You may recall the whole college admission scandal that got some TV stars arrested. Well, Dr. Dre isn’t one of those cheating parents, and he made sure to say so. “My daughter got accepted into USC all on her own. No jail time!!!,” was the caption of a photo of an elated Dr. Dre and his smirking seed, Truly Young. In the midst of the huge college admissions scandal that’s rocking the nation, high school seniors all over the country are receiving their acceptance letters to their dream schools. One of those students just so happens to be Dr. Dre’s daughter, Truly Young, who just got accepted into USC….what serendipitous timing, eh? The music mogul posted a photo of him and his daughter holding up her certificate of admission with the caption, “My daughter got accepted into USC all on her own. No jail time!!!” You can’t really blame Dre for his troll, because the opportunity was just too perfect. Fellow celebrities Felicity Huffman and Lori Loughlin are facing criminal charges for allegedly paying to get their kids into prestigious schools–and USC just so happens to be the school at the center of the scandal. Even though Dr. Dre and his daughter are sure that her merit and hard work is what got her into USC’s film school, a lot of people have begun calling out the producer for being hypocritical. Back in 2013, Dre and his business partner Jimmy Iovine founded the Jimmy Iovine And Andre Young Academy, donating millions of dollars to the college. There also happens to be an entire hall on USC’s campus named after the two. With that being said, actually donating money and building halls, libraries, etc. on campus has been the legal way rich people have been getting their kids into college for decades–so even though Dr. Dre’s daughter might have had a big leg up, at least they didn’t do anything illegal.
Hamden Public School clerk Corrine Terrone resigned on Friday after video of her calling a Black couple the N-word and spitting at them (twice) went viral. The video, which was posted on Facebook by Tatiana Winn , shows the White woman going off the Black man as her two young daughters stood beside her and watched. “Don’t you dare talk to me like that in front of my children motherfu**er. Oh you motherfu**er, you motherfu**er. That’s why there’s ni**ers in East Haven.” No word on what started the racist tirade or who the Black couple in the video is, but it cost Terrone her job. Hamden School District released a statement regarding the incident saying, “The language (Terrone) used in the video is in conflict with the values of the school district and someone who will use that sort of language in any setting whether public or private is not someone we want anywhere near our children.” Welp.

This proved to be true this week when well-known T.V. actors were charged for trying to finesse their kids into college. According to USA Today , Lori Loughlin is one person caught up in what’s being called the nation’s largest-ever college admissions bribery case prosecuted by the Justice Department. Loughlin famously played Aunt Becky in the forever-syndicated 1990s sitcom Full House . She was the love interest of the suave Uncle Jesse (played by John Stamos ), and eventually they got married and had two adorable twins in the show. Picture-perfect story right? Too bad Aunty Becky was trying to play the education system in real life. The Justice Department charged 33 affluent parents, which included television stars and CEOs, with participating in a detailed conspiracy to get their kids into elite schools. The scheme included cheating on the SAT and ACT, as well as parents paying coaches “enormous sums” to accept students who’s athletic credentials weren’t realistic. In some instances, coaches agreed to pretend that students applying to their school were highly recruited athletes, when in actuality, the student didn’t even compete in that specific sport. Along with parents, people who have been charged include two ACT and SAT exam administrators, one exam proctor and one college administrator. At the core of the case was an admissions consultant named William Rick Singer, according to federal prosecutors. They say he ran a college counseling organization called “The Key,” which accepted more than $25 million in payments from parents from 2011 to February 2019. Singer is accused of funneling money to coaches and other education officials to guarantee students’ admission into top schools like Georgetown, Yale, Stanford, the University of Southern California and Wake Forest University. According to NBC News , Loughlin and her fashion designer husband Mossimo Giannulli agreed to pay $500,000 in bribes to boost their two daughters’ chances of getting admitted into USC, according to court papers. Loughlin even allegedly told a cooperating witness that she would arrange for one of her daughters to pose in a rowing machine in order to boost the false claim that she was the crew coxswain for the L.A. Marine Club team. Loughlin was charged with conspiracy to commit mail fraud and honest services fraud. Felicity Huffman of Desperate Housewives fame was also an actress charged in the conspiracy. She and her husband, actor William H. Macy , allegedly paid $15,000 to get one of their daughters unlimited time for her SAT exam. Huffman faces the same charges as Loughlin. Her husband, however, wasn’t charged, whereas Loghlin and her husband were both charged in the scandal. Whew! It’s a lot. And people didn’t waste time ridiculing the T.V. stars for their dishonest endeavors. Loughlin especially got a lot of heat when the Full House references came flying. Today (March 7), Netflix revealed that season 2 of She’s Gotta Have It will premiere this May on Memorial Day Weekend. The Spike Lee-directed series (he and his wife Tonya Lee Lewis are both executive producers) based on his classic film will return on May 24, to be exact. DeWanda Wise reprised her role as Nola Darling, and this season will be “struggling with newfound success” while “against a backdrop of black art and culture.” So is Nola going to secure the bag and go corporate? We shall see. The cast of usual suspects also return, including Mars Blackmon (Anthony Ramos), Greer Childs (Cleo Anthony), Jamie Overstreet (Lyriq Bent) and Winnie Win (Fat Joe). While Ft. Greene, Brooklyn is still home base, this season Nola and company will also be expanding outside the borough.
