Even if Crystal Bowersox ranks among American Idol ‘s finest talents (and I believe she does), something’s rotten in the state of Seacrest this year. Last season, Idol rejuvenated itself with a blend of personalities — from subtle craftsman Kris Allen to sparkle sorcerer Adam Lambert. This season’s Idol cast is dogged by a number of distracting elements — and worst, the Idol -consuming populace is confused over the true culprits in this fiasco. Thus, we’re ranking the five biggest contributors to Idol ‘s weakest year. Hopefully number one will start to garner the skewering it deserves. Daggers ready!

Adam Lambert Predicts Crystal Bowersox Will Win ‘American Idol’

By Eric Ditzian, with reporting by Matt Elias Adam Lambert Photo: MTV News Back in April, after a mentoring gig on “American Idol” had people buzzing that he should replace Simon Cowell behind the judges’ table next season, Adam Lambert revealed to MTV News which contestants he thought the most promising: Crystal Bowersox, Casey James, Lee DeWyze and Michael Lynche. [T]hose four really stand out as authentic, pure, amazing vocals,” Lambert said at the time. A month later, with Big Mike now out of the picture and Bowersox, James and DeWyze comprising this season’s top three, Lambert has come out in support of Bowersox to win the competition. “If I had to pick one out of those three, I’d probably lean more toward Crystal at this point,” he told us. “I like her anti-establishment rebelliousness.” In that choice, he’s echoing the consensus opinion that this season is Bowersox’s to lose. But, in fact, Lambert hasn’t had a chance to see what’s been going down on “Idol” in recent weeks. After a short, Icelandic volcano-induced delay in his travel plans, the season eight runner-up jetted off to Europe, where he performed in England, Holland and Finland. “I’ve been gone,” he said. “I haven’t been able to watch it.” Though he singled out MamaSox for special recognition, Lambert made sure to pay respects to all the remaining contestants, who face off again on Tuesday night (May 18), after enjoying hometown visits late last week. “All three of them are excellent singers,” he said. “They’re all really organic and kind of authentic in what they do. Idol Castoff Alex Lambert Helps Fuel Anti-Bowersox Trend

Last night’s Young Hollywood Awards put a spotlight on several glamorous vampires, including the Twilight pixies and the cast of The Vampire Diaries , but the most sinister quote of the evening came from a kid who’s not known for being a bloodsucker. Alex Lambert (who capitalized on his regrettably early American Idol elimination by moving into Simon Fuller’s If I Can Dream web series house) seized the opportunity to cast shade on Crystal Bowersox, who seems to be losing her once-massive edge on Lee DeWyze. Lambert must’ve left his diplomacy in his other mullet.

In Memoriam: American Idol’s Michael Lynche

The American Idol audience is getting a hold on this “Vote out the right contestant, please” idea. Two weeks in a row, we’ve watched the correct troubadour saunter back to an awaiting womb — last week jiving fetus Aaron Kelly crawled back into the one he calls home, and and this week Michael Lynche was forced to acknowledge his wife and their newborn. Tough luck. After the jump, we reflect on Michael Lynche’s legacy with a fast funeral where Kara DioGuardi’s tears don’t seem as embarrassing.

Simon Cowell Denies Lavish Wedding Plans

Simon Cowell has hit out at reports that he and fiancé Mezhgan Hussainy will have four lavish wedding ceremonies . “In spite of various people claiming to be making arrangements for our wedding, no such plans exist.” Previously it had been rumored that the American Idol judge and his make-up artist fiancé would wed in the US, the UK and the Caribbean. “When Mezhgan and myself decide the time is right, we will make our own plans.” T he Daily Mail reports Cowell as saying. Whatever, his wedding is still going to be pretty freaking insane.

As he tours Europe, promotes his debut album and entertains fans at night clubs , Adam Lambert is also taking time to answer questions from reporters. In a recent interview , for example, the singer touched on taking over Simon Cowell, working with recording legends and falling in love. A few excerpts… On judging American Idol : “I keep hearing the rumor. Unfortunately, it’s just a rumor. I would be honored to be asked – but I think at this point I’m just focusing on my career as a recording artist.” On dream duets : “To be able to work with David Bowie would be amazing, his imagination and creativity are beyond – he’s an icon. “I’d also like to sing with Christina Aguilera – I love her voice, I’ve been a fan since she came out and I think we would throw down and we would be loud. “I would love to work with Rihanna – she is so down to earth and sweet and kind and friendly. Her tunes are so catchy and visually she is just giving you beauty.” On his biggest fear : “I have a fear of being alone – not being alone by myself, but I want to fall in love, and grow old with somebody and I just sometimes get scared that it’s not going to happen.” Just keep being yourself, Adam. Trust us. It will happen.
