Jennifer Hudson Says R. Kelly, Alicia Keys ‘Gave Me My Sound’ For I Remember Me

Singer calls Kelly’s ability to channel her ‘kind of creepy.’ By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Christina Garibaldi Jennifer Hudson Photo: MTV News On Tuesday, Jennifer Hudson drops her new album, I Remember Me , and it seems the artists she worked with on the record also remembered her. For the release, she hooked up with Alicia Keys and R. Kelly, who seemed to channel the singer perfectly — almost too perfectly. “R. Kelly was writing for me at the time, and I didn’t even know it, and they just sent me this song,” she recalled to MTV News about the track “Where You At.” “You don’t want to get your hopes up too high of being able to work with someone like R. Kelly, and when they sent the song, they told me, ‘Kelly put up a shrine of pictures of you to channel you, and he created this song.’ ” Whatever he was doing seemed to really work, as Hudson explained: “It was kind of creepy to me, because when I heard the song, I was like, ‘Oh my god! … He’s, like, giving me me! This is what I would do! This is something I would say.’ And I hadn’t even met him until after … and I’m like, ‘This is bizarre.’ ” Crediting Kelly and Keys, Hudson notes that “they gave me my sound.” And it seems whatever otherworldly bond she had with Kelly, she had a more-grounded one with Keys, with whom she worked on the songs “Angel,” “Everybody Needs Love” and “Don’t Look Down.” “I must say that working with Alicia was my favorite sessions in the recording studio ever, and I think it was partly because … it was a learning experience,” she said about Keys, who gave birth days after their sessions. “She’s just amazing to work with. We had such a good time together. … It was an amazing, fun experience.” Which I Remember Me collaboration are you most looking forward to hearing? Tell us in the comments below! Kanye West Brings G.O.O.D. Music, Jay-Z To Texas For SXSW

Yeezy closes the music fest after 4 a.m. By Paul Cantor Kanye West and Jay-Z perform in Austin, Texas on Saturday Photo: Daniel Boczarski/Getty Images AUSTIN, Texas — South by Southwest 2011 had its fair share of amazing performances this year, but Kanye West’s show Saturday night at the Vevo Power Plant was certainly hard to top. Officially billed as Vevo Presents: G.O.O.D. Music featuring Kanye West, John Legend, Common, Kid Cudi, Mos Def and more, the event concluded with a 90-minute Kanye set that ran until just past 4 a.m. Photos from the G.O.O.D. Music show with Kanye, Jay-Z and more. The night’s festivities were opened by Mos Def. Dressed in black and wearing a shiny costume mask, he performed songs like “Oh No” and “Casa Bey” before ceding the stage to Pusha T. Pusha greeted fans with the Clipse’s “Grindin’ ” and closed with the popular mixtape cut “Fear of God.” He was followed by Big Sean and then Cyhi Da Prince, who performed with a violinist. While Mr. Hudson’s songs seemed largely foreign to the diverse audience, in a bit of foreshadowing, he closed with his hook from Jay-Z’s “Forever Young.” Then, a short dance sequence by Fonzworth Bentley lead to a Kid Cudi set. Cudi had fans fist-pumping to the Crookers remix of “Day ‘N’ Nite” then singing a cappella along with him to “Pursuit of Happiness.” Then it was time for the main event. At roughly 2:30 a.m., after fans had braved hours on their feet (including the time spent waiting in line to get in since the early afternoon), Kanye West sauntered onto a stage draped in red light. The operatic flourishes of “Dark Fantasy,” from his latest LP, My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, rose in volume as his silhouette appeared. Backed by DJ Cassidy, ‘Ye — in a black leather jacket, black gloves and black sunglasses — tore through the opening cut. After revisiting his older catalog with “Can’t Tell Me Nothing,” he stepped back to the current day and brought John Legend out to perform the popular G.O.O.D. Friday track “Christian Dior Denim Flow.” Legend stayed onstage and they performed “Blame Game” together before John manned the keys solo for “Ordinary People.” The night hit its stride when ‘Ye brought out the MPC for a VMA-like performance of “Runaway.” He danced around stage as the beat played, and harmonized during an extended outro. As the song ended, he put his head down, clutched the microphone and turned his back to the crowd. A brass band joined him for “All of the Lights” and the venue seemed to shake beneath the song’s heavy kick drums. Kanye then exited the stage, only to return with Jay-Z. They performed “H.A.M.” together, then ran through a medley of songs they’re both featured on. “Swagga Like Us” kicked in, but Kanye lost track of the tune. “I forgot that one,” he admitted. It was Jay-Z’s turn to take over the set, and of course, diamonds were in the sky for “Public Service Announcement.” “Austin, Texas, if you’re having a good time with G.O.O.D. Music tonight, make some noise!” Jay said. Jay finished, appropriately, with “Big Pimpin,” the cut that features popular Texas-bred rappers UGK. Hov led the crowd in reciting the late Pimp C’s verse before leaving the stage. The show switched back to Kanye’s newer material, and when “Lost in the World” began, Bon Iver’s Justin Vernon took the stage. Dressed in black, staring straight down, he sang his haunting verse while Kanye returned to perform the rest of the song. Everyone from G.O.O.D. Music joined Kanye onstage to sing the chorus of the final song, “Good Life,” as West drew the show to a close. Related Photos 2011 SXSW Music Festival Related Artists Kanye West Jay-Z

