Katy Perry Gets ‘SNL’ Advice From Russell Brand

‘I’ve only ever hosted, like, dinner parties and birthday parties,’ Perry jokes during rehearsals for this week’s ‘Saturday Night Live’ episode. By Jocelyn Vena Katy Perry on the set of “Saturday Night Live” Photo: MTV News NEW YORK — On Saturday when “Saturday Night Live” goes, well, live, Katy Perry will be the lady of the night. The pop singer is currently in rehearsals for her hosting gig , and despite some butterflies, she has in her corner someone who really understands the responsibilities of hosting helping her out from afar: her husband, comedian Russell Brand . “I’ve only ever hosted, like, dinner parties and birthday parties. This is a bit more than that,” she joked on set with MTV News. “It’s not as intimidating when you get here because it’s a bit smaller than it looks on TV, and I’m up for a challenge, for something new. I love to be challenged … I married Russell Brand.” Speaking of the devil, Brand hosted the show back in February and his wife has been reaching out to him for any and all advice he might be able to offer. “My husband, of course, every day I call him and I’m like ‘this happened’ and he’s like, ‘I know what that means and here’s the next play-by-play for tomorrow,’ so he’s gotten me really prepared for this week, thankfully.” He’s not the only past “SNL” host that Perry is looking to for guidance. She’s also obsessing over Melissa McCarthy’s October hosting appearance. “Well, I saw the Melissa McCarthy episode and I thought she did a great job,” she said. “She’s so fun to watch and she really brings it, so that’s what I was soaking in this week — Melissa McCarthy and all of her nuances.” This marks the second time this year that Perry has been on the show. She was the musical guest back in 2010, but still managed to show off just how funny she can be during a sketch in which she poked fun at some controversy regarding her ample bosom and a canceled “Sesame Street” appearance . “Well, you’re gonna see some Hello Kitty, some cockney accents, maybe, and some me flubbing my lines, probably laughing out loud at Kristen Wiig ’cause she’s amazing,” Perry teased of this week’s show, which will also include musical guest and past tourmate Robyn. “They’re all really amazing. I feel supercool to be able to be in the same breathing space as them.” Speaking of Wiig, Perry recalls one interesting encounter the two have already shared on set. “It’s a bit stalkerish ’cause last time I was here, I Twittered that I would like a lock of Kristen Wiig’s hair so that I can put it under my pillow every night,” she explained. “And she read it and she actually gave me a card with a lock of her hair with a tiny blue bow in it. … Ever since then, I’ve been obsessed.” Related Artists Katy Perry

Castle Kicks Off Our Top 50 TV Characters Of 2011

Ed Helms’ Andy Bernard and Louis C.K.’s Louie also make MTV News’ list, which will be unveiled all week. By MTV News staff Nathan Fillion as Richard Castle in “Castle” Photo: ABC As 2011 draws to a close, the MTV News team has been looking back on our favorite moments of the year in music and movies — and now, it’s time to turn our attention to another obsession of ours: television. The year brought us countless memorable TV turns from not just your favorite stars, but even some more obscure personalities you may not have heard about. To recognize those achievements, we’re happy to present MTV News’ Top 50 TV Characters of 2011! Our list kicks off with a healthy mix of adventurous animated characters, impossibly hilarious comedians, reality stars worth their weight in laughs and gasps, and smug (but heroic) leading men. 50. Finn (“Adventure Time”) At 26, I’m probably too old to be watching cartoons, but I can’t help but get transfixed and regress to an 8-year-old whenever Cartoon Network’s amazing series “Adventure Time” is on. Set 1,000 years from now in the Land of Ooo, “Adventure Time” follows Finn the Human (possibly the last of us) and his pal Jake the Dog. While Jake is his own ball of awesome and the Land of Ooo has a whole host of great characters, it’s Finn who comes in at #50 on our list. A 13-year-old boy, Finn is on a never-ending quest to discover how awesome the world is and to protect what is righteous by kicking evil’s butt. From his wholesome naivet

SNL Spoofs Herman Cain’s Exit From Presidential Race [VIDEO]

The rest is here:

Saturday Night Live didn’t waste any time poking fun at one-time Presidential candidate Herman Cain’s decision to end his bid for the GOP’s nomination. Cain announced that he was dropping out of the race after a woman named Ginger White alleged that she had a 13-year-long affair with Cain and several other women claimed that they were sexually harassed by the Georgia businessman. Cast member Kenan Thompson revisited his spot-on impersonation of Cain, joking that “I scheduled an appointment with my wife. We had a productive discussion while she glared at me listening to Mary J. Blige .” RELATED POSTS: SPOOF: Mike Tyson Finds His Inner Herman Cain [VIDEO]

“Technology Hump” The Perverted Fun From SNL [VIDEO]

