My Chemical Romance Team With Fans On ‘Sing It For Japan’

Band will release charity version of latest single and fan-fueled video, with all proceeds going to Red Cross efforts. By James Montgomery My Chemical Romance’s Gerard Way Photo: Samir Hussein/ Getty Images My Chemical Romance have announced plans to release a charity version of their song “Sing,” with all proceeds going to the Red Cross’ disaster relief efforts in Japan. But they’re not doing it alone. Instead, they’re reaching out to members of their MCRmy to help the cause. The band is asking fans to submit videos, pictures, drawings and written messages to the people of Japan through social sites like Twitter — using the hashtag #SINGItForJapan — which they’ll then compile into a video to be paired with the song. “We’d like to send messages of hope to Japan from people all over the world. … Go wherever your creativity and heart takes you. It could be as simple as you holding up a sign with ‘#SINGItForJapan’ written on it, or anything else you can dream up,” guitarist Ray Toro wrote on the band’s official site. “From what we’ve seen on tour, we know you guys can dream bigger than we ever could. Don’t be afraid to get your families involved. If you are inspired to do something alone, that’s great too. But we encourage you to get a big group of people from your community together. We want Japan to know just how many people are behind them.” Toro added that the band got the idea after noticing that, in the aftermath of the earthquake and tsunamis that ravaged Japan, fans were sending messages of support to the nation using the hashtag. “After the news of the earthquake and tsunami spread, I did what most people did. I stopped and stared at the TV. I sat at the computer, constantly refreshing CNN in hopes of some good news,” he wrote. “And I went to Twitter to see what people were saying. I noticed a hashtag, ‘SINGItForJapan,’ where you kids were writing messages of hope, saying prayers and sending your condolences and well wishes to survivors. It moved me in a profound way.” The deadline for submissions is Wednesday, March 30, at 8 p.m. ET. There’s no news on just when the band’s new version of “Sing” will be made available, but for more information — and to submit material for #SINGItForJapan — check out My Chemical Romance’s official site . Britney Spears Electrifies Las Vegas With Nightclub Performance

Pop star hypes Femme Fatale ‘s release with flirty Friday night set. By Jocelyn Vena Britney Spears performs “Till the World Ends” at Rain Nightclub in the Palms Las Vegas Photo: Roderick Trestrail LAS VEGAS — After a killer set from “Jersey Shore” star DJ Pauly D on Friday night (March 25), a montage of Britney Spears’ best video moments played to a hyped crowd at Rain nightclub inside the Palms Casino and Resort. Once the videos wrapped, the crowd went even crazier as the Femme Fatale herself hit the stage. Spears sported a stunning sequined bodysuit and performed her first song of the night, lead single “Hold It Against Me.” Flanked by sexy male dancers, she sashayed her way through the song, which included sexy hair-tossing and a wind machine. For her second track of the night, Spears debuted the will.i.am-produced track “Big Fat Bass.” Her dancers hit the stage in bright yellow, while Spears opted for a body-hugging latex bodysuit. She emerged from a speaker box, and the appearance had her fans screaming. The track was remixed to include past hits like “3,” “Slave 4 U” and “Gimme More.” She danced around the stage and climbed up on speakers as she danced to the track. Britney kicked it up a few futuristic notches for her latest club banger, “Till the World Ends.” The stage was filled with ladders, LED lighting, dancers and Spears in a black latex bodysuit covered in red lights. She clearly was having a good time, smiling to her fans. Her choreography was decidedly sexy, including flirty dance moves with her male dancers. At the end, Spears ascended the ladders and ended up on a platform, gyrating from above the room. As fireworks lit the stage, Spears danced and tossed her hair as the song closed. The room was filled with electricity and excitement. The performance was being taped by MTV for a special airing next week. A teaser will debut Tuesday on MTV, the same day Spears’ latest album, Femme Fatale, hits stores. Did you see Britney perform in Vegas? Share your reviews in the comments! Lady Gaga Releases Country Version Of ‘Born This Way’

