MTV News brings you a first look at 30-second spot, debuting Tuesday. By Kara Warner Photo: NARAS The countdown to the 2012 Grammys is on. Last week, we got a sneak peek at a few promo photos of host LL Cool J and nominees Nicki Minaj and Taylor Swift . This week, MTV News has landed an exclusive first look at the television ad campaign featuring the 25-time-nominated Foo Fighters, who are up for six Grammys this year, including Album of the Year and Best Rock Album for Wasting Light. Check out the complete list of 2012 Grammy nominees. The 30-second teaser, which debuts Tuesday night on CBS, opens with an aerial shot overlooking a bejeweled city, reminiscent of the Emerald City from “Wizard of Oz” but all in gold, not green. Over the opening notes of the Foo track “Bridge Burning,” the camera starts to zoom in toward the center of the city, with the gem-like walls exploding into pieces around the shot. From the golden and dusty debris, the Foos emerge individually rocking out to the song. First Taylor Hawkins, then Dave Grohl, followed by Chris Shiflett, Nate Mendel and Pat Smear. The promo ends with the Grammy slogan — “We Are Music” — etched into the rock formations. According to a statement from the Recording Academy, the focus of this year’s ad campaign is on the “raw emotion in music that connects fans and artists and transcends the Grammy stage. It’s that moment where the artist is ready to push the music out and the fan is ready to receive — that’s the true power of music.” The stylized visuals in the video spots are aimed at exposing and enhancing the emotions of this year’s nominees and their songs. In addition to the promo featuring the Foo Fighters, look out for additional spots with Adele, Bon Iver and Skrillex, as well as the print campaign, which features Grammy winners and current nominees Bruno Mars and Paul McCartney. The 54th annual Grammy Awards air live Sunday, February 12, at 8 p.m. ET on CBS. What do you think of the Foo Fighters promo? Let us know in the comments! Related Artists Foo Fighters
Working with Swizz Beatz can get you a hit record and a lawsuit. The New York Post reports that the record labels of Sean “Diddy” Combs, Kanye West and will.i.am, amongst others, were not pleased when they learned the participated in a video promo for Megaupload. Apparently it was Swizz, who is listed as Megaupload’s CEO, who convinced the aforementioned artists, including his wife Alicia Keys, to participate in the clip promoting the file storign and sharing service. However, since sites like Megaupload make trading pirated music easy, they have drawn the scorn of the recording industry. Although Megaupload contends the majority of their users use their service legitimately, the Universal Music Group immediately demanded the video (see below) be taken down, citing that its artists performed without permission. iTunes creator will be honored with a special tribute at February awards show. By Henna Kathiya Steve Jobs Photo: Getty Images While Steve Jobs didn’t belt out soulful songs or create lyrical poetry like the artists typically honored each year by the Recording Academy, his singular contribution to the music industry has earned him a special tribute at the 2012 Grammy Awards . It was announced on Wednesday that the Apple co-founder will receive a posthumous Grammy in February. His innovative approach to downloading music through iTunes revolutionized music in an era where music piracy and illegal downloading was rampant. Jobs died in October after losing a seven-year battle with pancreatic cancer. Remember Steve Jobs’ many innovations by flipping through this photo gallery. The 56-year-old visionary will be remembered as having helped “create products and technology that transformed the way we consume music, TV, movies, and books,” according to a statement from the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences. The award will also recognize “Jobs’ innovations such as the iPod and its counterpart, the online iTunes store, which revolutionized the industry and how music was distributed and purchased.” Not only is Jobs getting a Grammy but a bronze statue was recently erected in his honor in Budapest, Hungary. The statue was commissioned by Hungarian software company Graphisoft, which has had a close relationship with Apple since the 1980s, according to Reuters . News of Jobs’ death created waves throughout the world with the likes of President Obama and Nicki Minaj remembering the tech giant. The Apple co-founder is not the only one receiving a posthumous Grammy; trailblazer Gil Scott-Heron will also be honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award come February 12. ‘I have the name for it,’ Gaga reveals to MTV News, while producer Fernando Garibay says they’re hoping to ‘outdo’ Born This Way. By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Matt Elias and Vanessa WhiteWolf Lady Gaga Photo: MTV News Lady Gaga is perhaps the busiest monster of them all. Just six months after dropping her chart-topping Born This Way, the Mother Monster is already hard at work on its follow-up. “I’ve started writing it and I have the name for it and all the concepts are beginning to flourish and take place,” she told MTV News at Jingle Ball in Los Angeles, where she also talked about her Grammy nods and “Marry the Night” video . “I’m excited to put it out, but it’s not done yet. So I’ll put it out when it’s done.” BTW contributor Fernando Garibay recently stopped by the MTV News offices in Santa Monica, California, and shared the vision he has in mind for Gaga’s next release . “I get a little bit of anxiety thinking about that right now,” the producer said of plans for the album. “I wanna just always try to outdo ourselves, our songs. “They’re already incredible songs. But I feel like she’s so young,” he said, adding that the record is in its early stages and that “there’s a lot of room to grow.” While Gaga will hit the road on the Born This Way Tour next year, Garibay said that won’t halt the recording process. “The last record we made in bus stops and hotel rooms,” he said. “Wherever she’s at, we’ll make it.” However the recording schedule pans out, Garibay knows he and Gaga will continue experimenting with new sounds. “She’s the perfect platform for me to express myself,” he said. “You can do stuff with her that you can’t do with anybody else. It’s amazing.” What are you expecting from Gaga’s next album? Share your ideas in the comments! Related Videos MTV First: Lady Gaga Related Artists Lady Gaga
Saturday Night Live didn’t waste any time poking fun at one-time Presidential candidate Herman Cain’s decision to end his bid for the GOP’s nomination. Cain announced that he was dropping out of the race after a woman named Ginger White alleged that she had a 13-year-long affair with Cain and several other women claimed that they were sexually harassed by the Georgia businessman. Cast member Kenan Thompson revisited his spot-on impersonation of Cain, joking that “I scheduled an appointment with my wife. We had a productive discussion while she glared at me listening to Mary J. Blige .” RELATED POSTS: SPOOF: Mike Tyson Finds His Inner Herman Cain [VIDEO]
