Nas Makes ‘History’ With Heavy D-Produced ‘The Don’

‘When Salaam played me the beat for it, I said, ‘That’s the single,’ ‘ Nas tells MTV News of Life Is Good track. By Nadeska Alexis Nas Photo: MTV News Nas is gearing up to release his 10th studio album, Life Is Good, this summer, and the Queens MC gave fans a first taste of the anticipated LP last week with the premiere of his new single, “The Don.” The track features production from Salaam Remi, Da Internz and the late Heavy D, who died suddenly in November. Before taking the stage at South by Southwest this past weekend, Nas acknowledged the significance of having Heav’s touch on his new single. “When Salaam played me the beat for it, I said, ‘That’s the single — do this and do that and we’re golden.’ So he started flipping it around,” Nas said of the first time he heard the instrumentals. “When we heard that Heavy D died, of course we were messed up, and Salaam called me and told me, ‘You know your record “The Don”? You know who gave me that, right?’ “He’s like, ‘Heavy D gave me that. He liked what we did with the other single, “Nasty,” and he sent me this record.’ And the rest is history,” Nas continued. “So rest in peace, Heavy D.” Life Is Good will be Nas’ first solo album since 2008’s Untitled, and the LP is slated to arrive by late May or early June. “It’s a summer album,” Nas told MTV News. “We’re gonna shoot the video for ‘The Don’ and get ready for the next song that’s in the chamber. It ain’t gon’ stop. It’s a whole story. ‘[The] Don’ just dropped, so we’re just letting that bubble and setting up the next one.” Before Nas rolls out Life Is Good, fans can catch him on the song “Champion,” which appears on Nicki Minaj’s upcoming sophomore album, Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded. “Nicki hit us up, I got love, so it was nothin’ — I did the record,” he said of his work on the track. Listen to Madonna Slam Guy Ritchie Marriage In New Pop Single

It’s probably one of the best ways to work through your failed celebrity marriage: Air all your dirty laundry in a thinly veiled dance-pop ditty from your hawt new album! Which is what Madonna seemingly does in her new song, “I Don’t Give A,” which Guy Ritchie is listening to somewhere, shaking his head. Sample lyrics: “You were so mad at me / Who’s got custody / Lawyers / Suck it up / Didn’t have a prenup.” OUCH. Let the divorce therapy rip! More lyrics: “Wake up ex wife / This is your life / Children / On your own / Turning on the telephone” “Messages / managers / no time for a manicure / work it out / shake my ass / I know how to multi-task” “I tried to be a good girl / I tried to be your wife / Diminished myself / and I swallowed my light” Eh, I give Madge points for getting Nicki Minaj on her track, even if her best lines are about rejecting shoes from Aldo and co-opting Jay-Z’s “business, man” bit. The song itself is a little to Desperate Ex-Housewives for my tastes. Whatever happened to singing about lucky stars and sex and Black Jesus and stuff? Prenups? Custody? Yawn. [ Huffington Post ]

Justin Bieber Announces New Single, ‘Boyfriend’

‘My first single is going to be amazing — everyone’s going to love it,’ Bieber tells MTV News about the Believe track. By Jocelyn Vena Justin Bieber Photo: WireImage Justin Bieber wants to be your “Boyfriend.” Well, at least he does on the lead single off his new album, Believe, set for release later this year. He announced the single’s name and release date, March 26, when he stopped by “The Ellen DeGeneres Show,” in an episode airing on Thursday (March 1), his 18th birthday . “My big announcement is that on March 26th, my first single is coming out and it’s called ‘Boyfriend,’ ” he said about the song, co-written by Mike Posner. “The song, it’s basically I’m talking to this girl, [saying] if I was your boyfriend, I would never let you go. We wrote it, and the verses I’m talking/ rapping and then on the hook I’m singing. It’s a really awesome song.” While the single announcement served as a surprise for fans, manager Scooter Braun had his own surprise for the teen star. Braun gifted Bieber with a car, the sporty, electric Fisker Karma. Ellen had something special for him, too: a window sun visor with a photo of the two of them on it, as well as an Ellen bobblehead. MTV News caught up with Bieber this week, and he answered many of his fans’ questions in addition to talking about his new album. “This new album is crazy. I’ve spent the most time on it creatively just writing myself and being involved in the whole process. It’s something that comes from my heart,” he explained of the 2012 release. “I hope all my fans and all my Beliebers like it. With my new album Believe there’s so many different songs and so many different styles. It’s really versatile and fun. My first single is going to be amazing — everyone’s going to love it.” Happy 18th birthday, Justin Bieber ! I still consider Goldeneye to be the most fun I’ve ever had with a controller in my hand. Wiz Khalifa Knew Amber Rose Was An ‘Amazing Superstar’

Wiz brags to MTV News about his boo, who is working on her debut album. By Rob Markman, with reporting by Sam Hendrick and Sway Calloway Wiz Khalifa Photo: Michael Buckner/ Getty Images Wiz Khalifa has always believed in Amber Rose. His boo may have started out as a model, but Rose is now branching out into a number of different endeavors including fashion design, acting and making music. “She’s amazing. I love Amber so much, as a person and just watching her grow and just take things on,” Wiz told MTV News on Saturday on the red carpet at the Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah. “I just really get to sit back and watch her become this amazing superstar that I already knew she was. Now everybody else gets to see it.” Khalifa believes in his girl so much that he lent his vocals to her debut song “Fame,” which Rose released online two weeks ago. On the single, the stately model sings of the pitfalls of being in the limelight. But “Fame” has received criticism, something Rose is familiar with. “I knew when I put out this single that I was gonna deal with scrutiny or people that might like the song but just because it’s me, they don’t like it — they just don’t want to give it a chance, but that’s OK,” Rose said on “RapFix Live” earlier this month. “They don’t have to take me as an artist right now. I’ll just have to prove it to them.” Despite the naysayers, Rose insists that she has been getting a lot of positive feedback on the record that she co-wrote. She is currently in the studio working on an album. “I have probably about five songs done, but I’m taking my time,” she said, adding that she takes the music “very seriously.” Though Wiz always believed, at first it was difficult for Amber to embrace her growing popularity. “It was hard for me to embrace the fact that I was famous. Even just being out and taking pictures. I was always very quiet,” she said. “It was a little weird for me and I had to get used to it. And now that I’ve embraced it, I’m ready to move on and do everything that I enjoy doing — one being music.” What did you think of Amber Rose’s “Fame”? Tell us in the comments!