Follow @iamgwoods We all never expect to see an iPad get it on with an Xbox 360 controller in a diorama hotel room, and with voice “acting” from Saturday Night Live. Saturday Night Live is known for some pretty off-beat humor, but this skit takes the cake. “We’re Going to Make Technology Hump” comes from last weekend’s show, hosted by Emma Stone. In it, Stone and Andy Samberg host a softcore tech porn TV show where they, literally, make technology hump. This skit has everything: Android devices, cheap porn music, digital cameras, curling irons and more. The skit has three bizarre scenes that mimic the style of cheesy softcore porn movies complete with lame dialogue and absurd plot lines. The video is pretty much safe for work, though anyone overhearing the video is going to have some questions. No nudity, just a whole lot of digital innuendo. It gives “unwrapping” a brand new meaning. The camera lens erection was expected, but pretty funny. Congratulations!!: Kenan Thompson And Bikini Banger Fiancee Christina Evangeline Jump The Broom In ATL!

These two didn’t waste any time! We reported last month that Kenan and Christina were engaged and this past weekend they made it official down in Atlanta. This time it was Kenan — not Kel — who said “I do, I do, I do, I do ooh!” Saturday Night Live’s Kenan Thompson married model Christine Evangeline on Friday, sources confirm to Us Weekly. The 33-year-old comedian said “I do” in the Arctic Room of the George Aquarium in Atlanta, and Nick Cannon even headed south to DJ and do some MCing! “[They’re] very happy. They’ve lived together as a couple and were excited to share the moments with close friends,” says a source. “She was thrilled and a beautiful bride.” The bride wore a chic silky white gown with a long trail for the ceremony, then changed into a ruffled, strapless white dress for the festivities after. “Being in the rented out aquarium made the night even more magical,” a source tells Us. “Christina loved the dolphins.” Before Thompson joined the cast of Saturday Night Live in 2003, he was a fan favorite on Nickelodeon’s sketch comedy show All That from 1994-1999. He and costar Kel Mitchell concurrently appeared in a spinoff, the aptly titled Kenan & Kel, from 1996-2000. Kenan, you are one lucky son-of-a-beyotch. Peace and blessings to you and your new wife…. Source We have a few pictures from the wedding as well as pics of Christine to admire from afar, being that she’s happily married now…

Kim Kardashian Gets Post-Split ‘Support’ From La La Anthony

Fellow NBA wife and reality TV star tells MTV News she’ll be there for Kim through ‘every part of it.’ By Jocelyn Vena Kim Kardashian Photo: Marianna Massey/ WireImage After Kim Kardashian announced her headline-making split from Kris Humphries , it’s her friends and family who are helping her get through a tough time. One of those pals, fellow reality star and basketball wife La La Anthony, told MTV News she’s just trying to be a supportive friend. “Of course, I was surprised by the news,” Anthony told us Monday night on the red carpet of the Glamour Women of the Year event in New York City. “Anytime someone gets a divorce, it’s a difficult time. All I can do is be her friend and support her through every part of it, and that’s what I’m doing.” It’s been more than a week since Kim announced the breakup but she continues to make news. Over the weekend, the E! star not only visited her ex in Minnesota, but “Saturday Night Live” poked fun at the couple’s divorce news. In a sketch called “Kim’s Fairytale Divorce,” the Saturday night staple imagined what a special about the split would look like, including an over-the-top divorce preceding with Kim handing off dough to Humphries as he grunts. The sketch left Kim’s sisters LOLing on Twitter. “Ha! I just saw the SNL skit they did and I could not stop laughing…. LOL,” Khlo

‘SNL,’ Andy Samberg Sued By Producers Over ‘Like A Boss’

St. Louis production duo claim they wrote music for ‘Saturday Night Live’ skits ‘Shy Ronnie’ and ‘Like a Boss.’ By Gil Kaufman Andy Samberg Photo: Getty Images A St. Louis production duo who claim they created the tracks that became the “Saturday Night Live” digital shorts “Like a Boss” and ” Shy Ronnie ” have filed a lawsuit against the show and cast member Andy Samberg claiming they haven’t been properly paid for their work. StarStrukk Production members Aleric “Rick tha Rular” Banks and Monique “Foxx StarStrukk” Hines filed a lawsuit in New York Federal court last week against NBC Universal, Samberg, The Lonely Island, and Universal Republic Records for willful copyright infringement and unjust enrichment. According to The Hollywood Reporter the suit alleges that Samberg’s band, The Lonely Island, recorded the tracks submitted by the duo “verbatim,” and then added lyrics on top. Samberg performed “Like a Boss” with Seth Rogen on “SNL” on April 4, 2009 and in December of that year he got together with Rihanna for the Emmy-nominated “Shy Ronnie.” The pair told a local paper that they hooked up with Samberg through a mutual connection in California in 2008, when they submitted tracks to Lonely Island for the band’s debut album. “Like a Boss” was featured on the trio’s 2009 disc Incredibad , while “Shy Ronnie 2: Ronnie & Clyde” was featured in this year’s Turtleneck & Chain . In August 2010, StarStrukk told a local paper that they were excited about being nominated for an Emmy for the “Shy Ronnie” skit, which they said featured a beat they tried, unsuccessfully, to sell to local acts like City Spud and Yung Ro as well as Young Jeezy. But after not getting the credit they felt they deserved or being paid appropriately, they filed suit. Banks claims he signed a form sent by the Universal Music Group in which he stated that he was a 50 percent owner of the copyright on “Like a Boss” as the writer and producer of the tune. According to the suit, he received a response letter that only gave him 25 percent interest in the tune. But, so far, Banks says he hasn’t gotten any producer royalties or profits from the songs. A spokesperson for NBCU could not be reached for comment at press time.

