‘Prometheus’ Trailer: Five Key Elements

Ridley Scott’s teaser, featuring Noomi Rapace and Charlize Theron fighting for their lives, is reminiscent of ‘Alien’ and ‘Blade Runner.’ By Kara Warner Photo: 20th Century Fox If you’re a fan of movie trailers, consider your holiday wants and wishes fulfilled now that the teaser for Ridley Scott’s “Prometheus” has dropped. It’s the fourth trailer released this week for a hugely anticipated 2012 film, following “The Dark Knight Rises,” “Wrath of the Titans” and “The Hobbit.” Here’s a look at five key elements that deserve MTV News’ over-analysis: Plot Tease We still don’t know a lot about the story line in this film, but this one-minute spot sheds a lot of light on what the action will center around: a team of explorers, scientists and anthropologists sets out on a journey to find clues to the origin of our species. “What they found could be our end,” we’re told in cold, blue type, before quick cuts of what looks to be death and destruction. And although the prequel rumors have been shot down by those involved, there is room here to interpret it as such. Not to mention the title: In Greek mythology, Prometheus is the titan who stole fire from Mt. Olympus and gave it to humans. If the humans in the film are searching for their origin, maybe it is Prometheus, in some way, shape or form. Lost in Space/Discovery of Life on Other Planets Unsurprisingly, there are several gorgeous shots of space vehicles, spaceships, spacesuits, etc. that help properly accentuate the size and scope of what it would be like to be up/out there, as well as how big this film really is. Director Ridley Scott shot the film in 3-D and serves up a few hints to the beautiful technology at play, though there is still a grittiness to it all. This is not friendly, bright and shiny unexplored territory; it’s dark, dangerous, deep space. And then there are the scenes at the end of the trailer that look to take place on another planet, in another galaxy. There is dry, dusty terrain and ancient-looking symbols, a towering horseshoe-shaped totem of some sort, that looks to be either crumbling to the ground, or it is moving of its own accord, beginning a small war between the natives and the humans who’ve discovered them. The New Ripley(s) It’s hard to talk about Ridley Scott and an “Alien”-esque movie without thinking about Sigourney Weaver as Ripley, one of the most bad-ass protagonists in film history. There’s no replacing Ripley, but Scott has enlisted two very capable ladies to carry the torch: Noomi Rapace and Charlize Theron. From what the trailer shows, both women will be fighting for their lives, but Rapace seems to be the most Ripley-esque, particularly in one shot where she is hanging upside down, being held by someone or something. The resemblance is uncanny. And let’s not forget about the rest of the cast, of whom we get only brief glimpses: Michael Fassbender, Idris Elba, Guy Pearce and Rafe Spall. That Ridley Scott Touch The trailer is cold, calculated and just too cool. Just like Scott has said himself, if “Prometheus” isn’t an “Alien” prequel, the two films definitely share the same DNA — not to mention a few “Blade Runner”-esque elements thrown in for good measure. And as is the case with most of Scott’s films, the effects are far more practical than CG. The world of “Prometheus” is set in a distant future, but not too distant. It’s big, bold and, very likely, terrifying. The Alien(s) As much as we might have hoped to see some big, bad aliens in this trailer, all we get are hints of an unidentified, menacing force out there. In one brief scene, the team happens upon an area full of small, perfectly arranged casings that could be artifacts or alien eggs, we don’t know. But we do see one of the humans’ helmets enveloped by a mysterious gas, followed by a loud, painful scream. There is a quick shot of the head of something being examined in a lab, what looks like it might be an alien ship of some sort hovering over dusty terrain, followed by brief shots of human suffering at the hands of something we can’t quite make out. Yet. “Prometheus” hits theaters June 8, 2012. Matt Damon: Jeremy Renner ‘Obvious Choice’ For ‘Bourne Legacy’

