Which was Paula Abdul’s Better Option: Got to Dance or X-Factor?

Paula Abdul’s new gig as lead judge on CBS’ s upcoming series Got to Dance is… happy? Grim? An opportunity for the 47-year-old singer to bring back her oversize blazers and leggings? Not so bad? Whatever it is, it’s not a Simon Cowell production, and that makes us fearful for next year’s smattering of reality competitions. I certainly figured that Paula would join Simon on the American version of his hit X-Factor . But could it be that Paula Abdul’s smartest move is detaching from all American Idol associations for good?

Simon Cowell Says He’s Bored in American Idol

Famous for his blatant comments and criticisms, Simon Cowell speaks his mind why he is s leaving American Idol. Simon, an British music executive, television producer and entrepreneur, said he was bored in Idol. During an interview with Oprah Winfrey’s Show last Thursday, he candidly expressed his feelings. “After awhile, you start to go on automatic pilot,” blunt Idol Judge  told Winfrey. “And there were too many times, Oprah, where I was sitting there bored, and I thought, ‘[At] the end of the day, the audience doesn’t tune in to watch me being bored. They deserve more than that. But I can’t hide it when I’m bored. I just can’t fake it.’ “ Cowell also said the pressure of the show has taken a toll on him. “Maybe it’s the draining effect when you have a lot of people who depend on you … And you just become aware that a lot of people depend on you, rely on you, or you’re not giving people the time you should be giving them,” he said. “It’s almost like a guilt thing. And that does drain me.” Cowell will be working on another singing reality show ‘X Factor’. “It’s different because there’s no upper age limit … Singing groups can enter the show,” he said. “I have no idea whether it’s going to work or not, but I’ll put its success and failure on whether we can find a star.” Despite his boredom with Idol, Cowell told Winfrey he hasn’t lost the desire to be part of the reality show action. “I actually like doing it, funny enough,” he said. “I like the buzz it creates. You want to be part of something people are talking about. I love that feeling.” Simon Cowell Says He’s Bored in American Idol is a post from: Daily World Buzz Continue reading

Simon Cowell, Lies, Calls Idol ‘Perfect’

Simon Cowell appeared on Oprah today and, after touting the American version of X-Factor , he laughed off Oprah’s question about the state of American Idol . “I’m not gonna say anything,” he said. “Wouldn’t change a thing. Everything’s perfect.” As for who should replace him, Cowell said something vague that could be taken as a swipe at Ellen Degeneres: “I think primarily, you’ve got to have somebody on that panel who actually knows what they’re talking about.” Not Justin Bieber, in other words? Sorry, Seacrest . [ Zap2It ]

Bret Michaels Back In The Hospital

A test finds a hole in the singer’s heart. By Kara Warner Bret Michaels Photo: Harpo Fresh from a healthier-looking appearance on “The Oprah Winfrey Show” following his hospitalization for treatment of a brain hemorrhage last month, rocker Bret Michaels is back in the hospital after complaining of numbness on the left side of his body in his face and hands. According to Michaels’ website , doctors described the symptoms as a Transient Ischemic Attack or warning stroke. While performing MRI and CT scans, doctors conducted ultrasound tests looking for blood clots — specifically an Ultrasound Bubble Test of his heart — which proved positive for a Patent Forum Ovale, or a hole in his heart. Michaels’ neurosurgeon is quoted on the site: “There is no doubt that the positive Patent Foramen Ovale (PFO) is devastating news to Bret and his family. The good news is that it is operable and treatable and we think we may have diagnosed the problem that caused the Transient Ischemic Attach (TIA) or warning stroke; however we feel it is highly unlikely this is connected to the brain hemorrhage he suffered just a few weeks earlier. Once again it is great that he quickly reacted to the severe numbness and got to the hospital immediately. “I realize Bret wants to make a full recovery so that he can be active with his family, attempt to attend the finale of ‘Celebrity Apprentice’ and especially get back on the road to continue making music,” Dr. Zabramski continued. “Without a doubt he is very determined to get healthy and make a 100% recovery. Medically speaking it is a fantastic attitude both mentally and physically for him to have. However, Bret’s brain and body are not quite 100% yet, especially with the hole found in his heart. Further tests will be conducted throughout the week and I will have more information next week as to how this Patent Foramen Ovale (PFO) will be treated. For now, Bret will be treated with outpatient care, which includes a daily injection of Lovenox (a blood thinner to reduce the chance of blood clots) and blood tests.” Michaels’ rep, Janna Elias, added the following statement on Bret’s behalf: “Bret wants everyone to know he cannot thank you enough for all of the well-wishes, prayers and good vibes you have sent his way. Even though these last few months have been tough on him and his family, especially this most recent setback, he is in good spirits, great medical hands and is positive and hopeful that everything is going to be OK. He is up, walking, talking, continuing his daily rehab and very happy to be alive, but he has made it clear he is sick and tired of being in the hospital and is ready to rock again.” It was unclear what day Michaels entered the hospital or whether this latest setback will affect his scheduled “Celebrity Apprentice” appearance on Sunday. Simon Cowell Tells Oprah His ‘Time’s Up’ On ‘American Idol’

