By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Christina Garibaldi Ke$ha Photo: MTV News Ke$ha is currently on the road with Rihanna , but the “Tik Tok” singer says once the Last Girl On Earth Tour wraps up, she’d like to plot a trek of her own. And she’s hoping that the lessons she’s learned opening up for the pop star will be useful on any tour she might embark on in the future. “I’m finishing up this tour and going in to start writing again — some more music for you guys — and will continue touring throughout the rest of the year,” she told MTV News. “I don’t know who’s going to go on tour with me yet, but I think I’ll be going on my tour later this year perhaps.”

2 largest liars/skeptics on climate change admit it’s happening and human caused

“Stu Ostro, Senior Meteorologist at the Weather Channel: “I changed my point of view from what it was in the days of the Fred Singer article, and would do so again if that’s what the evidence shows. But it does not. As I wrote back in 2006, global warming is not a religion. The chemistry, physics, and thermodynamics involved are science, not religion, nor are they liberal or conservative.”” http://current.com/1b9jn4c And from a different article: “CNN's long time climate change skeptic and purveyor of every wingnut talking point on global warming in the book, Chad Myers, finally admits the truth: “Is it caused by man? Yes. Is it 100% caused by man? No.”” http://current.com/179jn4c added by: TopScruffy

Drake Made ‘Karaoke’ Beat ‘Personal,’ Francis And The Lights Say

‘He actually made it make sense in a way that didn’t make sense to me before,’ producer Francis Farewell Starlite tells MTV News. By Jayson Rodriguez Francis and the Lights Photo: MTV News Drake’s Thank Me Later was produced mostly by his trusted collaborator Noah “40” Shebib, but the Toronto lyricist ventured into the studio with an array of hip-hop beatsmiths for his debut, from Swizz Beatz to Kanye West. One standout on the project was indie-rock act Francis and the Lights. Frontman Francis Farewell Starlite produced the second song on Thank Me Later, the muted “Karaoke.” After he signed on to tour with Drake , Starlite was asked by the rapper’s camp if he had any music available. Starlite struggled while trying craft the right number, before ultimately deciding to give up a track he was saving for himself. “My immediate reaction was to go into the studio with [my producer], who I work with on most of my things, and we tried to make beats,” he told MTV News. “And we sent one and heard nothing; we sent another and heard nothing. And I sort of realized: It has to be deeper than that. [For] Drake and his people, it has to be good above all, before it’s any genre or anything. So I had a song that I had been working on for a while that I knew was good. I knew it was something special. And I made the decision to give it to him and let it go in that way. So I tracked [‘Karaoke’] in one night in the middle of [recording] my record. I sent it to them, and I heard back in, like, three minutes,” he laughed. The result was a minimalist number on which Drake deftly mixes soft crooning before building up into a straightforward rap about a relationship gone awry. “I remember when you thought I was joking/ Now I’m off singing karaoke, further than I ever been,” Drake sings. “So if you gotta go, if there’s any way I can help.” The song parallels material more likely to be on a Francis and the Lights project than anything in a retailer’s rap bin. Starlite said Drake didn’t tweak the music much, but admitted the Young Money star’s vocals gave the song a vitality it initially lacked. “He made it better, unquestionably, from what I had,” the singer said. “And that’s a good feeling. He made it very personal, but making some very subtle changes and doing his thing on it, obviously, with the verses. He actually made it make sense in a way that didn’t make sense to me before.” What do you think of Francis and the Lights’ production work for Drake? Let us know in the comments! Lloyd Says Polow Da Don ‘Brings Out The Best Of Me’

