VICELAND late show hosts Desus & Mero will be adding their comedic genius to ESPN’s NBA coverage this season, according to a statement from ESPN: “ESPN is collaborating with comedy duo Desus Nice & The Kid Mero, ‘Desus & Mero’ from Viceland, to create short videos featuring their commentary about the biggest NBA storylines on and off the court — from blockbuster trades to evolving hairlines, notable hirings to questionable fashion choices, as well as their bold predictions for the upcoming year. The shorts will be incorporated across ESPN’s NBA coverage on digital, social and TV platforms.” The Bronx social media stars have risen from Twitter fame to a show with Complex to their current gig with VICELAND. Hard to understand how ESPN can appreciate the Bodega Boys’ humor while Jemele Hill is still on suspension, though.
Cars 3 is coming to a theater near you … with a twist. A grim, dark twist very unexpected for the franchise. The trailer portrays the main character of the series, cocky but affable race car Lightning McQueen, spinning out in the middle of a race. A slow-motion shot of McQueen busting into a cloud of wreckage, follows, and just before he hits ground, an ominous new tagline appears: “From this moment, everything will change.” One of Disney and Pixar's most commercially successful franchises, Cars is as merchandise-friendly and light-hearted as they come. What it is not, though, is … particularly deep. Whereas some Pixar films are known for emotionally complex and moving storylines, as well as their animation, Cars isn't among them. Perhaps with Disney's first look at Cars 3 – a sequel to Cars (2006) and Cars 2 (2011) – we are seeing hints that this may soon change. The original film featured brash Lightning stuck in the small town of Radiator Springs where he learned humbling lessons in life and love. The first sequel centered more on dim-witted but lovable Mater the Tow Truck being mistaken for an international super spy. Obviously. Owen Wilson will reprise his leading voice role as McQueen in the three-quel, while Larry the Cable Guy is on board as Mater again. Snooki & JWoww, a half-hour Jersey Shore spinoff, premiered on MTV last night. It was … exactly what you think it was. Snooki and JWoww just livin’ life! Of course, we already knew the main storyline coming in, given that the gals are bona fide celebrity gossip staples at this point – Snook’s preggers. Still, not everything about the show, in which the Shore stars move into a Jersey City, N.J., apartment, was telegraphed. Some of it was even funny. Let’s break it down, THG +/- style! JWoww, on prepping to put her partying ways behind her and settle down: “I’m ’bout to hit 30 in a coupla years, and that’s it.” Girl, you’re 26. Minus 9 . The scene in which Snooki tells Jenni she’s pregnant and engaged was evidently not staged, as JWoww is SURE Nicole is kidding and it’s a joke. Plus 50 . “Instead of life throwing me a curveball, it threw me a spermball … obviously.” – Snooki . Clearly written for her by MTV, but still, nice one! Plus 8 . “Jionni proposed and I’m engaged,” Nicole Polizzi insists. “I swear!” “No, you’re not,” Jenni Farley says. “You would’ve told me!!” She just did! Minus 1 . “Like, who lives in a firehouse?” says Snooki, re: their new digs. Firemen, or reality stars basically. Either way, looks like a pretty cool place, so Plus 5 . JWoww isn’t sad about Snooki about being pregnant, just about being late for their apartment hunting and leaving her sitting on a stoop alone. Minus 5 . Plus 20 for the guy ogling the pair out of a car window. Addresses the prospect of paying utilities herself, Snooki wonders why she even needs electricity, and appears not to be joking. Oye. Minus 28 . JWoww tells Roger, “I just don’t want to be, like, that girl at 45 years old, being like ‘Damn, I wish I lived by the city with my girlfriend.'” We doubt anyone said that in reference to Jersey City specifically, but point taken. Plus 4 . “I will always be there for Jenni, no matter what,” says Snook. “She can lift my spirits at the drop of a hat,” says J. Major love-fest alert! Plus 10 . JWoww really has to go to the bathroom while they’re touring an apartment, and the place has no toilet paper. Anyone wondering why, per chance? “She has her period,” Snooki tells the broker. Minus 47 for that over-share. Farley eventually grabs the paper bag used to hold a bagel she bought for Snooki, in case anyone were curious how this would be resolved. Minus 9 . JWoww tells Snooki what she would have done had the bathroom not been functional (because that happens). “That’s disgusting,” she says of JWoww’s answer. “You’ve done worse,” Jenni notes. “Yeah, that’s true,” Snooki confesses. But following reports that claimed Demi Moore was dating True Blood hunk Joe Manganiello, a reliable source