Bristol Palin and Dakota Meyer have called off their wedding, according to her mother, former Republican Vice Presidential nominee Sarah Palin. Sarah confirmed the sad news on her Facebook page Monday: “Bristol and Dakota couldn’t be more thankful for the love and support of family and friends over the past months while preparing for their wedding.” However, the ex-Alaska Governor said, “They have informed loved ones that unfortunately the announced celebration planned will not be held.” Bristol Palin and Dakota Meyer had been set to wed May 23. Sarah, who has yet to decide if she will join the list of 2016 presidential candidates , did not say if the wedding has been or would be rescheduled. Neither Bristol nor Sarah said if the couple had ended their engagement, or their relationship, as a result of calling off the nuptials next weekend. Bristol also posted a photo reading, “Trust in God’s timing. It’s better to wait a while and have things fall into place than to rush and have things fall apart.” That might indicate that things aren’t over just yet. Sarah Palin is probably very happy to say goodbye to 2014. The now-famous Palin family brawl that took place in September seemed to make headlines every few weeks, as new details emerged about the drunken throwdown that cemented Sarah’s place as the most Jerry Springer-ready former governor in US history. Unfortunately, Palin has chosen to start the year with a different kind of controversy by posting a photo of her youngest son Trig stepping on a freaking dog, dontcha know: “May 2015 see every stumbling block turned into a stepping stone on the path forward,” Palin wrote on her Facebook page, along with the photo on the right. “Trig just reminded me. He, determined to help wash dishes with an oblivious mama not acknowledging his signs for ‘up!’, found me and a lazy dog blocking his way. He made his stepping stone.” Trig suffers from Down Syndrome, and Palin was obviously proud of his ingenuity, but as a number of Facebook users have pointed out, the image of a 6-year-old standing on top of a dog is more distressing than cute. “Poor dog,” wrote one commenter. “And how exactly is the dog supposed to get up with a seventy or more pound kid on his spine?” Others went so far as to accuse Palin of animal abuse for not only allowing Trig to step on the dog, but posting photos of the incident online. Obviously, it’s not exactly Michael Vick-level animal cruelty on display here, but one would expect a woman who spent several decades in the political arena to be a little more discerning with regard to her social media pics.
