Stephen Colbert to Mel Gibson, The View, The-Dream, BP and Others: You’re On Notice!

Okay, so Stephen Colbert had nothing to do with this. But this is what the Comedy Central host’s trademark On Notice board would look like if THG got hold of it. While Daniel Tosh may have passed him in the ratings, Colbert remains the man. Surely not a man you want to cross if you’re an environmental disaster, anyway. In honor of Stephen, and as a new means of calling out some things in the celebrity and real worlds that really deserve it, we’re putting the following On Notice! The oil spill. Way to ruin the Gulf of Mexico, BP. The View. This program is known for its outspoken panel’s controversial stances … but their ignorant HIV comments were straight out of the early 1980s. Mel Gibson. The fact that we had a hard time deciding which insane, racist, sexist Mel Gibson tirade to link to in this article tells you all you need to know. OK! Magazine. At least make up new lies. Yeesh. LeBron James’ “team.” No, not the Heat. The marketing gurus who convinced him to stick it to Cleveland on national TV. Way to “build a brand,” guys! The-Dream. Stop lying. We know you were creepin’. East Coast weather. Al Gore must be cackling right now. If we wanted to live in a furnace, we’d move to Arizona. At least everything there has AC. Frank from The Bachelorette. We’re not gonna give away any Bachelorette spoilers here … but it’s in the previews. How can you pull that crap, man?

Progressive Mag Editor Hates Fourth of July: Patriotism Leads to Fascism

Imagine being an American that hates the Fourth of July. Seems impossible, right? Apparently not for the editor of the uber-liberal magazine The Progressive proudly wrote Saturday, “It’s July 4th, my least favorite holiday…You see, I don’t believe in patriotism.” As amazing as it might seem, the 27-year-old Matthew Rothschild was just getting warmed up (h/t Weasel Zippers ): You can call me unpatriotic if you’d like, but really I’m anti-patriotic. I’ve been studying fascism lately, and there is one inescapable fact about it: Nationalism is the egg that hatches fascism. And patriotism is but the father of nationalism. Patriotism is not something to play with. It’s highly toxic. When ingested, it corrodes the rational faculties. Plus, it’s a war toy, wheeled out whenever a leader needs to improve his ratings by attacking some other country-often after invoking God’s name, too. But as for me, between God, country, and apple pie, I’ll take the apple pie. Actually, Matt, why don’t you take that apple pie to a country you can be proud to call your home, for if you so hate America that you can’t enjoy the day of her birth, why stay? Makes you wonder how many of The Progressive’s readers share Rothschild’s views – and how many liberals do as well. More importantly, how many so-called journalists at major news outlets feel the same way?  Of course, as NewsBusters Jeff Poor noted Sunday, this is the same magazine that reprinted Howard Zinn’s anti-American rant “Put Away the Flags” in its July issue. I guess to liberals like these, nothing says Happy Independence Day like rotten tomatoes thrown at the birth of the greatest nation on the planet.  It explains a lot, doesn’t it?

Eminem Does ‘Top 10,’ Jay-Z Talks LeBron James On ‘David Letterman’

‘Don’t get mixed up with drugs, gangs or oil executives,’ Em jokes during dig at BP over oil spill. By Jayson Rodriguez Jay-Z visits the “Late Show With David Letterman” on Tuesday Photo: Getty Images Eminem and Jay-Z will appear on the “Late Show with David Letterman” tonight (June 25), and in addition to performing on the rooftop together, the two rappers also talk with the cranky host. In preview clips released online , Em is seen participating in Letterman’s famous “Top 10” segment and Jay sits down on the couch to chat with Letterman. Letterman and the Brooklyn MC discussed Cleveland Cavaliers star (and Jay-Z pal) LeBron James’ impending free agency and the arrival of Mikhail Prokhorov, the New Jersey Nets’ new Russian billionaire majority owner. “The tall guy,” Hov joked, referring to Prokhorov. “You’re a guy,” Letterman then told the rapper. “I’m a guy. Now, if LeBron James wants to be a guy, he will stay where he is and not cut the heart out of that city by leaving Cleveland. You wouldn’t do that, would you? Cleveland is in desperate decline. And one of the glimmering hopes they have —” “How’s your ratings in Cleveland?,” Jay interrupted to laughs. Jay, who holds a minority stake in the Nets , admitted if he found himself in a similar situation, he could concede to Letterman’s point. Only three of Eminem’s Top 10 items about advice for kids had been previewed at press time, including jokes about “Toy Story 3,” illegal downloading, and a dig at BP in the wake of the Gulf leak. “Don’t get mixed up with drugs, gangs or oil executives,” the Detroit MC deadpanned. The two rappers taped their appearance earlier in the week in New York. Initially, they requested to perform on top of the famed Ed Sullivan Theater marquee, but officials for New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg declined to grant a permit. The pair were able to skirt the issue, however, by taking the show to the rooftop of the building and away from the streets where officials had concerns over public safety. Eminem and Jay-Z’s joint appearance was a part of promotion for their stadium concert series this September in New York and Detroit; two additional shows were announced on Thursday. What do you think of Jay-Z and Eminem’s “Letterman” appearances? Are you excited for the Home and Home Tour? Sound off in the comments below! Related Artists Jay-Z Eminem

