‘Breaking Dawn’ At Comic-Con: Top Five Moments

‘Ew, get that thing off me! Get me a real baby!’ Kristen Stewart remembers of the animatronic baby used as Bella and Edward’s daughter. By Kara Warner Taylor Lautner, Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart at 2011 Comic-Con Photo: WireImage SAN DIEGO — After taking last year off from San Diego Comic-Con , the cast of the “Twilight Saga” returned to the famed pop-culture extravaganza in a very big way. There was new “Breaking Dawn” footage screened before a crowd of 6,000, food gifts presented to fans via the castmembers themselves and talk of the awkwardness involved in filming sex scenes. It was a lot to take in. Here is our list of the top five “Twilight”-themed moments witnessed during SDCC 2011: Castmembers Treat Fans to Breakfast “Twilight” fans are known for their extreme loyalty and passion for the film franchise and its stars. As such, every time the cast has made the trek to San Diego for an appearance, thousands of fans line up outside the Con’s famous Hall H — many of whom camp out for days ahead of time. This year, castmembers Ashley Greene, Nikki Reed, Elizabeth Reaser, Booboo Stewart and Julia Jones surprised a bunch of lucky fans with an early-morning wake-up call that included a gift of muffins and fruit. Wedding Scene Was Filmed “Secret-Service Style” As much as they can, the “Breaking Dawn” cast and crew try to keep spoilers and set photos from being snapped and released on the Internet. But nothing has been as secretive and protected as Bella’s wedding dress. Kristen Stewart explained the great lengths that were taken during filming. “The wedding was secret-service style. It was insane. The crew was completely inconvenienced and grumbling around set,” she said at the “Breaking Dawn” press conference at San Diego Comic-Con. Stewart didn’t let their efforts go unnoticed. “You don’t understand what this means to us,” she told the security team. “If this dress gets on the Internet, I’ll die.” Bella and Edward’s Baby Terrified Its Onscreen Parents There has been much ado about the “Rosemary’s Baby”-esque birthing scene Stephenie Meyer wrote in “Breaking Dawn.” Specifically, the end of that scene when Bella brings a half-human, half-vampire baby into the world. According to the scene’s key participants, Stewart and Robert Pattinson, what should have been warm and fuzzy was actually horrifying. “We had an animatronic baby, the scene where [Bella] had to be introduced to the baby for the first time,” Pattinson explained during Thursday’s press conference. Stewart explained that although the scene is one of her favorites in the book, the fact that the baby bore more of a resemblance to Chuckie from “Child’s Play” than a real newborn made the scene a bit awkward. “[The puppeteer] is sweating right below my eyeline, trying to [reach] up to get the [animatronic baby’s] hand up to touch your face,” Stewart recalled. “And then it sticks to your hair and pulls a little bit and you’re like, ‘Ew, get that thing off me! Get me a real baby, this is ridiculous!’ ” she said. “And it had hair!” “If you’ve ever seen a baby with a wig on …,” Pattinson offered. “[It] looked like a little troll on a stick.” Seven-Minute Clip Teases “Honeymoon” Scene Of all the scenes fans are most looking forward to seeing in “Breaking Dawn,” the honeymoon scene is at the top of the list. And the lucky 6,000 fans who attended the film’s panel Thursday were treated to a steamy sneak peek, along with about seven minutes of new footage from the film. Pattinson told us the key to getting around the awkwardness involved in filming that scene was to go for it. “You just get lubed up and jump right into it!” RPattz joked. “You have to have some tantric breathing and stuff.” Pattinson Likens Himself to Processed Meat Speaking of brilliant Pattinson quotes, one of our favorites occurred when the heartthrob had to address appearing shirtless on camera. “The thing I was most nervous about was taking my shirt off,” Pattinson said of which scenes he was most anxious about. “I don’t want to get anyone’s hopes up,” Pattinson self-deprecatingly added, referring to what fans will see of his torso in the film and preview footage. “I look like an inflatable frankfurter in some of those [scenes].” Check out everything we’ve got on “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1” and “Part 2.” For young Hollywood news, fashion and “Twilight” updates around the clock, visit HollywoodCrush.MTV.com . Britney Spears’ ‘I Wanna Go’ Director Breaks Down Cheeky Clip

