Gary Coleman’s Funeral To Take Place This Weekend

Former child actor will be buried in Salt Lake City. By Gil Kaufman Gary Coleman Photo: Getty Images The funeral for former child actor Gary Coleman will be held in Salt Lake City this weekend. According to UsMagazine.com , the service for the sitcom star will be held either Friday or Saturday at a funeral home in the actor’s adopted home state. Coleman’s lawyer, Randy Kester, said the actor’s estranged parents, Sue and Willie Coleman, are planning to attend the service, despite having seen little of their adopted son for much of the past 20 years following a 1989 lawsuit over the handling of his childhood acting earnings. Kester said he recently spoke with Sue and that it’s been “kind of hard” for her to deal with the sudden death of Gary, 42, who passed away on Friday after suffering a brain hemorrhage as a result of a fall last Wednesday. Sue Coleman spoke to People magazine, saying that her son had, “a God-given talent” and getting into show business was his idea. “We always told him, ‘It’s up to you, Gary.’ We never forced him to do anything. We protected him as best we could.” After his career stalled following the cancellation of “Strokes” in 1986, Coleman blamed his parents for allegedly taking advantage of him financially, settling a lawsuit against them and his business manager in 1993 that cemented the long estrangement. “We never stole from our son,” Sue told the magazine. “We always had his best interests at heart. After we stopped hearing from him, we reached out to him anyway we could. Over the years, we sent him birthday and Christmas wishes through his agents and managers because we often had no phone number, no address to reach him. But we always hoped someday he’d come around. … We want him to be remembered as the talented young man he was. We never stopped being proud of Gary.” As for Coleman’s wife, Shannon Price , and other members of the “Diff’rent Strokes” actor’s family, Kester said “they seem to be doing OK. … It’s all kind of a shocker. Even I think back, ‘Oh my gosh!’ You know. Gary’s really gone. It’s one of those things that you keep trying to get your mind around.” At press time it had not yet been announced whether this weekend’s service will be private or open to the public. This has been so comforting to the family to know how beloved he still is.” Here’s a nice photo of Gary and Shannon … Shannon Price wed Gary Coleman in 2007 . Gary Coleman’s Widow Thanks Fans For ‘Wonderful Support’

‘This has been so comforting to the family to know how beloved he still is,’ her statement reads. By Kara Warner Gary Coleman Photo: Michael Loccisano/Getty Images Mere hours after news broke that Gary Coleman died of an intracranial hemorrhage on Friday (May 28), Coleman’s widow, Shannon Price, thanked fans for their support. The heartfelt statement was read by her brother, Shawn Price, at a news conference. “We are very grateful for all the wonderful support everyone has been extending to Gary’s family,” he said. “Thousands of e-mails have poured in to the hospital. This has been so comforting to the family to know how beloved he still is. … Thank you so much for all that you guys have done and for the support and prayers that you guys have given us.” Price also said that details regarding Coleman’s death and funeral arrangements will be announced soon. The “Diff’rent Strokes” actor , whose congenital kidney disease halted his childhood growth at an early age, had suffered a series of health setbacks in recent years. He was admitted to the Utah Valley Regional Medical Center in Provo on Wednesday after hitting his head in an unexplained fall and had reportedly slipped into critical condition by the next day. On Friday, doctors announced that he was unconscious and on life support in a coma due to an intracranial hemorrhage, which results from a broken or ruptured blood vessel, causing bleeding inside the skull. Born in Zion, Illinois, on February 8, 1968, Coleman was adopted as an infant by a local couple. He was diagnosed with an autoimmune dysfunction called focal segmental glomerulosclerosis, a congenital kidney disease that stunted his growth (he was 4-foot-8) and required two kidney transplants as well as daily dialysis. Later in life, he was forced to work as a security guard on a movie set in 2008 when acting gigs dried up. He got married that year to then-22-year-old Shannon Price, though the union was rocky, landing the couple on the syndicated “Divorce Court” show. He was hospitalized in Los Angeles for undisclosed reasons in January, then again in February after suffering a seizure on the set of the TV show “The Insider.” Share your thoughts and memories of Gary Coleman in the comments below. Gary Coleman Hospitalized In Critical Condition

The 42-year-old former child actor suffered a head injury during a fall. By Kelley L. Carter Gary Coleman Photo: Michael Loccisano/Getty Images Gary Coleman has undergone emergency surgery and is in critical condition in a Utah hospital, CNN reports. The 42-year-old former child actor was taken to the hospital after suffering a head injury during a fall. The actor’s brother-in-law told TMZ that Coleman is listed in critical condition, saying he was taken from his home in Utah to the hospital around 12:50 p.m. Wednesday. TMZ also reported that Coleman had what was thought to be a seizure while doing a TV interview in February for “The Insider.” At the time, sources on set told the website that Dr. Drew was with the actor as part of a panel and helped Coleman until paramedics showed up on the scene. The site also reported that Coleman was hospitalized in January for what might have been a seizure. Coleman’s manager told E! News that “we’re just getting bits and pieces right now, so there’s really nothing to report. If there’s anything to announce, we’ll let you know.” Coleman, who first became famous for playing Arnold Drummond on the TV series “Diff’rent Strokes,” also has a congenital kidney disease and receives frequent dialysis. Coleman had heart surgery last fall that became complicated by pneumonia, his attorney Randy Kester told The Associated Press. The AP also reports that Coleman has lived in Utah since 2005, when he moved there to star in a comic film called “Church Ball,” which is based on the basketball leagues formed by members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Coleman and his wife, Shannon Price, met on the set of the film and married in 2007. Share your well wishes with Coleman and his family in the comments.