Judge also says he ‘hated’ his reaction to Susan Boyle’s appearance on ‘Britain’s Got Talent.’ By Kara Warner Simon Cowell on “The Oprah Winfrey Show” Photo: Harpo The end of “American Idol” season nine next week will also bring the departure of controversial-yet-adored judge Simon Cowell . The Brit appeared on Thursday’s (May 20) “Oprah Winfrey Show” to discuss his reasons for leaving, whether he’ll miss the show and why he’s starting a new, seemingly similar show. Oprah started the interview by asking Cowell point-blank why he’s leaving “Idol.” “Time’s up,” he answered. “It feels like the right thing to do.” The often sharp-tongued Brit said part of the reason behind his departure is due to boredom. “After a while, you start to go on automatic pilot. Too many times I was sitting there [at the judges’ table] bored. The audience deserves more than that … and I can’t hide when I’m bored.” To combat that boredom, Cowell said he’s launching a U.S. version of his “X Factor” talent show that, although similar to “Idol,” will have several differences. “It’s different because there’s no upper age limit. … Singing groups can enter the show,” he explained. “I have no idea whether it’s going to work or not, but I’ll put its success and failure on whether we can find a star.” Oprah then asked if Cowell is bored on “Idol” now why he would move on to yet another talent show. “I actually like doing it, funny enough,” he said. “I remember Fantasia singing ‘Summertime,’ and for three minutes, I lost myself. I like the buzz it creates. You want to be part of something people are talking about. I love that feeling.” While recalling some of his favorite contestants (Carrie Underwood and Fantasia) Cowell readily admitted that his “big ego” often gets in his way — particularly with the case of Susan Boyle’s now-famous audition on “Britain’s Got Talent” “On the day [of her audition], I was in such a bad mood, I didn’t want to be there, I never thought we’d find anyone good,” he remembered. “When I watched the clip back, I actually hated myself. We’re all sneering, we’re not listening. I didn’t like what I saw. It was a wake-up call, and I was happy she made us look stupid, because we deserved it.” Yet all in all, and given his track record (and reported $1 billion net worth from his various productions), Cowell said he’s confident he can still find undiscovered talent: “I do trust my judgment as somebody who can spot a potential star.” Regarding his impending “Idol” departure, Cowell said he expects his last night on the ratings juggernaut to be poignant. “The final night will be quite emotional,” he told Oprah. “I’ve had a great time. I love working over here [in the U.S.] and never thought I would.” What did you think of Cowell’s interview? Let us know in the comments! In Memoriam: American Idol’s Casey James

I’m sad. Sure. But I also want to hold up my old Illinois driver’s license with Norma Rae grit and proclaim, “Take that, American South!” For only the second time in American Idol ‘s history, its Final Two has no connections to the dusty south. That’s not good or bad, but it’s a welcome change of pace. (No offense to Kris Allen — I voted for you, tender dawg!) Now, to attend to the business at hand: Our deceased pony Casey James enjoyed a resilient run, establishing himself as season nine’s resident dark horse . His proudest moments involved simple ballads, sincerity, and keeping his shirt on. Let’s reflect on the Cool, Texas, native’s curvy, paisley-print journey on American Idol and guess what might’ve been had he made the finale.

Lee DeWyze threw down the real gauntlet, according to Randy Jackson. His rendition of “Hallelujah” was simply stunning, said Ellen DeGeneres. Perez Hilton Says He’d Replace Simon Cowell On ‘American Idol’ For Free

‘I’m not even joking, I would work for free the first season,’ the gossip gangster tells MTV News about his desire to join ‘American Idol.’ By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Matt Elias Perez Hilton Photo: MTV News Perez Hilton hasn’t been shy about his desire to come onboard as Simon Cowell’s replacement on “American Idol” next season. And he’s got one sound business idea that may get the “Idol” producers to warm up to the idea. “My name has been mentioned several times as a possible replacement for Simon Cowell … mainly by me,” he joked. “I’ve shamelessly been campaigning for the job and I am adamant and I believe I would do a great job. Plus, I’m not even joking, I would work for free the first season. After that, then we can talk about a fair paycheck.” And while he admittedly hasn’t been watching the show this season, he did pass some judgments on front-runner Crystal Bowersox . “Everyone is saying that Crystal girl is going to win. If she does, I don’t know if she’s going to really resonate with album buyers after she wins,” he explained. “And I don’t know what kind of music she would make, and I don’t know if they would play that on the radio.” “Idol” producers better act fast if they want Perez to come onboard permanently, as he may have other job opportunities lined up. Perez said that if he doesn’t become the new Simon, he’d just as happily work for Simon. “I’m not that selective though,” he said. “I would just as happily appear on Simon Cowell’s ‘X Factor’ as I would on ‘American Idol.’ ” Do you think Perez Hilton should replace Simon Cowell on “Idol”?