Chris Marrs Piliero explains the video’s ‘Half Baked’ and ‘Terminator’ homages, but what about those elusive seashells? By Kara Warner Britney Spears in her “I Wanna Go” music video Photo: Jive Britney Spears’ video for “I Wanna Go” — a dream-sequence-y, pop-culture-reference-packed tongue-in-cheek attack on the paparazzi — is so fun, it’s quickly becoming one of our favorites. And because we can’t get enough of it, MTV News sought out the vid’s creative mastermind, director Chris Marrs Piliero (who also directed Ke$ha’s “Blow”), to explain it to us, frame by frame. “This opening scene poked fun at the ridiculous rumors that surround Britney,” Piliero said of the clip’s opening press conference, during which Britney tells off a room of reporters. “That is our homage to ‘Half Baked.’ I was really stoked that we were able to include that little parody homage in the video and that Guillermo Diaz, who is the guy [in the scene] giving the thumbs up, is from the movie.” After strutting out of the press conference and squeezing the butt of an autograph-seeking fan (played by one of her dancers), Spears strolls down the street, passing by a baby in a stroller who whistles at her. “We were actually going to have three babies,” Piliero revealed. “But the other two were just crying and crying. and I was like ‘F— it, get ’em outta there,’ and the one baby, he ruled and was super cute, so we went with him.” Spears’ next saucy move is to flash a bunch of guys on the street: a young boy, his dad, a male driver getting a ticket and the cop writing it. “That little kid was awesome,” Piliero said of the young redheaded boy. “If you look closely, he’s actually squeezing his juice box all over this shirt. The cop is another one of Britney’s dancers. You might recognize him from the ‘Hold It Against Me’ video, he had blue hair.” Next up, Spears encounters a paparazzo on the street and grabs his camera and throws it to the ground. “That was a very genuine performance from Britney,” Piliero said of the scene. “I felt like she was letting out her inner emotion toward paparazzi. It was also really cold. I think she just went for it.” Cut to Spears on top of a taxi, microphone in hand with a long cord, which she uses to take out the various photographers who have surrounded her. “A lot of people think this was inspired by ‘Kill Bill,’ because I’m a huge Quentin Tarantino fan. I would totally own up to that if it was true,” he admitted. “But I actually intended for her to always having her performance with the microphone [throughout the video] for her performance setup, so I thought that was a good way to tie it all together and I didn’t want to give her a real weapon.” But Piliero was making an intentional pop-culture reference with the wording on the movie theater marquee in the background of the scene that reads “Crossroads 2: Cross Harder.” “I’ve always thought that ‘Die Hard 2: Die Harder’ is one of the most ridiculously awesome titles for a sequel ,” he said. “And I needed to put something in the marquee, and I thought it would be a really fun Easter egg for fans.” Now something odd happens with the paparazzi who’ve been hit by Spears’ microphone weapon — they are revealed to be robots or androids. “I love pop culture and this whole video is kind of a dream sequence,” Piliero said. “I think it’s natural to have fantasies and dreams with stuff inspired by pop culture, so that’s why the robot guys kind of have a ‘Terminator’-ish feel.” Before the “Terminator” ‘bots can move in on Spears, Diaz drives up in a sports car and whisks her away, where he celebrates by pouring a carton of milk all over himself. “Guillermo kills it in the scene with the milk, he’s hilarious,” Piliero enthused. “And I love Britney’s reaction there; both her reactions where she’s laughing are so good. A lot of people ask about the milk and what the deal with it is, a lot of people have theories too, I don’t need to say what the point is, because I love hearing what people say, so I’ll leave it at that. Same goes with the seashells too.” Cut to the final scene, where we realize that it was all a dream. Spears is at the press conference, shaken out of a daze when Guillermo steps in and tells the reporters, “No more questions,” then hands Spears a handful of those seashells that Piliero won’t explain. He looks back at the camera at the last moment and we see his eyes are robot red, an obvious nod to Michael Jackson’s zombie-green eyes in the last shot of “Thriller.” ” ‘Thriller is one of my favorite music videos ever,” Piliero said. “I remember watching it when I was five, that was what inspired me to become a music video director so I wanted to pay homage to it.” What do you think the milk and the seashells signify in “I Wanna Go”? Share your theories in the comments below. ‘Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows’ Trailer: An Expert Analysis