King of Hearts ‘is gonna be my best work to date,’ R&B heartthrob tells MTV News of his first-ever Polow-helmed LP. By Shaheem Reid Lloyd Photo: MTV News It’s official now: Young Goldie and Awesome Jones are down together. Former Murder Inc. singer Lloyd announced last year he was leaving his original label home and, several weeks ago, he finalized a new deal at Interscope. On Monday (August 16) it was announced that he inked a deal to release his next LP, The King of Hearts, via a joint deal with the Zone 4 imprint belonging to producer Polow Da Don a.k.a. Awesome Jones. “I’m the King of Hearts, you know,” Lloyd said recently when we visited the New Jersey set of Lloyd Banks’ “Any Girl” video. “And at the album release, we gonna be drinking Ace of Spades,” he laughed. “Me and Polow Da Don have been working hard,” he added. “I got a lot of surprises. I think that a lot of people haven’t heard me sound like this, haven’t heard me sing like this. It’s gonna be a new look, it’s gonna be like I’m back for the first time. It should be anticipated. The album is gonna be my best work to date, King of Hearts.” The R&B heartthrob just released the single “Lay It Down,” and the tumble-in-the-sheets single is just the first hint of what’s to come from the Po and Lloyd collaboration. Lloyd’s last LP was 2008’s Lessons in Love, which spawned the hit “Girls Around the World” featuring Lil Wayne. Of course, Lloyd, a.k.a. Young Goldie, was also heard on the Young Money blockbuster “Bedrock.” Lloyd and his connection to Cash Money/ Young Money is so strong that the singer nearly became an official Young Money member, but wanted to bolt entirely from Universal, where his last two albums were released through The Inc. and which serves as the distribution home for Young Money projects. Instead, he’ll be over at the house that Jimmy Iovine built working with a fellow ATL music staple, producer/songwriter Polow. “He’s dedicated,” Lloyd co-signed of the hitmaker. “The greatest thing about Polow is there’s no amount of time that’s unnecessary when it comes to making something the best, whether it takes two days or two months for one track. I’ve seen Polow sit with one song for six days and perfect it. You can hear the difference in the quality against someone else’s music. It sounds completely different. “Working with Polow, he brings the best out of me,” Lloyd continued. “He pushes me to be a better artist. And I really feel like I found a home, I found a good home at Interscope. They believe in me as a star. I’m really looking forward to the future.” Lloyd’s first album, Southside, was released in 2004, and he hit another milestone when his 2007 sophomore LP, Street Love, debuted at #2 on the Billboard albums chart. Now, he’s ready to take a fresh direction for his fourth effort. Polow will be handling most of the album’s production, which Lloyd says is a much-welcome change of pace. “I don’t wanna bounce around too much. When an artist bounces around, you lose the consistency and the continuity in the sound,” he said. “For me, working with Polow has been all that and more. He’s given me a lot of different sounds, but at the same time, it’s a complete thought, so it’s not like we’re recording the same songs over and over again. Having that one creative partner in a producer is something I’ve never really had and I’m enjoying a lot not having to bounce around … just me and Po for the most part.” What do you think of Lloyd’s new single? Rick Ross Talks T.I., Jadakiss, Erykah Badu Collabos

‘The time was right,’ Ross says of Tip lacing ‘Maybach Music III.’ By Shaheem Reid Rick Ross Photo: MTV News Earlier this week, Erykah Badu released a video for the remix of “Window Seat” that features Rick Ross. That collaboration led to the singer appearing on Ross’ song “Maybach Music III,” which appears on his acclaimed new album Teflon Don . “She never really collaborated with a lot of artists outside of Outkast,” Ross explained. “Maybe another artist or two, [like] the Roots. It was always conscious music she was making. You know, a gritty street artist — that’s always a plus when you get to work with somebody with the flowers around them and [they’re] burning incense. And it’s positive.” Ross was a longtime admirer of Badu’s work, which made the idea of working with her intriguing. “Her music always attracted me; it was always attractive to my kind of music,” he said. “Once we collaborated with the ‘Window Seat’ remix … the lanes of communication was open, I was like, ‘Let’s do something different.’ ” The track, which was produced by the J.U.S.T.I.C.E. League, also features T.I. and Jadakiss. “I felt the time was right for me and T.I. [to work together],” the Bawse explained. “We had never personally collaborated with each other on a record one on one. Early on in my career, I had said [negative] things when I didn’t know him. Just us being bosses and us being leaders and us being examples, we bossed up. We both did. He came from home doing what he did. I did my thing.” But as time passed, the animosity waned, and Ross asked Tip to collaborate. “Just on a mutual respect for each other, I reached out to him. When I got that verse back, I was like, ‘He meant that.’ We had been seeing each other over a period of time, saluting each other, bumping into each other, he knew I was a fan of his. We captured that moment in time which was one of the dopest records. And that meant the most to me. I used to play that T.I. verse in my studio, like, ‘This set the tone, right here. It set the tone.’ It just felt good for the homie to lace me. I salute Tip.” Ross brought Jadakiss, a longtime friend, on “Maybach” as well. “Jada was always that New York underdog,” he said. “That next lyricist. You could be the hottest at the time, but if you slippin’, Jada is one record away. He’s a cool dude, somebody I got a mutual respect and a friendship with.” This week, Ross released a new track online, “Summer’s Mine,” where he takes aim at his competition. “Bitch I run the south/ I’m what you wanna be,” he raps. “This how you wanna live/ This what you wanna drive/ Be honest with yourself/ I’m who you idolize.” What do you think of Ross’ “Maybach Music III”? How does it rank with the previous tracks? Tell us in the comments! Related Artists Rick Ross (Hip-Hop) Erykah Badu Jadakiss T.I.

