Joe Jonas, Jennifer Love Hewitt Cozy Up In ‘Cleveland’

On the JoBro’s latest episode of ‘Hot in Cleveland,’ premiering Wednesday night on TV Land, his and Hewitt’s characters get engaged. By Kara Warner Joe Jonas Photo: MTV News Jet-setting actor/musician Joe Jonas has once again made time in his busy schedule for a little stop through Cleveland — “Hot in Cleveland,” that is, the popular show on TV Land starring Valerie Bertinelli, Betty White, Wendie Malick and Jane Leeves. Jonas has a guest-starring role on the sitcom as the wayward son of Bertinelli’s character. MTV News was lucky enough to visit the set of “Cleveland” on the day Jonas filmed his second guest spot, which premieres Wednesday night (January 25) at 10 p.m. ET. When we caught up with him for a few minutes between scenes, he shared some details about his return to the show. “Being back on the show, [my character Will is] engaged, and I have to be engaged to Jennifer Love Hewitt, which is really nice,” he said. “We’re both sons and daughters of characters on the show, and we show up and surprise everybody. They don’t expect us to be engaged.” Jonas said that while it was fun to work with Hewitt, their characters’ engagement doesn’t exactly last for long. “Both of our characters are really different. I think I’m a little bit blinded by the fact that she may not be the perfect person for me. I think we last probably less than Kim Kardashian in this,” he joked. Long engagements or no, Jonas said he loves his time on the show and would be happy to come back any time. “I would love to be able to return again. The first episode when I left, people were like, ‘Are you going to be back soon?’ and I said, ‘I think so.’ I don’t think my character passed away, so I think we’re good. I don’t die in this episode either,” he added. “So I’m still around, so I could definitely come back if they’d like me to. I have a fun time being on the set and I love the cast; it’s kind of like a family.” Are you excited to see Joe in “Cleveland” again? Let us know in the comments! Related Artists Joe Jonas

The event marks the first time the ball has been held in the U.S. and also is Brand’s first scheduled appearance since he and Perry split in December; the “California Gurls” hitmaker has already made a pair of public appearances, first filming an Adidas commercial earlier this month and then returning to the stage for a concert in Jakarta, Indonesia . Check out photos of Russell and Katy from happier times. But Nick came clean and said it all started with comments the comedienne made about his wife. Nick and Chelsea eventually made up when she called into his radio show, but it seems the beef has been reignited. Nick took to his Twitter account this morning and tweeted @chelseahandler to let her know she needed to stop talking ish about Mariah again. He tweeted: Good for you Nick, live your life! AVN and ANE and AEE 2012 in Vegas of the Day

I did the porn convention…it was amazing. From hot, trashy, disgusting, amazing, young, old, fake tit, real tit bitches to greasy sleazy pimp, virgin loser porn addicts and just a whole mix of people …. I stayed entertained… I did the porn awards…it was amazing…long and drawn out and lacking someone like me to really bring it home with my great jokes…. I gave my all access pass to an older dude named Jose. See cuz I had no photographer and an hour before the event approached him outside the venue….. I have no idea if he will send in the pics, but when he does, or if he does, they’ll go up here….In the meantime here are some pics from the convention that I got with my shitty camera… Pornstars ignored me, Jessica Drake praised me then ignored me when I told her to unblock me on twitter, I didn’t watch pornstars fuck, Dave Navarro didn’t say hi to me, even though I did his radio show once….but if I make it through the year, I got big plans to make next year better….hell if I survive the rest of this trip I got big plans….which I probably will cuz I’m ridiculously well rested….thanks to the Hardrock Casino beds…but you never know…the cheap liquor and women is everywhere…. Here are some shitty pics I took of the adult expo….you need to understand….this went on for 4 days….8 hours a day…insanity everywhere….this is barely a glimpse into it…

Fedde Le Grand Talks Remix Anthems, ‘Dark Light Sessions’

