After filing for divorce last season, NeNe Leakes and husband Gregg were spotted cozying up in New Orleans at the 2011 Essence Music Festival . The outspoken “Real Housewives of Atlanta” star had a speaking engagement at the festival, and later hit up an after party with her ex. NeNe, who also appeared on “Celebrity Apprentice,” rocked a sky-high pair of Louboutins on the red carpet while Gregg sat around looking bored, but when all was said and done, the couple were seen leaving the club together. Word on the street is that the couple have been instructed not to be photographed together, because a big part of the “RHOA” Season 4 storyline revolves around their divorce proceedings. Experts weigh in on Toscano’s Interscope signing and music-industry future. By Jocelyn Vena Pia Toscano Photo: Charley Gallay/ Getty Images After much tiptoeing around the rumors , on Tuesday, “American Idol” alum Pia Toscano confirmed what everyone already suspected: She is signed to Interscope Records. The singer danced around the matter when we sat down with her in April and then again when we caught up with her at the American Idols Live! Tour rehearsals late last month. “You know, you’re just going to have to wait and see. That’s the goal, ultimately,” Toscano teased when asked about her career. “So we both have some good things ahead,” she added, with Haley Reinhart at her side. Toscano is expected to premiere her first single, “This Time,” at the tour kickoff Wednesday (July 6) in Utah. The song officially drops July 12. Interscope signing Toscano came as no surprise to experts who follow the show, and the fact that she kept it a secret for so long is equally unsurprising. “I am going to guess that they waited so long to announce it in order to goose ticket sales for the tour, which starts tonight,” Village Voice music editor Maura Johnston told MTV News. Meanwhile, MTV News’ very own “Idol” expert, Jim Cantiello, agreed about the timing of the announcement. “If the powers that be announced her deal while ‘Idol’ was still in season, it would have undermined the eventual winner’s signing. ‘American Idol’ is a lot like ‘The Real Housewives of New York’: There’s a pecking order. You can’t crown Miss America before the congeniality award gets handed out.” So will Toscano succeed at a major label? “Honestly, when I think of people becoming fans of hers, I think of all the ’90s revivalism that’s gone on lately in the alt-rock and hip-hop worlds,” Johnston said. “Maybe the outcry over Pia is some sort of residual result of fetishism for that decade creeping over into other types of music, since she’s operating in a Celine/old-school Mariah sort of diva way.” “I don’t know if Pia will be the ‘next big thing,’ ” Cantiello countered. “Her vocal prowess is beyond spectacular, but on ‘Idol,’ she suffered from a lack of personality. What will really be a hard hurdle to jump, though, is that she made a name for herself belting massive ballads,
R&B singer Ne-Yo stopped by VH1′s “Big Morning Buzz Live” Friday morning to discuss some of his upcoming projects. The Grammy winning singer/producer talked about his fifth studio release, titled “Love and Passion” which drops this September. Ne-Yo shared that he wanted to make a more well-rounded album that evokes emotion from the listener. “There’s more to music than just dancing,” Ne-Yo stated, “I mean when’s the last time you heard a ballad on the radio?” Ne-Yo confessed that he doesn’t bring his baby daughter Madilyn Grace (born last November) to the studio when recording. “When she’s around nothing else matters, nothing else gets done..so Maddy stays home while Daddy goes to work.” Ne-Yo is flying high from his collaboration on Pitbull’s hit single “ Give Me Everything .” The song is currently charting #1 worldwide. My name is Adriana and I’m from Adelaide, Australia . I never ever thought the day would come where I would be writing my own Bieber experience. A few months before Justin’s concert, I found out that bieberfever.com was having a contest to win meet and greets for Justin’s show in our city. I begged mum to let me join and she agreed. The task was to promote the website. I right away started promoting it in every possible. I stuck up signs everywhere, tweeted it and all of that kind of stuff. Two weeks before the concert I started sending my email in a few times a day. Then 2 days before the concert, I sent it in about 10 times a day because I was scared that they weren’t gonna see my video. It said on the website that we would have been contacted within 24 hours of the show, so I was thinking if I won I would have been contacted Wednesday as the show was Thursday. Wednesday came and I had no email, so obviously I had lost . All that hard work for nothing. My friend Isabelle said she had a feeling that the emails probably haven’t been sent out yet, and guess what, she was right! On Thursday 5 th May, the day it all began! 7:20am Isabelle rang my house phone to tell me I had won. I was sleeping at the time so mum came in and woke me up and told me that I had won! I straight away got out of bed and took the phone off mum and was like, ‘WHAT WE WON?’ I was so excited! I had to get myself organized, I still didn’t know what I was gonna wear! The day went by so slowly. Finally it was 2:30pm and I knew what I was wearing. At 3pm we went to the entertainment center and waited. It was finally 5:00 so we waited in this corridor while the security spoke about the rules. The line was getting shorter and shorter and I was so nervous to meet him. The security said, “Okay I need another 4 people”, so Isabelle, Sarah, Bella and I went in. We waited at the door and we all looked in and there he was! As we walked in he said, “Hey girls”. I can’t even describe how I was feeling at this point. The girls hugged him, then I did. I didn’t want to let go of him. Once we had our photo, we tried to talk to him but the security told us we had to leave. I still couldn’t believe it.. I just met Justin Bieber?! The concert was so amazing. Still today I can’t believe I have met Justin Bieber! My dreams have come true!! Dream big and never say never, that’s all I’ve got to say!! -@AdriLovesBiebs Read the original here: My name is Adriana and I’m from Adelaide, Australia. I never…
