How Your Magazine-Movie Sausage is Made

Magazine editors are increasingly looking to place their stories at studios — for what it’s worth: “‘Hollywood is essentially in the business of not making movies,’ said Henry Finder, editorial director of The New Yorker . ‘They only make a movie when they run out of reasons not to make it. [… B]ut if I’m trying to get talent attached it might be easier for me to say, “Hey look, Brad Pitt, there’s this really cool story that was in Vanity Fair or Rolling Stone ” — it’s going to be based on that.'” Great! It beats Ouija . [ WWD via The Awl ]

Water for Elephants Movie Reviews: Not Positive

Does Robert Pattinson have another hit on his hands with Water for Elephants ? Perhaps at the box office, but not according to a majority of movie critics around the country. Take a look at various excerpts from a sampling of publications that aren’t exactly in love with the Twilight star’s new film, which opens on April 22… Even nonreaders of the book can figure out what happens next. It’s all in the telling. Sara Gruen provided grit and pungent detail. The movie settles for gloss. – Rolling Stone The script by Richard LaGravenese, who is well-versed in adapting popular fiction such as Bridges of Madison County, lacks the sparkle of his best work. – USA Today The love triangle takes a familiar shape and the dialogue tends toward the banal. Rarely has running away to join the circus looked so dull. – Boxoffice Magazine The problem isn’t just miscasting or the cheesiness of the material. It’s Pattinson’s increasingly predictable, dour persona. – Salon dot com Short-circuits the novel’s quirky charms and period atmosphere by its squeamish attitude toward gritty circus life and smothers the drama under James Newton Howard’s insufferable wall-to-wall musical soup. – The New York Times

Adele is finally getting her time in the spotlight over here in the U.S. where she was recently interviewed by both Rolling Stone and Entertainment Weekly . She tells Rolling Stone of her first time meeting Beyonce : “I was about to meet Beyonce and I had a full-blown anxiety attack. Then she popped in looking gorgeous, and said, ‘You’re amazing! When I listen to you I feel like I’m listening to God.’ Can you believe she said that?” She also gave Entertainment Weekly a list of the top 8 songs on her iPod, naming Rihanna ‘s “What’s My Name” as one of them: “Over New Year’s and Christmas, I had time off and I went to all my friends’ parties singing it. Doing the dance moves, I was convinced I was Rihanna. She was possessing me with that song. I swear.” We love to see females respecting females! Adele Says Beyonce Helped Her Overcome Anxiety

By Gil Kaufman Adele Photo: Larry Busacca/ Getty Images While she was besting Britney Spears on the American album charts and helping to lead a new British invasion , U.K. soul pop diva Adele also landed the cover of the upcoming issue of Rolling Stone magazine. And though the cover marks yet another milestone of her rising fame, Adele isn’t immune to some of the same fears as the rest of us, say, stage fright. Despite her calm assurance in the studio and apparent ease at coping with her sudden success, the Grammy winner told the magazine that she still has nervous nights. “I’m scared of audiences,” she said. “One show in Amsterdam I was so nervous, I escaped out the fire exit. I’ve thrown up a couple of times. Once in Brussels, I projectile vomited on someone. I just gotta bear it. But I don’t like touring. I have anxiety attacks a lot.” And it’s not just audiences that freak her out, it’s other celebrities. But the singer revealed that she has drawn some strength from an unlikely source: Beyonc

Rihanna Opens Up About Chris Brown In Rolling Stone

‘We don’t have to talk ever again in my life,’ ‘S&M’ singer says. By Gil Kaufman Rihanna on the cover of Rolling Stone magazine Photo: Rolling Stone While her ex, Chris Brown , has made it clear he doesn’t want to talk about his assault on Rihanna, the “S&M” singer was more than willing to discuss her feelings about the 2009 incident in her first Rolling Stone cover interview. In the issue, which hits stands Friday, Rihanna delves into the difficult times she faced in the wake of the Grammy-eve attack by Brown, saying, “I put my guard up so hard … I didn’t want people to see me cry. I didn’t want people to feel bad for me. It was a very vulnerable time in my life, and I refused to let that be the image. I wanted them to see me as, ‘I’m fine, I’m tough.’ I put that up until it felt real.” Part of the defensive shield she put up around herself came down recently when Rihanna agreed to ease the restraining order against Brown , which prohibited him from being within 100 feet of her. “That’s my decision,” she said. “It doesn’t mean we’re gonna make up or even talk again. It just means I didn’t want to object to the judge.” Frankly, she admitted, after a brief post-assault attempt at reconciliation, she hasn’t heard from Brown in a long time and doesn’t plan on dialing him up anytime soon. “We don’t have to talk ever again in my life,” she said. “I just didn’t want to make it more difficult for him professionally. What he did was a personal thing — it had nothing to do with his career. Saying he has to be 100 feet away from me, he can’t perform at awards shows — that definitely made it difficult for him … But you can never please people. One minute, I’m being too hard, and the next minute, I’m a fool because I’m not being hard enough.” In addition to revealing her love of kinky bedroom play, which she paid homage to in her “S&M” video, Rihanna admitted she might be a bit of a masochist. “It’s not something I’m proud of, and it’s not something I noticed until recently,” she said. “I think it’s common for people who witness abuse in their household. They can never smell how beautiful a rose is unless they get pricked by a thorn.” The cover story is accompanied by a RS online photo gallery chronicling some of Rihanna’s boldest fashion choices, as well as quotes from pals such as Katy Perry, who said of her friend, “It’s disgusting how gorgeous she is … Anytime I introduce my friends to her, male or female, the ride back always consists of, ‘What, does she drink the blood of virgins?’ ” Though she’s been tied to a number of men over the past few years, Rihanna revealed that she’s not dating anyone at the moment and not even engaging in one of her favorite pastimes: sexting. In fact, she hasn’t been with anyone since breaking up with Dodgers star Matt Kemp in December. “You think you’re disappointed?” she said about the four-month gap in male companionship. “Try being in this body.” Sound off on this story in the comments below! Chris Brown’s Publicist Throws Up The Deuces;Terminates Relationship

View post:

Chris Brown’s publicist called it quits after the singer had a meltdown in his dressing room at ABC’s “Good Morning America,” which resulted in Brown smashing a window and leaving the studio with his shirt off. Sources tell the New York Post that the two decided to end their business relationship. Who could blame her for bailing? The public fallout to Brown’s latest faux pas, to put it lightly, certainly would be quite a lot for any publicist to handle. Maybe Brown should find out who’s representing Kanye West…. or better yet, Mel Gibson. RELATED: Chris Brown Gets It In At F.A.M.E.
