression, but for the first time the oppression is internal: loss and sadness.” The Poughkeepsie Journal sees that as a natural extension of the best Madonna songs. “Yet in some of her most beguiling songs, Madonna has opened her heart and let her defenses down a bit,” the Journal opines. “Think of the pregnant teenager in ‘Papa Don’t Preach,’ begging for support even as she declares her resolve. Or the giddy lover pledging eternal devotion in ‘Cherish.’ Then imagine that those gals had lived a few more years, maybe married and divorced, and you’ll have an inkling of the emotional wallop waiting in Madonna’s most personal effort to date, MDNA. ” More than anything though, critics seem to be assuring fans that they can breathe a sigh of relief on two fronts: Not only is the album good, it is 100 percent Madonna and no one else. “There’s no denying MDNA delivers thrills. In true Ciccone fashion, club pop pounders like ‘Some Girls,’ ‘Love Spent’ and ‘Turn Up the Radio’ seem to push a bit harder than the competition — that last one’s got a drop like an open manhole,” the BBC writes. ” MDNA also has something the last two Madge albums lacked: ballads, both of which are quite lovely. … Best of all, several moments prompt a welcome sigh: ‘God, only Madonna.’ ” Related Photos Five Key Moments In Madonna’s ‘Give Me All Your Luvin’ Music Video Related Artists Madonna
Lawrence’s conditioning coach talks about the demanding training schedule that whipped the actress into survival-of-the-fittest shape. By Kara Warner Jennifer Lawrence in “The Hunger Games” Photo: Lionsgate In case you’re not already aware, Jennifer Lawrence put in a lot of extra work in her preparation to play Katniss Everdeen in “The Hunger Games.” Lawrence told us herself about all the time she spent training, but she made it seem like it was no big deal. Don’t let her fool you, though; she worked her butt off in preparation. MTV News recently caught up with strength and conditioning coach Joe Horrigan, who worked specifically with Lawrence on the film and gave us the inside scoop on what the hardworking actress did to get all Katniss-like. “I’ve worked on a number of films before to help actors lose weight or prepare for a particular role or even gain weight, so I was asked to help Jennifer on this,” Horrigan said. “Jennifer and [director]Gary Ross had discussed how they felt that she should look, they thought that she should be a little bit leaner — it is, after all, entitled ‘The Hunger Games’ — but she shouldn’t be gaunt.” During pre-production, Horrigan helped Lawrence perfect her running technique during daily workouts, along with strength and endurance training. “She worked with me usually twice a day, and that could be a combination of work at the track, which included agility drills, sprint work and running work, and she also had to work with an archery coach three or four days a week, and in the evening we would do stationary bike work, a mix of anaerobic and aerobic work,” he explained. “At a certain point she had to start working with the stunt crew. They had their own obstacle course and wanted her to be able to hop over trees and climb trees and that type of thing, so she was very familiar with it.” Through it all, Horrigan said he was most impressed with Lawrence’s dedication to the training, along with her positive attitude and work ethic. “She had a genuine excitement about the character and the role, and her opportunity to do this,” he said. “I don’t think she ever saw this as stressful or hard work, she did everything she was asked to do, and never complained.” Horrigan, who has worked with actors in preparation for a variety of films like “The Matrix,” “Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle” and “Savages,” said Lawrence also developed a new perspective on archery. “I think she developed a whole new respect for what elite archers do. I think she started with [shooting] 80 arrows a day. Elite archers shoot about 450 arrows a day,” he said. “That gave her a whole new respect.” And then somewhere along the long road, Lawrence made the transition into her character. “Everything just came together and we all felt that over a period of time she became Katniss.” Do you think you’re in Hunger Games shape? 30 Seconds to Mars, Linkin Park also headline the loaded South, but only one will win. Vote in all first-round matchups now! By James Montgomery Evanescence’s Amy Lee Photo: Getty Images We’re entering the homestretch of first-round voting in the 2012 MTV Musical March Madness tournament — polls close on Sunday at midnight ET — but there’s still time to help guide your favorite band to victory … or at least to round two. Vote for your favorite band, discuss and share on Facebook and Twitter in the MTV Musical March Madness interactive bracket! Because as history has shown us time and time again, there are no guarantees when it comes to MMM, as heavily favored bands fall by the wayside and unheralded underdogs make deep tourney runs. Of course, it’s all up to you — you can spread the word by downloading one of our custom MMM badges , or by using the hashtag #MMM on Twitter — but to help with any last-minute decisions, we’ve spent all week breaking down each of the March Madness regions. We started with the mighty Midwest and moved on to the wild West and the erudite East . Today, we’ll close with the down-and-dirty South, which has produced both the 2010 champion, Coheed and Cambria, and the 2011 runner-up, Paramore. And this year, well, it looks like that tradition could continue. Because the 2012 South region once again features not only Paramore but Evanescence (who might very well be the team to beat) and MMM powerhouses like 30 Seconds to Mars and Linkin Park too. One of those four bands is going to advance to the Final Four … and stands a pretty good chance at winning it all. But we’re getting ahead of ourselves. Here’s a look at all the first-round matchups in a very loaded South. #1 Evanescence vs. #16 Alabama Shakes : Pity the ‘Bama Shakes, who were playing near home but drew the all-powerful Evanescence in round one. Not surprisingly, this one was over early, and given EV’s 17,000-vote cushion, we’re thinking they’ll advance to round two. In fact, they might not be challenged until the Sweet 16, with a potential matchup against Linkin Park looming. #2 Paramore vs. #15 Gotye : Sure, Gotye spent the weeks leading up to MMM practicing his pick-and-roll , but when the tourney began, he got appropriately rolled by