Michael Jackson Voicemail, Recording at Conrad Murray Trial Show Star’s Declining Health

Testimony and an audio recording heard today at Dr. Conrad Murray’s involuntary manslaughter trial today show Michael Jackson’s physical state in mid-2009. Spoiler alert: It was not good. A forensic expert who analyzed Dr. Murray’s iPhone uncovered a voicemail from Jackson’s manager referring to “an episode” MJ had five days before he died. On it, manager Frank DiLeo tells Murray, “I’m sure you’re aware [Michael] had an episode last night.” And then there was this recording, made by Murray: Michael Jackson Voice Recording (Conrad Murray Trial) The full version of the Michael Jackson recording played during the opening of the trial is chilling and heartbreaking as the delirious star rambles incoherently. Jackson tells Murray, who recorded this conversation on his phone weeks before the singer’s death, that he’s dedicating the “This Is It” concerts to his kids. Jackson claims, “I love them because I didn’t have a childhood.” The 50-year-old becomes extremely emotional while speaking about Prince, Paris and Blanket , saying, “I had no childhood. I feel their pain. I feel their hurt.” Michael explains how he wanted to outdo The Beatles and Elvis with his final concerts, and go down in history as the greatest entertainer who ever lived. It’s unclear why Murray recorded this, but according to prosecutors, it documents the singer under the influence of “unknown agents” on May 10, 2009. It also shows Murray was familiar with Michael in altered states. At one point Murray asks Jackson if he’s okay, and Michael responds, eerily, “I am asleep.” It’s unclear how much this will hurt Murray with a jury, but – much like the testimony of Murray’s many girlfriends yesterday – it certainly can’t help. What’s your take? Dr. Conrad Murray :

Anne Hathaway Responds To ‘Dark Knight Rises’ Catwoman Reaction

‘If you didn’t like the photo, you only see about a 10th of what that suit can do,’ actress promises MTV News. By Kara Warner with reporting by Josh Horowitz Anne Hathaway as Catwoman Photo: Warner Bros It was the photo that launched a thousand blog posts, tweets and message-board debates. Last week, the Web was ablaze when Warner Bros. released the first photo of Anne Hathaway as Selina Kyle in “The Dark Knight Rises.” MTV News was immediately on the case, offering up our own analysis , as well as thoughts from a few experts on what the photo of Hathaway in costume, riding what looked to be Batman’s motorcycle, meant for the character and her assumed transformation into Catwoman. Check out our photo analysis of Hathaway’s Catwoman. Now, in knowing how tight-lipped the “Dark Knight Rises” stars are sworn to be about the films, when we caught up with Hathaway as she promoted the upcoming movie “One Day,” we didn’t expect her to offer any commentary about the photo — but she surprised us. “I was not going to admit it: I asked someone to send me a few reactions [to the photo],” she said. “And I happen to know that MTV’s reaction was ‘meh.’ ” Now, we’re not sure about the “meh” quote, but we will admit to using the phrases “cautiously optimistic,” “unflattering” and “underwhelming” in our analysis. Regardless, Hathaway said that no matter the first impressions, there is a lot more happening with that suit. “What I am happy to say is, if you didn’t like the photo, you only see about a 10th of what that suit can do,” she promised. “And if you did like the photo, you have excellent taste.” Check out everything we’ve got on “The Dark Knight Rises.” For breaking news and previews of the latest comic book movies — updated around the clock — visit SplashPage.MTV.com . Evanescence Say Making New Album ‘Felt Like The First Time’

‘I had a little bit of an identity crisis,’ frontwoman Amy Lee says of band’s hiatus during ‘MTV First: Evanescence.’ By Kara Warner, with reporting by James Montgomery Evanescence’s Amy Lee Photo: MTV News After a 20-month hiatus from performing, Evanescence returned to the stage in fine, fighting form Monday (August 8) for the exclusive “MTV First: Evanescence,” treating viewers to the first live performance of their comeback single, “What You Want,” followed by a lengthy no-holds-barred Q&A. The energy in the room and onstage was palpable. The live audience at Blackbird Studios — the recording house where the band laid down the majority of their forthcoming, self-titled album — held on and rocked out to each and every note, particularly frontwoman Amy Lee’s powerful vocals. In discussing their hiatus and eventual return as a band, Lee admitted that the “hard part” of making music and recording was something she felt was missing from her writing process. “The fact that we had to fight for it felt like the first time again,” Lee said of the band’s ups and downs in the years leading up to their latest work. “I had a little bit of an identity crisis,” Lee admitted of being in and associated with Evanescence since she was a teenager and into her adulthood. “[The success with] ‘Fallen’ happened really fast, and it was just go, go, go for a couple years, and we went right into writing and wrote the next record. By the time we finished touring with ‘The Open Door,’ I just needed to go, ‘Who am I as an adult?’ “But [in taking a step back I realized] this is what I do,” Lee said. “It’s not a character; this is really me. Realizing and getting back to it in a real, fuller way. ‘Oh, I’m in this because I love this and [the band] is a true, real part of me,’ not because it’s a character or something. It just makes me really, really happy to be here.” Stay tuned to MTVNews.com as we roll out more from our exclusive interview, including talk about tour details, “Twilight” and much more. Lil Wayne’s Carter IV ‘Totally Done’

MC also tells MTV News that hit ‘How to Love’ was inspired by Tupac’s ladies’ anthem ‘Keep Ya Head Up.’ By Rob Markman, with reporting Rahman Dukes Lil Wayne Photo: MTV News Tunechi’s back and Tha Carter IV is done! During an interview with MTV News last week, Lil Wayne confirmed that the recording of the highly anticipated fourth installment of his Tha Carter series is finished and will drop at the end of August, a day after the 2011 MTV Video Music Awards air live on August 28. “The album is done and it’ll be out August 29. It’s totally done,” Wayne told us. While the MC’s upcoming mixtape, Sorry for the Wait, will no doubt feature Wayne spewing rapid-fire rap over concussive beats, judging by the latest Carter IV single, the album will offer even more diversity. According to Wayne, the acoustic-flavored, sing-songy “How to Love” was actually inspired by Tupac Shakur. “That song is just sweeping the world. It’s touching every woman, that’s what it was for,” Wayne said. “It was like Tupac had ‘Keep Ya Head Up’ and it was a message to women and little girls across the world just to keep your head up even though things are hard. That’s what my song was.” ‘Pac’s 1993 song became one of his biggest hits. On it, Shakur rapped about the plight of single mothers and battered women. For “How to Love,” Weezy also lends a sympathetic ear. “A lot of women don’t know how to love because there’s deep reasons for them not knowing how to love,” he explained. “And what I mean by deep reasons is deep and dark reasons. A lot of people don’t open up that can and I figured that I can open up that can of worms and see what happens.” How do you think Wayne’s “How to Love” compares to Tupac’s “Keep Ya Head Up”?