‘American Idol’ Champ Lee DeWyze Draws Cheers At L.A. Show

Season-nine ‘Idol’ contestants rock the Staples Center. By Matt Elias Lee DeWyze performs at the American Idol Live! Tour in Los Angeles August 13 Photo: Kevin Winter/ Getty Images LOS ANGELES — Friday night (August 13) at the Staples Center saw the return of all top 10 “American Idol” season-nine finalists to Los Angeles for the American Idols Live! Tour. While part of the center was closed, the arena was only a little over half full by the time the show started around 7:45 pm. However, despite the empty seats, die-hard “Idol” fans showed their enthusiasm with homemade signs and t-shirts. First to take the stage was Didi Benami, decked out in a shimmery top and blonde locks reminiscent of Taylor Swift. After her first song, “Lay It on Me,” Benami drew cheers when she shouted, “Los Angeles! Welcome to American Idol Live! How’s everyone doing tonight?” She then strapped on an acoustic guitar and really stretched her vocals on “Terrified.” Next in line was hometown hero, Andrew Garcia. The singer broke into his now-famous cover of Paula Abdul’s “Straight Up” and then got the crowd on its feet for “Sunday Morning” by Maroon 5. Katie Stevens followed suit with Demi Lovato’s “Here We Go Again.” Rocking a pair of black gloves and boots, Stevens commanded the stage with ease. With a nod to the amount of hurdles she overcame in the last year, she aptly chose Christina Aguilera’s “Fighter” as her next tune. While not as dirty as Xtina, Stevens’ vocal powers were on par. Female favorite, Tim Urban, hit the stage next. He kept things casual in Converse kicks and jeans as he belted the Goo Goo Dolls’ “Better Days.” But his next choice, Coldplay’s “Viva La Vida,” was a pale version of the original. In one of the most electric performances of the night, Siobhan Magnus tore through The Rolling Stones’ “Paint It Black,” a song that also scored her praise as an “Idol” contender. Wearing what could be described as a rock and roll French maid outfit, Magnus followed with No Doubt’s “Spiderwebs.” Then she turned things up with the addition of a new song to her set: Muse’s “Stockholm Syndrome.” While Magnus was a tough act to follow, Aaron Kelly held his own. Looking grown-up in his leather jacket, Kelly kept it country with Keith Urban’s “Somebody Like You,” “Walking in Memphis” by Marc Cohn and Rascal Flatts’ “Fast Cars and Freedom.” Five of the finalists returned to the stage for an ensemble rendition of Miley Cyrus’ “The Climb” before an intermission. Michael Lynche kicked off the second half of the show in a dapper tux. Showing off his falsetto skills, Lynche crooned Maxwell’s “This Woman’s Work” and “Ready for Love” by India.Arie. He pulled double duty on his third song of the set, Justin Timberlake’s “My Love,” taking on both JT and T.I.’s verses. Lynche’s performance wasn’t all about soulful jams as the singer even squeezed in a shout-out to The Cheesecake Factory The night continued with Casey James, who shredded guitar on The Black Keys’ “I Got Mine” and Shania Twain’s “Don’t!” Lynche returned to the stage to join James on Bryan Adams’ “Have You Ever Really Loved a Woman?” prompting the ladies in attendance to swoon. James closed his set with his version of the ’60s Stones hit “It’s All Over Now.” Season-nine runner-up Crystal Bowersox entered the stage next, declaring, “It’s good to be home!” Starting off her set with “What’s Up?” by 4 Non Blondes, she elicited the most crowd participation of the night. After some playful banter with a roadie, Mama-Sox picked up a harmonica for Melissa Etheridge’s “Come to My Window.” She kept the fun-loving spirit going with songs such as the Janis Joplin classic, “Piece of My Heart,” playing to the fans pressed up against the front barriers. Next, “American Idol” winner, Lee DeWyze, hit the stage to a chorus of cheering fans. With most of the audience on its feet, DeWyze ripped a country version of U2’s “Beautiful Day.” “It’s good to be back here,” DeWyze proclaimed, and then told fans, “This next song is one of my favorite ones, I think you know it.” The singer then launched into a soaring rendition of Elton John’s “Rocket Man.” He rocked a range of songs and wrapped up with the Kings of Leon smash, “Use Somebody.” Closing out the night, the guys returned to the stage for Bon Jovi’s “It’s My Life,” followed by the female finalists’ revamp of Kelly Clarkson’s “My Life Would Suck Without You.” Paying homage to the original “American Idol,” the fellas joined the ladies for the end of the Clarkson cover, giving fans almost three full hours of American Idols Live! Rihanna Fans Are Sure ‘Love The Way You Lie’ Is About Chris Brown

