Twilight and Photoshop, Forever: A Brief History of Weird Posters

The marketing blitz accompanying this week’s Breaking Dawn release has prompted a bit of nostalgia about The Twilight Saga around Movieline HQ — particularly its eminently intriguing movie posters. Gone is the quaint patina of the original 2008 film, with sultry, semi-known Robert Pattinson locking his poo-colored gaze and clay-like visage on virginal, vaguely known Kristen Stewart, both doctored with minimalist Photoshop fervor. But gone, too (for now, anyway), are the hilariously earnest, carefully manipulated one-sheets from New Moon and Eclipse — the hand-mangling, the cock-blocking, the stank-eyed cast of thousands. In fact, the new posters look like photographs of actual people ! Very attractive and heavily airbrushed people in romance-novel clutches, but people nonetheless. Join Movieline’s Dept. of Marketing Forensics in looking back on how we got here.

‘Breaking Dawn’ Vampire Contacts ‘Kill’ Kristen Stewart

‘That is one thing I can’t wait to say goodbye to,’ she tells MTV News. By Kara Warner, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart in “Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1” Photo: Summit Entertainment The dedicated Kristen Stewart fans out there are likely very well aware that she wears colored contact lenses for her role as Bella Swan in the “Twilight” movies. And in “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2,” Stewart dons the amber lenses her co-stars Robert Pattinson, Ashley Greene, Nikki Reed, Peter Facinelli, Elizabeth Reaser, Jackson Rathbone and Kellan Lutz have been wearing for years as part of their official Cullen vampire clan costuming. When MTV News caught up with Stewart recently, we asked about that experience and she revealed that, although she’s experienced with contacts, her new vampire ones weren’t much fun to wear. “They are worse. The yellow ones sort of limit your vision even more, and so you feel a little bit more closed off,” she said. “That is one thing I can’t wait to say goodbye to, is the contacts. They just kill you. [They give you] dead face.” Pattinson recently told us he was delighted that his co-star had to suffer with the rest of them. “She’s like, ‘I wear contact lenses. Why do you always complain about yours?’ ” Pattinson said. “When she finally wore them and then was complaining about them every second of the day, it was kind of satisfying.” Stewart said the yellow lenses were totally worth the trouble, because she was so excited to play the vampire version of Bella. “I’ve been waiting. To see her thrive anytime, it’s — she’s always so full of something that she knows, and it’s like, at this point, you finally go, ‘Oh, she was right,’ and she can also go, ‘OK, great, I’m not crazy, this was supposed to happen.’ ” Stewart said Bella’s previous feelings that she was different from others are validated in the final film. “The whole vampire thing, I wasn’t excited to be white and all that; I was really more excited to finally get her there, because she wants it so bad.” Tonight, join MTV.com live from the “Breaking Dawn – Part 1” red-carpet premiere as we talk to your favorite stars about all things “Twilight”! Conrad Murray Documentary to Air on MSNBC; Michael Jackson Estate, Fans Irate

As previously reported, MSNBC is planning to air a controversial documentary about Dr. Conrad Murray this weekend, and Michael Jackson’s estate is absolutely livid. The star’s executors issued a statement, saying, “Like so many of Michael’s fans, the Estate is disgusted by MSNBC’s irresponsible and inexplicable decision.” “Co-Executors John Branca and John McClain are sending a letter to executives at Comcast, NBC Universal and MSNBC to express disdain for their actions.” Jackson’s fans are understandably up in arms as well, with the group “Justice 4 MJ” trying to organize a global boycott of the documentary about Murray. “The only documentary we want to see is the one of Murray enjoying prison life,” they said . Murray was found guilty of manslaughter earlier this week. “Michael Jackson and The Doctor: A Fatal Friendship,” filmed during the lead-up to the trial, does not paint the late singer in a flattering light. Branca and McClean are irate that Murray has no qualms about “smearing the reputation of his ‘friend,'” even though he refused to testify under penalty of perjury in his trial, and at the network for giving him a platform. The co-executors doubt MSNBC’s claim that Murray got paid only $1 for his participation, claiming “moral loopholes” (such as those they’re reportedly using to try to lure Casey Anthony ) to “boost ratings at a struggling network.” Murray will be sentenced November 29.

