THG Asks: Should Rex Ryan Be Disciplined Over His Wife’s Foot Video?

Welcome to THG’s new feature, in which two of our celebrity gossip experts debate topical issues in the entertainment world and you decide who wrote the winning argument! Today, THG Asks : Should Rex Ryan face disciplinary action over his wife’s foot fetish video? YES by Hilton Hater When Rex signed a contract that pays $3 million a year, he did so with the acknowledgment that he was accepting more than just owner Woody Johnson’s money and the task of leading the Jets to their first Super Bowl since 1969. He was also trading in any semblance of a private life. Ryan coaches in new York, the sports equivalent of Beverly Hills when it comes to tabloid coverage. He’s the face of a franchise. He had to have known this embarrassing video would surface. It was his responsibility to do what he could to remove it. Not because I care one iota about what Rex Ryan’s sex life. But because a coach’s job is to motivate, not distract. When Darrelle Revis is answering questions about the pinky toe tickle instead of the zone blitz, something is very wrong. NO by Free Britney

‘Vice Guide To Everything’ Host Recalls Residential Strip Club

Ryan Duffy discusses meeting Detroit man who runs a 24-hour strip club in dead parents’ house on premiere episode. By Rya Backer Ryan Duffy Photo: Mark Metcalf/ Getty Images A lot happens on MTV’s new series “The Vice Guide to Everything.” Hosts Ryan Duffy, Thomas Morton, and Shane Smith — who also co-founded the magazine that launched the Vice brand 15 years ago — travel to places like Russia, Ghana and North Korea in search of compelling people and their stories, which they’ll share with MTV viewers on Mondays at 11 p.m. Duffy’s adventures this season include getting shot (while wearing a bulletproof jacket) in Colombia and trailing a Mafia-funded pop star in Naples, Italy, but he recently told MTV News he didn’t have to travel far for his most memorable meeting. “I will always very vividly remember meeting Jay Thunderbolt,” Duffy said about the Detroit man who was running a 24-hour all-nude strip club out of his dead parents’ house. Duffy was treated to complimentary shots, got to look through Thunderbolt’s self-defense gear and enjoyed a lap dance from his crew of willing ladies. But the host admitted that he ran up against MTV’s standards team when it came to the footage. “You could show the girl doing the flip on my lap where she put her legs up. She started to spread them, but you couldn’t show the spreading. You had to cut it right before then,” Duffy explained. “Which was fine with me, by the way, because I have a mother and a grandmother,” he added. Thunderbolt clearly made an impression on the rest of the “Vice Guide” family, too, as he was invited to the show’s New York premiere last week with his return flight booked for the next day. “The thing about Jay is he probably hasn’t left Detroit in 30 years. He hasn’t flown in, God knows how long. When we booked him a flight his first question was, ‘How many of my guns can I bring?’ His second was, ‘Could you get me a smoking seat?’ Clearly a little bit dated in his travel plans, but the next day, Jay did not get in the cab we sent to bring him to the airport, or the next cab, or the next one, or the fifth one. And we have no idea whether he ever got on a flight and went home,” Duffy lamented. “So, Jay Thunderbolt could be roaming the streets of New York right now.” “The Vice Guide to Everything” airs Mondays at 11 p.m. ET on MTV. Richie Hawtin Explains His Plastikman Alter Ego’s ‘Arkives’ Collection