‘It’s little hints in the song that [sound] like it’s referring to Chris Brown,’ one fan tells MTV News outside Last Girl on Earth Tour. By Mawuse Ziegbe, with reporting by Adam Murphy and Rya Backer Rihanna performs in concert (file) Photo: WireImage Eminem’s “Love the Way You Lie,” featuring Rihanna , puts emotional candor — in both the video and the song — front and center. Given the very public abusive relationships Rihanna and Em have gone through, many fans believe the artists drew from personal experience for the collaboration. Concertgoers waiting for the singer’s Last Girl on Earth Tour stop in New York City on Thursday (August 12) told MTV News that the “Umbrella” singer’s tumultuous past with ex-beau Chris Brown informed her performance in “Lie.” “I would say it’s like the Chris Brown situation, just because … they go from hating each other then loving each other then back to hating each other and all this stuff,” Stephanie Gutez observed about the “Lie” video, which features Megan Fox and Dominic Monaghan as a feuding couple. “That’s how Rihanna and Chris Brown pretty much are.” Video director Joseph Kahn has insisted that while relationship abuse is an issue that Em and Rihanna have dealt with, the video isn’t about either star’s past. Although Rihanna doesn’t mention any of her ex-loves by name in the song, Nicole Hollins is convinced the singer has Brown in mind. “She’s just talking about … hurt, but she loves the way he’s hurting her. In that relationship … she was abused by him,” Hollins said. “So it’s little hints in the song that [sound] like it’s referring to Chris Brown. I think it is. I don’t care what anyone says.” Cassidy Santos said the video has a cautionary message, warning people about what happens when love goes too far. “I thought it was interesting how [Rihanna] and Eminem compared the way their lives were,” Santos said. “Since what happened with Chris Brown, it showed that people shouldn’t do that to women.” Rebecca Snoddy said “Lie” keeps it real about the difficulties that any couple, famous or otherwise, must contend with. “I think it depicted [the relationship] in a way that’s honest and truthful like any other relationship would be,” Snoddy said. Francis And The Lights Call Drake Co-Sign ‘Overwhelming’

‘I accept the challenge that it brings,’ frontman Francis Farewell Starlite says of tourmate Drizzy’s support. By Jayson Rodriguez Francis and the Lights Photo: MTV News Francis and the Lights opened up for Drake more than 30 times during the Toronto rapper’s Away From Home Tour , but in the lead-up to what should be a somewhat smaller show at S.O.B.’s on Thursday (August 12), the band says expectations have made it seem like anything but a regular gig. “I really feel like it’s my debut show in New York, even though it really isn’t,” frontman Francis Farewell Starlite told MTV News. “I feel like some aspect to it … I’d be lying if it didn’t have something to do with the idea of who is gonna be there — press- and music business-wise. But I also can’t have any expectations of that. But that would be exciting, if it was blown up in that way.” The show is in support of their newest effort, It’ll Be Better, the band’s third, and most ambitious, project to date. After two EPs, Francis, a veteran of the New York City performance circuit, set about working on Better, a collection of stripped-down tracks and searing vocals. In addition to Drake, Ryan Leslie is another champion of the singer. And Kanye West posted the singer’s cover of “Can’t Tell Me Nothing” on his last year. Francis called the support, particularly from Drake, “overwhelming.” But, he added, he’s completely prepared for all of the attention that often comes with such a heavy co-sign. “It’s humbling in that way,” he explained of Drake, who he collaborated with on Thank Me Later ‘s “Karaoke.” “It’s someone whose work you admire and it means something to you. In that way, it’s almost overwhelming. I think that’s the word for the amount that he has brought me to the forefront. It’s overwhelming. But at the same time, I’m ready for it. And it feels right to me. And I accept the challenge that it brings.” What do you think of Francis and the Lights’ latest album? Share your reviews in the comments!
