Jennifer Lopez ‘Chasing’ Role In ‘Cocaine Cowboys,’ Mark Wahlberg Confirms

Role of drug cartel ‘godmother’ Griselda Blanco is Oscar bait, actor tells ‘Sway in the Morning.’ By Kara Warner, with reporting by Devi Dev Mark Wahlberg Photo: Jason Merritt/ Getty Images Mark Wahlberg always has a lot on his plate, juggling projects as both an actor and producer. One film he’s been talking about for awhile now is “Cocaine Cowboys,” a feature film based on the 2006 documentary directed by Billy Corben. And when Wahlberg stopped by Sway Calloway’s “Sway in the Morning” Sirius radio show on Tuesday (January 10), he hinted at some major news. “We’re waiting on the script. It’s going to be sooner rather than later,” Wahlberg told Sway’s Shade 45 co-host, Devi Dev. “We’re going to shoot that in Miami, hopefully in the summer or the fall.” “Cocaine Cowboys” follows the rise of the cocaine trade and the subsequent crime epidemic and drug war that swept through Miami in the 1970s and ’80s. The documentary featured first-person interviews with journalists, lawyers, former smugglers and gang members, many of whom argue that the criminal operations behind the trade can be traced to one prominent figure: infamous crime family matriarch Griselda Blanco. Wahlberg, who has expressed interest in teaming up with his director buddy David O. Russell on the project, joked that Devi Dev might have a shot at playing “godmother” Griselda Blanco. But the actor/director also said the co-host would have stiff competition from a well-known actress who’s very interested in the part. “It’s one of those characters that will go down in history. Jennifer Lopez is chasing that [role] like crazy,” Wahlberg revealed. “It’s the role — if I could play Griselda, I would. That’s Academy Award [bait] right there.” Wahlberg and Devi also discussed the fact that whoever lands the Blanco role will have to forget about being pretty. Getting into character will require a transformation

Pill Says He Never Signed To Rick Ross’ Maybach Music

‘I ain’t got nothing against none of them, nobody,’ rapper tells MTV News of the label. By Rob Markman Rick Ross and Pill Photo: Johnny Nunez/ WireImage Pill has caused quite the stir. Last week, after the Atlanta rapper took to Twitter to vent about his label situation , speculation began to swirl that P-I-Double L was dropped from the Rick Ross’ Maybach Music Warner Bros. distributed-label. But seeing as Pill was never technically signed to MMG, that isn’t necessarily the case. “I never signed any paperwork with Ross. It was just my deal was over at Warner already,” Pill revealed to MTV News Tuesday. According to the “Trap Goin’ Ham” MC, he was signed to Asylum/Warner Bros. Records at the end of 2009, a year before Ross brought his MMG label over to Warner Music Group. Pill says he is unaware of any conversations that Warner and Ross ever had concerning his career, but started receiving calls from Rozay around this time last year. The calls turned into collaborations — many of which ended up on Self Made Vol. 1 , Ross’ MMG label compilation album. It was alluded that Pill was officially a part of Rozay’s roster, along with Wale, Meek Mill and a host of other artists, but that wasn’t the case, the rapper says. During his December 28 Twitter rant, Pill, who made a name for himself with independently released singles like “Ok Denn,” criticized Warner, charging that they didn’t give him the proper push on radio and television. “I bet u can name you favorite artist and the turn on the tv and see the video and hear it on the radio. It’s not rocket science,” he wrote. Pill was particularly disappointed that “Pac Man,” his single from Self Made Vol.1 didn’t get a push, even after noted rappers 2 Chainz, Yo Gotti and Meek Mill were added to the song’s remix. “To have all that set in stone, I thought it would’ve been pushed a little bit harder, went a little bit further, but it didn’t,” he said. Maybach did include Pill on a number of label-driven initiatives, he admits. He was on the October 2011 XXL magazine group cover, appeared on “RapFix Live” with MMG in May 2011 and took part in the pre-taped crew cypher during BET’s Hip Hop Awards but was noticeably absent when Ross, Wale and Meek Mill performed during the actual ceremony. “I never really went on tour with them; I never really did anything with them,” Pill said. “The only time I performed on tour with them is when it stopped in Atlanta. They still showed love to a n—a when it was time to go to Vegas, or Cali, you know, whatever the label had put together for us to be on as a whole.” Currently the rapper’s lawyers are attempting to dissolve the Warner contract, and as for MMG, Pill insists he harbors no ill will and is grateful for the exposure that Ross has given him — even though he doesn’t remember the last time he and the Bawse spoke. “I ain’t got nothing against none of them, nobody. It’s just the situation don’t work,” Pill said matter-of-factly. “It’s cool with us, I don’t got nothing against Ross either. It’s just I don’t talk to him. “I ain’t really got too much to say to somebody that ain’t got too much to say to me. I’m not a brownnose, I ain’t a punk ass n—a and I’m not finna go trying to chase behind somebody that ain’t sayin’ nothing to me.” Related Artists Rick Ross