‘I have this opportunity to bring that darker, even weirder sound to this new, ever-growing audience,’ he tells MTV News of digitizing his back catalog. By Adam Stewart Richi Hawtin aka Plastikman Photo: MTV News Richie Hawtin’s Plastikman alter ego feels that something is missing from our current state of dance music, and he’s doing something about it. “There are hundreds, if not thousands, of electronic-music dance tracks coming out each day, so there are black holes in its history that need to be digitized. For us in the electronic-music world, we haven’t had our Beatles [iTunes] moment yet,” said Hawtin, who just scored the #2 slot on Resident Advisor’s Top DJs of 2010 readers poll. “There’s still a lot of the electronic music history missing online.” This notion is what prompted Hawtin, under his Plastikman moniker, to release Arkives , a retrospective of the dark side of a dance-music pioneer. “Plastikman always comes back when I feel there’s something to say or there’s something missing in the scene,” Hawtin said. “I have this opportunity — or maybe even this responsibility — to bring that darker, even weirder sound to this new, ever-growing audience. “This is what I’m doing with my Arkives project,” he continued. “I’m trying to bring that stuff back, digitize it and represent it for those new fans of Hawtin or deadmau5 and say, ‘Hey, if you’re really into electronic music right now in 2010 — I don’t want to give you a history lesson, but there is some foundation that you’d probably find interesting and get in to.’ ” In a day where dance music is reaching the masses, big-room house and trance seem to reign supreme. Plastikman, however, has set out on a mission to keep the dark and sinister side of the genre alive, and in doing so, he has inspired some of the biggest names in the biz. “I love that guy!” deadmau5 told MTV News of one of his key musical influences. “He’s someone who I definitely look at for wisdom. We’re billed at a lot of the same events, and we click! We’re the two ‘hoser Canadians,’ like, in the middle of Madrid, and he’s a really good guy.” “To hear that what I’ve been doing has been working, and continues to work, gives me that power to hopefully be inspired and keep reinspiring the next generation,” Hawtin told MTV News. “I want more kids to grow up thinking that technology is just as much of an instrument as a guitar or a drum.” As founder and co-founder of Minus and Plus 8 Records, respectively, Hawtin has made an indelible mark on the industry as a producer and a technological pioneer. Not only did he develop Traktor DJ software, but he is also one of the founding fathers of online EMD retailer Beatport. Hawtin has had a hand in guiding the entire industry toward what it is today, while at the same time keeping its roots intact. “Electronic music is not pop or pop music; it’s a little bit fringe,” he said. “And I want it to be fringe in a way, a little bit just to the left side. … It’s my belief that if we help build that language and keep that foundation there, then it only opens up the possibilities for cooler things to happen.” 2011 promises to be a banner year for Hawtin, as he gears up for a whirlwind global tour. Starting with a New Year’s Eve performance at Mexico’s BPM, Hawtin then jet-sets to Spain several dates before turning around and heading back to Mexico to close out the weeklong BPM. After a rare month back in his studio in Germany, he’ll be off to Australia’s Future Music Festival and, finally, Miami in late March, where he and his camp intend to keep their shows in line with the Ultra Music Festival, not the official Winter Music Conference . “We have these moments through the year, the Electric Zoo here [in New York], the Detroit [Electronic Music] Festival, the Winter Music Conference — these are the dates we count on as DJs and as businesspeople to come and promote and have fun, and we’ve been doing that for years. And for someone to try to change that? At the end of the day, I think the electronic-music scene is a great and very strong music community, and that’s why you’ll see a great and strong community come through this with a great weekend in the end of March.”

Man Proves TSA Policies Are Unconstitutional

Blogger Matt Kernan was able to bypass both the naked body scanner and invasive TSA pat down procedures during his return to the United States this past weekend, proving that both measures are completely unconstitutional and creating a precedent for a total shake-up of airport security. Kernan, who documents the case on his website, was returning from a trip to Europe and was perturbed to see TSA workers making Americans who had already cleared security in their airport of origin go through backscatter x-ray machines and be groped simply to re-enter their own country. “You see, it is official TSA policy that people (both citizens and non-citizens alike) from international flights are screened as they enter the airport, despite the fact that they have already flown,” writes Kernan. “Even before the new controversial security measures were put in place, I found this practice annoying. But now, as I looked past the 25 people waiting to get into their own country, I saw it: the dreaded Backscatter imaging machine.” Having seen the plethora of cases in recent weeks of TSA thugs abusing and humiliating women and children, Kernan, who had no connecting flight and time to kill, decided to take a stand. So begins Kernan’s description of his 2 and a half hour debate with TSA officials and airport police after he refused to go through the naked scanner or be groped. After TSA workers laughed at Kernan for opting out of the radiation scanner, he politely informed them that if they touched his genitals he would consider it an assault. With TSA officials repeating “policy” like a broken record, Kernan stated, “I am aware that it is policy, but I disagree with the policy, and I think that it is unconstitutional. As a U.S. citizen, I have the right to move freely within my country as long as I can demonstrate proof of citizenship and have demonstrated no reasonable cause to be detained.” Soon after the TSA Supervisor, a Delta Airlines manager and the airport police were called and Kernan informed them that he was recording the audio of the exchange on his iPhone. “I will not do anything that is not explicitly stated on recording as mandatory,” Kernan told them, as the police suggested they conduct the pat down instead of the TSA. However, the cops were forced to back down when they refused to state on record that Kernan would have to have his genitals touched in order to be free to go. After a disagreement between the police and the TSA about who had jurisdiction to arrest Kernan, the police began to get frustrated with the TSA Supervisor for pawning off the responsibility on them. At this point, the Supervisor tried to involve the “Federal Security Director,” who was told that Kernan was being polite and citing his constitutional rights. After more deliberation, Kernan was eventually escorted out of the airport without having to go through a naked body scanner or have his genitals groped. “And then came the most ridiculous scene of which I’ve ever been a part. I gather my things – jacket, scarf, hat, briefcase, chocolates. We walk over to the staff entrance and he scans his badge to let me through. We walk down the long hallway that led back to the baggage claim area. We skip the escalators and moving walkways. As we walk, there are TSA officials stationed at apparent checkpoints along the route. As we pass them, they form part of the circle that is around me. By the end of the walk, I count 13 TSA officials and 2 uniformed police officers forming a circle around me. President Obama Urges Students To ‘Get Schooled’