‘Music and the whole process of music itself should be organic,’ Dutch DJ/producer tells MTV News. By Adam Stewart Fedde Le Grand Photo: Flamingo Recordings A course in Fedde Le Grand 101 would have to include the hit “Put Your Hands up for Detroit” and a track that proved to be dance-floor gold for the Dutch DJ/producer, 2007’s “Let Me Think About It.” But Le Grand loyalists know that he scored those smashes while appeasing the underground with bombs like “Amplifier” and “Control Room.” Now, he’s bringing that particular alchemy to his “Dark Light Sessions,” a new show on Sirius XM’s Electric Area. MTV News recently caught up with the Flamingo Recordings founder, and he talked about the kickoff of “Sessions” last November. Le Grand also opened up about his big 2011, detailing how he’ll top himself in the months to come. “Not everyone can come to your shows,” Le Grand told us of creating the radio series, which launched its third installment last Friday; the next is due mid-February. “I think it’s such a great way to show or let people hear your view on music at the moment, because it’s very current.” The advent of “Dark Light Sessions” was a fitting cap to a major year for Le Grand, whose massive re-works topped the Beatport.com charts on more than one occasion. His 2011 was highlighted by remixes of Coldplay’s “Paradise” and his summer anthem “So Much Love,” a remix of “Love’s Such a Wonderful Thing” by the Real Thing. Of “So Much Love,” Le Grand explained, “I found the original sample from the ’70s band. I just loved the re-work Tom Bangalter did before it was one of my favorite tracks. So, for me, it only made sense to put it more in a ‘now’ kind of way, so I could play it again. We were able to clear the original sample and that’s how it started.” While sampling and bootlegging are key tools for the thriving dance music industry, the SOPA (or Stop Online Piracy Act) legislation could have far-reaching consequences for the genre. Le Grand said he encourages practices like sampling, though, and the growing desire to reincarnate classic dance tunes. As an example, he pointed out Arno Cost’s “Body Rum,” which is derived from a bootleg of Le Grand’s “Metrum.” “I actually only support it. I play that edit; I think it’s great,” he said. “Music and the whole process of music itself should be organic,” he added. “I had the same thing about two years ago with a track I did called ‘Amplifier.’ Someone put a vocal on it and it kind of went its own way. So I think it’s great that things keep evolving and recycling that way.” But it isn’t just bootlegs and remixes that are keeping Le Grand busy these days. Along with label co-founder and fellow producer Funkerman, the Flamingo Recordings imprint has helped usher in some of the most influential music the genre has heard in years, staying away from the all-too-familiar progressive house blueprint. Joining Flamingo alumni such as Baggi Begovic, Rene Amesz and vocalist Mitch Crown is recent sensation Deniz Koyu , whose records are currently smashing eardrums the world over. When Le Grand first heard Koyu’s “Grunge,” he assumed he had been signed for years. “My mind was just blown by the sound and everything. It’s a record that works really well and still has a coolness to it,” he said. Le Grand and Koyu have been busy in the studio with Johan Wedal getting ready for the release their latest three-way collaboration, “New Day.” And one can only imagine who the boys brought into the studio behind closed doors “I have a whole lot of people I’d love to work with,” Le Grand said, listing Sia and Janelle Mon

‘American Idol’ Experts Suggest Season 11 Upgrades

Shorter audition episodes and less judge talk are among suggestions. By Gil Kaufman “American Idol” host Ryan Seacrest and judges Jennifer Lopez, Steven Tyler and Randy Jackson Photo: Tony Duran/ FOX It’s hard to know what needs fixing on a show that has held the #1 spot in the ratings for seven consecutive seasons. But every year around this time, Monday morning quarterbacks line up to suggest ways for “American Idol” to get its groove back. Yes, “Idol” is starting to look gray around the temples in comparison to hipper, flashier competitors such as “X Factor” and “The Voice.” But maybe that’s the way producers want it, and unlike last season — when they dropped the age cutoff to 15, added new judges Steven Tyler and Jennifer Lopez, took the top 60 to Las Vegas and returned the “wild card” round — there has been no hint yet that big changes are slated for season 11, which kicks off Wednesday night (January 18) with the first audition episode. Whether they take our advice or not, MTV News asked a few of our favorite “Idol” experts to make five suggestions for how “Idol” can keep the fire burning. Village Voice music editor Maura Johnston Shorten the audition period : “Something that gets people invested in the contestants earlier,” said Johnston, pointing to the quicker triggers on competing shows. “In any reality show where there’s more than 10 people competing, it does get confusing, so they really need to get to the point faster.” Shake up the results show : “It’s so long now. I know it does well in the ratings, but two minutes of content in a 60-minute bag creates its own viewer fatigue. They could put all the Ford ads and fake suspense in there in a half-hour and use the extra half-hour for something else.” Sing the same song : “When it gets down to 10 people, what if you had them all sing the same song to see the different ways they approach it?” Johnston wondered. “In the post-David Cook era, with its emphasis on artistry and transformation of songs, it would be great to see a side-by-side comparison [of the contestants’ styles] to see their strengths and weaknesses.” Less judges talk : “The judges should talk about themselves less. They would get mired in discussion about themselves and try to elevate themselves above the singers. The same thing happened on ‘The Voice,’ too, where ‘Moves Like Jagger’ [became bigger than the contestants]. It was great for Maroon 5 and Christina, but it took the shine off Javier [Colon]’s win.” On the road : “Maybe take the show on tour for a week and bring it to New York and set it up at Radio City Music Hall and have a live audience made up of completely different people. It would be special because it would be the first time in ‘Idol’ history they’ve done this, and you’d get the same vibe because it’s live on TV in front of an audience, but you’d also get a mystique surrounding it that would be a lot more charged.” Hollywood Reporter music editor Shirley Halperin had some similar ideas, with a few added twists to mix it up Real talk from judges : “I would like to see them talk to the contestants the way they were talked to coming up. I want them to give more constructive advice and be more critical, but not be mean for the sake of being mean. These kids are not perfect, and if you listen to the judges’ comments from last year, you would think they were.” Yes, she added, Tyler and Lopez are there to, respectively, entertain with flashy wordplay and outfits, but both have had heavy doses of the realities of the music industry that Halperin said they could and should share with the budding stars. More pizzazz? : While “The X Factor” had so much flash and bang that it looked like the Grammys or VMAs every week, “Idol” has long held the spectacle aspect of performances to a minimum. “If any show should have that kind of production, it’s ‘Idol,’ because it’s the moneymaker,” she said. “But ‘Idol’ doesn’t seem interested in [messing] with the formula. They could have kicked it up any time over the past five years, but they’ve let the audience dictate how far they’ll go. At this point, the performances still look good because they are focused on the performer, not distracting fire and dancers.” Pull back the curtain : “One reason people got to know the ‘X Factor’ contestants is because the press and bloggers had unfettered access to them early on and it was not limited or constricted in any of the ways ‘Idol’ is,” she said. “They’re very precious about it on ‘Idol,’ but when we did get access to [the contestants], it allowed us to get to know them better and tell their story and get excited about them because we were invested in their backstories.” While “Idol” has loosened the reins a bit over the past few years and allowed the contestants to have a light social-media presence and Twitter feeds, Halperin said the show needs to rethink their lockdown mentality. Nicki Minaj Producers Explain ‘Your Love’ Sample

