The Expendables 2 blasted its way to the top of the box office this weekend, but Robert Pattinson also had a few thousand reasons to smile. While the Sylvester Stallone-penned action flick earned nearly $30 million and easily out-garnered The Bourne Legacy for the number-one ranking, Pattinson’s Cosmopolis – his first movie since news of the Kristen Stewart affair broke – grossed $72,000 at just three theaters. That gave Cosmopolis the weekend’s biggest per-screen average. So take that, D.B. Sweeney ! Sparkle – which featured Whitney Houston in her final big screen performance – landed in fifth place. But it sported the Top 10’s best per-theater average after The Expendables 2 . Here is a look at that top 10 from Friday and Saturday: The Expendables 2 , $28.8 million The Bourne Legacy , $17 million ParaNorman , $14 million The Campaign , $13.4 million Sparkle , $12 million The Dark Knight Rises , $11.1 million The Odd Life of Timothy Green , $10.9 million Hope Springs , $9.1 million Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Dog Days , $3.9 million Total Recall , $3.5 million
Robert Pattinson has made a handful of public appearances this week, but he’s mostly been mum on Kristen Stewart. Last night, for instance, the actor spoke to MTV exclusively about his new movie, Cosmopolis . But friends of Pattinson are reportedly doing all the talking necessary when it comes to his ex/estranged girlfriend, as Us Weekly claims pals are encouraging Robert to resist temptation. Sienna Miller and Tom Sturridge, among others close to the handsome star, have been “begging Rob to end it for good,” a Pattinson insider tells the tabloid. “They think she will hurt Rob again.” Some, of course, believe that Stewart is getting an unfair rap in this mess. Yes, she was wrong. But might she also have just made a single mistake and truly be in love with Robert? You tell us: Should Pattinson forgive Kristen and take her back?

This trailer’s worth a look just for the scenes with Christopher Walken at the 1:45 mark. He stars as “Hans” in Martin McDonagh’s upcoming dog-napping caper, Seven Psychopaths , and there’s something remarkably satisfying about watching Mr. “More Cowbell!” refusing to acquiesce to a shotgun-wielding tough-guy (played by Zeljko Ivanek) as if he were engaging in a sixth-grade playground stand-off. The movie is about a struggling writer, played by Colin Farrell, who finds himself in a whole lot of trouble after his friend, out-of-work actor and moonlighting dog-napper Sam Rockwell and his partner-in-crime (Walken) make off with a canine that belongs to a brutal gangster. Not sure about Tom Waits role, but also shows up in this trailer stroking a bunny. McDonagh’s In Bruges , which also starred Farrell, was such a tightly constructed black comedy that I’m really looking forward to this one. Watch it on YouTube.
Twi-hards — and the media — have certainly been paying more attention to David Cronenberg since the filmmaker cast Robert Pattinson in his latest, Cosmopolis , but they shouldn’t expect him to reciprocate. Movieline pal Grace Randolph caught The Fly director and his star on the red carpet at the New York premiere of Cosmopolis , where Cronenberg shrugged off the impact of Pattinson’s reported break-up with his Twilight star Kristen Stewart . “Honestly, that doesn’t touch me, and it doesn’t touch the movie,” said Cronenberg. “It’s really irrelevant. Not to [Rob] obviously, but to me and the movie. It doesn’t change the movie at all,” Cronenberg added. “That’s all media stuff.” The media was in full frenzy at the Peggy Siegal Company and Gucci-hosted premiere, which took place at the Museum of Modern Art in Midtown Manhattan, and Pattinson was their number-one target. Despite the crush, RPatz seemed to be enjoying the attention, and at one point was caught on Randolph’s camera saying: “The only thing I can be scared of is being bad.” Let’s see what the reviews say. Evelyn Lozada has filed to divorce Chad Johnson, not even six weeks after they got married. She filed legal documents just moments ago in Florida. Caiming her marriage is “irretrievably broken,” Evelyn was clearly motivated by the fight this weekend that led to her man’s domestic violence arrest. Even before the fight went nuclear – he’s accused of head-butting her (listen to the Chad Johnson 911 call here) – the union was on shaky ground. Lozada allegedly found a receipt for condoms in the duo’s car and flew off the handle, resulting in an altercation that landed the football player behind bars. There was no coming to his defense afterward, either. Instead, Evelyn Lozada ripped him in the media for not taking responsibility for his actions. According to the divorce documents, the couple had a prenuptial agreement in place. Good thing for Johnson, as he’s also out of an NFL job now. Evelyn and Chad got married in St. Maarten in July 4, with the wedding filmed for their VH1 reality show … which was canceled before it even aired. The only person with reason to smile now? Kim Kardashian. Compared to Ev & Ocho, her marriage looks like a long-lasting, non-violent success. [Photo: WENN.com]
Apparently all it took to put a big smile on the face of Robert Pattinson was a trip to The Big Apple. As previously reported, the actor Robert Pattinson laughed through an appearance on The Daily Show last night. He even ate some ice cream with host Jon Stewart. He then attended the red carpet premiere of Cosmopolis . Today, meanwhile, Pattinson rang the opening bell of the New York City Stock Exchange alongside director David Cronenberg. Watch them do so here:
Lady Gaga is under fire for rocking a fur coat on her European tour, with PETA penning a blistering open letter to Mother Monster and accusing her of betrayal. Dan Mathews, PETA’s senior vice president, wrote: “Many of your gay fans, myself among them, have long admired what you told Ellen [DeGeneres]: ‘I hate fur and I don’t wear fur.'” However, he adds, it appears “that you have amnesia … What happened? Are your stylists telling you that it’s fake, or are you a turncoat ?” The photo above, of Gaga exiting a hotel in Sofia, Bulgaria – with a puppy named Fozzi in her arms, adding insult to injury – sparked PETA’s outcry. Mathews tried to appeal to Gaga’s morality, likening PETA’s anti-animal cruelty efforts to her support of the gay community and equal rights. “PETA has long participated in [gay] Pride events around the country, and just last week we helped lead protests against Chick-fil-A ,” he added. “But by wearing those dumb furs in a heat wave, you’re making yourself a target just like the mindless Kim Kardashian.” “As we plan our fall campaigns, please tell us whether what you gracefully told Ellen was heartfelt or just a pose. We await your reply.” Accused of being a hypocrite? Compared to Kim Kardashian ? Hard to know which of those slams is more brutal. No comment yet from LG. [Photo: WENN.com]