‘The farther you go in school, the farther you’ll go in life,’ he says during his annual back-to-school speech. By Gil Kaufman President Barack Obama shakes hands with students at the Julia R. Masterman Laboratory and Demonstration School in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on Tuesday Photo: Tim Sloan/ AFP/ Getty Images President Barack Obama gave the second “back-to-school” speech of his presidency on Tuesday (September 14), and his message was very clear. “Nobody gets to write your destiny but you,” he told the students at Julia R. Masterman Laboratory and Demonstration School in Philadelphia. “Your future is in your hands. Your life is what you make of it. And nothing — absolutely nothing — is beyond your reach. So long as you’re willing to dream big. So long as you’re willing to work hard. So long as you’re willing to stay focused on your education.” That hope-filled exhortation to the National Blue Ribbon School, one of the best in Philly due to its students’ high achievement, was aimed both at the kids and the parents, teachers and school leaders who help the students perform at a high level. The president described how he and his wife, first lady Michelle Obama, have been preparing their children Sasha and Malia for school over the past few weeks and how the Masterman kids are probably lamenting the end of summer, even as they get excited about new possibilities. “I’m sure there will be times in the months ahead when you’re staying up late cramming for a test, or dragging yourselves out of bed on a rainy morning, and wondering if it’s all worth it,” he said, adding that he also suspected they were nervous about how the recession and the ongoing war in Afghanistan were forcing them to “act a lot older” to be strong for their families. “Let me tell you, there is no question about it. Nothing will have as great an impact on your success in life as your education.” He said he understood that some of the students are worried about their futures and whether they will achieve their dreams. Which is why he promised them that education is more important than ever. “More and more, the kinds of opportunities that are open to you will be determined by how far you go in school,” he said. “In other words, the farther you go in school, the farther you’ll go in life. And at a time when other countries are competing with us like never before; when students around the world are working harder than ever, and doing better than ever; your success in school will also help determine America’s success in the 21st century.” Obama, who admitted he wasn’t always the best student, said it will take a group effort from parents, politicians, students and teachers working their hardest to transform those educational aspirations into reality. “That’s what we have to do for you. That’s our responsibility,” he said. “That’s our job. But here’s your job. Showing up to school on time. Paying attention in class. Doing your homework. Studying for exams. Staying out of trouble. That kind of discipline and drive — that kind of hard work — is absolutely essential for success.” Stay tuned to MTV News for more information about how you can get the president to speak at your commencement celebration at the end of this school year.

Kanye West Apologizes To Taylor Swift For 2009 VMA Interruption

‘I’m sorry, Taylor,’ West wrote on Twitter Saturday morning. By Paul Cantor Kanye West and Taylor Swift at the 2009 Video Music Awards Photo: Jeff Kravitz/ FilmMagic Kanye West took to his Twitter account Saturday morning (September 4) to readdress the 2009 Video Music Awards , when he fatefully interrupted Taylor Swift’s acceptance speech . “I’m sorry, Taylor,” he wrote. “We’re both artists, and the media and managers are trying to get between us. She deserves the apology more than anyone. Thank you [Twitter co-founders] Biz Stone and Evan Williams for creating a platform where we can communicate directly.” Expounding on the backlash he received, he wrote, “If you Google a–hole my face may very well pop up 2 pages into the search. … There are people who don’t dislike me … they absolutely hate me. People tweeted that they wish I was dead … No listen. They wanted me to die, people. I carry that.” Kanye went on to say that the media vilified him. He alluded to his claim during a 2005 NBC telethon for Hurricane Katrina that “George Bush doesn’t care about black people,” as a point for which the media was looking to pay him back. He noted that in the VMA aftermath, the media played the race card and turned it into an angry black man versus innocent white girl issue. “Even though the NBC telethon was widely praised y’all didn’t think they was just gone let me get away with that did y’all???!!!” he questioned, rhetorically. “The media has successfully diminished the ‘receptive’ audience of… KANYE WEST. …taking a 15 second blip the media have successfully painted the image of the ‘ANGRY BLACK MAN.’ The King Kong theory. With the help of strong will, a lack of empathy, a lil alcohol and extremely distasteful & bad timing … I became George Bush over night.” Kanye also said that he had a song he’d written for Taylor. Should she not be receptive to that idea, he said he’d perform it for her. “She had nothing to do with my issues with award shows,” he wrote. “She had no idea what hit her. She’s justa lil girl with dreams like the rest of us. Beyonc

Greenpeace Argentina Makes Procter & Gamble Take Charge For Tons Of Used Batteries

