Where Will Bruno Mars’ ‘Rain’ Fall In ‘Breaking Dawn’?

MTV News takes a closer listen to ‘It Will Rain’ for lyrical clues about its placement in the film. By Jocelyn Vena and Amy Wilkinson Bruno Mars Photo: Jemal Countess/Getty Images On Tuesday (September 27), Bruno Mars dropped the sweeping, heartbreaking “It Will Rain,” the lead single from the “Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1” soundtrack , which drops November 8. The Smeezingtons-produced song is all about the pain someone feels when they are deeply in love. On it, Mars croons tortured lines like “There’s no religion that could save me/ No matter how long my knees are on the floor/ So keep in mind all the sacrifices I’m making/ To keep you by my side/ And keep you from walking out the door.” While Twilighters will have to wait until November 18 to find out where the song will be featured in the flick, there are several lyrical cues that offer hints. Hit play on the embedded video as we talk through the song, then read on for a deeper exploration. The Wedding Of course it won’t appear in the actual wedding scene, like when Bella walks down the aisle, but lines like “I’ll never be your mother’s favorite/ Your daddy can’t even look me in the eye/ If I was in their shoes I’d be doing the same/ Say, ‘There goes my little girl/ Walking with that troublesome guy’ ” certainly mirror Charlie’s feelings about the nuptials. Jacob’s Goodbye When Mars sings, “Don’t you say goodbye/ Don’t you say goodbye/ I’ll pick up these broken pieces till I’m bleeding/ If that’ll make it right,” it seems to mimic the heartbreak Jacob feels as he sees Bella marry another man and says goodbye to her once more. The Honeymoon Sure, the song is about heartbreak and pain, but the sexy, sultry nature of the track could make for the right kind of mood-setter as Bella and Edward finally get it on. The Pregnancy As Mars cries, ” ‘Cause there’ll be no sunlight/If I lose you, baby/ There’ll be no clear skies/ If I lose you, baby/ And just like the clouds, my eyes will do the same/ If you walk away, every day it’ll rain,” it mirrors Edward’s angst as he thinks he might lose Bella if she has their child, a vampire/human hybrid. ‘Hunger Games’ Director Unpacks VMA Footage

Gary Ross says Jennifer Lawrence will help him give viewers the same ‘visceral experience’ as the books. By Eric Ditzian Jennifer Lawrence in “The Hunger Games” Photo: Lionsgate While the “Hunger Games” teaser trailer lit up the MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday, director Gary Ross was back in North Carolina, his head space not so much occupied with Lady Gaga in drag and Lil Wayne’s long dreads as it was with Katniss Everdeen and the dystopian nation called Panem. Ross is still in the midst of shooting his adaptation of “The Hunger Games,” but last week, with the teaser set to debut at the VMAs, he took the time to touch base with MTV News via Skype to give us his exclusive commentary about the footage. Katniss Vision Suzanne Collins’ novel is a first-person tale, and it’s clear from the teaser Ross is striving to capture that same sort of immediate access into Katniss’ head. “I think one of the most important things when you adapt a book like this is to give people the experience they really had when they read it — the same kind of visceral experience they had,” he explained. “I think [the reason] everybody felt so strongly in what Suzanne did was that they were with this character, they understood her, they were in her shoes, they were in her head. It was such an intense first-person experience. My job in making a film is first and foremost to reflect that. “How do we get inside Katniss’ head? How do we feel what she’s feeling? How do we become her?” Ross continued. “The first thing that allows you to do that is Jennifer Lawrence, because she’s such an unbelievable actor. She has so much depth and power and talent and sophistication and sensitivity and subtly that she’s become Katniss Everdeen synonymously. I hope people feel about Jen and Katniss at the end of this three-book cycle the way they feel about Daniel Radcliffe and Harry Potter — that they’ve become very, synonymous with one another.” Get “Hunger Games” experts’ analysis of the teaser. Gale’s Voiceover That voiceover you hear during the trailer? That’s Katniss’ District 12 pal Gale Hawthorne (Liam Hemsworth). And Ross has a very specific idea in mind about the importance of making Gale a part of this initial footage (and not Katniss’ Hunger Games companion, Peeta Mellark). “As everyone knows, Gale is an enormous part of Katniss’ life, but he’s not as big a part of the first book as he is the subsequent books,” the director told us. “I think he’s very, very present and he’s tremendously important, but of course we shift into the Capitol and then the arena, where Peeta ends up playing a more prominent role. But he’s in her head, he’s in her life, he’s something that echoes with her throughout the games, as any reader of the book knows, so he plays an obviously prominent role.” The Difficulty of the Shoot Though Ross and his team didn’t have to contend with giant fireballs in the woods, as Katniss does in the first look, the filmmaker revealed that the set in the North Carolina forest posed quite a challenge to the production. “This was like shooting in Vietnam,” he said. “I felt like I was making ‘Apocalypse Now.’ The thing was so rigorous. We spent something like six weeks outside in the jungle every day, hiking up and down mountains with cameras and in the mud and in driving rain storms. We all felt it, but nobody felt it as much as Jen did. It’s been an intense physical experience for her.” Just Getting Started While Ross was proud to show off this initial footage, he told us this is only the beginning and that there are a few scenes and characters in particular that he can’t wait for people to see in the future. “We’re still shooting, so unfortunately, it’s just a teaser,” he said. “We could only give you a little bit, because we’re still down here making the movie. I’ve got to leave in half an hour and shoot. But there’s a lot of things to come that I think are going to be hugely epic and very emotional and incredibly powerful. I think that we’ve done wonderful things with the mutts. I think that we’ve done a tremendous job bringing the Capitol to life, and I think that’s going to be really, really exciting for people to see. And all the performances! Wait till you see Stanley Tucci do Caesar Flickerman.” Check out everything we’ve got on “The Hunger Games.” For young Hollywood news, fashion and “Twilight” updates around the clock, visit HollywoodCrush.MTV.com . Green Day Debut Amy Winehouse Tribute Song

