Stephen Colbert on D&D

…….hey buddy,….everyone went through the “rat problem” phase. In the spring of 1976 I was in seventh grade. I had been reading science fiction for two years and had just started bleeding over into fantasy. One day at lunch I overheard my friend Keith saying, “I listened at the door, and I didn't hear anything, so I went inside and got attacked by a giant rat!” I said, “What do you mean, you listened at the door? What are you talking about?” They said, “Well, it's kind of hard to explain, but in this game called Dungeons & Dragons there's a probability that you'll hear something through a door, and my character's a thief so he can hear better. The game just came out. Come over Friday and we'll play.” I did and was instantly hooked. A whole new kind of game. No board — just dice, just probabilities. It allowed me to enter the world of the books I was reading. I put more effort into that game than I ever did into my schoolwork. We were all complete outcasts in school — beyond the fringe, beyond nerds. We were our own sub-dimensional bubble of the school. I'm not even sure we were on the rolls of any of the classes; that's how outcast we were. D&D made quite a little explosion when it first came out. We were close to the Bible Belt, and ministers were preaching on TV against it, saying that it was a cult,….. to be continued,…after these dots…………….. http://pc.gamespy.com/pc/dungeons-dragons-online/537989p1.html added by: remanns

How Your Son Could End Up on the Sex Offender List

Let's say your son turns 18. He gets a job at the local carnival, running the ride where the kids lie face down and spin around till they shriek with delight (or puke). Before each ride he has to buckle the kids in so they don't fly out. But then — tragedy strikes. Oh, don't worry. Nobody goes flying. They're buckled just fine. But one girl does tell her mother, “He touched my bottom!” The mom alerts the police. The police come over and ask, “Is that true?” Your son replies, “Maybe. I have to lock the bar around their waists and between their legs. They squirm. It could have happened.” The next day the police take him in for questioning. They ask him the same thing, this time with the videotape running. He gives them the same answer. It is considered his confession. He is convicted of “Indecent Assault and Battery on a Child.” He goes to jail for nine months. He is put on the Sex Offender Registry — for life. Meantime, a few years later, your younger son is now 18. He's at the urinal in the school bathroom during a weekend service project. A girl too young to read bursts in and he yells, “Out out out! Get out!” She starts crying and leaves. Her mom is concerned. The police are called. Was he in the men's room with a girl? Well, yes. Since everyone agrees the girl was not touched, he is convicted of “Visual Sexual Aggression Against a Child” — the crime of having a child see his genitals. He does six months in jail. He's placed on the Sex Offender Registry for the next 10 years. Let us remember this when we look up our local sex offender maps and see two convicts: One who ostensibly exposes himself to children and one who ostensibly assaults them. We consult those maps because, as parents, we are hardwired to worry about our children. We worry about them getting hurt by strangers. But few of us worry about them getting hurt by strange laws that can put a young man behind bars for touching a child, even accidentally, on the bottom, in public, with everyone's clothes on. Or for having a child, even accidentally, glimpse his private parts. I spoke to the actual mom of these two young men. She's a fishing net-maker in Maine and she put it pretty succinctly: “We're all just one accusation away from the sex offender registry.” http://www.parentdish.com/2010/05/11/how-your-son-could-end-up-on-the-sex-offend… http://rlv.zcache.com/sex_offender_tshirt-p235725848455673961c29z_400.jpg added by: MotherForTruth

Britney Spears to make an appearance on “High School Musical 3"

After her appearance in television series “How I Met Your Mother” boosted up the ratings of the series, it has been rumored that troubled pop singer Britney Spears will be tapped to join the Wildcats cast in the third installment of the successful Disney’s film series “High School Musical 3: Senior Year”. The film series’ helmer desperately wants the former pop princess to make a cameo appearance in the film. “Britney is a modern day icon and having her in HSM would be incredible,” director Ortega allegedly explained. “If Ms. Darbus had a star pupil like her in the drama class, Sharpay would have some stiff competition.” Further, it was said that her appearance will be backed up with a parody on her infamous gym hall dance routine from her hit debut single “Baby One More Time”. Aside from that, it is still unclear though whether she would appear together with the stars of “HSM”, Zac Efron and Vanessa Hudgens. Source Gossip Boulevard/britneyspearsblackout.com I doubt it’s true!