‘The world is not gonna believe it when they hear it,’ David Guetta tells MTV News of track from his Nothing But the Beat double album. By Matt Elias Nicki Minaj Photo: Chris McKay/WireImage As David Guetta gears up for the August release of his album Nothing But the Beat, it would be all too easy for the French DJ/producer to simply replicate the formula that has made him famous. While Guetta helped usher in a wave of electronic/pop music in the U.S., thanks to collaborations with acts like the Black Eyed Peas and Akon, he has other plans for his upcoming project. “With my previous album, I kind of created a bridge between electronic music from Europe and urban culture from America, and this sound at the time was so futuristic and new, [it] became almost the standard sound of American pop music,” Guetta told MTV News. “So the challenge on my new album was not so much to make hits — because I think I can do this — but more on a creative point of view and to surprise people and come with a new sound. “So it’s a double album,” he explained, “and one album is 100 percent electronic and very experimental, and the other album is 100 percent vocal and has all the biggest and most talented superstars on the planet.” One of those superstars, hip-hop chameleon Nicki Minaj, gets her shine on the album’s lead single, “Where Them Girls At,” alongside rapper Flo Rida. But there’s another track on The Beat that’s likely to expand Minaj’s repertoire. “I’m a big Nicki Minaj fan and I’m really, really proud of this record that we made together. It’s called ‘Turn Me On,’ and she is singing, ” Guetta said. “But like, she’s not trying to sing — she’s really, really singing. And this record is really big, and I’m really proud that she’s done that record. I think that the world is not gonna believe it when they hear it.” While Guetta’s newer fans are listening to the voice-oriented album, which includes features from Lil Wayne, Usher, Chris Brown, Jennifer Hudson, he’s hoping it serves as a gateway to the double album’s electronic disc. “I feel that I am very blessed that my music has been crossing over but at the same time, my original fans, they’re still the most important ones,” Guetta insisted. “And I’m a DJ first, so my music is very electronic even though I make songs now and they’re being played on the radio. But the fact that I come from a very instrumental culture, it’s still in me. “So I made this electronic album for my original fans, for everybody that came to Electric Daisy Carnival in Vegas, that are raving and partying every weekend. But also, I made this electronic album because I want the people that know me for what they heard on the radio and that are buying my album for the big songs, I also want them to discover where I’m coming from and the other side of me. John West – Right Now Whenever a new artist gets signed to a label and we love the first single, we always hold our breath for single number two. Because it could go either way. In this case, we’re still loving John West. (Shout out to Vibe.com on premiering this joint) DJ Khaled ft. Fabolous, Mary J. Blige & Jadakiss – It Aint Over Til It’s Over Khaled brought back the Mary J. Blige we LOVE on this joint. The “P.S.K. What Does It Mean?” sample with Fabolous and Jadakiss patterning their delivery after the original solidify this joint as a summer classic. Remember we said that when your local radio station starts playing this joint 15 times a day. Bertell – Simply Beautiful Newcomer Bertell takes a crack at remaking this often sampled Al Green classic. And the young man does Reverend Al proud. If you’re a Mary J. Blige fan, you’ll remember it as the foundation of her song “PMS” from the “No More Drama” album. If you’re a fan of the magic that Kanye West and Talib Kweli make together, than you’ll remember the sample from “Good To You” off of the “Quality” album. Ladies, click here , watch Bertell, pretend he’s singing to you. Wale – That Way feat. Today, Detroit rapper Big Sean released his debut album on Kanye West ‘s G.O.O.D. Music label. When I listen to Finally Famous , I can’t help but draw comparisons to Drake ; both artists are obsessed with fame and women, and their lyrical content reflects that. But unlike Drake’s Thank Me Later , Big Sean’s debut album is markedly superior in terms of production and musicality, thanks to No I.D. While I also like The Neptunes produced “Get It” and the playful “High” featuring none other than Wiz Khalifa, these are my top five songs: Big Sean Speaks On Drake Biting His Rhyme Style [VIDEO] Kelly Rowland Ft. Big Sean “Lay It On Me” [NEW MUSIC] 5. “Memories” featuring John Legend produced by No I.D. I’m a fan of songs that allow me to connect with the artist on a deeper level. So I like that Big Sean reveals himself on this track. The strings, piano, guitar, and layered vocals reinforce the sincere and sentimental vibe. 4. “Wait For Me” featuring Lupe Fiasco produced No I.D. and Exile Okay, so this sample just made my soul smile. And the fact that Lupe Fiasco jumps on is an automatic enhancement to the song. 3. “My Last” featuring Chris Brown produced by No I.D. Catchy. Fun and easy to sing along to. If you’ve heard this song on the radio recently, I’m sure you already know why this song is on my list! 2. “So Much More” produced No I.D. Comparable to Kanye West’s “Cheers” on College Dropout , this song nearly tops my list (mainly because the sample is so hot)! And unlike most, I like listening to rappers babble about their journey to stardom … seriously. 1. “I Do It” produced by No I.D. and The Legendary Traxster Let me just say, this beat is hard! And some of lyrics have me laughing my head off. I’ve probably listened to this song too many times. If you’re looking for a song to give you an ego boost, press play.
