Rest In Power: New Project Allows Black People To Write Their Own Obituaries Before Cops Kill Them

New Project Allows Black People Write Their Own Obituaries The Black Obituary Project is a collection of pre-written obits to put a spotlight on the anti-Black violence and growing surge of police brutality. HuffPo recently featured the project’s creator on why he chose to convey his sentiments in this fashion: “Ja’han Elliot Jones, 24, was unarmed when shot and killed in conflict with local police officers,” his obituary reads. “His familiarity with the Black canon steered him into a potent state of unapologetic Blackness ― one in which the James Baldwins and Young Jeezy’s; the bell hookses and the Queen Bey’s; the Frantz Fanons and the Futures all occupied hollowed, cherished beautiful space in Jones’ identity.” “So often, we are killed and our photos are posted about but our stories are not,” Jones told The Huffington Post. “This grants black folks agency we’re often denied in death. We are telling our stories ― speaking of our triumphs and tragedies ― before anyone else attempts to do so for us.” Another obituary: Read more obits at the Black Obituary Project HERE .

When It Rains, It Pours: The Center For Arts And Tehnology Pulls Sponsorship Of Canadian Concert Over Chris Breezy’s “Reputation”

Damn, Chris this probation violation is already phucking your bread up. Sponsor Drops Out Of Festival Over Chris Brown Sponsors start pulling out, next he’ll be losing that endorsement scrilla. Iyanla needs to book him a spot on her show ASAP cause at the rate Chris is going, we will have to change his name from Chris to Bobby. That’s not a good look. According to Rhymes With Snitch Earlier this week a Canadian telecommunications company pulled their sponsorship from the Energy Rush music festival in Nova Scotia after learning that singer Chris Brown had been added to the line up. Another sponsor has followed suit… The Center for Arts and Technology-Halifax released a statement on their Facebook page on their decision to cut ties with the event. CATH writes, “Due to the recent announcement of Chris Brown as Energy Rush’s featured artist, we have officially withdrawn our sponsorship from this event. When we became a sponsor of Energy Rush, we were not aware of who the featured artist was going to be at that time… We feel that pulling our sponsorship is the best option given the feature artist’s reputation. As an educational institution, we can’t ignore the sentiments expressed on campus that participating in this year’s event goes against our collective values.” Get it together Chris.

Sammy Hagar Abducted By Aliens Awhile Back

Former Van Halen front man Sammy Hagar may have had too many tequila shots at his bar in Cabo San Lucas, because dude has officially lost it. Either that or the tests the aliens ran on him are finally taking their toll. Hagar swears that aliens – real, extraterrestrial life forms – abducted him. The location of the abduction? Fontana, California. The date? A few decades ago. “It was real. They plugged into me,” Hagar, who’s promoting his memoir, Red: My Uncensored Life in Rock , tells the L.A. Times . “It was a download situation.” “Or, they uploaded something from my brain, like an experiment. They tapped into my brain and the knowledge was transferred back and forth.” Hagar insists the whole thing wasn’t even his first such experience. He says he saw his first UFO at age four, hovering over a field near his home. Sammy insists this is not a joke, BTW: “It happened. That friggin’ happened.” Alien life forms and UFOs …

The Pulse: Who was UnGleeful This Week?

Glee is on hiatus until April 12. But a couple random celebrities have given fans of this Fox series a couple things to buzz over during the break. First, Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl went off on the show, echoing the sentiments of King of Leon and a couple other artists that have taken exception to creator Ryan Murphy’s insistence over all bands giving the show rights to their music. Grohl cursed a lot in his assessment of this stance. Then, former SNL cast member Victoria Jackson reacted to a male-on-male kiss by accusing to Glee of pushing an agenda of ” one-way tolerance .” We’ve summarized both feuds in this edition of The Pulse… The Pulse: Glee Scandal Alert! It’s double poll time, readers. How do you feel about Dave Grohl’s reaction to Glee? Does Victoria Jackson have a point?

GOP Rep. Louie Gohmert: Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell Repeal Threatens American ‘Existence’

In the heat of the debate over the “don't ask, don't tell” repeal bill, which was eventually passed by the House Wednesday by a 250 to 175 margin, Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-Texas) delivered a floor speech railing against overturning the military protocol on the grounds that allowing gay servicemembers to serve openly would be a threat to America's “existence.” Here are his comments, via ThinkProgress: GOHMERT: To my friend who said that history would judge us poorly, I would submit if you would look thoroughly at history — and I'm not saying it's cause and effect — but when militaries throughout history of the greatest nations in the world have adopted the policy that “fine for homosexuality to be overt” — you can keep it private and control your hormones fine, if you can't, that's fine too — they're toward the end of their existence as a great nation. Gohmert also strangely argued that the military was necessarily, and by its very nature, “inconsistent with American values.” “It does not have freedom of speech, it does not have freedom of assembly, it does not have the freedom to express its love to those in the military the way you can out here, because it's an impediment to the military mission,” Gohmert said, implying that the survey gauging the sentiments of soldiers was misleading because it had forced certain responses from respondents. The truth of the matter, Gohmert contended, was that the military would lose hundreds and probably thousands of soldiers who would not reenlist if DADT was annulled, but they wouldn't admit this in a forum that could be seen by their superiors. Though Defense Secretary Robert Gates and the Joint Chiefs of Staff have urged caution in overturning the ban on openly gay servicemembers — a course of action that they have nonetheless endorsed — they have also backed the results of the troop survey, saying that it proves that there would be a “low overall risk of repeal.” The DADT bill now heads to the Senate for a vote, where it is believed by some to have the support to pass and send to the president for signing. added by: TimALoftis
