David Archuleta is Rooting for Andrew Garcia

He may be releasing a book and working on a new album, but David Archuleta still has time to watch American Idol . Asked by The Los Angeles Times about the new crop of contestants, the season seven runner-up said: “I think they’re really talented. They show a lot of their own personalities, and I liked that about them. And there’s some really good singers, too. Like Andrew Garcia , I like the character that he’s shown. I feel like there’s a lot of pressure for them because people are now expecting them to change up the songs, and they’re not sure exactly what to be showing people. “It’s matter of balance – changing the song enough to show who you are but still preserving the song for what made it magical.” As for his upcoming CD? “I’ve been working on it since January, but I had my first writing sessions in the summer, and I went to Nashville to write in October. Then the Christmas album came out and sort of took over, but I go back to Nashville this week. I just want it to sound more like me. “I want people to say, ‘This is David talking.’ Instead of just interpreting – and I’m sure there will be songs like that – I want to focus on showing people who I am, what my personality is like and hoping that I leave an impression on people.” He’s already left an impression on many people. Years after he exited the Idol stage, David remains one of the show’s most popular alums.

T.I. Talks New Single, ‘I’m Back,’ Announces New Album

MC, finishing up prison sentence, also suggests that he might tour this summer. By Shaheem Reid T.I.’s “I’m Back” Photo: Atlantic/Trap Muzik On the day the hip-hop nation lost one of its beloved and prolific megastars, another one has returned. Just hours after Lil Wayne was sentenced to one year in prison on weapons charges, T.I. gave the world notice that he’s returning with a vengeance. The King of the South announced to a select group of DJs in a conference call that his new album is coming out on August 24 — and, as expected, he released his new single, “I’m Back.” “I ain’t never let you down, I’mma shine on sight,” Tip raps on the song. “Keep your mind on your grind and off of mines alright / Hard, I’mma ball on those squares, I flow/ A quarter million dollar cars everywhere I go … No matter what they doin’ they don’t do it like me … recognize I’m back.” Later in the first verse, Tip lays the fiery brash delivery he’s beloved for. “You ain’t got a pimp bone in your body,” Tip chastises, throwing thunder at fraudulent MCs. “I can tell you ain’t never bought a key or caught a body/ N—a probably just seen Wayne, Gucci Mane, me and Boosie all go to prison/ Now he flip his whole image/ N—a trippin’/ Listen dude, for you that ain’t in the cards.” The song was produced new Grand Hustle producers the Trackslayerz, and is available for download at T.I.’s Web site . An hour before the song hit the Internet, Tip held the conference call, for which he did not take questions but reflected on the song and announced his album’s release date, according to audio of the call posted on DJ Judgemental’s Web site . There is a title for the LP, but he declined to reveal it. “I appreciate the support and how hard I was going in during the brief hiatus,” Tip said. “The support don’t go unnoticed and I don’t take it lightly. This marks a special day for us, because we putting out the first song off the album — not an official first single, just something to keeps the streets warm. It’s properly entitled ‘I’m Back.’ It’s a lot of things that needed to be spoken on. In my absence, it was a lot of things that went down, a lot of matters that needed to be addressed. This was the greatest platform for me to do it. It was the first song I did when I came home. You get me fresh out the box going in. I’m sure you guys will enjoy it.” Tip spoke for a little over three minutes. He said that he should traveling from city to this summer. “It ain’t gonna be long before all this is behind me,” he promised, referring to his prison sentence on weapons charges , which is expected to end within the next few weeks ; he was released to a halfway house in December and last month made his first public appearance since heading to prison. “Middle of April, beginning of May. Y’all gonna stay start seeing me. Y’all already know, once again it’s on. Like we always do this time.” The call ended with a final pledge of excellence from Tip. “As long as there is air in my esophagus, champ, I’mma keep going,” he said. “Nothing is gonna stop that. Nothing short of a 12 gauge is gonna stop me from doing what I do, champ. I just wanna say thank y’all and we gonna keep movin’ on.” Related Artists T.I.