Photo: Courtesy of Greenpeace Argentina. Some may argue that Greenpeace has its twisted ways, but sometimes they just nail it. In Argentina, last year there was a huge controversy over a used batteries recycling program by the Buenos Aires government: essentially they were collecting them without a clear plan on what to do with this highly toxic waste, and when a province from the interior of the country said they were not taking them into their landfills, well, they were left with tons … Read the full story on TreeHugger

Svetlana Lazareva in her Cheap Monday Jeans of the Day

Since I am officially a fashion site now. I figure part of my responsibility to you is to introduce you to lesser known models who happen to have a name that everyone I know uses when mocking hot immigrant pussy…especially when they are pulling some pretty pornographic shots that aren’t pornographic cuz they are shot to indirectly promote some jeans company called Cheap Monday…cuz fashion is pornographic, it just the more socially acceptable variety that doesn’t involve penetration, but still features women getting paid to do virtually nothing half naked, just cuz people like the look of them and the fact that they are willing to get down to a variety of nakedness. Either way, remember this is a Fashion site….I don’t want you guys to get the wrong idea and ruin my chances at Privat Islands and Rolls Royces and Villas in the Mediterranean and whatever else it is that fashion people do.

And in the Category of Pointless Celebrity Tripe, the Winner is …

… drum roll please, accompanied by the sound of one hand clapping … Jamie Lee Curtis , for this strained attempt at relevance on The Huffington Post. The “actress, children’s book author” begins her screed by quoting Michael Jackson, that philosopher for the ages, from his song “Man in the Mirror.” After posting the lyrics in their entirety, Curtis writes — It is a tragedy he couldn’t follow his own advice. This week has given us all a chance to look in a mirror. The mirror of our hatred, racism, and the sad, harrowing realities of addiction, enabling and omnipotence run amok. To paraphrase the punchline of that old joke about the Lone Ranger and Tonto surrounded by hostile Indians, what’s this “our” stuff, paleface? More excerpts — The World Cup, in all its global glory, reminds us each day: say no to racism. The World Cup reminds us, especially now that it’s mercifully over — no wonder soccer hasn’t caught on in America. A championship game won in overtime with score of 1-0 — they’re kidding, right?! Addiction and all its descendants, enablers, co-dependents, co-defendants, co-conspirators, warring parents passing the blame like athletes pass the ball as we are watching oil executives pass on the responsibility … all of this available for our absorption and hopefully our discussion. Wow, hard to believe the editors at HuffPo let that “discussion” pass without changing it to “dialogue” (though “hopefully” slipping through comes as no surprise). And do analogies get more pithy than “warring parents passing the blame like athletes pass the ball”? Unless they’re World Cup competitors and the next goal hours away. The problem is that we like to point and stare and then return to the dark. The lights are on everyone, we just have to see. Isn’t this what Big Brother always wanted for us? The audio of Mr. Gibson is another new perspective. It is the audio of millions of people all over this country. Ms. Curtis speaks from experience, hearing these voices in her head on a regular basis. And the images of Ms. Lohan weeping in court and soon, in a prison uniform, are the images of hundreds of thousands young inmates, with no flashy lawyers or media outlets chronicling their exploits. They are alone, living with the realities of their actions and the system’s reaction to it. Alas, they are represented by mere court-appointed attorneys on the taxpayer dime. Unless those accused are jihadists, whereupon the ACLU and Center for Constitional Rights parachute to their defense.  I was also shocked at the vitriol and spew being leveled at Lebron James. So shocked I couldn’t bother getting his name right. Yes, the special seemed over the top but he was and is allowed to make a choice that is his … … and as my yoga shaman reminds me during my weekly colonic cleanse, all choices are equally valid. The Cav’s owner, instead of thanking him for all his years of skill and service to his team and town, instead eviscerated him like the mob in France with King Louis. Except that Louis was beheaded and James leaves Cleveland fabulously wealthy, the world his oyster. Except for that. The origin of the red flag of revolution being the Red Guards — after the King’s protectors’ uniforms were ripped from their torn and savaged bodies, the red uniforms were turned into flags on sticks representing revolution and its bloody aftermath. They burned Mr. James’ jerseys. Burned them. Really? Can the burning crosses be far behind? (barely suppressed sob) You think it’s easy being this deeply sensitive?! So here we are, world cup fever at its peak, the final match, the champions to be decided. We will all get to see those beautiful young children holding the hands of the players as they walk them out onto the field of play and we will all weep as they unfurl the banner … SAY NO TO RACISM. The question is can we peacefully raise the red flag against it and revolt and boycott and protest and put democracy to work against this enemy? … who clearly include Cleveland Cavs owner Dan Gilbert, though I prefer to imply this in weasel fashion instead of coming out and saying it.
