I mean, of all the things bringing down that Oscar intro, Twitter jumped on this ? “‘I am 100 percent certain that my father is smiling. Billy previously played my father when he was alive, and my father gave Billy his full blessing,’ she continues, noting that Saturday Night Live gave the imitation ‘legendary status.’ [… Tracey] Davis, now 50, does however take issue with using the word ‘blackface,’ attributing the term born in the 1800s to describe white actors in makeup playing black characters, to early film stars such as Al Jolson, not Crystal, per se.” [ THR ]
Sandler is ‘off the rails and cursing every other word’ in new red-band trailer, co-star Andy Samberg teases. By Josh Wigler Adam Sandler in “That’s My Boy” Photo: Columbia Pictures Most movies about long-lost fathers reconnecting with their estranged sons don’t include overweight strippers launching fruit from their you-know-wheres. Then again, most of these movies are not “That’s My Boy,” the new comedy from Adam Sandler and Andy Samberg hitting theaters in June. MTV News has your exclusive first look at the NSFW red-band trailer for “That’s My Boy,” and if there’s one major takeaway, it’s this: There is no sign of the family-friendly, PG-safe Adam Sandler in sight. “It’s a hard R, which is extremely exciting, just in the fact that I don’t know that Sandler has ever done a hard R before, not with Happy Madison,” Samberg told MTV News in an exclusive interview. “The cut that I saw, which I loved, is what I thought the movie was going to be: the Happy Madison sensibility with a much edgier R-rating.” Indeed, we’d say that ending the trailer with a wedding dress covered in vomit and other bodily fluids fits the bill Samberg’s talking about. And if the Lonely Island frontman can be taken at his word, we still haven’t seen anything yet. “Sandler was having a lot of fun, doing stuff he hasn’t done since, really, his early albums, which is when I first became obsessed with him,” the “Saturday Night Live” performer said. “It’s certainly classic Sandler. He’s doing a Boston accent the whole movie; he’s off the rails, cursing every other word. We were dying the whole time we were shooting.” Part of the reason Samberg’s so excited to have been a part of “That’s My Boy” is his longtime status as a Sandler fan. “I’ve been joking that I’ve been carrying around this face my entire life, basically leading up to this moment where somebody says, ‘Hey, there’s this movie where someone has to play Adam Sandler’s kid, but he’s closer in age to Sandler than a normal kid would be,’ ” he laughed. “As soon as I read the script, I knew I wanted to do it. It sat for a while, but right around last fall, I heard that they were maybe thinking of doing it again. I told Sandler I’d love to do it, and he said, ‘We’ll see if we do it!’ And we did it! It was the happiest call.” “That’s My Boy” hits theaters June 15. For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com .
Lindsay Lohan is back in New York. She has a busy week of rehearsals for her appearance on Saturday Night Live and she will also do an interview this week on The Today Show.
Jessica Biel debuted her engagement ring from Justin Timberlake Saturday. We don’t have photos to prove it, as the notoriously private couple would never flaunt such a thing (they’re the anti-Kardashians). But it happened . The actress, 29, was seen getting cozy with her man, 31, at a Saturday Night Live after-party, the first time Biel went out in public with her sparkler. It was a rare public display of affection for a couple who doesn’t often step out together and who didn’t even announce their own engagement . They usually don’t even attend premieres of the other’s films together, so that the person starring gets the full spotlight for their work each time. This time, though, Biel, 29, and Timberlake, 31, “were very lovey all night and kissed a few times,” a guest at the Ristorante Asellina party says. The couple, who started dating in 2007, celebrated Timberlake’s appearance on SNL as Grammy-winning folk sensation Bon Iver with other guests. Evan Rachel Wood, Sports Illustrated cover girl Kate Upton , David Alan Grier, Seth Meyers, Chloe Sevigny, Natasha Lyonne, Andy Samberg, Jason Sudeikis, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Kenan Thompson and Maya Rudolph were all on hand. Also spending time with them: former SNL star Amy Poehler and current cast mate Kristen Wiig, who “loved the ring and chatted [Biel] up about it.” Justin and Jessica are currently trailing Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart in our favorite couples tournament matchup . Bigger Than the Sound takes a look back at 21 ‘s rather remarkable ride on the one-year anniversary of its release in