This poor lil Becky got murked thinkin’ the paper chase was sweet. A beautiful Texas teenager shot to death last month was no innocent victim but a criminal killed in a robbery gone wrong, police now say. Claudia Hidic, 17, was found dead near the back door of a man’s home in the Tanglewood neighborhood of Fort Worth on June 28, her body face down, according to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. The back door had also been kicked in. Her death, of a gunshot wound to the head, was ruled a homicide. But while friends took to Facebook to mourn the loss of the stunning young woman, who would have been a senior at Trinity High School this fall, police revealed Hidic had put herself in the line of fire by organizing a robbery that ended in gunshots. A source close to the investigation told the Star-Telegram that Hidic was the mastermind behind the theft, directing accomplices Curtis Fortenberry and Terrance Crumley, both 21, to rob a location she specifically chose. The source, who spoke to the paper on condition of anonymity, said Hidic had been to the home before, where the threesome returned, at least one of them armed. They reportedly entered the house through the back door, where between five and six people were home. A neighbor told the paper he saw four women running from the scene after gunfire erupted. The man who found her body outside of his house told police he did know who Hidic was. By July 1, a police spokeswoman told the Star-Telegram the homeowner had stopped talking to investigators, though he was not a “person of interest in the case.” In a press release to local media outlets, police confirmed Hidic had been inside the home prior to the robbery, and said she and the two men “engaged in criminal activity after planning and coordinating a robbery … against the occupants inside,” KCEN-TV reported. Both Fortenberry and Crumley are now in police custody and have been charged with felony murder. They are being held on $100,000 bond. With a last name like Hidic, we’re guessing she wasn’t a straight Becky, but still — clearly she had no business living that thuglife if everybody is all surprised she was mixed up in this isht. SMH. Resiliency Tested In Black Men To overcome Hardships Black men, especially those living in low-income, urban areas, face many societal stressors, including racial discrimination, incarceration and poverty. In addition, these men have poorer health outcomes. Now, a University of Missouri faculty member has studied these men’s efforts to negotiate social environments that are not designed to help them attain good health and success. “Too often, researchers focus on Black men’s weaknesses rather than their strengths,” said Michelle Teti, assistant professor of health sciences in the MU School of Health Professions. “By understanding what’s working, we can reinforce those positive behaviors and help men make healthier choices.” The study explored resilience–how individuals demonstrate positive mental health regardless of stress and adversity–among low-income Black men living in urban areas. Through interviews, the researchers learned about societal stressors in the men’s lives, including racism, incarceration, unemployment and surviving rough neighborhoods. Despite these hardships, many research participants had found ways to overcome their adversities through five primary forms of resilience: perseverance, commitment to learn from hardships, reflecting and refocusing to address difficulties, creating supportive environments and obtaining support from religion and spirituality. “Resilience is not a psychological trait that you either are born with or not; resilience can be taught and nurtured,” said Teti’s co-author and principal investigator of the study, Lisa Bowleg, an associate professor in the School of Public Health at Drexel University in Philadelphia. “Accordingly, our findings suggest we can use resilience strategies used by men in our study to teach other low-income Black men how to better protect themselves and their sexual partners from risk despite some harsh social-structural realities.” Teti and Bowleg say community members and government officials should do more to prepare Black men for success rather than failure and, in particular, to teach them protective behaviors against HIV. “It is admirable that these men are resilient in the face of such severe challenges; however, the men’s efforts only can be translated into success if they are supported by social environments and policies that change the odds against them,” Teti said. “Low-income, Black, urban men desperately need jobs; they need quality educations; they need policies designed to keep them out of prisons. They need opportunities to make living wages for themselves and their families; they need safer neighborhoods,” Bowleg said. “The most disconcerting aspects of our research on resilience were the narratives of men who were doggedly trying to be resilient in the face of seemingly insurmountable social-structural obstacles.” Discuss… Source
