Matt Damon And Michael Douglas Mapped Out Their ‘Behind The Candelabra’ Love Scenes Like Football Plays

Matt Damon says Michael Douglas is a “wonderful” kisser. He also tells Playboy magazine that he and the veteran actor strategized their onscreen make-out sessions for Steven Soderbergh’ s Liberace movie for HBO, Behind The Candelabra , “like a football plan,” which scarily brings to mind John Madden and Al Michaels cavorting in Speedos while diagramming a play-action pass.  The Promised Land actor tells interviewer Stephen Rebello that he usually says no to nude scenes, “but I just did a lot of it playing the long-term partner of Liberace, Scott Thorson in Behind the Candelabra .”  He took the plunge, he explains, because Soderbergh, who directed Damon on the Oceans films and The Informant! was behind the camera and the scenes in question were “tastefully done.” And, really, who could resist being held firmly in the masculine arms of the silver-maned actor who played Gordon Gekko ? Damon, who plays the much younger lover of the flamboyant piano showman — the Norman Jean Roy photograph above, which appeared in Vanity Fair, shows them in character — says the movie will make some people uncomfortable because “you’re witnessing something really intimate you would normally see with a man and a woman, but instead it’s two men”. He, on the other hand, found the dynamic “thrilling” even though some of the more intimate scenes weren’t “the most natural thing in the world to do, though. Like, for one scene, I had to come out of a pool, go over to Michael, straddle him on a chaise longue and start kissing him. And throughout the script, it’s not like I kiss him just once. We drew it up like a football plan.” At least he didn’t make a pitcher/catcher reference. Damon goes on to say that he once asked the late Heath Ledger  how he managed the scene with Jake Gyllenhaal in Brokeback Mountain where to two men hungrily suck face.  Ledger’s response: “Well, mate, I drank half a case of beer in my trailer.”  Damon add that when he laughed at that response, Ledger told him: “No, I’m serious. I needed to just go for it. If you can’t do that, you’re not making the movie.” The conversation leads Rebello to ask Damon what it was like “when you and Ben Affleck were constantly asked if you were gay, back when you were starting your careers” “I never denied those rumors because I was offended and didn’t want to offend my friends who were gay—as if being gay were some kind of fucking disease,” Damon responds. “It put me in a weird position in that sense. The whole thing was just gross.” [ Playboy ] Follow Frank DiGiacomo on Twitter.  Follow Movieline on Twitter.

Bret Easton Ellis Is The Patrick Bateman Of Film Criticism

If American Psycho ‘s Patrick Bateman were a film critic, he’d be Bret Easton Ellis. When he’s not promoting his film The Canyons    — directed by Paul Schrader and starring Lindsay Lohan — on Twitter, Ellis has been blowing shotgun-sized holes in some of the awards season’s biggest films.  The Less Than Zero author contends that  Zero Dark Thirty  director Kathryn Bigelow is “really overrated,” and Les Misérables   makes him miserable. (According to him, it’s an “incomprehensible mess.” )    Life of Pi   fares better, though Ellis would like to see that film’s young star Suraj Sharma get into porn.  Oh yeah, and he also claims that the Academy “hates” The Dark Knight Rises . Below, a sampling of Ellis’ critical stylings, not necessarily in chronological order: Zero Dark Thirty: Kathryn Bigelow would be considered a mildly interesting filmmaker if she was a man but since she's a very hot woman she's really overrated.— Bret Easton Ellis (@BretEastonEllis) December 06, 2012 Kathryn Bigelow: Strange Days, K-19 The Widowmaker, Blue Steel, The Hurt Locker. Are we talking about visionary filmmaking or just OK junk?— Bret Easton Ellis (@BretEastonEllis) December 06, 2012 Silver Linings Playbook: “Zero Dark Thirty” might win critics awards but “Silver Linings Playbook” will win the Best Picture Oscar. This is how it always happens…— Bret Easton Ellis (@BretEastonEllis) December 06, 2012 Les Misérables: The film version of “Les Miserables” is so bad that it made me rethink why I ever loved the stage version. 2 hours and 40 minutes of tacky.— Bret Easton Ellis (@BretEastonEllis) December 05, 2012 The one actor surviving the incomprehensible mess “Les Miserables” is Eddie Redmayne, who should get an award for avoiding humiliation…— Bret Easton Ellis (@BretEastonEllis) December 05, 2012 Tom Hooper blows just about every song in “Les Miserables” including “On My Own” which I didn't think possible no matter who directed it…— Bret Easton Ellis (@BretEastonEllis) December 05, 2012 Oh yeah and I forgot: “Les Miserables” opens on Christmas Day and (spoiler alert!) just about everyone in it dies. Merry fucking Christmas.— Bret Easton Ellis (@BretEastonEllis) December 05, 2012 Life of Pi: Life of Pi is the movie I've thought about the most in 2012. As a writer I can't reconcile with its disturbing reveal: illusion vs. reality?— Bret Easton Ellis (@BretEastonEllis) December 04, 2012 Suraj Sharma gives an amazing and incredibly moving performance in “Life of Pi” and seriously needs to do some porn. Misspelling: my fault.— Bret Easton Ellis (@BretEastonEllis) December 04, 2012 Killing Them Softly Based on the terrific source material “Killing Them Softly” doesn't work at all, but the actor Scoot McNairy is now officially on the radar.— Bret Easton Ellis (@BretEastonEllis) December 04, 2012 “Killing Them Softly” starring Brad Pitt is one of only eight films in Cinemascore's history to receive an “F” grade but…”Troy” didn't?!?— Bret Easton Ellis (@BretEastonEllis) December 04, 2012 How the Academy will vote: The Academy is going to go for Silver Linings Playbook and not Lincoln.— Bret Easton Ellis (@BretEastonEllis) December 03, 2012 The Academy hates The Dark Knight Rises because I sat in that theater that night and listened to the banter in the lobby afterwards.— Bret Easton Ellis (@BretEastonEllis) December 03, 2012 There's not a chance in hell that Ang Lee will win best director. That will be a fight between Ben Affleck and David O. Russell. Haneke? No.— Bret Easton Ellis (@BretEastonEllis) December 03, 2012 I’m not sure if Ellis’ most recent tweet is a reaction to reaction to his withering perspective, but, as you might expect, he’s unrepentant: Anyone Unfollowing me should have known better and never Followed me in the first place. Wise up: pussies and snowflakes. Get the F over it.— Bret Easton Ellis (@BretEastonEllis) December 06, 2012 Watch your back, Sandy Kenyon. Follow Frank DiGiacomo on Twitter. Emile Hirsch Caught Peeing On A Cactus