Paramore, who clearly have bigger things on their minds. Much like Evanescence, they won’t face a tough opponent until the Sweet 16, where they’ll probably meet 30 Seconds to Mars. #3 Kings of Leon vs. #14 Phoenix : Will this be the year the Kings make a deep run in the tourney? Um, probably not. For the second time in three years, they appear headed for a first-round exit, this time at the hands of Phoenix, who hold a pretty hefty lead. Surprisingly, this would be the third-straight year they make it to round two … the trick now seems to be figuring out how to advance from there. #4 Jack White vs. #13 Shinedown : White goes it alone in MMM 2012, and so far, he’s finding it tough to shoulder the load. He owns a slim lead over upset-minded Shinedown, who look to continue the recent trend of heavy bands going deep in the tournament. Though they’re trailing, we like Shinedown’s spirit, and we’re picking them to knock off White and advance. Vote for your favorite band, discuss and share on Facebook and Twitter in the MTV Musical March Madness interactive bracket! #5 Linkin Park vs. #12 At the Drive-In : Last year, LP made it all the way to the Sweet 16 before getting bounced by Paramore. This year, we’re pretty confident they’ll make it past ATDI in round one (they’re up by some 12,000 votes), but the selection committee certainly didn’t do them any favors after that: They’ll have to get past Evanescence if they want to finally taste the Elite 8. #6 30 Seconds to Mars vs. #11 Sleigh Bells : Obviously, the selection committee has it out for the poor Sleigh Bells, who drew Linkin Park in the opening round last year and got 30 STM this year. As you’d probably expect, Jared Leto and company hold a sizable lead here and are locks to move on. Again though, Paramore await in the Sweet 16. #7 Cage the Elephant vs. #10 Ke$ha : A surprisingly competitive 7/10 battle unfolding here, as Cage crept to the early advantage, then watched as Ke$ha — and her Kegels — roared all the way back to take the lead. This one’s still too close to call, though perhaps this is finally the year Ke$ha advances to round two. #8 My Morning Jacket vs. #9 Dave Matthews Band : This potential Birkenstock-burner has basically been a snoozer (our lowest-voted opening-round matchup), which may have something to do with MMJ and DMB fans being too, uh, sleepy to vote. It’s the DMB by a bong rip so far, though given that the winner of this contest gets Evanescence next, well, does it really matter who wins? MTV’s 2012 Musical March Madness Tournament is under way! Voting in the first round runs until midnight ET on Sunday, March 18, and winners are determined by fan votes, so if your favorite act made the cut, it’ll be up to you to guide them to glory. You can rally the troops on Twitter using the hashtag #MMM or by downloading one of our custom badges — but get ready, it’s gonna be a war! Related Videos Musical March Madness Returns! Bieber will let his fans pick which photo he uses for the song, out March 26. By Jocelyn Vena Justin Bieber Photo: Valery Hache/ AFP/ Getty Images Ever dreamed of being Justin Bieber ‘s art director? Well, the singer is giving his fans that opportunity. Bieber has released two photos and requested that fans choose which will be the official art for his next single, “Boyfriend.” The photo that receives the most fan tweets wins. Biebs dons a gray checkered top over a gray T-shirt in both photos, but it’s the pose that really differentiates the two shots. In one, he stands looking away from the camera, his hands at his side. In the other, he’s looking to the camera, his hand running through his famous hair. The Mike Posner-produced track will drop on March 26. It’s the first single off his forthcoming album, Believe , out later this year. Bieber hit the studio with a number of A-listers for the album, including Maroon 5’s Adam Levine and super-producers Diplo and Ryan Tedder, plus will.i.am, Drake and Lil Wayne. “You can’t really expect anything from my album. It’s really, really different,” Bieber told MTV News. “And it’s new; it’s not the same thing everyone’s used to hearing right now on the radio. It’s really exciting for me, ’cause I’m able to break out of my shell and show my fans what I’m all about and show other people who might not like my music that maybe they can like my music. “I’m not trying to lose any of my young fans,” he continued. “I’m not trying to lose any of my fans, I’m just trying to gain fans, and I think that’s the best way to do it. Rather than try to grow up and lose your fans, you can get better and evolve and gain respect from more people.” Which Bieber photo do you think he should use as the cover art for “Boyfriend”? SMH! Receipts are supposed to prove that a customer bought an item at a store. However, one Radio Shack employee allegedly gave a woman an additional message on her receipt: One calling her an “ugly itch” from “Ghettohood, USA.” Shanae Lewis of Baltimore got the disturbing message on Monday when she went to a Radio Shack in nearby Montgomery County, Md., to buy a $20 cassette adapter for her car. The county has a five-cent bag tax on top of sales tax that Lewis was unaware of, so, according to WUSA-TV, she went back and forth with the clerk before deciding not to buy the adapter at all. She said what happened next is one of the worst examples of bad customer service anyone has ever seen, according to Consumerist. It seems when the salesman gave Lewis back her money, he also gave her a receipt for the refund, at the bottom of which he apparently typed in “ugly itch, ghettohood, usa, tattoville, Maryland.” The salesman reportedly claimed he was only kidding, but Lewis was, and remains, unamused. “I was shocked more so than anything, and then I became angry,” she told WUSA-TV. A RadioShack official told WUSA that after seeing the story, it took “the strongest possible disciplinary actions,” but did not specify what they were. In an email response to the station, RadioShack wrote: “Based on descriptions we’ve seen in the media, this incident obviously does not meet RadioShack’s expectations for customer service.”It added, “The Company has made several attempts to contact the customer involved and offer her a personal apology. So far we’ve been unable to connect, although we have conveyed our regrets to another person in her household.” Lewis may be able to forgive, but not forget. She said Radio Shack has lost a customer. “I want nothing to do with Radio Shack ever again,” Shanae said.
