DMX Arrested, Reaches Out to Dr. Drew

DMX was arrested Tuesday in Arizona, marking approximately the 126th time the rapper has been taken into custody for some legal matter of another. This time, though, he wants to turn things around, and his lawyer is reaching out to the one man that DMX believes can save him … Dr. Drew Pinsky. The details of the arrest are unclear, but attorney Gary Jenkins tells us “He has been battling addiction for some time and he’s in need of treatment.” Jenkins adds, “We’re hoping that maybe Dr. Drew might be able to help him.” Maybe now that he got that crazy stalker off his ass, he’ll have free time. Can Dr. Drew help DMX get clean? DMX mug shots over the past two years are almost too numerous to count. Jenkins added, however, “He’s a talented man … we’re praying for him.” While unconfirmed, two reports suggest that DMX violated his probation by using illegal drugs and was booked on five counts of probation violation. It’s also being reported that he let fly a few expletives during his initial court hearing last night, which wouldn’t surprise us in the least. This is DMX.

Lil Wayne Fans Say They Already Miss Jailed MC

‘I hope he gets out early!’ one MTV News reader says as Wayne begins prison term. By MTV News Staff Lil Wayne Photo: Louis Lanzano/AP Shortly after Lil Wayne turned himself in to serve his yearlong prison sentence, the superstar MC’s absence could be felt, both online — where Weezy had been busy tweeting and posting videos in recent weeks — and on the street. “It’s messed up looking at his situation, being a role model,” Wince Aubrey, 32, told MTV News. “But he got caught red-handed, so he’s being a man and owning up to his responsibility. He gonna be missed.” Lil Wayne’s sentencing had been delayed a number of times, first for dental surgery he required and then once again after a fire occurred at the courthouse last week. But on Monday, the rapper was formally sentenced to one year in prison after pleading guilty to attempted gun possession. The New Orleans native will now call Rikers Island his home at least until November, when he could be released after eight months for serving his jail stint with good behavior. “Wow, that really sucks,” MTV.com reader Courtney wrote. “I think that this is so stupid. … He is a good artist and donates a lot of money to charities. I hope he gets out early!!!” “DAMN! So, finally he’s gone,” Superman commented online. “Stay strong, Weezy. Best rapper alive.” But not all fans were saddened by the departure of the nearly ubiquitous hip-hop star. George Asatrian, 21, argued that Lil Wayne won’t be missed too much. “Hip-hop won’t be affected too much by him going to jail,” he told MTV News. “Because he probably has so much music to last, and I think he has enough people under him who will hold him down until he comes back.” Brooklynite Angel Velasquez said that even though the rapper’s sentence is short, it will still be challenging. But he cautioned about too much hype surrounding Lil Wayne’s imprisonment. “It’s not all about Weezy,” he said. “There’s a lot more entertainers out there.” Related Videos Lil Wayne’s ‘Road To Rikers’ Related Photos Lil Wayne Heads To Rikers Island Related Artists Lil Wayne

After Lil Wayne’s Sentencing, What’s Next?