No one can accuse the Greece (N.Y.) Central School District of looking the other way when it comes to its disciplinary response to students bullying others. Britney Spears bores me. The only thing good about her was back when she was 17 and doing that School Girl fetish shit, and even then I wasn’t sold on her, it wasn’t until the major breakdowns and the fat years that I had confidence she had anything of substance to offer the world…from getting knocked up by a ghetto white dude who pretended to be black….to shaving her head….and flashing her mom vagina to the paparazzi…she had so much potential…then she got locked down, medicated and boring…and showing some cleavage for some show she’s judging just doesn’t inspire…if anything…it just reminds me of what we’ve lost here…. My name is Madison, I’m from New Jersey, and this is My Bieber Experience. I’ve seen Justin live 3 times but that’s it, twice in 2009, and once in 2010 on the My World Tour. I met Justin for the first time on Tuesday, June 19, 2012 around 3 pm at his Believe CD signing in New York. I’ve been a belieber since 2009 so this day meant a lot to me. I got to New York around 6:30am, waited in a line for the wristbands, then got in the actual line to meet him. The last time I had slept was around 1pm the day BEFORE. I was running on 24 hours without sleep, I was exhausted, but it’s okay, for Justin I’ll do anything. Around 2pm everyone was so excited because that’s when the signing started. I was probably around the 70 th person in line, thank goodness, because that line seemed like it wrapped around all of New York City! They let the first 50 people in around 2:15. It wasn’t until around 3pm I got to go in. During the wait, Channel 5 news talked to us and made us sing, it was fun but nerve-wracking. I just wanted to go in. I actually had started crying before I even went inside. I was really nervous, too. At one point, I thought I was going to throw up because my stomach hurt and I felt dizzy. The thought of meeting Justin scared me, I don’t know why. Finally it was my turn to go inside. My heart pounded so much, and I had to count to keep myself from crying. When I walked inside, it was kind of an aisle leading toward Justin. I saw his perf hair first then his flawless face and I started crying, it was unbelievable. My mom and friend’s mom were like, “Stop, you need to calm down and stop crying so you’ll be able to talk to him.” I calmed down because I didn’t want to waste the few seconds I got with him. I took a few pictures. I saw Kenny and screamed his name a few times but he didn’t turn my way. The line moved very quickly. We got closer to the table and the lady said no videos, put everything like cellphones and cameras away. I put my iPod in the top of my shirt and walk by with it recording. My plan worked out great! I walked up to the table and I blurted out, “I’ve been waiting 3 years to meet you, I love you.” Justin was like, “3 years?” And I was like, “Yes” and so he was like “It’s a pleasure to meet you finally. ” I was just so anxious that I rudely cut Justin off OMG sorry Justin, but I said “Can I have a hug like?” (Because I’ve dreamed of what hugging him feels like for so long, I need to feel his hug so I asked) and he was like, “Yes” so he went to reach over to hug me and I went to reach over to hug him. The rude lady was like, “NO NO NO NO.” She started like pulling me away because I started to get too close to the Bieber. I was barely close though, so him being the best idol in the world, grabbed onto my hand (you can see in the video) and he held on for a few seconds. What you didn’t see was him looking me in the eye, like basically saying sorry for not being able to hug me . He basically killed me with that look. I seriously felt like sparks fly, I felt so much care and passion when he grabbed my hand. Even my mom who was right behind me said he actually wanted to hug me, but what he did instead was so nice. He even said hi to her, haha, but that’s a different story. The lady kept pulling me away and I shouted, “I LOVE YOU!!!!!” It sounds like I’m dying, but I was being pulled away from Justin, like that’s almost as bad, seriously. When I walked away, some guy randomly took a picture of me. I kept walking. Then I make this really weird noise, like a cry that won’t come out. Then my friend comes over and hugs me and I bawl my eyes out. Right after I walked away from the table, I had realized I forgot to give him the letter I wrote him, but whatever. Then the video ends. I continued crying for at least a good 30 minutes walking around New York. When I walked out of J&R Music World, Channel 5 News NY interviewed me! I was actually on the news, crying my eyes out. That’s my Bieber experience. So many haters in my school for the past 3 years have said that I would never meet him, and I turned right around and I told them “Watch me.” Guess who’s laughing, hehe. A lot of people are really happy for me because they know how much I love him. It’s nice to know people are actually happy for me meeting him even though they don’t like him. I hope every belieber gets to meet Justin. You all deserve it, so much. I never thought this day would come. Every time I’ve tried to meet Justin before, it never worked out, something always went wrong so I figured it just wasn’t meant to be. But please never stop trying, you will meet him someday. I love this blog! -Madison Original post: My name is Madison, I’m from New Jersey, and this is My…

Humans become hosts for these invaders, their minds taken over while their bodies remain intact and continue their lives apparently unchanged. Most of humanity has succumbed. When Melanie, one of the few remaining “wild” humans is captured, she is certain it is her end. Wanderer, the invading “soul” who has been given Melanie’s body, was warned about the challenges of living inside a human: the overwhelming emotions, the glut of senses, the too vivid memories. But there was one difficulty Wanderer didn’t expect: the former tenant of her body refusing to relinquish possession of her mind. Wanderer probes Melanie’s thoughts, hoping to discover the whereabouts of the remaining human resistance. Instead, Melanie fills Wanderer’s mind with visions of the man Melanie loves—Jared, a human who still lives in hiding. Unable to separate herself from her body’s desires, Wanderer begins to yearn for a man she has been tasked with exposing. When outside forces make Wanderer and Melanie unwilling allies, they set off on a dangerous and uncertain search for the man they both love. The Host , directed by Andrew Niccol and co-starring Diane Kruger, William Hurt, Jake Abel, and Max Irons, hits theaters on March 29, 2013.
