Ashton Kutcher Actually Reaches Out to Demi Moore

His marriage may not have worked out, but Ashton Kutcher may not be a complete jackass. He’s reached out to his estranged wife since she left her nearly month-long stint in rehab last week and the the duo has been in close contact. Demi quietly and briefly returned to her Beverly Hills home, spending just a few days in L.A. before embarking on a recuperative vacation to Turks and Caicos. During that window, she received a visit from Kutcher. “He came to her house to see her for about an hour and a half,” a source told E! News . The couple is getting along well, although they’re showing no signs that they’ll be back to any romantic habits. A source says that a reconciliation is unlikely. But that doesn’t mean Ashton may not drop by again. Kutcher remains on friendly terms with his ex, and is “determined to build upon that,” however, her daughters are “no longer close” to their former stepdad. Must not be Two and a Half Men fans. Shocking.

Hear it for yourself right here: Madonna – I’m Addicted Meanwhile, there are rumors running rampant that “I Don’t Give A,” also from the singer’s upcoming disc, is actually a dig at ex-husband Guy Ritchie. According to the New York Post, the tune includes such lyrics as: “I tried to be a good girl / I tried to be your wife / Diminished myself / Swallowed my light / I tried to become all / That you expect of me.” “And if it was a failure / I don’t give a [bleep].” Certainly one way to get people talking. Rush Limbaugh Actually Apologizes to Sandra Fluke

Now we know what it takes to make Rush Limbaugh issue an apology: money. Or a lackthereof. Facing the loss of sponsors following his referral to Sandra Fluke – a Georgetown student who tearfully explained to the press last week why health insurance companies should cover the cost of contraception – as a slut , the radio host actually took to his website yesterday and wrote the following: “For over 20 years, I have illustrated the absurd with absurdity, three hours a day, five days a week. In this instance, I chose the wrong words in my analogy of the situation. I did not mean a personal attack on Ms. Fluke. I think it is absolutely absurd that during these very serious political times, we are discussing personal sexual recreational activities before members of Congress. I personally do not agree that American citizens should pay for these social activities. What happened to personal responsibility and accountability? Where do we draw the line? If this is accepted as the norm, what will follow? Will we be debating if taxpayers should pay for new sneakers for all students that are interested in running to keep fit? In my monologue, I posited that it is not our business whatsoever to know what is going on in anyone’s bedroom nor do I think it is a topic that should reach a Presidential level. My choice of words was not the best, and in the attempt to be humorous, I created a national stir. I sincerely apologize to Ms. Fluke for the insulting word choices.” Is Limbaugh still wildly off base? Of course. Fluke is pushing for health insurance companies to cover birth control, not American citizens. And her argument is based around non “social activities,” specifically the case of how contraception can assist with medical conditions such as ovarian cysts. And why doesn’t Rush create a similar stir over health insurance companies covering Viagra? Still… the guy apologized. That’s amazing. Sadly, this also means the Mayans were correct: the world is clearly about to end.

Maryland to Pass Gay Marriage Bill This Afternoon

A hard fought measure to legalize same-sex marriage will officially be signed into law in Maryland today. The signing is set for 5 p.m. in the State House. A marriage bill came within a whisker of passage in 2011, but was shelved in the House of Delegates at the last minute when leaders fell a few votes shy. Securing those “few votes” this year took up much of the first 45 days of Maryland’s General Assembly’s legislative session, but it eventually got done. Gov. Martin O’Malley will sign the bill into law today. Though both the House and the Senate chambers are dominated by Democrats, same-sex marriage was not an easy sell for the Democratic governor. Even with the governor’s signature today, same sex couples won’t get Maryland marriage certificates until the law goes into effect in January 2013. There’s also the threat of a vote to overrule the law. Fired-up opponents have pledged to collect 100,000 signatures opposing the bill by June 30. That’s about twice what they would need to trigger a state-wide referendum on the controversial topic, which would appear on the ballot in November. Maryland joins Massachusetts, Connecticut, New York, New Hampshire, Vermont, Iowa and Washington in permitting same sex marriage rights. California’s controversial Prop 8, which banned same sex marriage, was recently declared unconstitutional , but faces a protracted appeals process.

