Critics were shocked that Jennifer Lopez was chosen to lead the Motown tribute at the 61st annual Grammy Awards , but the singer was not having it. The moment J. Lo finished her set, she went backstage to defend her performance by sharing her personal connection to Motown in an interview with Entertainment Tonight. “It was for my mom. I could cry. It’s such a good moment. It’s just a dream come true,” the singer told ET. She gets emotional as she explains her childhood and the role Motown played, thanks to her mother who was a huge fan. “Singing up there with Smokey Robinson, like I gotta pinch myself,” she said. “I grew up on all those songs, and because my mom loved him so much, she passed it on to us.” “The thing about music is that it inspires all,” she continued. “Any type of music can inspire any type of artist.” “You can’t tell people what to love. You can’t tell people what they can and can’t do, what they should sing or not sing. You gotta do what’s in your heart,” she told ET. And while some unsupportive fans are outraged that a Latin-infused pop icon would agree to do a tribute to a famously black label featuring black artists, J. Lo told ET that Grammy producers and Berry Gordy were “thrilled” with her involvement in the tribute. “They know how much I have been influenced by that music, and so it was a natural fit for them,” she said. “But for some people, it wasn’t and that’s okay. I’m just very humbled and honored to be able to have sung those songs.” And if Smokey Robinson, the literal frontman and founder of Motown can agree to share the stage with the 49-year-old latino singer, how can anyone really be that upset? It is Smokey freaking Robinson. When it was first announced that Lopez would be singing the Motown tribute, Robinson quickly rushed to her defense . “I don’t think anyone who is intelligent is upset. I think anyone who is upset is stupid,” the Motown legend told Variety . But Twitter seems to think they could have done a better job at selecting an artist to represent the house of soul. And it doesn’t involve a pop singer who wears a leotard on stage, unfortunately. “J. Lo better not salsa her way to the cookout because she is uninvited for that terrible performance,” tweeted Jared Sawyer Jr. on Sunday. “How can you do a Motown tribute without an ALL BLACK cast of artists?! And it’s black history month too.” Sawyer then suggested that Knight, Stevie Wonder, Patti Labelle, Jennifer Hudson, Tina Turner, or “practically anyone else” could have taken Lopez’s place. The Bronx singer performed hits like “Dancing in the Street,” “Do You Love Me,” “Money (That’s What I Want), “Please Mr. Postman” and more – while Smokey Robinson and Motown recording artist Ne-Yo joined Lopez during the set. But, many of the complainers agreed it was more of a chance to celebrate J. Lo then Motown. What Motown did for black artists was “monumental and groundbreaking” and laid the foundation for so many who have come since. “And there are so many amazing black artists out there today that could have killed a Motown tribute performance,” shared Toofab. And while Ne-Yo was there, it was brief. If all of that wasn’t enough to upset users, and it was, they also felt as though Lopez was lip-synching throughout the entire set. So not only did they find the tribute inappropriate, but it may not have even been a live tribute. But whether or not that is true, she still gave a sincere performance because she too was inspired by the soulful music at a very young age. And honored it to her 73-year-old mom, Lupe. “We used to dance around to this music,” she told E! on the Grammy’s pre-show red carpet , where she dedicated the performance to her mother. “I grew up with this music and me and my sisters, the three of us, we were, like, the backups. We were The Temptations and we just sing with her and I feel it’s a dream come true.” We could all tell that the heartfelt shout out to her mom truly reflected throughout her performance. And as for the haters, Smokey Robinson has one more question. “Who’s stupid enough to protest Jennifer Lopez doing anything for Motown?”