Cole Abaius over at Film School Rejects performs a post-mortem on Adam Sandler ‘s increasingly inane recent output of comedies, as parodied brilliantly in Judd Apatow’s Funny People (then subsequently embraced with stinkers like Jack and Jill — life imitating art imitating life?). “The most prominent George Simmons film in Funny People is a gem called Re-Do where an overworked lawyer is transmuted by magic into the body of an infant,” Abaius observes. “By playing Simmons, Sandler was directly commenting on the hollow nature of a lot of his own work.” The George Simmons Conundrum has been the single most infuriating/perplexing factor in Sandler-watching in the past few years. Clearly he was self-aware enough to recognize and mock his own image and career dependence on stupid high-concept comedies, rather perfectly addressed in the underrated Funny People . So why continued the streak of Razzie-worthy crapfests? For the mainstream money? To meet perceived audience expectations? Because it’s easy*? * We have a winner. [ Film School Rejects ]
Karen Klein, the school bus monitor who was verbally abused by a group of Upstate New York middle school students, has received an apology from two of them. The statements of apology were written to Karen, but have also been released by police, likely in hopes of quieting threats of retribution against the teenagers. One letter, by Josh (last name withheld), says: “I am so sorry for the way I treated you.” Making the School Bus Monitor Cry “When I saw the video I was disgusted and could not believe I did that. I am so sorry for being so mean and I will never treat anyone this way again.” Fellow bully Wesley (last name also withheld), meanwhile, said, “I feel really bad about what I did. I wish I had never done those things.” “If that had happened to someone in my family, like my mother or my grandmother, I would be really mad at the people who did that.” Karen Klein , 68, was driven to tears by their 10-minute torrent of words (above), but said she feels bad for the kids who bullied her as well as their parents. She does not intend to pursue further action. Sympathetic viewers of the viral video set out to raise $5,000 for Klein to go on a dream vacation … and ended up receiving $140,000 in donations .
Teenage phenom is in final negotiations for multi-episode arc next season. By Kara Warner Jessica Sanchez Photo: As if there weren’t already enough excitement surrounding the slightly restructured fourth season of “Glee,” with the characters’ story lines picking up after high school, word on the street is that an “American Idol” finalist will be joining the cast in the fall. According to TV Line , 16-year-old phenom Jessica Sanchez is in final negotiations to join Rachel, Finn, Mr. Schu and the rest of the “Glee” gang for a multi-episode arc. There is no word on what specific role Sanchez will play, or whether she’ll be part of McKinley High’s National Championship-winning New Directions or will surface in the form of competition at another school. Because of Sanchez’s previous commitments to the summer “Idol” tour, she won’t be able to appear on the hit series until closer to the halfway mark of season four. If and when Sanchez’s stint on the show is officially announced, the California native will join an illustrious list of famous “Glee” guest stars: Gwyneth Paltrow, Britney Spears, Neil Patrick Harris, Lindsay Lohan and international pop star Charice. In addition to juggling her responsibilities on the “Idol” tour and the potential gig on “Glee,” the pint-sized powerhouse is also hard at work on her first solo album, which she hopes has more of an urban sound. “I don’t want people to just hand me music and be like, ‘Here, you sound good on this. Sing it.’ I want to be able to say, ‘This is me,’ ” Sanchez told MTV News recently , adding that she has high hopes for some A-list contributors on the album. “This is going to seem odd, but I love Eminem, because he has so much conviction and emotion in the way he raps; every word that he raps, you feel it,” she said. “And I think our talents would mesh. So, hopefully, it could happen, and I would just die if he’d collaborate with me!” Get your “Idol” fix on MTV News’ “American Idol” page , where you’ll find all the latest news, interviews and opinions.