Lil Wayne Joins Young Jeezy Onstage During Jay-Z’s NYC Show

Weezy, who was supposed to be sentenced to prison Tuesday, was also joined by Young Money’s Drake and Nicki Minaj. By Shaheem Reid Lil Wayne (file) Photo: Frank Micelotta/ Getty Images Jay-Z has said that Madison Square Garden should be called “The House That Hovie Built,” but on Tuesday night (March 2), Young Jeezy was the one who startled the sold-out Blueprint 3 Tour crowd by pulling the trump card that tore the roof off. The Snowman called out Young Money artists Nicki Minaj and Drake, as well as the label’s CEO, Lil Wayne. Jeezy came out about 45 minutes into Jay-Z’s set to perform “Real as It Gets.” Hov then turned the reins over to Jeezy, who threw out a few of his street-approved rhymes, like his verse on Shawty Lo’s “Dey Know.” Jeezy told the crowd that his friend Lil Wayne was supposed to go to jail that day , but a courthouse fire delayed his sentencing on weapons charges once again. Jeezy said he wanted to bring someone out to dedicate a record to him. Nicki Minaj then came out and did her verse from “Bedrock.” After the song, Jeezy told Nicki to stay, and the beat for “I’m Goin’ In” came on. Lil Wayne then emerged from the mini-stage where Jay’s Roc Boys band was playing and jumped on the main stage with Jeezy. The concertgoers — who were already on their feet — gave the New Orleans native a phenomenal response. Wayne’s face lit up as he rapped his verse. Drake then came out, breaking the night’s all-black dress code by wearing all white instead. The crowd gave Drizzy loud approval during his verse. Young Jeezy closed the song out, and all three men yelled the chorus: “I’m goin’ in, I’m goin’ in, and I’mma go hard!” “Jeezy, you a real n—a,” Wayne said, saluting the Snowman. “We with you 100 percent,” Young told Wayne. Jeezy told the fans to make some noise for Wayne and Young Money, which they were already doing. From there, the Atlanta rapper dug into his catalog with thumpers such as “Crazy World,” “Go Crazy” and “Go Getta.” Jeezy closed out his set by bringing out another guest, Akon, for “Soul Survivor.” Related Videos Lil Wayne’s ‘Road To Rikers’ Related Photos Lil Wayne Heads To Rikers Island Related Artists Lil Wayne Jay-Z

Estelle Addresses Use Of Black Makeup In ‘Freak’ Video

‘I could defend myself, but it’s just silly,’ singer says of ‘blackface’ criticism. By Hillary Crosley Estelle in the preview for her music video “Freak” Photo: EstelleMusic.com/ Youtube After her breakthough album Shine, British songstress-rapper Estelle has returned with a new single, “Freak,” from her forthcoming album, All of Me. However, the song’s video — segments of which show her wearing black makeup on her face and body — did not go over well with some of her fans online . “Those comments were the first thing I saw after we released the video trailer,” Estelle told MTV News on Monday (March 1). “It’s like, ‘Are you joking?’ ” The “Freak” clip was directed by frequent Kanye West collaborator Nabil Elderkin and the song itself is a bouncy dance-track produced by David Guetta, featuring Canadian MC Kardinal Offishall. The lyrics address people releasing their individuality and the clip features Estelle in a multitude of looks, including black body paint. However, the director said it’s meant to be in fun. “We are making a video about Estelle acting freaky and we’re gonna do lots of things: turns, fingers, beauty looks, freaky looks, fast dancers, it’s gonna be hot,” Elderkin says in the clip’s promotional trailer. (The director was unavailable for comment at press time.) Estelle said she and the director are longtime friends and he understands that her creative vision is “coming from a place of art versus just trying to be different.” She also declined to address the online chatter directly. “I think they need to wait to see the clip. I could defend myself, but it’s just silly,” Estelle said of the comments. “I’m black, so how do I do blackface? Missy did the same thing [with her video] “She’s a Bitch.” I refuse to defend it, I didn’t put any white ring around my mouth — never that.” Estelle said the “Freak” video will hit the web this week and her album will hits shelves this summer.