Rapper will now be booked and processed before ending up at Rikers Island. By Jayson Rodriguez Lil Wayne Photo: Alexander Tamargo/Getty Images Now that Lil Wayne has surrendered to the court , he’ll be booked through the New York City court system and processed by the Department of Correction. The action could take hours, with Wayne not likely to see his cell and new bed until late in the evening, according to retired corrections officer Charles Reid, who spoke to MTV News about the process. Reid first spoke with MTV News last month about safety issues surrounding the multiplatinum MC . Reid characterized the booking and processing order as a tedious journey from standing before the judge until inmates arrive at their bunks. First, Lil Wayne’s case will be closed by the court and the rapper will be booked as a guilty party and fingerprinted. From there, paperwork will be drawn up and the Cash Money lyricist will be transferred from the court’s custody to the Department of Correction, which also has offices in the New York Criminal Court building. Once Wayne is transferred over to the DOC, he’ll be assigned a sentence number unique to each inmate. That number will include “anything you need to know about him,” Reid explained. Data about why the rapper was sentenced, his location and a list of his history will be detailed in his sentence number. From there, the rapper may be kept in Manhattan at the Tombs, otherwise known as the Manhattan Detention Complex. Depending on how long his processing takes and how busy officers are with transportation, the rapper could be held in the city. More than likely, though, Reid said, Lil Wayne’s ordeal will be completed in one day, spread out over many hours. By the time the New Orleans native arrives to Rikers Island, he’ll have to turn over his personal items to be held on location until his sentence is completed. Corrections officers will then strip search Lil Wayne, order him to shower, and then provide the rapper with his prison attire. As Reid pointed out before, Lil Wayne will not have to cut his trademark dreadlocks. “The days of doing that are over,” he said. “They can’t make inmates do that anymore — it’s within their rights to maintain any kind of hairstyle.” After that, Lil Wayne will be escorted to his cell where he’ll begin his prison stint; he pleaded guilty to an attempted-gun-possession charge, which will put him behind bars for eight months to a year. A prison guard who spoke to MTV News late last month described what the rapper’s new setting would look like. According to the guard, who spoke to us anonymously because of the nature of the information, Lil Wayne will likely have his own 10-by-15-foot cell with a toilet, sink, bed and one window. The view, according to the guard, however, won’t be much. “He’ll be able to see another wall [outside the window],” the guard said. Lil Wayne Sentenced To A Year In Prison

After multiple sentencing delays, the rapper turns himself in to begin his jail term. By Jayson Rodriguez Lil Wayne (file) Photo: Louis Lanzano/ Getty Images NEW YORK — Lil Wayne turned himself in to authorities Monday (March 8) after multiple sentencing delays for a July 2007 gun-possession charge. A near riot broke out in front of the Manhattan Criminal Court Building when the superstar MC entered, escorted by police and his Cash Money crew. Photographers aggressively angled to capture the last images of the rapper before he was formally sentenced to one year in prison. Dressed in black jeans, a black shirt and a gray jacket, Lil Wayne made his way in, before Judge Charles H. Solomon sentenced the rapper. The New Orleans native sat next to his lawyer, Stacey Richman, without addressing the court. After Solomon reminded Wayne of his charges, the rapper firmly nodded that he understood. Police then handcuffed Lil Wayne and he stood up to be taken away. He paused momentarily before leaving and nodded to Cash Money execs Birdman and Slim, who were present in the courtroom. Just like that, Wayne was gone. The rapper reached a deal with prosecutors in November to plead out to a lesser deal, and in return, he is expected to be released from prison as early as October. In 2007, Lil Wayne was arrested for attempted gun possession following his first headlining performance in Manhattan at the Beacon Theatre. New York is among the toughest states in the country when it comes to gun-possession laws. In other states, Lil Wayne could have gotten off with a misdemeanor rap and probation. However, in New York, only law-enforcement officials and those affiliated with authorities are permitted to carry firearms. Lil Wayne Could Finish Jail Time In Eight Months