Pop and Oak faced major sample issues with Pink Friday track, in Mixtape Daily. By Rob Markman Nicki Minaj Photo: Bill McCay/ WireImage Behind the Beats: Pop and Oak Fans might not know Pop and Oak by name, but they damn sure know their beats. Trey Songz’s “Unusual,” Big Sean and Kanye West’s “Marvin & Chardonnay” and, of course, Nicki Minaj ‘s 2010 single “Your Love” are just a few of the duo’s hits. Now they’re up for a Grammy thanks to their work on Nicki’s Pink Friday, which is nominated in the Best Rap Album category. Pop, a Philadelphia native, and his production partner Oak, who hails from Istanbul, Turkey, have been working as a duo since 2008, back when they first produced “Your Love” for a then-emerging Minaj. ” ‘Your Love’ was a song that didn’t make Beam Me Up Scotty, the mixtape,” Pop told Mixtape Daily. Nicki was super-critical of her performance on the song, but after it eventually leaked at the top of 2010, there was no stopping it — well, there was one little obstacle to clear. The original leaked version featured a sample of Annie Lennox’s 1995 version of “No More I Love You’s,” but after the U.K. singer wouldn’t clear the sample, Pop and Oak had to come up with an alternative. “They didn’t let us clear the sample, so the version that leaked wasn’t the version that got on the radio. We ended up re-creating it,” Oak said. The duo redid the sample a little too well, it seemed. Even after the switch-up, Lennox’s lawyers continued to reach out, thinking Nicki’s new version of “Your Love” still incorporated the sample. “They thought what they were hearing on the radio was still the master,” Oak said. “Annie Lennox thought she was hearing herself, which was fly as hell,” Pop added. Daniel Radcliffe ‘Very Excited’ To Host ‘SNL’

‘It’s the real deal. You live or die on that show,’ Radcliffe tells MTV News. By Kevin P. Sullivan, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Daniel Radcliffe Photo: MTV News Daniel Radcliffe made the jump to Broadway star shortly after ending his run as the world’s most famous boy wizard, but on Saturday, he’s taking an even bigger step: He’s hosting “Saturday Night Live.” Radcliffe knew that’s not something you do without some careful consideration, and he told MTV News’ Josh Horowitz that he had to give it some thought before agreeing to host. “I had to think about it a little bit, because it’s the real deal. You live or die on that show,” he said. “Ultimately, it was a no-brainer because I was working with John Larroquette [in ‘How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying’] at the time as well. He hosted a bunch of times when he was younger.” Not that it took a lot of convincing. Radcliffe also just really wanted to work with the castmembers he admires. “I love Seth Meyers . Bill Hader , I think, is just unbelievable. That Alan Alda impression, just mind-blowing,” he said. Part of what is so enticing to Radcliffe about hosting is the immense challenge of it. “It will be the kind of stuff I like, that kind of guerrilla style of getting stuff done when you just have to get it done,” he said. “Nothing else matters. You have to do it. You have to achieve. By the end of the week, you’re going to be putting on an hour-and-a-half music-and-comedy show from scratch.” Work for Radcliffe’s episode started on Monday, and the actor said he is “very excited,” and he is even bringing some ideas of his own. “But they’re going to be crap,” Radcliffe said. “I’ve got a couple ideas, yes, but I don’t know that mine are going to end up onscreen because they’ve got a very experienced team of writers there.” Daniel Radcliffe’s episode of “Saturday Night Live,” with musical guest Lana Del Rey, airs this Saturday at 11:30 p.m. ET.
