Tournament of THG: The 2011 Champion is …

The First Annual Tournament of THG has come to an end. We began with 16 top stars in mid-December, with the simple mission of determining our readers’ favorite celebrity on THG. Your votes narrowed it down to Miley Cyrus and Demi Lovato, who waged an epic championship round battle. The margin was RAZOR-THIN: Just 50.1 percent for the champion and 49.9 for the runner-up. Could Lovatics carry their girl to victory, or would the Smilers prevail? Who emerged victorious, after 36,787 votes ? Find out after the jump… Demi Lovato , trailing by as much as five percent yesterday afternoon, rallied to pull off the slimmest of victories in an epic see-saw battle. Unbelievable!!! Congratulations to Demi, and also to Miley and their respective fans on an amazing, close competition and a great run. With results that close, there is really no loser. More importantly, thank you to all who voted in the finals and throughout the last several weeks! The Tournament of THG was a success and we are forever grateful. And not to worry, fans of Miley and other stars: Another chance will come. In honor of March Madness, a new, much larger tournament will begin in just two months at The Hollywood Gossip! Katy Perry fans celebrate Artist of the Year win, while Nicki Minaj fans think she should have come out on top. By Kara Klenk Katy Perry Photo: Getty Images For MTV’s Best of 2011 , our panel of experts counted down the Artists of the Year — the people they felt really owned the past 12 months. Fans certainly had a lot to say about the list, commenting on everything from the order to the artists who didn’t make the top 10. There were a lot of comments that Adele or Gaga should have been in the top two instead of Katy Perry and Nicki Minaj , while some fans were angry that Bruno Mars and Chris Brown didn’t make the cut. (One fan even said Internet sensation Rebecca Black should have made the list.) While every fan wanted their favorite artist to be #1, it came down to Perry and Minaj vying for the top spot, and their fans loudly voiced their respective support of the pop star and rapper. A few were even torn over the decision! Katy Cats got their claws out to support Katy Perry, like Facebook user Sophia Santi who cheered, “She is the best she deserves that prize and has accomplished many [records] in music’s history!!! She has to win!!! Go katy go katy!!!” The Barbz and Kenz also made their voices heard in support of Nicki Minaj. Manale Dkd Makuse hit Facebook to say, “Lie to yourselves all you want, as usual Nicki is taking it home. Love katy but she’s so last year. Nicki is a queen this is her era get used to it.” Katy was announced as the Artist of the Year, with Nicki taking the #2 spot. Katy’s fans rejoiced. @Rockprincess91 tweeted, ” @katyperry werked so hard! She totes deserves it! She’s a legend! She’s life! ProudofKatyPerry

Report Says Bishop Eddie Long Settled For $24.8 Million, Gave Private Apology

A new report has surfaced claiming that New Birth Missionary Baptist Church pastor Bishop Eddie Long is paying nearly $25 million and has given a private apology to settle claims he had improper sexual relationships with four young male parishioners. According to Redding News Review , a source who claims to be familiar with the details of the settlement and did not wish to be identified, said that Long refused to give a public apology, which ended up costing him more. Long allegedly gave each men a private apology. What began as a $2 million agreement to settle the case for each of the four men quickly rose to $5.5 million for the respective plaintiffs, the source said, only because Long refused to publicly admit guilt. The final figure comes to $22 million for the four men and $2.8 million for the plaintiffs attorneys. The church had reportedly already been paying these four young men $40,000 annually each before any charges were filed, the source said. ‘Super 8’ Exclusive Brings Us Closer To The Mystery

At the MTV Movie Awards, J.J. Abrams and Co. gave an exclusive peek at what triggers his flick’s chaotic chain of events. By Kara Warner Joel Courtney, Ryan Lee and Riley Griffiths in “Super 8” Photo: Paramount The masterfully mysterious marketing campaign behind J.J. Abrams’ would-be blockbuster “Super 8” — which has included teasers, the super8secret.com site, TV spots and other veiled preview pieces — will officially come to an end this Friday, when the film finally opens nationwide in theaters. Until then, however, we must turn your attention to one more bit of teasery: the exclusive extended “Super 8” clip that was presented during the 2011 MTV Movie Awards on Sunday (June 5). Introduced by none other than Abrams, executive producer Steven Spielberg, and stars Elle Fanning and Joel Courtney, this new footage takes us closer to the mystery than we’ve been able to get thus far. The spot opens with six kids (Fanning, Courtney, Riley Griffiths, Gabriel Basso, Ryan Lee and Zach Mills) in the middle of shooting their own movie at a train station, late at night. The sound of an oncoming train disrupts the scene, followed by the blaring of the train whistle, a shot of a truck speeding onto the track and colliding into the train, creating a chaotic explosion, which is captured by the super 8 camera that the kids were using to film their movie. This then sets into motion a series of action sequences, all pegged to the mystery of what prompted the train crash and what classified cargo may or may not have been onboard. There are eerie non-human sound effects, quick cuts of a small town in turmoil over a series of inexplicable events, explosions, military officials trying to decide how to destroy the certain something that is causing all the destruction, and our kid heroes caught up in the middle of it. So, wow. What does it all mean? For those who prefer not to dig too deep into trailers and teaser footage, we respect your willpower and desire to remain unspoiled. Weezy started out rapping as a youngster, but the self-proclaimed martian has since stepped into the realm of pop and rock, selling more than 10 million albums along the way. Weezy is well-rounded, for sure, and, according to him, that’s what made him the perfect choice to bring hip-hop back to MTV’s “Unplugged” series. “It’s very intimate and they damn sure picked the right artist to do it, because if you’re not a full artist, you can’t do that. You can’t do an ‘Unplugged,’ ” Lil Wayne told us after the taping last month of “MTV2 Presents: Lil Wayne Unplugged.” “You have to be a full-circle artist. You have to have everything, because it’s so intimate. And if there are any flaws, they will be spotted. So I suggest you be flawless.” The program, which is set to premiere across MTV2, MTV and MTV.com on Sunday, June 12, at 9 p.m. ET/PT, will feature Tunechi performing acoustic versions of select hits from his classic catalog. The show will be MTV’s first televised hip-hop unplugged concert since Jay-Z and Lauryn Hill taped their respective specials in 2001 and will come 20 years after LL Cool J, A Tribe Called Quest and De La Soul appeared on the original “YO! Unplugged Rap.” The special comes as Wayne and his Cash Money label are preparing to release the MC’s ninth studio album, Tha Carter IV, on August 29 . “Lil Wayne is an amazing choice for ‘Unplugged’ as he is at hip-hop’s forefront — leading a new generation of artists whose appeal spans across music genres and playlists,” Amy Doyle, MTV’s executive vice president of music and talent, said in a statement. “Lil Wayne’s skills, influence, and catalog are a powerful addition to the legacy of artists who have rocked the ‘Unplugged’ stage.” MTV’s “Unplugged” first debuted in 1989 and spotlighted artists like Eric Clapton, Nirvana, Mariah Carey, R.E.M., Jay-Z and Bob Dylan.
