Well, he’ll be coming to a TV near you… Via AJC reports: When life coach extraordinaire Iyanla VanZant last year profiled an Atlanta music producer named Jay Williams, she kept harping on one fact that nobody this side of a Guinness Book of World Records record keeper could believe: the man has had 34 children from 17 different women. Not surprisingly, on “Iyanla: Fix My Life,” Williams came across as simultaneously proud and dismayed by his situation. Clearly, he is incredibly manipulative and irresponsible when it comes to dealing with women. And of course, he must have oodles of charm – and a serious shortage of (or deep aversion towards) condoms. Can you imagine the child support obligations? He says that he wants to change and to be the best father he can be, but his extreme situation will challenge his best intentions and whether or not he can live up to all the responsibility. SAE Fraternity Member Levi Pettit Apologizes One of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon leaders who lead that now infamous racist chant apologized yesterday for his actions. Levi Pettit was surrounded by members of the Oklahoma Black Caucus who supported him as he said he’d “pledge his life to fighting racism.” G….T…F…O….H. MSNBC reports: Flanked by black community leaders, one of the former University of Oklahoma SAE fraternity brothers captured on video singing a racist chant apologized Wednesday to those he had hurt and said he would pledge his life to fighting racism. “All the apologies in the world won’t change what I have done, so I will spend the rest of my life trying to be the person who heals and brings people of all races together,” Levi Pettit said in a press conference in Oklahoma City. Oklahoma State Sen. Anastasia A. Pittman, the chair of the Oklahoma Black Caucus, thanked the media in her introduction for “giving us this opportunity to introduce Levi Pettit to the world.” Pettit, who met with black civic leaders and pastors prior to the press conference, delivered a prepared statement in which he expressed regret and asked for forgiveness. “The people I met with have opened my eyes to things I wasn’t exposed to before this event,” Pettit added during a brief question and answer session, saying he hadn’t understood the hurt his words caused. “I think I knew they were wrong, but I never knew why or how they were wrong.” He would not discuss the chant, however, or say where he learned it or who taught it to him. “I’m not here to talk about where I learned the chant or where it was taught. I’m here to apologize for what I did,” Pettit said. Sigma Alpha Epsilon closed its University of Oklahoma chapter earlier this month after video surfaced of fraternity members taking part in the chant, which included a racial epithet and a reference to lynching. The university expelled Pettit and another student, Parker Rice. Stephen Jones, an attorney for the local SAE chapter, told NBC News on Wednesday that an agreement had been reached with the university, and that no other fraternity members would be expelled. Sooooo we can’t know who taught the chant and we’re supposed to believe that because Levi’s spent some time chatting over coffee with black leaders that he’s going to dedicate his life to the black cause? Girl Tries To Kill Mom With Bleach Over iPhone A 12-year-old Colorado girl is accused of attempting to kill her mother with bleach after the woman took away her phone. Via HuffPo reports: The girl, whose name has not been released, allegedly tried to poison her mother’s drink with the cleaning fluid two different times, ABC News reports. The first time, on March 2, the woman felt ill after drinking a smoothie and smelled some bleach in the glass, but chalked it up to the girl failing to clean the glass correctly. The second time she smelled bleach in her beverage, on March 6, the mom “confronted her daughter and her daughter told her that she was trying to kill her for taking her iPhone,” Boulder County Commander Heidi Prentup told KDVR. The sheriff’s office began an investigation after the mother checked into the hospital on March 6, and the daughter was arrested March 20. The mother’s health is not in danger. The girl was charged with two counts of attempted first-degree murder and is in custody at the Boulder County juvenile center. WTF?!!?!?
Martese Johnson Not Belligerent Or Drunk At Time Of His Arrest Martese Johnson, the UVA student who was brutally assaulted by ABC officers on St. Patrick’s Day, was “polite and cordial” at the time of his arrest. Furthermore he was not intoxicated when he was slammed face first onto the ground and wounded so badly that he needed 10 stitches. USA Today reports: The 20-year-old black University of Virginia student bloodied by alcohol-control officers outside a bar last week was denied entry after a “polite and cordial” conversation because he named the wrong ZIP code for the address on the Illinois license he presented, the pub says. Johnson “did not appear to be intoxicated in the least” and simply walked off after being turned away, the Trinity Irish Pub said in a statement released Saturday night. It called reports that bar staff were “belligerent” toward Johnson or that he was belligerent to management “patently untrue.” A Breathalyzer test showed Johnson was not intoxicated. In its version of events, the pub said co-owner Kevin Badke was at the door just after midnight Wednesday to monitor the St. Patrick’s Day celebrations and be sure underage drinkers did not enter. He said the ABC had alerted the bar beforehand that it would be watched closely because “they were Irish.” Until 10 p.m., the pub admits patrons of all ages. After that, “under no circumstances do we allow anyone under the age of 21 to enter the establishment,” the statement said. Johnson had been in line to enter around 12:30 a.m., and Badke, who is from the south side of Chicago, was at the door helping check identifications. Badke asked Johnson for his ZIP code, a key question used to catch fake IDs. Johnson’s answer didn’t match the 2011 Illinois license he presented, and “probably realizing the reason for the error, stated that he had moved,” the statement said. After a brief “cordial and respectful” conversation, Badke said he couldn’t let Johnson