The movie was filmed in hyper-crisp 3D with 12 cameras. The additions to the biopic are the Lasers, pyrotechnics, and a basket ball court size video screen, as all the hits of Justin Bieber from “U Smile” to “Baby”. For the first long stretch of Carancho , Pablo Trapero’s elegantly drawn, of-the-moment noir, the camera swerves and wends behind, around and in front of its subjects, brokering space and mapping their movements with smooth, sympathetic constancy. It follows Sosa (Ricardo Darín) and it follows Luján (Martina Gusman), two professionals who cruise the streets of Buenos Aires at night with a vaguely overlapping purpose. Luján is a paramedic and Sosa is a personal injury lawyer. In Argentina, traffic accidents are the leading cause of death for people under 35, so their nights are long.

Where would indie cinema be without the hopes and dreams and peccadilloes of the little people? In their ordinary fleece pullovers and loud ties? Miguel Arteta’s alleged comedy Cedar Rapids was apparently made by, and largely for, people who would never go to a place like Cedar Rapids without saying to their friends with a sneer, “Yeah, Cedar Rapids! Can you believe it?” It’s a movie that needs to look down its nose for its laughs, which generally isn’t the best place to find them.