MTV News breaks down the final film’s final trailer. By Eric Ditzian and Josh Wigler Daniel Radcliffe in the “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2” trailer Photo: Warner Bros. The final “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2” trailer has arrived, and after we wiped a stray tear from our eye, we dove into a bit of expert commentary — because the new footage is nothing short of epic! Hit play on the embedded video as we walk through some of the key moments in the trailer, then read on for a deeper exploration of the last “Potter” trailer before “Deathly Hallows, Part 2” hits theaters July 15. Watch Out, Mrs. Potter Right off the bat, we greet Harry’s mom, Lily Potter, just moments before she and her husband are going to die by Voldemort’s hand. This is a very critical scene in “Potter” mythology. We’ve seen flashbacks and memories of Harry’s childhood before, but it does seem “Part 2” is going to give us a full showing of what happened to Harry as very young boy. It’s sure to be a grisly moment. It’s a difficult scene to read, and it’s likely to be even more taxing to watch. This brief glimpse of Lily hints the new movie will not shy away from J.K. Rowling’s most grueling material. Everything has led to this. Quidditch Is No More There have been so many gargantuan action set pieces across the franchise, but this scene of the Quidditch field burning to the ground gives us a very clear picture of where the series is headed: from wizards and witches flying around on broomsticks to that venue for the game being destroyed. It’s all a result of the Battle of Hogwarts, the grand and terrifying throw-down near the film’s conclusion. Snape, You Rascal What to think about Severus Snape? He’s been a good guy and a Dumbledore-killing villain. In this scene, he most certainly is not in everyone’s good graces. Harry’s got a lot of anger to direct at Snape, seeing as he killed the boy wizard’s mentor. Here he finally gets to confront Snape — the first time since “Half-Blood Prince” that these two have come face to face. But give Snape some time. Without spoiling anything for those who have not read the book, Snape has some interesting things to share and a new side of himself to show off. Welcome Back, Gary This is one of the single most important scenes in the entire series. Harry is about to go off into the forest for a battle with Voldemort, and he’s greeted by the ghosts of pals’ past, thanks to the powers of the Resurrection Stone. One of them is Gary Oldman’s Sirius Black. Daniel Radcliffe has told MTV News on many occasions that this scene was the one he was dreading most. Did he have the chops to pull it off? But when it came time to shoot the scene, the actor behind Harry was relieved to have a legend like Oldman supporting him. It All Ends, Epically Overall, it’s hard not to note how epic the trailer is. You have warriors jumping and landing on one knee — that most badass of acrobatic big-screen landings. You have thousands of spells, like arrows out of “Braveheart,” soaring toward an embattled castle. You have dragons breathing fire and loads of people dying. It’s amazing to see how much is being revealed in the trailer. Yet at the same time, so much is still to come. There’s so much in store that it would be impossible to spoil everything. If you think this trailer is too filled with spoilers, you’re wrong! There’s a lot more that could be shown. And that’s proof the final film has absolutely everything you could want as a “Potter” fan. Who is the best “Harry Potter” character of all time? The “Harry Potter” World Cup will finally find out! Voting begins Monday over on the MTV Movies Blog , but you can get the debate started now on Twitter with the hashtag #mtvpottercup. Check out everything we’ve got on “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com .

By Christina Garibaldi Christina Grimmie Photo: MTV News YouTube sensation Christina Grimmie is having a big summer so far. The self-proclaimed “rocker chick” with the dance-pop sound just dropped her debut EP, Find Me , on Tuesday, and it’s currently #3 on the iTunes charts. Her close pal Selena Gomez is back on her feet after a brief hospital scare. And she is scheduled to hit the road next month with Selena Gomez & The Scene and All Star Weekend. The up-and-coming pop star doesn’t just credit her managers (Gomez’s parents), Mandy and Brian Teefey, for her newfound fame. She also knows she owes a lot of her success to her YouTube channel . Grimmie’s videos have been viewed more than 142 million times by fans eager to see the 17-year-old’s reworked covers of current pop songs. “It started out for fun,” Grimmie said about posting videos. “Even though singing is what I want to do, I started out like, ‘Hey, lets try this out’ kind of thing, and then it just grew into something bigger, and that’s why I’m here.” Of course, YouTube has also been a career starting point for a few other newbies on the scene, like Justin Bieber and divisive singer Rebecca Black, who gained notoriety with her infectious “Friday.” How does Grimmie feel about being compared to Black? “Comparisons are comparisons, and they’re gonna happen.” Grimmie said. “If you want to compare me to Rebecca Black, go ahead. I’m sure she’s a great girl. I don’t know her, but you know comparisons happen. … They can compare me to whoever … Batman! That would be great.” And, since starting out, she’s also gotten a super-flattering comparison. “I’ve gotten compared to Christina Aguilera,” she laughed, “which feels good, because I love her so much!”

Selena Gomez Tells Fans She’s Doing ‘Much Better’

Teen star performed a mini-show with her band the Scene on Monday, after a brief hospitalization. By Kara Warner Selena Gomez performs at Santa Monica Place on June 13 Photo: Jean Baptiste Lacroix/ WireImage Selena Gomez was back onstage and appeared to be in much better health on Monday (June 13). The Disney star spent the weekend recovering after being hospitalized last Thursday in Los Angeles for a combination of food poisoning and exhaustion. The 18-year-old singer/actress took the stage for a performance at the Santa Monica Place mall Monday afternoon, wearing a flowing, white blouse over a white tank top, black shorts, and black strappy heels. Gomez and her band, the Scene, played two of her hit songs, “Who Says” and “A Year Without Rain,” to cheers from the crowd. Gomez thanked her fans profusely for coming out to see her and for their support, especially in the last few days. She also apologized for missing her original appearance, which had been scheduled for this past Friday. “I want to thank you so much for coming. If you guys came on Friday, I’m so sorry that I couldn’t be here,” she said before the band struck up the first few notes of “Who Says.” “I love you guys very much.” Although Gomez didn’t do any crazy dance movies or flips, she performed each song with plenty of energy. Her voice sounded strong and steady. At the end of the second song, the teen star answered a few questions from fans in the audience, mostly pegged to her experience filming the upcoming movie “Monte Carlo,” around which the event was organized. Gomez did take a brief moment to assure her fans (and the throng of reporters also gathered) that she’s feeling just fine. “I’m feeling much better, thank you,” she said.
