Jeremy Renner ‘Not Injured’ In Bar Fight

A rep disputes a report to MTV News that the ‘Mission Impossible’ actor was injured in Thailand. By Jocelyn Vena Jeremy Renner Photo: Getty Images “Mission Impossible – Ghost Protocol” star Jeremy Renner is just fine. Despite previous reports, the actor’s rep confirmed to MTV News that he was not injured in a bar fight in Thailand. “Jeremy was there [but] was not involved,” a rep for the actor told MTV News. “When a fight broke out, he exited [and] was not injured.” The Phuket Gazette reports that Renner had been hanging out at the Rachada Pub in Phuket Town when six employees stabbed and injured two local men, Sri Panwa Resort General Manager Vorasit Issara and Maj Gen Chonasit, early Wednesday. The newspaper further reports that Renner had been in their company, along with Vorasit’s driver, Noppadon Preechawai, and several other friends. The Gazette originally reported that Renner had been injured in the scuffle. Prior to arriving at Rachada Pub, the group had also been spotted at two other local hotspots, KorTorMor Pub and another club near Royal Phuket City Hotel. The six men are currently being held by local authorities and addressed the media at a press conference on Thursday. The pub where the incident occurred has since been shut down for six months because it violated a local curfew. Renner has been in Manila, Philippines filming “The Bourne Legacy,” the actor’s rep said. He recently opened up to MTV News about filming “Legacy” and filling in the spot left vacant by the franchise’s longtime star, Matt Damon. “He’s always been so complimentary to me from the moment I met him. Such a great guy,” Renner said. “He’s a very, very complimentary, loving dude.” Check out everything we’ve got on “The Bourne Legacy.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com .

Matt Damon: Jeremy Renner ‘Obvious Choice’ For ‘Bourne Legacy’

‘He’s such a good actor and can carry a movie,’ actor tells MTV News. By Kevin P. Sullivan, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Jeremy Renner Photo: Getty Images In August, when “The Bourne Legacy” opens in theaters, the man behind Jason Bourne, Matt Damon , won’t be anywhere in sight. At least that’s what the actor says. Damon sat down with MTV News’ Josh Horowitz while promoting his new film, “We Bought a Zoo,” and he insisted he had no part in the fourth “Bourne” movie. “No, I’m not in that one. I haven’t even read the script,” he said. But as a key component of the series, Damon was able to give his take on how “Legacy,” which is being directed by Tony Gilroy, fits in with the previous three films. “My understanding is that it’s like if you think of ‘X-Men’ and then ‘Wolverine,’ the spin-off movie, just think of it in reverse,” he explained. “There’s the Bourne character, and then there’s this whole world. It doesn’t preclude [director] Paul Greengrass and I from doing another [‘Bourne’ movie].” Damon had spoken with the star of “Bourne Legacy,” Jeremy Renner , briefly, but he insisted the conversation didn’t have much to do with the series. “We didn’t really talk about the movie much. I’m just a huge fan of his,” Damon said. When Damon and Greengrass — who directed the second and third “Bourne” films — met to move forward with the series after “Ultimatum,” Renner was a topic of conversation. “When Paul Greengrass and I were talking about the character and maybe doing a fourth one a couple years ago and maybe passing it off to somebody, Renner was the guy we talked about. He’s an obvious choice, because he’s such a good actor and can carry a movie,” he said. For Damon, the “Bourne” movies strike a difficult balance that he feels Renner can successfully handle. “Those movies are really tough, because you need the guy to be internally tortured about something, and Jeremy’s the kind of guy you could watch,” Damon said. “You could remove the action and watch Jeremy just angst over something for two hours, and it could be really compelling.” Check out everything we’ve got on “The Bourne Legacy.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com . Matt Damon Blasts Tony Gilroy’s Bourne Ultimatum Script: ‘It Was Unreadable’

“I don’t blame Tony for taking a boatload of money and handing in what he handed in,” Matt Damon told GQ recently about Gilroy’s script for the third Jason Bourne film, The Bourne Ultimatum — a script Gilroy agreed to write for “an exorbitant amount of money” as long as he only had to provide one draft and pay no regard to studio notes. “It’s just that it was unreadable. This is a career-ender. I mean, I could put this thing up on eBay and it would be game over for that dude. It’s terrible. It’s really embarrassing. He was having a go, basically, and he took his money and left.” Gilroy wrote and directed the latest Bourne film The Bourne Legacy , due in theaters this August with Jeremy Renner starring. Jeremy Renner Wasn’t Really Anyone’s First Pick For New Bourne Series

In a fascinating peek into the sausage factory that is the new Jason Bourne-less Bourne series, Vulture is reporting that Jeremy Renner’s recent casting as the new heir apparent to Jason Bourne came about not because of some great desire for Renner but as part of a grand compromise between director Tony Gilroy and Universal. It seems like Renner wasn’t so much the bowl of porridge that was just right, but the bowl of porridge that was least objectionable.

Is Joel Edgerton Bourne to Replace Matt Damon? [UPDATE: Nope]

Sinister news in the rumor yard, dear teens: Since Matt Damon ditched the series, Aussie actor Joel Edgerton (of Animal Kingdom ) may be cast as an agent named Martin who was part of a Treadstone-like program in the upcoming Bourne Legacy . Director Tony Gilroy reportedly wants Edgerton for the role, but the studio is concerned about his fame level and potential to star in the concurrently filmed Snow White movie (now that Hugh Jackman has dropped out). I’m personally ready for a female Bourne. Is it too late to suggest Marion Cotillard? In a flak jacket? And sensible trousers? UPDATE : Our pal Jeremy Renner got the part! [ Deadline ]

Will Jeremy Renner Nab The Lead In The New Jason Bourne-less Bourne Sequel?

We’ve already given you our favorite three oddball choices to cast as the new lead in the new Jason Bourne-less Bourne sequel, but now it seems like there’s another contender on the horizon: busy man about town Jeremy Renner. Though director Tony Gilroy reportedly prefers Oscar Isaac (Blue the pimp from Sucker Punch ), Universal is pressing hard for Renner. While Renner is a fine actor and would probably do well enough it, he oughtta take care. Between the Avengers and Mission: Impossible his multi-film series dance card is filling up quickly. We love you Jeremy, but beware the Jude Law Ubiquity danger zone! [ /Film ]