New take on hit song, dubbed ‘The Country Road Version,’ features slide guitar, mandolin and harmonica. By Gil Kaufman Lady Gaga Photo: Jason Merritt/ Getty Images You can take all those Madonna comparisons and throw them out the window of your Ford F-150 truck, because on Thursday night Lady Gaga released a whole new version of her global smash “Born This Way” that featured a totally unexpected spin. After tweeting to her Little Monsters that she was preparing to release “Born This Way (The Country Road Version),” Mother Monster dropped the tune at midnight PT on Friday (March 25) via her Twitter account … and it did not disappoint. The new rendition of the hit opens with ominous, swirling guitars and then introduces a fuzzed-out slide guitar and harmonica wheeze, with all of the thumping disco beats replaced by restrained brush drumming and a more laid-back vibe. Once it kicks into the first chorus, the song continues to take its time, choogling along on live-sounding, laconic drumming and lots of soulful harmonica. Just before the three-minute mark, Gaga mixes in some new lyrics, drawling, “If I wanna make it country, baby, then it’s OK, cuz I was born, I was born, I was born this way,” over picked mandolin. “From London, Paris, Japan back to USA/ I was born on the road, I was born to be brave,” she adds, as the song breaks into full-on country-rock mode reminiscent of late-period Bon Jovi in the final minute. Meanwhile, the original, non-boot-scooting version of “BTW” notched its sixth week in a row at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 charts this week, which is what Gaga said prompted her to drop the surprise remake on her fans. Earlier this week, Gaga revealed that she’s almost done recording her Born This Way album , telling fans via Twitter, “In Nebraska, finishing up record today … I’m so proud of the album: I keep dancing+drinking: metal/techno rock journey of a woman on the run.” Plans are now being worked up for the tour in support of Born This Way (due out May 23) and Gaga’s first swing at directing, a collaboration with her creative director, Laurieann Gibson, on the video for the album’s upcoming second single, “Judas.” What do you think of Gaga’s twanged-up version of “Born This Way”? Demi Lovato Heads Back To Work

‘First day back to working,’ singer tweets, without revealing details of project. By Jocelyn Vena Demi Lovato Photo: George Pimentel/ Getty Images Demi Lovato is ready to work again. The star, who recently checked out of a treatment center after dealing with personal issues, tweeted on Tuesday that she’s back to doing something, without revealing what her next big gig is. “First day back to working. I can’t wait to share with you guys what I’m doing today,” she wrote on Twitter . “It’s a big day for me. So excited! I love you all!!!” While she didn’t say what she was doing, she did reveal whom she was doing it with. “Wow what a very long but successful day today!! I’m SO blessed to have my friend @Alexavega with me ALL day for support!” she wrote, tweeting a photo of her and the “Spy Kids” star together. “Seriously so blessed for the friends in my life. Love them, AND love you guys too!!” Her reps remained mum on what the project is when contacted by MTV News, but E! News reports that Disney reps confirmed that Lovato is not back on the “Sonny With a Chance” set. Earlier this month, Lovato teased a new project in a similarly mysterious way, not getting into the specifics of what she was planning next. “I wanted to let you guys know that I’m excited to get back to work. I can’t wait to tell you guys what the future holds,” she said. “I can’t wait to see you in person. I love you all and I couldn’t have done this without you.” In addition to the new gig, Lovato recently revealed some new body art. “The journey that I went through and the support of my fans was so meaningful to me that I wanted to thank my fans in a way that I know can never be forgotten,” the explained. “So I went ahead and I got a little heart tattoo on my wrist. “It’s something that my fans were actually drawing on their wrists while I was still in treatment. Some people even got tattoos of it, so I wanted to show you guys that I will never forget the support that you guys gave me,” Lovato added. Lil Wayne Sued For $20 Million By ‘Lollipop’ Producer

Producer Deezle says he hasn’t gotten his fair cut of the song’s sales. By Gil Kaufman Lil Wayne Photo: Frederick M. Brown/ Getty Images It’s almost a given. An artist scores a major hit that sells millions of records and a short time later is sued by someone either claiming he or she actually wrote the song or worked on it and didn’t get a fair slice of the pie. Cue the lawsuit from the producer Darius Harrison (a.k.a. Deezle), who has filed a court action against Young Money Entertainment and Cash Money Records, claiming that he has not gotten his paper from the sales of Lil Wayne’s smash hit “Lollipop” and the album it was featured on, Tha Carter III. According to TMZ , the $20 million lawsuit claims that Deezle, who says he produced “Whip It,” “Prostitute 2,” “Action,” “Mrs. Officer” and “Let the Beat Build” as well as “Lollipop,” is entitled to his cut of royalties on the reported $70 million the album has grossed on sales of 6 million copies. “Lollipop” hit #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and won a Grammy for Best Rap Song in 2009. Harrison previously sued Wayne for $2.5 million over what he claimed were unpaid royalties from the sales of “Mrs. Officer.” The liner notes to Carter list Harrison as a co-producer along with Jim Jonsin on “Lollipop” and as the recording engineer on most of the other songs on the disc. A spokesperson for Wayne and Young Money/ Cash Money could not be reached for comment at press time on the lawsuit. In the meantime, Wayne has been working on putting the latest member of his crew into the spotlight: Lil Twist. “That’s where I get my little oomph from, when I bring my whole clique out there, and I want them to be heard,” Wayne told MTV News last week. “I remember when [Bad Boy] had Total, Biggie, Ma$e, Junior Mafia, all of them other people. Then you think of the Roc. We’re more so like the Roc. ‘Cause Jay always had artists the world didn’t know, but he put them on the proper song and everybody knows the song. But this time around, I want you to know the song, I want you to know the person, I want you to know us. And it’s no secret about it, I got the toughest team in the game right now and later.” Related Artists Lil Wayne

