Singer’s ‘GMA’ outburst may hinder his ability to gain new fans, experts say. By Jocelyn Vena Chris Brown Photo: Jason Kempin/ WireImage As details begin to bubble to the surface about Chris Brown’s “Good Morning America” outburst, fans and the media are wondering if he ruined his chances at the musical comeback he’d planned to have with the release of F.A.M.E. on Tuesday . “Of all the places not to have a public meltdown!” Popeater.com correspondent Rob Shuter told MTV News about the chair-throwing fit he reportedly threw after “GMA” host Robin Roberts brought up his 2009 assault of Rihanna . “It shows you his level of arrogance and stupidity. He has proved he has temper tantrums and is a violent person, which is exactly what we were talking when he hit Rihanna. What he did yesterday confirmed what an out of control fellow he is.” Ian Drew, senior music editor at Us Weekly, thinks that this will certainly have an effect on his album sales. “I definitely think this is a huge step back for him,” he said. “It was a huge mistake. You control how you react. He didn’t react the right way. He showed in one breath that he still has a huge temper and he can’t control himself. He just ruined everything he had built up again. He chose to act up that way and now he’ll bear the repercussions.” So what’s next? “I think the fans that stuck with him through Rihanna will stick with him through this,” Shuter said. “What isn’t going to happen is he’s not going to be able to grow his fanbase. … I think you say sorry and put out good work. You can come back. He has to apologize now. He has to be an angel, I think. Now, for the rest of his life, he has to be careful. He is young, but he’s had every advantage, and I think that’s what makes people angry: To have all these advantages and still mess it up is very hard to forgive.” “Good Morning America” has asked the star to appear on the show again, but Drew believes that instead, Brown should take a rest from his promotional plans. As of press time, Brown hadn’t accepted the show’s offer to appear again. “There’s always a way back, anyone can. My advice to him would be: Just don’t do any interviews and put out a strong record and let it speak for itself,” Drew said. “Let the music do the talking. From “Cleopatra” to “Cat on a Hot Tin Roof,” the English-born actress captivated with her onscreen intensity and beauty, even as her chaotic off-screen love life became a staple of tabloid coverage. With Taylor’s passing on Wednesday (March 23) at the age of 79, the world has lost not only a great movie siren, but also a towering pop-culture figure whose influence ran well beyond her acting to philanthropy, fashion and American mores. Since her early days as an actress, Taylor had a striking look that became a model for women in the 1960s. Her pale, pearl-colored lipstick and heavily lined eyes became a style template for aspiring starlets and housewives alike, and the signature white chiffon cocktail dress she wore in “Cat on a Hot Tin Roof” opposite Paul Newman became a best-seller for designer Helen Rose. On Thursday at Riff Raff, an onlooker says LiLo was “with a girlfriend, clutching onto her signature can of Red Bull. She was definitely in a partying mood.” Also Thursday, LiLo hit up SL and 1Oak where a clubgoer says Lohan wasn’t drinking, but “was in a great mood having a good time with friends, dancing.” Adds the clubgoer: “She was under a microscope because people were waiting to see if she was going to drink, but she didn’t.” Yeah! You show ’em girl! An insider at one of Lohan’s other stops says the actress was back to her old ways , however, and that it’s only a matter of time before trouble follows. “Saturday night at Beauty & Essex, Lindsay was with her brother and sister,” the source says. “She was ordering and drinking cocktails, texting nonstop.” She was also “taking pictures and acting a little crazy.” Drinking or not (Lindsay says she doesn’t drink, period , but no one can really believe what she says), can she get in legal trouble for her nightlife antics? It’s a gray area for sure. A prosecutor could very well collect evidence that Lohan’s been frequenting these places as grounds for a probation violation. On the flip side, the definition of a place where alcohol is the chief item of sale is sometimes murky, especially if the establishment is also a restaurant. U2 and Bon Jovi will also be featured on digital-only album from Universal Music. On Monday (March 21), it was announced that Universal Music is rushing out a digital-only compilation album to raise awareness and funds for those affected by the 9.0-magnitude earthquake and tsunami that struck Japan. While the lineup and track list have yet to be finalized, other chart-toppers expected to be featured on the release include U2 and Bon Jovi. Lady Gaga may also appear on the album. Proceeds from sales will go to the Japanese Red Cross. “We are doing it only digitally because it is faster, and this will be a worldwide release. The plan is to have it available later this week,” a spokesperson for Universal Music said. In order to maximize proceeds, the record label plans to find more acts willing to waive royalties that would have come from having their tracks appear on the compilation. Universal Music is not the only music-industry player reaching to support Japan disaster relief. Most recently, the Black Eyed Peas announced that the music video for their tune “Just Can’t Get Enough” would be used to promote awareness and funds for victims of the tragic event. The clip, which was shot in Japan one week before the earthquake and tsunami hit, finds the BEP bandmates traveling throughout Toyko. Earlier this month, Lady Gaga designed a special prayer bracelet with all proceeds going to relief efforts. In just two days, the pop singer and her legion of little monsters raised more than $250,000. Chris Brown , all rubbery limbs and sporting a Mars Blackmon-inspired bicycle cap, shows off some fleet-footed footwork in his new “Look at Me Now” video. With looks from Young Money captain Lil Wayne and a fire-breathing Busta Rhymes, a pile of ’90s-era baggy sweats and tees, a series of ferocious dance battles, as well as an ode to those classic Nike/Jordan spots, the dizzying clip leaves you breathless. And that’s exactly how Chris wanted it. ” ‘Look at Me Now’ is kind of like my first rap, rap video,” Chris laughed when he sat down with MTV News on Friday. “I wanted to do like old school, not really old school but, like, back-in-the-day [style].” Back in the day, for the 21-year-old, meant reviving 1990s staples like “big baggy clothes” and “a lot of art, graffiti.” “I tried to blend all of those components into one and make it fun and exciting,” he told us. With the song’s swirling production (courtesy of Diplo and Jean Baptiste) setting the breakneck pace, the Collin Tilley-directed video for “Look at Me Now” lets C.Breezy showcase his inner-MC — Brown instructs his doubters to “say hi” to a section of his anatomy some fans may now be all too familiar with — but it also lets him play with his budding Renaissance Man thing, capturing Chris as crooner, dancer and artist. In several hilarious frames, the FA.M.E. singer turns up cheesing in the horn-rimmed glasses and baseball jersey that were the signature of director Spike Lee’s Mars Blackmon creation, a bespectacled superfan who hawked Jordans in the early-’90s for Nike. In those vintage ads, Mars set out to decode just what made baller Michael Jordan “the best player in the universe” — eventually ruling out the extra-long shorts, the haircut, etc., and zeroing in one element: “it’s gotta be the shoes.” “I kind of did the Mars Blackmon outfit with the Brooklyn [hat] and the whole [outfit], I always was a fan of that and that was always fresh to me when I saw Spike Lee with Jordan,” Chris explained. “So I was like, man, i’mma do that outfit just to pay tribute to him.” Of course, Chris didn’t pull off his first official hip-hop vid on his own. Assists from Lil Tunechi and Busta give the visual added heft. And Brown said the song, like the video, works because the collabos are organic. (Weezy’s a longtime collaborator and Busta’s rapid-fire flow feels tailor-made for the track.) “Working with Wayne is always incredible. I’ve had Wayne on every single album I’ve done,” he added. “Being able to work with these guys is incredible,” he said of Bus and Wayne. “I think I build most of my collaborations off of the relationships that I built with these guys over the years.” Chris’ new album, FA.M.E., drops on Tuesday.
