In an op-ed for the New York Times , Montaño says she lost money to feed her family because of Nike’s shady maternity practices. When Montanño approached her sponsor to announce her pregnancy, they told her that they would just pause her contract. Alysia famously ran a national championship at eight months pregnant to prove that pregnant women could compete. Now, she’s speaking out so that no other female athlete has to suffer like she did. Her stepdad is now a person of interest. Houston police declared Darion Vence a person of interest earlier today after decided he gave “conflicting stories” in regards to missing Maleah Davis. Just hours before Vence became a suspect, CNN’s Nick Valencia spoke directly to Brittany Bownes, Maleah’s mom and she doubts the story circulating about her daughter is true. He tweeted the following quote from Britany Bownes, Maleah’s mom. “His story doesn’t make sense, it doesn’t. But in my gut, I believe him.” Brittany Bowens, mother of missing 4-year-old # MaleahDavis tells me when asked if she believes her fiancé’s story. In a wide ranging phone interview she also denies any abuse at the home. Maleah’s mother says of the step-father. “His story, it don’t sound right…Honestly, I haven’t really talked to him much because I’ve been focused on finding Maleah. Fox 26 reporter Sally McDonald reports that HPD has officially declared Vence a person on interest in Maleah Davis’ disappearance. . @houstonpolice tell Fox 26 Darion Vence is now a person of interest in the disappearance of his stepdaughter, Maleah Davis. Source: TASS / Getty Forty-One People Die After Russian Plane Catches On Fire While Landing Horrible footage of a Russian plane landing in flames has shocked the world. According to USA Today , an Aeroflot plane made an emergency landing in Moscow right as its back end was engulfed in flames. The Aeroflot captain who landed the Superjet 100 aircraft said a lightning strike and full fuel tanks might have had something to do with the fire which left 41 people dead. Aeroflot Flight SU1492 was scheduled to leave from Moscow to the northwestern Russian city of Murmansk on Sunday. However, it returned to the Moscow airport less thank 30 minutes after taking off because lightning hit the plane, according to passengers and pilot Denis Evdokimov. He told Russian media that there was a “bright flash and a bang” moments before the crew started an emergency landing. He added that contact with air traffic controllers was hindered by the apparent lightning strike. Evdokimov said that the crew was left to perform a manual landing and they managed to establish radio contact for “a couple of words” to air traffic control personnel, who guided them down to the runway. The jet had a rough landing, striking the runway several times, which probably damaged the fuel tanks and caused the fire to ignite in the rear of the fuselage, the pilot explained. “The speed wasn’t high, it was normal according to the flight manual,” Evdokimov said. However, the jet was heavy with fuel, which added to the challenge of the landing, according to Evdokimov. A clip of the landing shows the plane riding the runway amid huge flames and a trail of thick black smoke. Moments later, passengers exit the emergency slides. Of the 41 people who were killed, most of them suffered smoke inhalation and many had serious burns. Passenger Mikhail Savchenko wrote on Facebook, “huge grief for everyone who lost their family and loved ones.” He explained that he survived with a few bruises. “No, I didn’t drag my suitcases,” he said. “No, the moment I was filming, there were no people around me that I could help. But believe me, it’s not much easier.” Aeroflot said they would provide emergency assistance to survivors and was flying family members to Moscow free of charge. “Aeroflot extends its deepest condolences to the family and loved ones of those who lost their lives,” the airline said in a statement. “The crew did everything in its power to save passenger lives and provide emergency assistance to those involved. Tragically, they were unable to save all of those aboard.” The Russian Investigative Committee has launched a criminal inquiry to figure out if aircraft operation safety rules were violated. Such an investigation is standard business in crashes that claim the lives of two or more passengers.
Source: Sun Sentinel / Getty Florida Residents March For #JusticeForLucca Delucca “Lucca” Rolle was pepper-sprayed, punched and had his head slammed against the pavement by Broward County police last month and the people in his hometown have not stopped fighting on his behalf and on behalf of millions of Black folks who have been abused by police. According to Sun-Sentinel , over one hundred people joined the 15-year-old to march for the criminal prosecution of the two officers who attacked him. The white sheriffs, Deputy Christopher Krickovich and Sgt. Greg LaCerra, have been suspended by Sheriff Greg Tony but that ain’t really good enough. “We will not stop until those officers are fired and charged,” Broward/Fort Lauderdale NAACP president Marsha Ellington said. “We will remember the choices [Tony] makes when it comes to justice for Lucca.” Yolanda Daley, a parent attending the rally, made a good point about the way the “justice system” handles these situations. “No one else should be able to do that and get away with it,” Daley said. “If a parent can’t do that, there’s no way that another human being can take my child and do them that way.” A parent is 100% going in prison for doing this to their child. Travon Martin’s mother was also on hand and had this to say: “Our children’s lives matter. No one seems to understand that but us,” Fulton said. “So we have to fight for our children.” We can only hope that a prosecutor sees this case a clear cut criminal act and treat it accordingly.