Band played ‘Amy’ at charity show in California on Thursday. By Gil Kaufman Green Day’s Billie Joe Armstrong and Mike Dirnt (file) Photo: Bryan Bedder/ Getty Images There was a good reason Green Day had a “no cell phone” policy at their secret show at the Tiki Bar in Costa Mesa, California, on Thursday in support of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation: They were debuting some new songs. In addition to giving some very lucky fans a peek at some fresh tracks they are working on for their next album, the trio also unwrapped “Amy,” a brand-new tribute to late singer Amy Winehouse. The touching, unplugged-style tune dedicated to the “Rehab” singer, who died at age 27 last month of as-yet-unexplained circumstances , alludes to Winehouse’s troubled life and her signature fashions with evocative lyrics. “Amy, is your heart singing out of tune/ Are your eyes just singing the blues/ Dirty records from another time/ Some blood stains on your shoes,” go the opening lines, according to lyrics posted on the band’s official website . A scratchy bootleg recording of the song features singer Billie Joe Armstrong crooning the 1950s-style doo-wop tune over gently picked electric guitar. “No one really knows about your soul/ And I barely even know your name/ Burning rhythms and posting lies/ For a bunch of fools drown in shame/ Amy don’t you go/ I want you around/ Singin’ woah please don’t go/ Do you wanna be a friend of mine?/ Did you tattoo a lucky charm/ To keep you out of harm’s way?/ Warding off all evil signs/ But it never really kept you safe.” The final bit laments Winehouse’s premature death and substance battles with the lines, “You’re too young for the golden age/ ‘Cause the record bin’s been replaced/ 27 gone without a trace/ And you walked away from your drink.” The song ends with the emotional image, “May I have this last dance/ By chance if we should meet?/ Can you write me a lullaby?/ So we can sing you to sleep.” Green Day are the latest artists to pay tribute to Winehouse, a list that also includes U2 , Coldplay and M.I.A. In addition to “Amy,” Green Day also previewed a number of other new songs during a full set of unheard tracks, including “Nuclear Family,” “Carpe Diem” and “Sweet 16.” “Thanks everyone for coming out to the show Thursday night and supporting us and the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation,” the band wrote on its site. “We have been in jamming and writing new songs for the last few months. It felt great to play these new Green Day songs live and share our ‘work in progress.’ Stay tuned for more!” Related Videos Amy Winehouse Remembered Related Photos Amy Winehouse And Other Idols Gone At Age 27 Amy Winehouse: A Life In Photos

7 Ways To Glam Up Your Walk Of Shame

Here is the original post:

Okay, so maybe your morning afters aren’t the same as the typical college “stumbling from a frat house or dorm to your own place” while managing to pass at least 2 friends and a professor on the way. But, even people in relationships often find themselves struggling to fix their morning-after appearance as they head back home or go with their guy to grab bagels and iced coffees. Rather than tossing yourself into his shower that might not have your favorite flowery  products, use some of these tricks to take the walk of shame in the most stylish and classy way possible! Big Purse : While a clutch might be more convenient and stylish for your night out, it won’t be able to properly fit all of your walk of shame essentials. Find a bag that’s big enough with secret compartments. You’ll be ready for an “unexpected” all-nighter without having to stop at the drug store on your way back! Makeup Remover : Let’s face it, his bar soap just won’t do to get rid of your raccoon eyes, and smudged makeup is a huge no-no if you’re trying not to look like a train wreck on your walk home. Bring along some make up remover pads and you can freshen up your face right before you head out the door! Sunglasses: The best way to hide your tired eyes (and half of your face if necessary) is by throwing on a pair of sunglasses that are large and in charge. Make sure that they’re cheap! The worst would be to leave your favorite pair at someone’s place that you were hoping to never have to walk back from again. Find a decent and cheap pair of hater-blockers to ward off the dirty looks and most importantly, remain anonymous. Hair Tie: When you wake up and your hair manages to be going in every direction but you still feel like you can’t move, make sure you have a hair accessory to tame it down. Whether it’s a headband, hair clip, or hair tie that helps you manage, if your hair looks like a mess it’s pretty obvious that your night took some unexpected turns and tangles. Breath Mints: Whether it’s alcohol or the late night munchies that you regret eating, morning breath is a dead give-away of a messy night. Throw some breath mints into your handy overnight bag and leave his apartment with the confidence to talk to whoever you see on the street. Want to be extra prepared? Toss a mini toothbrush into your bag and do a quick bathroom clean up before you head out- it’ll almost be like you’re ready for the real day! Comfy Shoes: Even if you do manage to grab a t-shirt and shorts from him to wear on your walk instead of the wrinkled mini dress from last night, the combination of boys’ clothes with stilettos is a clear give-away. Toss a pair of flats into your bag and make your walk more comfortable and way less obvious. Scarf: Your 9:00 pm attire of a cleavage hugging tank might not be the best for your 9:00 am walk home. What you wanted to flaunt the night before might be just what you need to hide in the morning. Throw some sort of scarf or cover up into your bag to keep your outfit up with the time of day. So what do you say ladies? Will these tips help you on your next walk of shame? Do you have anymore suggestions? K. Michelle Talks Beef With Keyshia Cole & Working With R. Kelly On Her Debut Album [EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW]

Read the original post:

Its hard out here for a female R&B singer these days, but K. Michelle is not sweating it. She has a powerful voice that has the critics comparing her to Mary J. Blige and Keyshia Cole, she takes that as a compliment. The Jive recording artist is gearing up to drop her debut album Pain Medicine , which she says is not just for the ladies but everyone can relate. Don’t let the blue hair fool you, this woman is educated and has many talents to fall back on if singing doesn’t work in her favor. K. Michelle munched on a bag of potato chips while giving me the scoop on beefing with Keyshia Cole, collaborating with her mentor R. Kelly and how becoming a mother in college didn’t stop her from obtaining her degree. I thought I liked K. Michelle before this interview but after, I think I fell in love. She kept it real and I could tell she was just being herself.  Get into K. Michelle’s realness below, I am sure you all will enjoy this interview. TUD’s Jazzy F : I’m not even gone waste time, I’m just gone go right in. What’s going on between you and Keyshia Cole? There’s absolutely nothing going on with Keyshia Cole; I don’t know what her problem is with me, but I have no problem with her.  I bought every single Keyshia Cole album.  She continues to take shots at me, and I continue to turn the other cheek.  Because this is how I feel about it:  If you’re hot, nobody can take your spot.  It is what it is.  God gave her that spot; I can’t take it.  She has a little boy, I have a little boy.  I support her.  I have no problem with Keyshia,  I want to see her succeed.  I love her new record, but the blows being thrown on Twitter have got to stop; we’re two grown women, two black women, and we need to come together. Do you feel pressure from comparisons? No, because I’m a mermaid; I’m not even human.  I could not compete with those girls anyway.  I don’t feel any pressure at all.  You compare me to Keyshia, compare me to Mary — they sold records — great!  But at this point I’m just getting my feet wet.  I play piano, I love country music, I sing ballads.  Half of that, no one has even seen.  So they’re only comparing me based on what the label has put out on me and what they see.  And I can’t get mad about that.  People will compare you in order to be comfortable with letting you in the game.  It did kind of anger me, but I had a recent conversation that made me feel better. You went to FAMU on scholarship for yodeling? [giggles and hesitates] Yeah, I got a scholarship for yodeling.  It’s a HBCU, so they weren’t used to that.  I sang other songs as well, but I yodeled and they gave me a scholarship. Did you have your son when you were in undergrad? Sure did.  That’s why when people say they can’t go to college and the can’t finish college, I don’t hear them.  I went to class everyday up until I had my baby, and I went back to school a week later.  And I graduated on time, in four years.  And I had my son, who didn’t ever go to sleep.  The very last couple of months of my last year, my mother and father came and got my son because they wanted to make sure that I ended with great grades and everything like that.  So I thank God for my parents, because a lot of parents are not going to come a take a newborn.  But they came and got him.  I couldn’t study or sleep because I had a baby crying. I read that you play the piano, is that something you really enjoy? I love being on stage, wildin out, taking off my shoes and running around, drinking and having a good time, and having to sit behind the piano is a-whole-nother thing.  But that is a gift that I do have.  I have to really get better about it, because that’s something that touches people as well.  Right now, like tonight, I have sit down and really learn “How Many Times” and ‘Today Just Ain’t My Day”; I read sheet music.  For me, it wasn’t a given gift; it was something that my mom and dad said I was going to do.  But it did help my ear, and it helped me to hear things, when I go in the studio to mimic sounds, it builds my ear for music. How did you link up with R. Kelly? Well actually, I was supposed to sign with him first through Jive, and what ended up happening was  I went in the building and Wayne Williams took a great interest in me.  And from there, after I signed with Jive, a week later they took me to R. Kelly. How did the relationship form from there? He’s a comedian; he’s hilarious!  He either likes you or he doesn’t. So thank God he liked me.  And we’ve been friends ever since. Were you nervous? Oh absolutely.  Because I had looked up to him for years, and I really wanted to be able to sing different topics.  And my label signed me as a female R.Kelly, because he topic I came in singing about was so off the wall.  So they were like, “Okay.  Now you can meet your idol.  And when you go in here, if he doesn’t like you, don’t get your feelings hurt.”  I was shaking.  But he was so … he was just cool.  The first thing he asked me when he saw me was, “Are you a stripper?” Let’s talk about “I Just Can’t Do This,” was this record a real life situation? I was having a bad relationship, as usual.  And I was just going through it.  R. Kelly called me late one night, because I had talked to him about what I was going through, and he was like, “Yo, I got this song about your situation; it’s a hit.”  That’s where the record came from and people still love it, because the record touched a lot of people. “How Many Times” — does it relate to “I Just Can’t Do This”? People think “HMT” is just about a no good man; it’s so much deeper than that.  When me and Sean sat down and talked about my life — if you listen to it, basically what I’m saying is how many times do I have to allow myself to go through the same sh*t.  Not just with a man, but just in life period, before I say, “It’s time to stop it” and find another way.  So it’s not just about how many times did a man do that. The album Pain Medicine — I love the title… Is this album going to be therapeutic for the ladies? Thank you!  This album is actually theraputic for everybody.  I’m shooting two videos next week.  Another song on the album is called “Today Just Ain’t My Day”; that’s not a gender based record.  it’s just basically a record saying what I’m going through and why I’m having a bad day.  This album is going to relate to everyone and their life issues.  I’d like to say the album is about life, not about men. Who will you be Collaborating with on the album? R.Kelly is on a banger. I’m trying to get Pink on the record as well. How do you feel about the current state of R&B? I don’t like how it’s difficult to get R&B played on the radio.  I don’t like the fact that R&B suffers a lot and fails.  But I do love the R&B artists that are out.  I absolutely love Jazmine Sullivan.  She embodies beautiful R&B.  I love Melanie Fiona.  I love Marsha.  I think there are some really gifted artists right now in R&B, and they excite me; they make me happy to be their peer.  And I’m happy with where R&B is, not the politics of R&B, but the actual music in R&B, I’m very happy with.