‘He’s such a good actor and can carry a movie,’ actor tells MTV News. By Kevin P. Sullivan, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Jeremy Renner Photo: Getty Images In August, when “The Bourne Legacy” opens in theaters, the man behind Jason Bourne, Matt Damon , won’t be anywhere in sight. At least that’s what the actor says. Damon sat down with MTV News’ Josh Horowitz while promoting his new film, “We Bought a Zoo,” and he insisted he had no part in the fourth “Bourne” movie. “No, I’m not in that one. I haven’t even read the script,” he said. But as a key component of the series, Damon was able to give his take on how “Legacy,” which is being directed by Tony Gilroy, fits in with the previous three films. “My understanding is that it’s like if you think of ‘X-Men’ and then ‘Wolverine,’ the spin-off movie, just think of it in reverse,” he explained. “There’s the Bourne character, and then there’s this whole world. It doesn’t preclude [director] Paul Greengrass and I from doing another [‘Bourne’ movie].” Damon had spoken with the star of “Bourne Legacy,” Jeremy Renner , briefly, but he insisted the conversation didn’t have much to do with the series. “We didn’t really talk about the movie much. I’m just a huge fan of his,” Damon said. When Damon and Greengrass — who directed the second and third “Bourne” films — met to move forward with the series after “Ultimatum,” Renner was a topic of conversation. “When Paul Greengrass and I were talking about the character and maybe doing a fourth one a couple years ago and maybe passing it off to somebody, Renner was the guy we talked about. He’s an obvious choice, because he’s such a good actor and can carry a movie,” he said. For Damon, the “Bourne” movies strike a difficult balance that he feels Renner can successfully handle. “Those movies are really tough, because you need the guy to be internally tortured about something, and Jeremy’s the kind of guy you could watch,” Damon said. “You could remove the action and watch Jeremy just angst over something for two hours, and it could be really compelling.” Check out everything we’ve got on “The Bourne Legacy.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com . Reggae rapper said, ‘I am reclaiming myself.’ Matisyahu Photo: Brian Appio Think about how mad Metallica’s fans got when singer James Hetfield cut his hair. Now pretend you’re a huge follower of reggae rapper Matisyahu and you logged into his website on Tuesday morning to find out that the ‘Mat you knew is no more. First came the Twitter posting of the “King Without a Crown” singer shorn of his signature long beard and side locks . Then came the surprise explanation of his new look. “This morning I posted a photo of myself on Twitter,” he wrote. “No more Chassidic reggae superstar. Sorry folks, all you get is me…no alias. When I started becoming religious 10 years ago it was a very natural and organic process. It was my choice. My journey to discover my roots and explore Jewish spirituality–not through books but through real life. At a certain point I felt the need to submit to a higher level of religiosity…to move away from my intuition and to accept an ultimate truth. I felt that in order to become a good person I needed rules–lots of them–or else I would somehow fall apart. I am reclaiming myself. Trusting my goodness and my divine mission.” Born Matthew Paul Miller, the 32-year-old rapper and former acid-dropping Phish-head who found religion at age 19 released his debut album, Shake Off the Dust … Arise in 2004. He followed up with the 2006’s Youth and 2009’s Light , interspersed with three live albums along the way. His live shows have long mixed the thudding bass-heavy sound of dub reggae with rapping as well as touches of punk. In the note he promised that the next year will be filled with “music of rebirth.” And if you’re stressed about his naked face, “don’t worry…you haven’t seen the last of my facial hair.” Some fans were clearly confused by the move, asking the singer why he would make such a radical turn. On Twitter, Matisyahu comforted them and promised that he is still attending prayer services at his synagogue, further proving his belief by posting a series of inspirational quotes from Psalms. Lindsay Lohan’s Playboy ‘Breaking Sales Records’

Hugh Hefner tweets that actress’ January/February issue is selling well. By Jocelyn Vena Lindsay Lohan on the cover of Playboy Photo: Playboy Despite Lindsay Lohan ‘s leaked Playboy photos and cancellation of her appearance on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show,” it seems the issue is doing quite well. After early reports surfaced that the magazine, which hit newsstands last week, wasn’t selling so hot, TMZ reported that her retro-themed shoot is starting to sell out. Sources say retailers in cities like Los Angeles and New York have had to order more issues, and subscriptions to the Playboy website have increased since the issue became available. The news seems to have pleased head honcho Hugh Hefner, who confirmed the report on Twitter. “The Lindsay Lohan January-February Double Issue is breaking sales records,” he wrote on Sunday. Last week, Lohan took to Twitter and opened up about the nude pictorial she had done in the style of Marilyn Monroe’s classic spreads. “Playboy on stands now!” she said . “I was so nervous! I hope people like it and pick up a copy!!! ….xoxo.” In the January/February issue, Lohan also talks about her ongoing problems. “Looking back, I probably would have listened to and taken more advice from the people whom I admire and would have followed through with it more,” she told the magazine. “My stubbornness at 18 and 19 years old got in the way. During the past five years, I’ve learned that time flies faster than you think, and because you only live once, you have to learn from your mistakes, live your dreams and be accountable.” Related Artists Lindsay Lohan

