Mezhgan Hussainy Responsible for "Complete Turnaround" in Simon Cowell, Mother Says

Based on comments last week, it appears as though Simon Cowell has a soft spot in his heart for this season’s female contestants. He’s hinted that he hopes Didi Benami, Crystal Bowersox or another woman is crowned the next American Idol. But there’s another female that’s truly won over Simon’s heart: Mezhgan Hussainy . Cowell has referred to the make-up artist as “special,” while his mother has now gone on record about her son’s burgeoning relationship. In a new interview, Julie Cowell relays a conversation she had with Simon soon after he asked Hussainy to move in with him. “What baffled me most was the complete turnaround in my son. He has always insisted, ‘I’m fine as I am, mother. I’m not going to get committed to a marriage and I certainly don’t want children.’ I used to reply, ‘You don’t know, you’ve never had them.'” Julie adds that “Mezhgan is absolutely lovely” and that she can’t believe the state of bliss in which her son finds himself. “He looks exceptionally happy and there is such a glow about him,” Julie said . “I thought, my goodness me, he’s had to reach 50 to reach this stage. I think turning 50 has made him reassess his life. “Now I really think marriage and fatherhood for Simon are going to happen. I would like to see an official engagement, a marriage and yes, then grandchildren. Mezghan is very family orientated, so she is ideal for him.”

Fake Your Way Through It: American Idol

What started out as a gong-less gong show is now one of the most talked about shows on TV and one you should be able to converse fluently on.

Chris Golightly’s ‘American Idol’ Exit Is A ‘Shame,’ Simon Cowell Says

‘He needed this opportunity,’ judge says of the disqualified contestant. By Katie Byrne Simon Cowell Photo: Gustavo Caballero/ Getty Images “American Idol” fans remember Chris Golightly ‘s initial audition fondly, thanks to his volatile upbringing and silky-smooth vocals. Simon Cowell also recalls that tryout — but not for the same reasons. “I remember Chris’ first audition very well, because Kara was completely and utterly besotted with him,” the outgoing “Idol” judge laughed while talking to reporters Thursday (February 18). “I wasn’t quite so keen on him. And then the second and third time we saw him in Hollywood Week, he wasn’t as strong as he was on his first audition.” We all know by now that the judges were keen enough on Golightly to send him through to the top 24 this season, only to be replaced by Tim Urban in the 11th hour. A contract misunderstanding is at the center of his dismissal, but Cowell claims to not know a thing about that end of things. “I really, honestly don’t have a clue why he’s been removed from the competition,” Cowell said. “I’m guessing it’s some sort of technical reason.” What Cowell does know is that the down-on-his-luck singer really could have used the break. “It’s a shame for him,” he said. “He needed this opportunity.” Now that Cowell is on his way out, he might be able to help the Justin Guarini hair-alike by landing him a new gig. What would Cowell think about giving Golightly another shot on “The X Factor,” when the American version debuts in fall 2011? “Well, I’ve gotta find out what the reason [for his disqualification] is first!” Cowell laughed. “If it was something like a technical reason, yeah, of course he could.” Get your “Idol” fix on MTV News’ “American Idol” page , where you’ll find all the latest news, interviews and opinions. Seven in Heaven: American Idol Names Semifinalists

Following a two-hour episode of American Idol that dragged on for longer than most installments of The Bachelor , the judges finally selected seven of the season’s final 24 contestants. The rest will be chosen tonight and then all these semifinalists will perform live from Hollywood, starting next week. Can you feel the excitement? The singers that received good news last night were: Michael Lynche : Ryan loves to refer to him as “Big Mike.” We saw snippets of his “I’m Yours” auditions and the nice, laid back guy just became a father for the first time. Didi Benami : Probably our favorite so far. This 23-year old is full of emotion, as she auditioned for the show in the wake of her best friend’s death. Sang “Angel” during one of the Hollywood rounds. Casey James : Took his shirt of during his original try out, but is better remembered for almost losing the use of his hands in a motorcycle accident. He’s 28 years old and a country artist. Aaron Kelly : Just 16 years old, was adopted by his aunt and uncle. He won the “American Idol Experience” at DisneyWorld a few years ago. Lee Dewyze : Released an album in 2009, not given a lot of time so far on the show. At 23, Simon Cowell questions his confidence. Todrick Hall : Appeared in The Color Purple on Broadway. The 24-year old has performed on cruise ships and in theme parks. Katelyn Epperly : Sings lead vocals in a folk rock band. The 19-year old hails from Iowa. Which of these contestants do you think has the most potential to be named the next American Idol ? Our money would be on Benami or Hall.

Where Are The ‘American Idol’ Coke Cups?

Fear not, ‘Idol’ fans: The Vitaminwater Zero cups are temporary; Coca-Cola will be back. By Dana Kasser, with additional reporting by MTV News staff Randy Jackson, Victoria Beckham, Kara DioGuardi and Simon Cowell Photo: Michael Becker / FOX On “American Idol” Tuesday night, new judge Ellen DeGeneres wasn’t the only change on the screen. In a highly effective bit of product placement, the large Coca-Cola cups have been as much of a fixture on the show as Randy Jackson saying “Dawg!” But thousands of viewers did a double take on Tuesday night when they saw Jackson, Simon Cowell, Kara DioGuardi and DeGeneres sipping from orange-and-white Vitaminwater Zero cups. While the change isn’t really that remarkable, it still felt oddly jarring to many viewers of the show. DioGuardi was even asked about the switch during a conference call with reporters on Wednesday (February 10). “They were kind of colorful, different,” she laughed about the new cups. “Everything’s always changing on the show. I kind of just drink from the cup and assume there isn’t poison in it.” Vitaminwater does belong to the Coca-Cola family, so it’s not like there was a major sponsorship change, and a rep for the show told MTV News on Wednesday that the switch is just a temporary one. “The Coca-Cola cups have been a staple on American Idol since 2002 and will not be gone for long,” the rep said in a statement. “During the Hollywood Week episodes, Coca-Cola will share the mic with Vitaminwater Zero (a Coca Cola brand), but the Coke cups will return on the first live show on Tuesday, Feb. 23.” Get your “Idol” fix on MTV News’ “American Idol” page , where you’ll find all the latest news, interviews and opinions.
