Tommy Chong of Cheech & Chong fame has prostate cancer, he revealed on CNN Saturday in an interview about his fight to help legalize marijuana. Chong, 74, explained that he noticed symptoms about eight years ago. Despite that, he was only diagnosed “about a month ago,” he added. “I’ve got prostate cancer, and I’m treating it with hemp oil, with cannabis,” Tommy Chong revealed. “So [legalization of marijuana] means a lot more to me than just being able to smoke a joint without being arrested.” He assured CNN that his cancer is a “slow stage one [that I’ve] had for a long time … I know it had nothing to do with cannabis; cannabis is a cure .” Chong quit smoking pot “for health reasons” a year ago, but ingests hemp oil at night “so I won’t be woozy all day … I’m taking it as medicine.” Along with pal Cheech Marin, Chong appeared in several Cheech and Chong films in the 1970s, ’80s and ’90s. Just weeks after undergoing a double mastectomy and reconstructive surgery, E! News host Giuliana Rancic visited the Today show Friday with husband Bill. So how is the cancer survivor feeling now? “I feel great,” Giuliana told Matt Lauer. “I feel great considering it’s been only two and a half weeks, but I still have a ways to go as far as recovery.” The Giuliana & Bill star, who returned to work this week, has maintained a positive, but candid attitude about her breast cancer diagnosis and treatment. Make no mistake, this was no easy decision – or ordeal. “It was definitely hard,” she said regarding how she felt immediately after her invasive surgery. “Up until about a week and a half ago it was hell.” Giuliana was on morphine, in extreme pain and sick to her stomach, but with Bill’s help, she managed to get out of bed – and set a hospital record! Giuliana’s doctor gave Bill strict orders to help her walk around the bed and the hospital to aid in her recovery, which provided her motivation. “I asked a nurse what the record was for walking laps around the hospital,” recalled said. “It was two,” Bill went on. “G did two and a half.”
The UK’s (and THG’s) favoritest couple Prince William and Kate Middleton will be surrounded by loved ones when they ring in their first year as newlyweds. According to reports, William and Kate, both 29, will travel to Aberdeen, Scotland, and will stay at Birkhall, a 53,000-acre estate belonging to William’s dad. “They will stay for New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day,” a source reveals. “Prince Charles and Camilla will be flying there, too.” But that’s not all … William and Kate’s whirlwind holiday plans continue … Unlike her first Christmas at the Palace, Kate’s parents, Michael and Carole Middleton, are “expected at Birkhall for the festivities,” the source believes, which is nice. “They are staying at Teapot Cottage or another cottage on the estate, not Birkhall itself,” says the insider , although the Middletons will be welcomed by the family. No word yet on the NYE plans of Prince Harry and Pippa Middleton , but we hope it involves them being together. Someone really needs to start a petition for that.
Giuliana Rancic is back in front of the camera at E! News just a few weeks after undergoing a successful double mastectomy. Fans, coworkers and friends rejoice! “It feels great to be back at work,” Rancic, who is battling breast cancer, said. “I wasn’t sure I was going to return to E! News this week or after the new year.” “The last thing I wanted to do was rush my recovery.” “Thankfully, I’ve been feeling better every single day since surgery and this weekend my doctors gave me the green light to get back to work,” she continued. “Even though I moved a tad slower than usual today,” she added , “Everyone welcomed me back with open arms and it was just a wonderful homecoming.” Rancic certainly didn’t miss a bit as she warmly greeted her TV audience with stories about Matthew McConaughey’s and John Legend’s engagements . Think you know Britney Spears? In an interview with Pop Justice , the star says that you probably do not – and the real Britney Spears is a lot LESS interesting than what you likely imagine. She opens up about bedtime (10:30 p.m.), her gray hairs (or lack thereof) and what she’d be doing if she weren’t famous (“probably a teacher”) and more. When it comes to Britney the real person, as opposed to the pop star, Spears believes most people only know about “half” of what makes her who she is. “I can be pretty guarded with my personal life and I’ve learned that’s okay,” she says. “Your personal life is your personal life, and should stay private.” Keeping people guessing, she says, is part of her job. “Sometimes it’s our secrets that define us,” she says. It’s no secret Britney Spears has had a wild life. So what would she do if her boys – Sean Preston, 5, and Jayden James, 4 – pursued pop stardom? “I’d definitely keep an eye on them,” she says. “But if that’s what they really wanted to do then I’d let them go after it. I’d just be very protective.” “I wouldn’t want them to go into it feeling fearful, and also nobody can really prepare you for this and what you experience,” says the 29-year-old. “I’d just have to trust their instincts and help guide them.” Learning to trust her instincts was hard for her personally. “The biggest mistake I’ve ever made [was] to not trust my instincts,” she says. “It’s just about listening to your gut in different situations. Elsewhere, Lovato touched on her constant battle and how she manages to maintain mental health these days. “I surround myself with people that are beneficial in my recovery and my recovery is still a daily battle and I definitely hang out with people that support me in making the right decisions,” Lovato said . “I’m a happier and healthier person today because of the choices I’ve made.” We wish her the best of luck with all those choices. Recovering singer says during ‘MTV First: Sean Kingston’ he hopes to release new music by year’s end. By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Sway Calloway Sean Kingston Photo: MTV News After recalling the incidents of his “life-or-death” accident during “MTV First: Sean Kingston,” the singer opened up about his plans to get back to work and release new music by year’s end. “[I’m] focused on music again, about to start working on a new album and get back out there again,” he said during the chat at his house in Miami. “I’m excited about the project. It’s going to be really dope.” Given the intensity of his accident and the recovery process, Kingston has a whole new perspective on songwriting. “I haven’t lost no memory; I think I’m even better at writing and stuff,” he said. “Being in the hospital, having all this time off, I’ve been writing and coming up with different ideas. I’m ready to go.” Kingston is best known for his reggae-infused pop tracks like “Beautiful Girls” and “Take You There,” and his still-in-the-works new album will certainly touch on the sound that catapulted him to stardom. “I’m going back in with my producer J.R. [Rotem], who did really big records for me. I’m going back to the whole reggae, island-pop thing. I’m going back to my roots,” he said. “I think it’s definitely going to open up a lot of people, because now I got a story to tell,” he later said. “The world needs to know what I’m coming with, ’cause I’m coming with straight heat. I’ve been down. I’ve been in the house coming up with ideas. My producer J.R., he’s a hitmaker. It’s gonna be my third album, I’m older now. It’s gonna be crazy.” While in the hospital, Kingston had his jaw wired shut for a time. It was a situation Kanye West once found himself in that sparked his first hit “Through the Wire.” Kingston certainly wouldn’t rule out writing a song about his recovery — or working with ‘Ye, for that matter. “Oh man, he’s in my top five rappers,” he said. “I met him twice, and he’s a great person. He’s definitely talented. I’m actually waiting for him and the Jay-Z album [ Watch the Throne ] to drop. I’d be more than excited to collaborate with him.” Kingston — the Jamaican-American singer who broke onto the scene with the “Stand by Me”-sampling song “Beautiful Girls” and scored another hit with the Justin Bieber collabo “Eenie Meenie” last year — was rushed to the hospital May 29 after a jet-ski crash.