Now you can play with your Chlamydia!

The site StuffedAnimals.com are selling a series of virus based plush toys. They're very cute but I don't think I would want little sister running around playing with E Coli or Flesh Eating Microbe. This just makes me think, “Who thought of this?!?!” Who knows, maybe sexually transmitted diseases are cute. http://www.stuffedanimals.com/SearchResults.asp added by: a_roxanne

Swizz Beatz Wants To ‘Get Really Involved’ In Arts Education

‘I just feel that it’s so important to really be a part of something that’s so amazing and helpful,’ the producer says. By Shaheem Reid Swizz Beatz Talks With Students Photo: MTV News Swizz Beatz met with some of his younger fans Thursday (May 13) in his hometown of the Bronx, New York. The super-producer is not just giving his time and energy to help mold youthful minds, but he’s teaching them some of his skills and donating his money. Swizz has adopted the Bronx Charter School for the Arts, which incorporates arts education with social skills and other academics for its elementary-age students. “I been doing things in that world [of art], but I wanted to take it up another notch and get really involved,” Swizz said. “A lot of people can go to charities and donate certain things and go back to their life — that doesn’t mean the problem is over or the demand of need for a youth is over. I just feel that it’s so important to really be a part of something that’s so amazing and helpful full-time.” Swizz says hopes that when influential and successful individuals get involved in charities they sincerely care about the work. “[I hope they mean it], as opposed to, ‘I’mma go to this charity so I could feel better’ — that’s how people look at it. ‘It’s a good look if I do this.’ But I think it’s a good look if you do it for real and maintain for real. I’m from the South Bronx and the school is not too far from Jackson Avenue, where I used to live — St. Mary’s projects. It’s just super amazing to see kids that come from the ‘hood with so much positive energy in this negative world. “It’s always something amazing going on,” he added about the school. “Yesterday I was there and they got this play called ‘Seussical.’ It’s like a Broadway play for real. They got their stuff together. They got an art auction. I’m gonna get all the celebrities and people I know to make adopting charter schools the thing to do, especially for art. Those are the programs being taken away and those are the programs that help our kids. We can’t take that away. That’s the thing right there that keeps the kids there motivated with hope. When you’ re talking arts and music and different things like [that], which is still a learning [tool] from these things — no disrespect to any other subject. They’re able to teach the kids all the fundamental things in the world through art and music.” Swizz said he’s working out a deal now where he can donate some of the proceeds of his next album to the Bronx Charter School for the Arts as well as other children in need of arts education. There’s no release date, but Swizz — who’s featured in the new video for Diddy’s “Hello, Good Morning” — has been staying busy in the lab working on tracks for Diddy, Rick Ross and Busta Rhymes and has also submitted records for Dr. Dre’s Detox LP. Queen Latifah Recalls Being The Teacher’s Kid, On ‘When I Was 17’

‘This may sound like a bad thing to a lot of people, but thank God my mother was the cool teacher,’ she says. By Jayson Rodriguez Photo: MTV News Before she was Queen Latifah, she was Dana Owens, a burgeoning female MC. Back then, everyone’s favorite hip-hop multi-hyphenate found herself in a position that would have made most students curl up and cry. “When I was 17, I attended the same high school my mother taught at,” Queen Latifah reveals during the next episode of MTV’s new show “When I Was 17,” which airs Saturday at 11 a.m. and also features Drake and Olympic softball player Jennie Finch . “Now this may sound like a bad thing to a lot of people, but thank God my mother was the cool teacher that everyone liked.” The rapper-turned-Oscar-nominated actress isn’t telling a tall tale, according to manager Sha-Kim Compere, who was a fellow classmate. “You would gravitate to her because of her free spirit,” he said of Latifah’s mother, an Irvington High School teacher in New Jersey. “She was one of the friendliest people.” Well, apparently, like mother like daughter, because Latifah explains that in high school, she was voted most comical and most popular by her peers. “I was that girl,” she says. “That’s how the people voted, and I have to honor the request of the people.” Long live the Queen. “When I Was 17” — this week featuring Drake, Queen Latifah and Jennie Finch — airs Saturday at 11 a.m. on MTV.