Rihanna Teases ‘You Da One’ Video With New Still

Talk That Talk singer tweets, ‘You know im already in trouble 4 this but, i like to keep yall in the loop.’ By Jocelyn Vena Rihanna in her video for “You Da One” Photo: Universal Rihanna is giving fans a taste of what they should expect from her forthcoming “You Da One” video. Over the weekend, the Talk That Talk singer tweeted a still from the clip. “#YOUDAONEVIDEO you know im already in trouble 4 this but, i like to keep yall in the loop,” she wrote in the tweet, which also included a photo of Rihanna , topless, leaning back in a chair as she blows smoke into the air. It’s a similar image to her deluxe-edition album cover , where she looks into the camera, also topless and blowing smoke. Helmed by her “We Found Love” director Melina Matsoukas, Rihanna dropped a behind-the-scenes video earlier this month. In the clip, filmed while the singer was on her Loud Tour, a mold is taken of her teeth to create a fanged grill for the video. “I’m getting a grill made for an upcoming video shoot for ‘You Da One,’ but I only want the bottom done with fangs, and they have to make a mold so they can send it to New Castle, ship it from New Castle, get it made, and then send it back to London for the video,” she explained, giving no other details about the grill’s presence in the video. Some photos from the set also leaked around the same time. Wearing a short blond wig with blunt bangs, Rihanna dons a tight white tank top, denim shorts, bold black tights with the word “Boy” written on them in white and a white bowler hat. The look fits the wardrobe she’s been wearing during this album phase, which is very street and punk-inspired. “You Da One” is the second single off the album. Produced by Dr. Luke, it follows up the success of “We Found Love.” “This is one of those records, it becomes very addictive,” she said about the track. “To me, it’s very infectious: The more you listen to it, the more you want to listen to it. It had a reggae vibe, but it’s a sweet little love letter. I love the record. It’s kind of dirty, I love it.” Related Artists Rihanna

Ke$ha Wanted ‘Sleazy’ Remix To Be ‘Gangster’

Lil Wayne, T.I., Wiz Khalifa and Andre 3000 heat up latest version of the Cannibal track. By Jocelyn Vena Ke$ha Photo: Jeff Kravitz / Getty Ke$ha snagged four of the biggest rappers in the game for the latest remix of her Cannibal track “Sleazy.” After getting Andre 3000 on a 1.0 remix, Ke$ha and producer Dr. Luke upped the ante for “Sleazy Remix 2.0 Get Sleazier” by adding Lil Wayne, Wiz Khalifa and T.I. to the mix. “These were all kind of on my wish list of people to work with in the future,” she told MTV News on Friday (December 16) about the remix, which was released earlier this week. “Dr. Luke and I had this idea that we wanted to just get them all on one track and make it as gangster of a track as we possibly could. It was kind of a little bit of a mission, and the fact that we pulled it off just in time for Christmas — I’m stoked about it.” Ke$ha said it was “totally a process” trying to get some of the busiest guys in the music industry to make time for the song. “When I first got Andre 3000 on it, that was a dream come true … then it was Lil Wayne. Then it was Wiz Khalifa. And each one of them it was like a victory,” she said. Weezy was working in the same studio as the pop star, so she “bum-rushed” him to talk about the remix. “We got to talking, and he asked me what my sign was and we realized we could make some sick music together.” Once T.I. was onboard, Ke$ha knew it was time for them to put it out.”Finally it was like, ‘OK, that’s pretty f—ing gangster … mission accomplished.’ ” And Ke$ha says she couldn’t be happier with the finished product. “You can really tell they put their best into their lyrics. I’m really proud of the remix ’cause I feel like everyone is really f—ing going for it,” she said. “All of their verses are really incredible.” Share your reviews of the “Sleazy” remix in the comments!