Selena Gomez to Justin Bieber: Happy Birthday, BFF!!!

Justin Bieber turned 18 today, and he just received the best birthday gift of all. No, not this new car , although that was pretty cool of manager Scooter Braun to present. We’re referring to best wishes from the most important young woman in his life, girlfriend Selena Gomez. “Happy birthday to my best friend in the whole world!!! Have a great birthday baby!” Selena Tweeted this afternoon, attaching the following photo of the couple with her message: Things are clearly going VERY well for Justin and Selena, but not that well. The former cleared up any engagement talk this morning with Ryan Seacrest. Bieber told the radio host: “First and foremost, I’m not engaged. You know, we’re still young, at this moment in time, this is where I am, so that’s all I can really say.” Fair enough. This is all we can say in response to the photo above: AWWWWW!

Kanye West Tops The-Dream’s Hottest MC List

Jay-Z is ‘so far up there it’s almost a discredit putting him on the list,’ The-Dream tells ‘RapFix Live.’ By Rob Markman, with reporting by Sway Calloway The-Dream Photo: Natasha Chandel/ MTV News When MTV News crowned Rick Ross the #1 Hottest MC in the Game, the entire hip-hop community seemed to take notice. The-Dream , who worked with a number of the artists on our Hottest list, including Big Sean, Drake and Jay-Z, has his own pick and revealed to “RapFix Live” who he believed should’ve taken the #1 spot. “The top MC in the game to me is Kanye ,” he said. Last year Yeezy dropped the groundbreaking tag-team album Watch the Throne with 16-year rap veteran Jay-Z. For The-Dream, it’s hard to judge Hov simply because he has done too much in his career. So if it were up to the Atlanta-based singer/songwriter, he’d leave the God MC out of the debate entirely. “Jay shouldn’t even be on the list anymore,” The-Dream argued. “He’s so far up there that it’s almost a discredit putting him on the list. He’s never gonna be judged the same.” The term “hot” is a relative one, and according to The-Dream, the heat index can change quickly. “That list is gonna keep fluctuating, but I think it’s a disservice to what Jay has done to even put him on that list period,” he said. “If he was a new rapper, right now, he’d be #1 on the list.” With Hov taken out of the discussion, the self-proclaimed Radio Killa, who also wrote on ‘Ye’s “All of the Lights,” sees his pal Kanye at the top of the game at the moment, but it’s close; he also believes Lil Wayne has a case as well. “I think Wayne and Kanye kinda go back and forth, it just depends on when Wayne’s up for it, I think. When you push him and he’s up for it musically he’s great,” The-Dream said. “Then there is certain points … they’re pushing each other and then Kanye goes. There’s something musically I can tell when somebody has an edge on someone else.” Who tops your own personal Hottest MCs list? Tell us in the comments! Carly Rae Jespen Music Video Features Justin Bieber, Selena Gomez, Ashley Tisdale

Justin Bieber owes his fame and fortune to Usher, who discovered the Canadian singer based on a series of homemade YouTube videos. Now, the teenage icon is returning the favor, hoping to become a mentor to a young woman named Carly Rae Jespen. The Biebs helped sign Jepsen – last year’s runner-up on Canadian Idol – to Schoolboy Records, the label run by Justin’s manager, Scooter Braun, after hearing the track “Call Me Maybe” on the radio. “She’s gonna blow up,” Bieber said last week on his native country’s MuchMusic. And he’s doing all he can to help with said blowing up, teaming with Jespen and a couple other friends – Selena Gomez and Ashley Tisdale – on the video for “Call Me Maybe.” Watch it here: Carly Rae Jepsen (Featuring Justin Bieber, Selena Gomez, Ashley Tisdale) – “Call Me Maybe”