has now come out and shot that chatter down: True Blood hunk Joe Manganiello. “There is 100 percent zero truth to that,” Manganiello told Ryan Seacrest yesterday on the host’s 102.7 KIIS FM radio show. “I met her once at a premiere and I maybe talked to her for three minutes.” And what did the stars discuss during that meeting? Getting naked, of course, as Manganiello stars in the upcoming Magic Mike . “She was in Striptease , so I was like, ‘Hey, you played a stripper! I’m playing a stripper,'” he told Seacrest, adding, “And we kind of had a three-minute conversation about exchanging stripping notes, and that was it.” So there was talk of getting naked? San Antonio Spurs star Tony Parker is suing the Manhattan nightclub where a fight between Chris Brown and Drake broke out and led to mass chaos. Why? Because the NBA star suffered a scratched retina when glass bottles and shards started flying during the melee, according to news reports. The baller, who is expected to be fine in time for the Olympics but must wear a patch on the eye for several weeks, seeks $20 million in damages. New York officials shut down W.i.P. nightclub in the aftermath. Parker claims that the club nearly cost him his career by properly secure and oversee the premises in the lead-up to the violent brawl between Chris Brown, Drake, Meek Mill and entourages/security guys/friends of all three music stars. Parker’s lawsuit is not the first, nor the last to result from the night gone awry, in which numerous injuries were reported, some of them serious. Drake alluded to the dustup during a concert in Long Island last weekend, while Meek Mill denies that there was any bad blood between any of them. Drake’s Young Money boss, Lil Wayne, is reportedly trying to help smooth things over as soon as possible. Yes … Lil Wayne is the mediator.
The Bachelorette Emily Maynard star may be on her way to a happy ever after, but at the cost of her daughter … according to a ridiculous new tabloid report . Alleged insiders reveal her bitter fight with the parents of her late fiance (and daughter Ricki’s father) Ricky Hendrick. Which we’ve all heard about by now. “They were beside themselves when they found out she wanted to put little Ricki on TV,” an insider tells In Touch of the couple and their views on Emily. “They think it’s outrageous to put [Ricki] in the middle of a media circus.” While a friend of Emily’s says reports of a rift are untrue, other sources close to the reality star say The Bachelorette has “really strained their relationship.” Sources say Rick and Linda Hendrick tried to accept Emily’s choice to compete for Brad Womack’s affections on The Bachelor, but were opposed to this. Maybe so, but the bottom line is that there is no either/or situation of “choosing fame over her daughter” and that Emily is hardly an absentee mom. Ricki has been seen on every episode this season but one, yet has yet to meet any of the guys; Ricky’s parents and Emily’s parents both care for her. Bristol Palin is saving herself for marriage, she says. After she’s already had a kid, but you know, live and learn. LeBron James stayed out until 6 a.m. But the superstar had a really good excuse: He just won his first NBA championship , earning Finals MVP status in the process. In celebration, James, Dwyane Wade and the rest of the Miami Heat partied it up at LIV Miami nightclub at the Fontainebleau Hotel, downing expensive champagne and dancing along to LMFAO on stage. At one point, the best player on the planet even joined in, making the most of what he hopes is just the first of multiple title celebrations. Karen Klein, the school bus monitor who was verbally abused by a group of Upstate New York middle school students, has received an apology from two of them. The statements of apology were written to Karen, but have also been released by police, likely in hopes of quieting threats of retribution against the teenagers. One letter, by Josh (last name withheld), says: “I am so sorry for the way I treated you.” Making the School Bus Monitor Cry “When I saw the video I was disgusted and could not believe I did that. I am so sorry for being so mean and I will never treat anyone this way again.” Fellow bully Wesley (last name also withheld), meanwhile, said, “I feel really bad about what I did. I wish I had never done those things.” “If that had happened to someone in my family, like my mother or my grandmother, I would be really mad at the people who did that.” Karen Klein , 68, was driven to tears by their 10-minute torrent of words (above), but said she feels bad for the kids who bullied her as well as their parents. She does not intend to pursue further action. Sympathetic viewers of the viral video set out to raise $5,000 for Klein to go on a dream vacation … and ended up receiving $140,000 in donations .