Zsa Zsa Gabor Rushed to Hospital, Again

Zsa Zsa Gabor was rushed to the hospital today after blood began to spill out of the feeding tube in the 94-year-old Hollywood legend’s stomach. In a familiar pattern, her husband, Prince Frederic von Anhalt, called 911 approximately earlier this afternoon as soon as he noticed the bleeding. It’s been less than a month since Zsa Zsa was hospitalized the last time for the same reason, but Prince says that once again, she’s going to be okay. Gabor has been hospitalized repeatedly since July 2010, when she broke a hip falling from bed. Most of her right leg was amputated in January after an infection. With her health worsening, von Anhalt has been forced to list the pair’s palatial mansion – valued at a remarkable $28M – in order to pay for her medical fees. “I just want to settle my wife’s debts and keep her comfortable,” Von Anhalt told the Los Angeles Times . Here’s wishing her comfort in all aspects of her life.

Robert Pattinson Talks Twihards on The Late Show: Video

Taylor Lautner is not the only Twilight Saga star who often deals with older fans. The ab-riffic actor talked with Jimmy Kimmel this week about the enthusiastic mothers that have asked him to sign their underwear (seriously!), while co-star Robert Pattinson appeared on The Late Show with David Letterman last night and told similar stories. “It’s not just so much the teenage girls,” Robert said of his fan base. “It’s older than people realize and the older ones are the far more passionate fans.” Watch excerpts from the interview now: Robert Pattinson on The Late Show

Robert Pattinson Was ‘Delusional’ Before ‘Twilight’

So where would he be without the franchise? ‘Probably dead,’ he jokes to MTV News. By Kevin P. Sullivan, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Robert Pattinson Photo: George Pimentel/ Getty Images Where would Robert Pattinson be without “Twilight” and the undead character that made him a household name? “Probably dead,” he laughed to MTV News. Pattinson sat down with Josh Horowitz to look back on what the series has been for him both as an actor and as a person, and he said that without the vampire series, he doesn’t know what would have happened to him. For a while, the London-born actor didn’t know whether acting was for him and struggled with the question of continuing to appear in front of the camera. “I think a lot of actors think about that all the time,” he said. Pattinson said it has to do with the constant focus on an actor’s insecurities that drive people like him to question the profession. “You have to confront your insecurities quite a lot, and I have plenty, plenty of insecurities,” he laughed. “Even more [now]. Before, you could kind of bullsh– yourself all the time.” For him, obscurity allows for a little less honesty when it comes to self-image. “If no one cares about you, you can be like, ‘I’m the greatest person in the whole world,’ ” he said. “You can be completely delusional.” At 25, Pattinson said there is not even a small sense of vanity anymore. He said he hadn’t patted himself on the back for his looks in a while and that it’s to the point where he is “almost sick at the sight of [himself]. I’m getting older as well. I’m almost 50.” “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1” hits theaters November 18. ‘Breaking Dawn’ Wedding Is ‘Ceremonial,’ Kristen Stewart Says

‘Nobody saw it until I walked out,’ actress tells MTV News of bridal gown. By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart Photo: MTV News For those who caught the premiere of an exclusive new clip from “Breaking Dawn- Part 1” got a taste of all the emotions coursing through the lives of Bella and her family (both the Swans and the Cullens) as she readies herself to marry her immortal beloved, Edward. On Thursday, Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner introduced the clip and stuck around for a lengthy Q&A after the clip’s debut, during which they opened up about all the highly anticipated moments from the November 18 film. During the “MTV First” live stream, the “Breaking Dawn” trio took a video question from Tiffany, who wanted to know if Stewart kept her Carolina Herrera creation a secret from her fellow castmates until she walked down the aisle. “Nobody saw it until I walked out, which made me so … ” Stewart said before trailing off. “It wasn’t about the dress; it was just everything involved. I was like, ugh, so very the center of attention at that very moment.” The moment she’s referring to was an emotional one for the cast, who had spent three movies working up to the long-awaited nuptials between Bella and Edward. While it’s believed the groom shouldn’t see the bride before the wedding, Pattinson broke with tradition, much to Stewart’s dismay. “He saw it before,” she recalled. “And I was like, ‘No, you can’t.’ It did feel, like, very sort of realistically ceremonial.” It was so “realistically ceremonial” that Stewart couldn’t help but feel some real emotions the day they shot the buzzed-about scene. “It was very, very emotional for me,” Stewart said. “I don’t know about these guys.” Stick with MTV News for much more from our exclusive Q&A with Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner!