Doesn’t Emile Hirsch know that you don’t need to water a cactus? Apparently not, as the young star was caught urinating on a potted cactus outside of Hollywood Hotspot Bootsy Bellows. Hirsch wasn’t feeling too shy as he whipped out his err – equipment in front of exiting patrons. It’s safe to say that given the late hours and red solo cup on the ground, it’s probable there were some libations involved. Head over to E! Online for the exclusive pic! Hirsch had a small role in the 2012 thrilled  Savages and is next up in a Twice Born and  The Motel Life.

Kim Kardashian Teases Temptation Poster

Kim Kardashian’s new movie (yes, movie) has an official poster. The reality show and sex tape star is headed for the silver screen, and just posted the first movie poster for Tyler Perry’s Temptation: Confessions of a Marriage Counselor . Check out the tantalizing tease below … The poster isn’t much to write home about visually, but symbolically is a different story. Note the black snake in the shape of an apple and a woman’s profile. Woman, apple, temptation? There’s something there, people. We have no idea how anyone hires Kim Kardashian to be in a major motion picture (in theaters March 29, 2013!!!), but there is definitely something there. The film also stars Jurnee Smollett-Bell, Lance Gross, Vanessa Williams, Brandy Norwood and Robbie Jones, and is written and directed by Perry, obviously. It’s about “a woman who starts to get restless in her relationship and her choice to be with another man has a huge effect on the rest of her life.” Excited for Special K’s Tyler Perry movie debut ?   Yes! It actually sounds pretty good! Yes, if Ray J makes a naked cameo… Not even at gunpoint. View Poll »

WATCH: ‘Lone Ranger’ Trailer Teases Depp’s Tonto, Lone Ranger Not So Much

Disney’s first trailer for the big budget Wild West spectacle The Lone Ranger has everything but, y’know, the Lone Ranger himself — Armie Hammer , who’s glimpsed here and there amid director Gore Verbinski’s bright, sweeping vistas, but certainly isn’t the center of attention. Based on this you’d think The Lone Ranger is about horses, runaway trains, slo-mo shoot-outs, and Johnny Depp as a painted face, bird-on-head, perpetually grimacing Tonto . Which, let’s be honest, is why this movie exists in the first place. Depp’s sage (and apparently humorless) Tonto penetrates the iconic Western landscape like a punchline, delivering an accented line: “There come a time, kemosabe, when good man must wear mask.” I’m sure his is a culturally-sensitive and realistic portrayal of Native American heroism. This should make for some very interesting Independence Day ’13 viewing. Meanwhile, let’s see some more Hammer, Disney! Otherwise it’s The Tonto Show , which, who am I kidding, I’d watch anyway. The Lone Ranger hits theaters July 3, 2013. Synopsis: From producer Jerry Bruckheimer and director Gore Verbinski, the filmmaking team behind the blockbuster “Pirates of the Caribbean” franchise, comes Disney/Jerry Bruckheimer Films’ “The Lone Ranger,” a thrilling adventure infused with action and humor, in which the famed masked hero is brought to life through new eyes. Native American spirit warrior Tonto (Johnny Depp) recounts the untold tales that transformed John Reid (Armie Hammer), a man of the law, into a legend of justice—taking the audience on a runaway train of epic surprises and humorous friction as the two unlikely heroes must learn to work together and fight against greed and corruption. Verdict: Hi-ho, Silver, away…