in and handed him back his ID. “He was just disappointed he didn’t get in. He was just acting like a normal college kid,” Badke said in a interview. “It was very cordial. I actually asked him what high school he went to.” Moments after Johnson walked away, video shows three uniformed ABC special agents confronting him. While showing them his Illinois ID, he is grabbed by the neck and pushed face down onto the brick sidewalk just steps from the Trinity entrance. Johnson can be heard yelling that he was a U.Va. student. “How did this happen, you (bleeping) racists!” Johnson screams. The ABC arrest report describes Johnson as “belligerent” and “very agitated.” The arresting officers have been reassigned to administrative duties during the investigation, which Gov. Via TMZ reports: NY Knicks coach Derek Fisher has filed for divorce from his wife Candace … just one month after they celebrated their 10 year anniversary. Fisher filed the divorce docs in Los Angeles — citing irreconcilable differences as the reason for the split. The couple have two children together, twins … including a daughter who suffered from a rare form of eye cancer. Fisher was famously let out of his contract with the Utah Jazz back in 2007 so he could spend more time with her and help her with treatment. The divorce seems to be as amicable as these things get — with Fisher asking for joint legal and physical custody of the children. He also wants to split the legal costs. Fisher issued a statement saying, “This is a difficult time for me personally. Black McDonald’s Employee Says Managers Said Put Mustard On Burns More than two dozen low-wage McDonald’s workers filed health and safety complaints against the fast-food chain on Monday, alleging that understaffing and time pressures in stores have led to burns, falls and other injuries, according to the worker group representing them. Via HuffPo reports: The 28 complaints, involving stores in 18 cities, were filed with the federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration and the relevant state agencies tasked with ensuring safe workplaces. The workers submitted them with the support of Fight for $15, the union-backed labor coalition that’s been agitating for a $15 minimum wage and union recognition in the industry. OSHA confirmed to The Huffington Post that it received the federal complaints Monday. One Chicago worker, Brittney Berry, alleged that she was so harried one day she slipped and caught her arm on the grill, leading her to be hospitalized and suffer nerve damage. She said she was advised by managers to treat the burn with a condiment. “My managers kept pushing me to work faster,” Berry, who was arrested last year in an act of civil disobedience against McDonald’s, said in a statement. “The managers told me to put mustard on it, but I ended up having to get rushed to the hospital in an ambulance. This is exactly why workers at McDonald’s need union rights.” The vast majority of McDonald’s stores are operated by franchisees rather than the fast-food company, but in a Monday statement, Fight for $15 argued that the responsibility to keep workers safe ultimately falls on McDonald’s. “McDonald’s sets minimal health and safety standards for all franchisees, but even these modest measures are not properly enforced,” the group said. “The company watches like a hawk nearly every aspect of its franchisees’ business operations via regular inspections, but it too often ignores health and safety problems.” “McDonald’s and its independent franchisees are committed to providing safe working conditions for employees in the 14,000 McDonald’s Brand U.S. restaurants,” McDonald’s spokeswoman Heidi Barker Sa Shekhe said in a statement. “We will review these allegations. It is important to note that these complaints are part of a larger strategy orchestrated by activists targeting our brand and designed to generate media coverage.” The safety complaints are indeed part of a broader shaming campaign that’s brought unprecedented scrutiny to the working conditions in fast food. For more than two years, Fight for $15, which is funded by the Service Employees International Union, has organized a highly successful series of strikes by workers at McDonald’s, KFC, Taco Bell and other restaurants in cities across the country. Flight Forced To Land Due To Smelly Restroom Someone on a flight from London to Dubai blew up the airplane bathroom SO BADLY that the pilot had no choice but to turn around and take everyone home. Typically one would think the situation could be remedied with time and a spritz of air freshener…but apparently the stench permeated the plane to the point where continuing on for the rest of the trip simply wasn’t an option. Via VICE.com : A British Airways flight was forced to turn around and land over the weekend because somebody did a s–t so bad the plane was essentially rendered useless. Imagine living your life in the knowledge that you once turded so appallingly that a 747-400 had to turn around and land. Your liquid s–t bought a $533 million airplane juddering out of the sky. Imagine looking your loved ones in the face after that. Imagine hugging your mom. You couldn’t. Your a**hole is essentially a terrorist. Anyway, the BA flight from Heathrow to Dubai on Saturday had to turn around and flop back down again at Heathrow just 30 minutes into the seven-hour flight because somebody did a toilet crime. “The pilot made an announcement requesting senior cabin crew, and we knew something was a bit odd,” one passenger said. “About 10 minutes later he said, ‘You may have noticed there’s a quite pungent smell coming from one of the toilets.’ “He said it was liquid fecal excrement. Those are the words he used.” The flight was rescheduled for the next day, and British Airways made a statement saying, “We’re very sorry for the discomfort to our customers,” before providing everyone on the flight — including the rogue sh–ter, presumably, whoever they may be –with overnight hotel accommodation. The saddest (or most hilarious?) part of it all, is you know that there were at least a handful of passengers that knew EXACTLY who the culprit was. We just want to know why it is they couldn’t have handled this situation at the airport before takeoff??