Vienna Girardi is a Stalker, Jake Pavelka is a Fame Whore: The Bachelor Stars’ Camps Trade Barbs

“Sometimes love just isn’t enough in a relationship.” – Jake Pavelka We don’t even have a joke for this moving quote, but The Bachelor star may be right. Especially if your fiancee is a nut job stalker, which he can attest to. Sources close to the couple say they weren’t too surprised to see Jake and Vienna break up , in large part because she didn’t give him a whole lot of space. “She was kind of stalkerish,” says a staffer who worked closely with Jake Pavelka on Dancing With the Stars . “She wanted to spend a lot of time with him.” “Everywhere he would go, she would go. Rehearsals, photo shoots, practice. She was the only significant other there sometimes … it was a little weird.” Another source says Vienna was pissed when Jake was cast on DWTS , saying she is “not a fan of reality TV” (LOL) or him being surrounded by women. A Bachelor staffer echoed the sentiment: “I don’t think anyone really expected [Jake and Vienna] to last. It seemed like more of an infatuation than love.” More specifically, Vienna went on the show because he was on it, and Jake was so smitten that he didn’t heed warnings from … well, the whole country. In any case, it all unraveled amid rumors of Vienna cheating with Gregory Michael, which she denies. Moreover, her stepmom calls Jake a fame whore. Oh yes. To hear her family tell it, Vienna Girardi was the one who out because of Jake’s undying love for the spotlight. NOTE : They met on reality TV . Her stepmom Lisa also says her relationship with Jake Pavelka ended last night around 6 p.m., and the breakup took place over the phone! Weak, J. Whose side are you on? Hold the phone, there’s plenty more from Vienna’s camp … According to her family, Vienna felt that Jake constantly abandoned her for photo shoots and other media events … instead of building a foundation. Every reality TV fairy tale needs one of those. Vienna adamantly denies ever cheating on Jake, despite earlier reports Jake was convinced she was “stepping out” on him with that dude from Greek . Girardi’s family wasn’t done either, with her family members telling TMZ that Jake is a total fraud who was only motivated by TV ratings and not love. Quoth the stepmom: “I don’t think [Jake] ever loved her … I think he picked her because she is a dramatic person and it was good for the ratings.” She also said that despite his public love-fests, “In real life, they never kissed, didn’t have a romantic relationship and he never said he loved her.” If that’s true, he is definitely the biggest fraud of all time. One thing is for sure, in any event – he won’t be holding on to any five-figure parting gifts. Vienna gave her engagement ring back to Jake when she moved out of his place this weekend, but that $50,000 rock will be headed back to ABC. Her stepmom says Vienna ditched Jake with a goodbye note … and the 3 carat Neil Lane diamond he used to pop the question on The Bachelor . Sources close to the show say Jake is required to give the ring back to the production company, and only keeps it if they end up getting married. Decent odds for the show … 13/14 total, and even Jason Mesnick probably had to buy his own for Molly Malaney after dumping Melissa Rycroft.

Are Page Six and ‘Mr. Television’ Conspiring Against Jimmy Fallon?

Wednesday’s edition of Page Six reports that the ratings for Late Night with Jimmy Fallon are down 20 percent from May of 2009 and that NBC executives are “on edge” over the fall. Gasp! Says Mediaweek’s Marc Berman — who actually goes by the late, great Milton Berle’s old nickname “Mr. Television” — “When they took out Jay and put in Conan, they lost a lot of the viewers who would usually have stayed on to watch Fallon. The lead-in is pivotal . . . When you mess around with viewers, sometimes it’s hard to get them back. TV is a very fickle business . . . If there is a lesson to be learned from this debacle, it is that if it’s not broken, don’t fix it.” Good point, Mr. TV! And good thing Fallon isn’t broken.

Ratings: Old CBS Beats New ABC

ABC trotted out two new episodes last night ( The Bachelorette and the new reality series True Beauty ) and still lost to CBS’ s platter of reruns and NBC’ s Stanley Cup finals game in the demos race. CBS garnered top honors with 7.7 million total viewers (beating ABC’ s 6.9), while NBC won the coveted 18-49 demo with a 2.4 rating over ABC’ s 2.3. Look at the bright side, ABC : The people of Chicago haven’t been this excited about professional sports since 2005. They’ve earned this tiny ratings victory. And if the Blackhawks win it all, the entire Midwest may be transformed into romantics who want nothing more than a rose ceremony to end their Sunday nights. [ Zap2It ]

Glenn Beck’s viewers are wising up. 50% of them are gone.

Link speaks for itself. “Glenn Beck has been in denial about his ratings slide for weeks now. First, he claimed that there is no ratings decline for his Fox News show, and then he claimed that the weather was to blame for his 33% drop in viewership. However by attracting only 1.7 million viewers on Friday, Beck hit a new all time low which is now 50% off of his peak audience of 3.4 million.” -via, Politicususa added by: nthnkrk

Julia Roberts and Co. Fighting Off ‘R’ Rating for Eat Pray Love

The latest MPAA ratings bulletin reveals that Eat Pray Love — that globetrotting, face-making paean to one woman’s post-Franco self-discovery — received an R from the associations ratings board. Unless someone spiked Julia Roberts’s dialogue with a sexually connoted F-bomb, not even the folks at Sony seem to understand how this might have happened.