Rapper should only serve two-thirds of his yearlong sentence, a lawyer tells MTV News. By Gil Kaufman Lil Wayne at the Manhattan Criminal Courthouse on February 9 in New York City Photo: Dario Cantatore/ Getty Images After delays due to dental surgery and a courthouse fire , Lil Wayne will finally be sentenced and begin his one-year prison term stemming from a 2007 gun arrest on Monday (March 8). But, according to a prominent New York lawyer, barring any major disciplinary issues, the MC (born Dwayne Michael Carter) should be free in eight months. “In New York, any sentencing to a year or less requires the time to be done in a county facility, and based on good-time credit in that kind of facility [such as Rikers Island, where Wayne is expected to be imprisoned], people only usually do two-thirds of their time,” said Scott Leemon, a New York attorney who is not involved in the Wayne case but who has represented a number of other rappers in legal issues, including 50 Cent, Tony Yayo and Remy Ma. “Basically, all he needs to do is stay out of trouble, and it’s an automatic thing. But if you’re having disciplinary problems, they can take away good time.” Leemon said it takes a “substantial” violation for that good time to be revoked, such as getting into a major fight or having large amounts of contraband. Wayne’s lawyer did not return requests for comment at press time. Though Leemon did not know what kind of sentencing guidelines Judge Charles H Solomon would impose on Weezy, he said that if the rapper did good time and earned an early release, he could walk out of Rikers Island in early October without having to see a parole board. “The only question is if he will be sentenced to some post-release supervision, which depends on what the judge gives him.” Wayne was originally scheduled to be sentenced last month, but his attorney requested a delay due to dental surgery the rapper required. Judge Solomon agreed to the last-minute request and rescheduled the proceedings for March 2. The New Orleans MC has had more time than he requested to recover from a reported eight root canals in one day. “I don’t want this to get pushed back anymore,” Judge Solomon told the rapper’s lawyer during his last appearance. “This is the last adjournment.” Then, just hours before he was set to appear before Judge Charles H. Solomon on Tuesday, a fire broke out at the Manhattan Criminal Court Building. At the first sign of smoke, the building was evacuated and all appearances were postponed. The next day, Weezy’s court date was once again rescheduled. Wayne is set to appear before Solomon on Monday and plead guilty to attempted gun possession. He’s then expected to turn himself in immediately to begin his prison term. The rapper reached a deal with prosecutors in November to plead out to a lesser sentence, and in return he is expected to be released from prison as early as October of this year. In 2007, Lil Wayne was arrested for gun possession following his first headlining performance in Manhattan at the Beacon Theatre. A gun-possession charge in New York could have landed the Cash Money superstar behind bars for up to 15 years if he was convicted. Wayne has been working feverishly in recent weeks to complete a number of videos and songs to stay relevant during his physical absence. That pace he’s gotten accustomed to, however, will come to a screeching halt, according to a New York corrections officer who spoke to MTV News. Once the rapper lands behind bars, his days will be as regimented as his recording schedule — but will be maintained by the prison warden, not Lil Wayne. “He’ll be housed with inmates who are classified in his category, and he’ll be able to be a regular inmate,” the guard said. “He’ll be able to watch television, go into the day room and congregate with people of his classification. Lil Wayne To Be Sentenced, Begin Jail Term Today

After a postponement for dental surgery, the Cash Money MC is expected to turn himself in. By Jayson Rodriguez Lil Wayne Photo: Frank Micelotta/ Getty Images This is it. Barring any colossally unforeseen circumstances (or eight more root canals ), Lil Wayne will be formally sentenced and finally turn himself in to begin his one-year prison sentence in New York on Tuesday (March 2). The sentencing was scheduled for last month , but Wayne’s attorney requested a delay due to dental surgery the rapper required. Judge Charles H. Solomon agreed to the last-minute request and rescheduled the proceedings for March 2. He’s then expected to turn himself in immediately to begin his prison term. The rapper reached a deal with prosecutors in November to plead out to a lesser deal and in return he is expected to be released from prison as early as October of this year. In 2007, Lil Wayne was arrested for gun possession following his first headlining performance in Manhattan at the Beacon Theater. A gun-possession charge in New York could have landed the Cash Money superstar behind bars for up to 15 years if he was convicted. New York is among the toughest states in the country when it comes to gun-possession laws. In other states, Lil Wayne could have reasonably gotten off with a misdemeanor rap and probation. However, in New York, mostly law-enforcement officials and those affiliated with authorities are permitted to carry firearms. The Empire State’s stringent gun laws were originally enacted during former governor George Pataki’s administration. Ultimately, what Lil Wayne pleaded guilty to amounts to him being able to have access to a gun. Police did not find a weapon on the rapper when his tour bus was searched. Rather, the gun — registered to his manager — was in a bag located near the rapper, hence the attempted charge. Lil Wayne has been working feverishly in recent weeks to complete a number of videos and songs to stay relevant during his physical absence. That pace he’s gotten accustomed to, however, will come to a screeching halt , according to a New York corrections officer who spoke to MTV News. He’ll be treated like a regular inmate,” the guard, who declined to be identified due to the classified information he discussed, added. Lil Wayne is also still facing charges in Arizona , and his trial is set to begin there March 30. Related Videos Lil Wayne’s ‘Road To Rikers’ Lil Wayne Goes To Jail