Lil Wayne Says Nothing Can ‘Touch’ Drake’s Take Care

‘That kid is on another planet,’ Young Money boss says of Drake’s new record. By Rob Markman Lil Wayne and Drake Photo: Kevin Winter/ Getty Images There are few albums more highly anticipated than Drake ‘s upcoming Take Care , but fans aren’t the only ones eagerly awaiting a listen. Drizzy’s Young Money boss Lil Wayne has yet to hear the November 15 LP in its entirety, but he’s impressed with what he has heard so far. “I actually haven’t got a chance to listen to all of it, but I heard a few songs,” Wayne told MTV News while on the set for Birdman’s “Y.U. Mad” video in Miami. Weezy has never been shy with his “Best Rapper Alive” boasts, but when it comes to Drake and his new album , he plays second fiddle. “I can tell, you know, I don’t know nothing else out there that can touch it, including my stuff. That kid is on another planet,” he said. Part of what impresses the Young Money CEO is the Toronto MC’s knack for making relatable music. In fact, Drake told MTV News that his latest single with Nicki Minaj, “Make Me Proud,” which they performed together last weekend on “Saturday Night Live,” was conceptualized after a regular, everyday conversation. “Whenever I make songs surrounding women, I always try to find refreshing stances to take as opposed to just like, “Oh, you’re sexy” or “Oh, I want you.” The song, it really came up in passing conversation, just being like, “I’m proud of you,” ” Drake said of the T-Minus-produced song. It is that approach that Birdman Jr. appreciates and what he feels will ultimately drive Take Care . “To me, I call him a conversational artist, meaning he can make a hit song out of a regular conversation that you would love to have with any woman or anybody, and I think that is his expertise. The songs I heard, he just capitalized on that like crazy.” Related Videos MTV News Extended Play: Drake Related Artists Drake Lil Wayne

Drake Takes Pride In Nicki Minaj On ‘Make Me Proud’

‘I’m just proud of you, whether it’s Nicki or any girl that I’ve ever known,’ Drake tells MTV News of new single, which he plans to perform on ‘SNL.’ By Rob Markman Drake Photo: Christina Beale / MTV News Drake loves Nicki Minaj and has even said he’d marry her. While their relationship is still in will-they-or-won’t-they territory, one thing’s for sure: Drizzy is proud of his Young Money labelmate. On “Make Me Proud,” the latest single from his upcoming album Take Care, the OVO general expresses his appreciation for the Harajuku Barbie and every female who is out there accomplishing her goals. “Whenever I make songs surrounding women, I always try to find refreshing stances to take as opposed to just like, “Oh, you’re sexy” or “Oh, I want you.” The song, it really came up in passing conversation, just being like, “I’m proud of you,” ” Drake told MTV News of the T-Minus-produced song that he plans to perform October 15 when he appears as the musical guest on “Saturday Night Live.” “Not even necessarily that a woman has to go achieve grandiose things to be proud; it’s just that I’m proud of you for trying. It’s hard to be a woman out here these days, especially to be pretty and especially to be smart and want something for yourself,” he said. “So I’m just proud of you whether it’s Nicki or any girl that I’ve ever known in my life that’s doing well for herself.” The Young Money heartthrob has never had a problem expressing his emotions when it comes to the opposite sex. On “Best I Ever Had,” he unapologetically toasts his sweetheart; on “Fireworks,” he opens up about his fling with pop&B princess Rihanna; and on “Marvins Room,” he drunk-dials his ex. Still, there is something about this new single that makes Drake even more confident. “It’s a dope thing to say, like, ‘Go out there and make me proud,’ ” he explained. “And you don’t feel uncomfortable as a man saying it.” What other song do you hope Drake performs on “SNL”?