the U.S. By James Montgomery Adele in her “Someone Like You” video Photo: Columbia Back in olde tymes, if something was a hallmark of consistency and dependability, it was proclaimed to be “so reliable you could set your watch to it.” This was high praise, and not just because watches were, like, the iPhones of their day (minus “Angry Birds,” of course). No, there was a time when reliability was actually celebrated in this country, and everything unerring, unchanging or uninterrupted — from Studebakers to Johnny Unitas’ haircut — was thusly awarded watch-setting status. Not surprisingly, that’s not exactly how things work anymore. Although, one could make the argument that Adele is doing her best to bring reliability off the back burner (back burners were also fairly common back then, both as a heating source and a simmering surface). Exactly one year ago today , she released her blockbuster 21 album in the U.S., and in the 52 weeks since , it’s not only broken records, won an armload of Grammys and singlehandedly revitalized the record industry, it’s also become the most dependable thing since Johnny U’s flattop. To wit, 21 has spent a staggering 40 percent of the past year atop the Billboard albums chart, has never been lower than #7, and has held steady in the top three since December. It not only survived challenges from Lady Gaga, Britney Spears, Beyonc
MTV News’ resident Lohan defender explains how returning to ‘Saturday Night Live’ may be the first step in her career comeback. By John Mitchell Lindsay Lohan Photo: Evan Agostini/Getty Images I’ve long been a defender of Linsday Lohan . I root for her success and am eternally hopeful — and thus often disappointed — that she will get it together. When people slam her, mock her long, long list of troubles , I can always be called upon to email them a link to Robert Downey Jr.’s biography, which has many parallels to Lohan’s but differs because it also contains the phrase “.357-caliber Magnum handgun.” Downey’s list of troubles easily eclipses Lohan’s (at this point, anyway), but he managed to fully recover and go on to become one of the biggest stars on the planet, starring in enormous box-office hits like “Iron Man” and “Sherlock Holmes” and earning Oscar nominations for films like “Tropic Thunder.” She’s not entirely out of the woods just yet, but she’s been earning “glowing” reports on her probation progress and was recently announced as the host of “Saturday Night Live” on March 3. A series of good signs and the first truly positive news out of Camp Lohan in a long time. When word of Lohan’s hosting stint on “SNL” was announced, I was incredibly pleased. For many reasons, it seems like a smart move, and if she pulls it off, it could be the first step (of many necessary steps) toward a real career comeback. Here’s why:

Actress will return to ‘Saturday Night Live’ on March 3 with musical guest Jack White. By Jocelyn Vena Lindsay Lohan Photo: Getty Live from New York, it’s Lindsay Lohan! The embattled actress will host “Saturday Night Live” on March 3, the show has confirmed. This will be the fourth time she takes the “SNL” stage, where she’ll be joined by musical guest Jack White. In a statement to CNN, her rep said, “Lindsay is very much looking forward to hosting SNL and working with the incredible cast, crew and writers to put on a memorable show.” Her probation restrictions are lifted in March, just in time for her to host. Meanwhile sources tell TMZ that Lohan called up “SNL” head honcho, Lorne Michaels, asking if she could host an episode this season. After several conversations, Michaels and Lohan settled on the March date. The source adds that Lohan has always loved hosting the show and looks to Michaels as a father figure. Since Lohan first hosted “SNL” back in 2004 at the tender age of 17, the actress has been through quite a lot, including multiple court appearances and several jail stints. In the years since, she’s had a hard time reigniting her once-thriving movie career. Most recently she was attached to a Linda Lovelace biopic , but she eventually lost the role. She last hosted “SNL” in 2006. While Lohan has had a hard time booking movie gigs, she did make headlines when she appeared in Playboy in December . In the issue, the actress opened up about her public woes. “Looking back, I probably would have listened to and taken more advice from the people whom I admire and would have followed through with it more,” she said. “My stubbornness at 18 and 19 years old got in the way. During the past five years, I’ve learned that time flies faster than you think, and because you only live once, you have to learn from your mistakes, live your dreams and be accountable.” Will Lindsay Lohan make a good “SNL” host?