She also confirmed the pop star got her father Stephen Baldwin’s permission before asking the life-altering question last year. Still, though, when asked how much of her day is dedicated to wedding planning, Baldwin confessed…. not as much as it should be. “Not a lot, which reminds me that I should probably get on top of it,” she admitted. There had been chatter about the pair getting married next month in Los Angeles , but that may not be the case any longer. As for other details Hailey dishes on in the video below? From TMZ : “The deal she wanted was to perform her massive, #1 hit, ‘7 rings.’ We’re told the show’s producer, Ken Ehrlich , told Ariana that song wouldn’t connect with the audience, so he asked her to choose a different song. Ariana felt strongly ‘7 Rings’ was what people wanted to hear, and when Ehrlich wouldn’t budge, she said she’d take a pass.” In case you missed it, “7 Rings” is the song both Princess Nokia and Soulja Boy accused Grande of jacking . 2 Chainz also came for that azz over the visual, which basically takes place in his Pink Trap House. Anyway, just before dropping her album Thank U , Next last night, which features a tribute to late ex-boyfriend Mac Miller, the singer hit social media to set the record straight as far as the Grammys. Kylie Jenner may only consume 500 calories per day , but she has a very good reason for it: The reality star is too busy eating up her daughter, Stormi Webster! Exactly one year after giving birth to her first child, the 21-year old is here to gush over the infant, while also sharing a new and adorable photo of her tyke. “how did i get so lucky to have such a sweet, smart, happy baby,” Jenner wrote as a caption to the above picture. In honor of Stormi turning one, Kylie added: “i just couldn’t have dreamt you up, storm. i wish you could stay this little forever and i could protect that contagious smile and laugh of yours. “I know you won’t remember much about the first year of your life but i pray that you’ll never forget to keep sharing your joy and laughter with the world. “my love grows for you a thousand miles a minute. every day with you is the best day of my life. happy birthday to my angel on earth.” Stormi, of course, was born last February to Jenner and Travis Scott. It’s really sort of shocking that this happened, considering how that relationship back then did not seem very serious — and Kylie was just so very young. Fast forward 12 months and there’s lots of talk that Scott may propose to Jenner , while both Travis and Kylie appear to have really taken to parenthood. As “clout” continues to replace hard currency as the most valuable commodity of the 21st century, you can expect young aspiring influencers to go to greater and greater lengths in order to boost their public profile. For evidence of this hilarious trend look no further than 24-year-old aspiring pop star Kelsy Karter. Earlier this week, Kelsy tweeted the above photo with a caption reading: “mama, look what i made me do” It appeared that what she had done was to get an oddly purplish portrait of Harry Styles inked onto the side of her face. Kelsy foreshadowed the horrendous tatt by tweeting: “Finally know what I’m getting Harry for his birthday.” ( Styles turns 25 today.) Many were convinced the singer had really gone through with a rather horrendous decision. But just as many, if not more, suspected that something was amiss. Perhaps sensing that the jig was up, Karly confessed in an Instagram story that the whole thing was a hoax. “How I rocked the entire world for $300,” Kelsy titled the clip. “[Tattoo artist Romeo] traced Harry‘s 2017 Rolling Stone cover, applied it to my face, and then a special FX makeup artist did her thing,” she says in the video. “BTW: We know it looked ridiculous. That was the point.” Well, we suppose she gets bonus points for knowing she’s being ridiculous. As for whether or not the hoax worked, we suppose that depends on your definition of an effective PR stunt. Surely, more people are aware of Kelsy now than a few days ago — but that doesn’t mean she’s earned many new fans. In fact, she’s taken quite a bit of flak for the stalker-ish nature of her Harry-obsessed lyrics. Kelsy Karter – Harry So the good news is, Kelsy didn’t actually get a tattoo of Harry on her face. The bad news, unfortunately, is twofold: For starters, nearly a week after its release, the music video for “Harry” has yet to earn half a million views. Queen Naija and boyfriend Clarence White have officially welcomed their baby boy into the world and he is adorable! Queen Naija shared a photo on Instagram after giving birth to her baby boy Renzo, with the caption reading “Thank You God..” This is the singer’s second child, she and her ex-husband Chris Sails have a 3-year-old son, named CJ. Clarence also shared a photo of his new born son’s little hand holding his finger on his Instagram page. How adorable?! Congratulations are definitely in order for the happy couple! We wish them nothing but the best!