Drake Kills The Game To Take #2 In Hottest MCs Debate

YMCMB standout was ‘On One’ this year, from undeniable features to Take Care. By MTV News staff Drake Photo: Getty Images Drake says his only cares are money and his native Toronto, but judging from the way he showed out in 2011, you have to figure rap dominance was pretty high on his list too. Drizzy definitely got his money and went to great lengths to put the city where he’s from on the map. Those efforts helped Drake clinch the #2 slot on MTV News’ Hottest MCs in the Game VII list. “A lot of times artists are faced with a sophomore slump. I think Drake surpassed it and probably had one of the best hip-hop albums of the year,” said Steven Roberts, MTV News producer/writer, about the chart-topping Take Care. Although Drake didn’t drop the November 2011 project until the fourth quarter, he maintained a serious presence all year: whether through personally leaked tracks like “Dreams Money Can Buy” and “Trust Issues” or high-powered collaborations like Future’s “Tony Montana,” Lil Wayne’s “She Will” and DJ Khaled’s inescapable summer smash “I’m On One,” which spent 13 consecutive weeks at #1 on the Billboard Rap Songs charts. Want to join the debate? Just hit us on Twitter using the hashtag #HottestMC! “Try to imagine what radio would sound like this past year if you removed Drake from the equation,” said Rebecca Thomas, MTV News editor/writer, issuing a challenge. HOT STREAK Album: Take Care Selected Mixtapes: None Singles: “Headlines,” “Make Me Proud” (featuring Nicki Minaj), “Take Care” (featuring Rihanna) Street Bangers: “Marvins Room,” “The Motto” (featuring Lil Wayne), “Lord Knows” (featuring Rick Ross) Key Guest Appearances: DJ Khaled’s “I’m On One,” Waka Flocka Flame’s “Round of Applause,” Future’s “Tony Montana,” Rick Ross’ “Stay Schemin’ ” Meteoric Metrics: Besides scoring a platinum plaque for Take Care, Drake crushed Billboard with top 10 singles like “Take Care” and “Make Me Proud.” Business Ventures: Drake further established his OVO brand; helped introduce Toronto singer the Weeknd to the masses Tours: Drake kicked off his intimate Club Paradise Tour on Valentine’s Day 2012 Monumental Moment: Drake beat the sophomore slump with a #1 debut for Take Care, selling 631,000 units in the first week Forecast: Drake claims he’s already started writing his third album. And if his and Ross’ Y.O.L.O. ever sees the light of day, expect another year of dominance from Aubrey. Rahman Dukes, MTV News’ director of hip-hop news, answered the call: “You wouldn’t even know that he didn’t have an album out [early last year] because he was all over the radio.” Drake’s dominance is well-documented, from SoundScan success to extraordinarily extensive radio play. As an artist, the Young Money standout blends R&B melody and alternative sensibilities with an MC’s bravado. While still spitting bars with some of the game’s most highly regarded lyricists, his emotive writing style made it acceptable for rappers to dish out their feelings (though Common might disagree ). Still, while the Toronto rapper meets all of the criteria to be considered hot, some members of the Hip-Hop Brain Trust wondered whether his penchant for singing was a strike against him in competition with purebred MCs? After all, Take Care was equal parts rap and R&B. “In this debate, he loses points for that,” said Rob Markman, MTV News’ senior hip-hop writer, of Drake’s crooning. It’s doubtful Drake will change, though, nor do fans want him to — his musical duality has been a major selling point. It not only led to his deal with Lil Wayne’s Young Money, it helped launch him to international stardom. Now the whole world knows his name. Shelia Grullon, music programming coordinator at MTV, put it simply: “I think before he was kinda off of Wayne’s heels and now he just held his own.” What do you think of our list?