Chris Brown’s ‘Beautiful People’ Video Premieres

New video debuts same day Brown made headlines for ‘Good Morning America’ outburst. By James Montgomery Chris Brown in “Beautiful People” Photo: Jive Chris Brown’s new album is called F.A.M.E., an acronym for “Forgiving All My Enemies.” Of course, as his actions on Tuesday’s (March 22) “Good Morning America” proved, if his post-show outburst was even half as extreme as reports have made it out to be, he might not have taken that title to heart just yet. The timing of his behavior following “GMA” was problematic, to say the least: Not only did it occur on the day F.A.M.E. hit stores, but it also happened hours before he was set to premiere the video for his latest single, “Beautiful People,” during MTV’s “The Seven.” Somewhat understandably, given the backlash that followed his alleged window-smashing at ABC’s studios, Brown canceled his appearance on MTV’s show, but the “People” video premiered nonetheless. Much like everything involving Brown since his 2009 assault on then-girlfriend Rihanna , how you feel about him will probably affect how you feel about his new clip. Some may see its scenes of Brown hamming it up in the studio with the likes of Pharrell and Timbaland as nothing short of garish, while others could view them as glimpses into a man who has made his penance and now is trying very hard to move on with his life. His detractors can never forgive him for his past indiscretions, and his supporters — having already forgiven him — want nothing more than to see him smile occasionally. And both sides are right. So while the “Beautiful People” video is sure to be divisive, the song most certainly is not. Because it’s totally great: a throbbing, nocturnal knocker of a track that’s dipped in equal parts swagger and studio lacquer. Producer Benny Benassi leaves his clubby touches all over the song, infusing it with house thump and a touch of Italo-boogie. Brown’s vocals are almost an afterthought; smoothed out in the studio and downright supple, his voice is almost like the lightweight chassis atop a very expensive, very fast foreign sports car. It speeds along and handles beautifully. It’s not a stretch to call “Beautiful People” not only one of the year’s most unexpected singles, but also one of the best. Of course, some folks might not even listen to it or watch the video. That’s a shame, but in some regards, I can’t blame them. Then again, sometimes it’s best to leave the judgment up to the court of public opinion and focus instead on the product at hand. Love him or hate him, with “Beautiful People,” Chris Brown has proven that he’s not going anywhere for a while, whether you like it or not. What do you think of Brown’s new video? Jennifer Hudson Says R. Kelly, Alicia Keys ‘Gave Me My Sound’ For I Remember Me

Singer calls Kelly’s ability to channel her ‘kind of creepy.’ By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Christina Garibaldi Jennifer Hudson Photo: MTV News On Tuesday, Jennifer Hudson drops her new album, I Remember Me , and it seems the artists she worked with on the record also remembered her. For the release, she hooked up with Alicia Keys and R. Kelly, who seemed to channel the singer perfectly — almost too perfectly. “R. Kelly was writing for me at the time, and I didn’t even know it, and they just sent me this song,” she recalled to MTV News about the track “Where You At.” “You don’t want to get your hopes up too high of being able to work with someone like R. Kelly, and when they sent the song, they told me, ‘Kelly put up a shrine of pictures of you to channel you, and he created this song.’ ” Whatever he was doing seemed to really work, as Hudson explained: “It was kind of creepy to me, because when I heard the song, I was like, ‘Oh my god! … He’s, like, giving me me! This is what I would do! This is something I would say.’ And I hadn’t even met him until after … and I’m like, ‘This is bizarre.’ ” Crediting Kelly and Keys, Hudson notes that “they gave me my sound.” And it seems whatever otherworldly bond she had with Kelly, she had a more-grounded one with Keys, with whom she worked on the songs “Angel,” “Everybody Needs Love” and “Don’t Look Down.” “I must say that working with Alicia was my favorite sessions in the recording studio ever, and I think it was partly because … it was a learning experience,” she said about Keys, who gave birth days after their sessions. “She’s just amazing to work with. We had such a good time together. … It was an amazing, fun experience.” Which I Remember Me collaboration are you most looking forward to hearing? Tell us in the comments below!