Ke$ha Looks Forward To An ‘Absolutely Crazy’ 2012

‘People say that rock and roll is dead, and it is my mission and my goal to resurrect it,’ singer says of her next album. By Jocelyn Vena Ke$ha Photo: Getty Images With 2011 behind her, Ke$ha knows exactly how she’ll be spending the next few months. She’s preparing to hit the studio in early 2012 for her next album. And while she’s favored Auto-Tune, club beats and lyrics about glitter for her past musical endeavors, this time around, anything is possible. “I think that my first record was heavily influenced by Licensed to Ill and the Beastie Boys and that [first] record is, like, very brash and very sassy and very unapologetic and irreverent. And I love that,” she told MTV News about her 2010 debut Animal . “I’m really proud of that, but I have learned over the past three years of doing this that being vulnerable doesn’t mean you’re weak. I very much want to be seen as a strong woman, but I realize that vulnerability can also be a strength. So on my next record, you are going to hear probably a little more of that. I’m not going to make an acoustic, sad entire record. But you might hear a little bit more vulnerability on the next record ’cause I have realized just from this Dylan cover coming out [on Amnesty International’s anniversary album] that it can be such a strength and a nice balance to humanize the other side of my personality,” she added. “I’ve been writing but I haven’t gone in with [producer Dr. Luke] yet. He’s working on stuff and I’m working on stuff for it. But [to] actually start, we go into the studio in January, early January.” If fans are looking for something new from K-Dollar Sign and can’t wait for this next record, she already has some music for you to listen to. She recently dropped her latest “Sleazy” remix and will be one of the many artists covering Bob Dylan for the Amnesty International anniversary album out on January 24. But even with all that out in the world, she’s especially excited for this next album. “I feel like I don’t necessarily agree, but people say that rock and roll is dead, and it is my mission and my goal to resurrect it in the form of my pop music,” she declared. “That’s the goal. We’ll see what happens. That’s a very ambitious and lofty goal, but that’s my goal.” As one year ends and another begins, the bedazzled singer took a moment to reflect on 2011, and it was quite the wild ride for her. “The whole year has been absolutely crazy, but I think that my tour, my headlining tour with LMFAO and Spank Rock, that was like really exciting to be a headliner for the first time really in my life, to be playing some of the same places I was playing opening for Rihanna,” she said. “Sometimes you get caught up in the details, but when you’re onstage at Jones Beach in front of 10,000 people, those moments, money can’t buy those moments.” Noting that her appearance at Glastonbury Festival also topped her list of accomplishments for 2011, she admits she’s still reeling from Britney Spears’ recording of “Till the World Ends,” which she penned. “That song just came on the radio and I have to say, I love hearing Britney Spears sing my lyrics, every single day. It never gets old. I get so excited,” she said. “It’s better than any drug when you hear Britney Spears sing a song you wrote.” K hopes that in the next year, more people will see that she’s a lot more than just glitter and hot pants. “I have a lot of growing and evolving to do,” she explained. “I’m definitely not a one-trick pony and I think more people are starting to see that more and more.”

I really appreciate it.” Perry was all over the radio in 2011, thanks to hit singles like “E.T.,” “The One That Got Away” and “Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.).” She appeared on the big screen in “The Smurfs” and the small screen hosting “Saturday Night Live.” She hit the road for her California Dreams Tour, kept us captivated with videos like the VMA-winning “Firework” and “E.T.” and always had us talking, whether it was about what she was wearing, tweeting or saying. Madonna Inks Deal With Interscope

Singer reportedly signs for three albums at rate of $1 million each. By Jocelyn Vena Madonna Photo: Getty Images As Madonna inches closer to the release of her in-the-works album, a report has surfaced that the Queen of Pop has signed a deal with Interscope Records, making her labelmates with music superstars like Lady Gaga and Eminem. The report first appeared in the New York Post early Wednesday (December 14), and a source confirmed the deal to Billboard . Madonna will reportedly work with the label on three records for $1 million each. Reps for the singer and the label had not responded to MTV News’ requests for comment by press time. Madonna will also remain with Live Nation, with whom she signed a deal in 2007. Currently she has a 10-year “360 deal” worth upward of $100 million that covers touring and merchandise. Live Nation CEO Irving Azoff hinted back in February that a merger could happen for the star sometime this year. Live Nation always had intended to partner with a record label for the release of Madge’s next album. “Live Nation, prior to the merger, entered into some of these all-rights deals, so there are certain artists, Madonna being one of them, that there is a recorded-music strategy,” Azoff said. “Once she gets the album recorded, we’ll sit down with her and her manager, Guy Oseary, and figure out what’s best for the record. It has to start with the music.” A source tells the New York Post, “It’s just about keeping relevance so that she can tour. She is still in the demo phase, but the idea is to get the first album out early next year.” Madonna is expected to drop her highly anticipated album this spring. In February, she’ll not only release her film “W.E.,” but she’s also slated to take the stage during the Super Bowl halftime show . She just shot the video for her song “Give Me All Your Love,” which features Nicki Minaj and M.I.A. The shoot made headlines when Nicki tweeted about kissing Madonna on the set of the clip, directed by the Megaforce. Are you looking forward to new music from Madonna? Tell us below!