Miley Cyrus May Release ‘Every Rose Has Its Thorn,’ Bret Michaels Says

Poison frontman says he expects the teen star’s cover version to be issued as a single later this year. By Jocelyn Vena Miley Cyrus Photo: Getty Images Last year, Miley Cyrus declared that she Can’t Be Tamed . The album features a cover of the Poison classic “Every Rose Has Its Thorn” that the teen star recorded with the glam-metal band’s frontman, Bret Michaels, himself. And now, according to Michaels, the track likely will be released later in 2011 as a single … finally. The Poison singer told to E! News that Cyrus’ label initially had intended to issue her version of the song as a single much sooner, but those plans were sidetracked thanks to a bit of tabloid drama involving Michaels. “The record label was supposed have to this huge humongous release of ‘Every Rose,’ ” the rocker explained. “It was going to be Miley’s next-step song, but because of that, they stepped back. It really bummed me out. I worked hard on that.” The “that” he’s referring to is his rumored affair with Miley’s mom, Tish, which allegedly may have contributed to the short separation of Cyrus’ parents. Now, with that relationship back on track, so apparently are plans to release the song, which seems to really please the Poison frontman. “I think this is the song that will cross her over,” Michaels said. “If it happens, it’s going to be a big hit.” A rep at Miley’s record label had not responded to MTV News request for comment about plans for the song’s released as a single at press time. Last year, MTV News spoke to Michaels about working on “Every Rose” with Miley, and he really sang the teen star’s praises in the music-cred department. “She’s one of the few musicians — and I want to use that word, ’cause she can actually play and sing — she’s one of the few people who can pull it off and give it her own flare and make it sound good,” Michaels offered. “I gotta tell you something — she nailed the song. She really knew what she was doing. She got in there and picked the guitar up … It was one of those nights that just worked. It was fun … It’s gotta be her taking ‘Every Rose’ and making it all hers.” What do you think about Miley’s cover of “Every Rose Has Its Thorn” being released as a single? Tell us in the comments. Fergie opened the song, sitting atop the all-white piano and wearing a white halter dress, singing the first few notes of the new track. Eventually will, dressed in a white suit, stood up from behind the piano and joined her onstage to sing, while the other Peas members, apl.de.ap and Taboo, also dressed in white, danced, sang and rapped alongside them. Behind them onstage, string players performed, dancers twirled about and couples acted out skits. They ended the performance by jumping around and encouraging the audience to leap to their feet and clap along. BEP have been doing their best to help relief efforts in Japan. The song’s video, which premiered on Wednesday, was also dedicated to the embattled island nation, where the group shot the clip just one week before the earthquake and tsunami struck. We love you.” This wasn’t the first “American Idol” appearance for the Black Eyed Peas. Dwayne Wade Wins Custody Battle Against Ex-Wife

See more here:

Miami Heat baller Dwayne Wade was awarded full custody of his sons against ex-wife, Siohvaughn. The two divorced in 2007 and the battle for custody of the two kids was very long, and got pretty ugly, but now it’s finally over. The judge ruled that Shiovaughn would have “regular parenting time” meaning that she would be allowed to see her sons on alternating weekends, some holidays and half of the summer. ESPN reported that when D.Wade broke the news to his fellow teammates after their win over the Grizzles this past Saturday night, they gave him a standing ovation on the locker room. According to necolebitchie.com , D.Wade’s lawyers stated that his ex-wife interfered with his visitation rights and kept the children from him and that she also had patterns of erratic behavior. Perhaps this is one of the reasons Dwayne was awarded full custody? After receiving the news that he had full custody of the two boys, D.Wade made a statement to the Associated Press : “My life changed in a huge way. Mentally, I’ve been preparing for it for over a year now. To me, it’s bigger than that. For me, it shows a lot of people that you need to fight to be in your kids’ lives sometimes. You fight until you can’t fight any more. That’s all I was trying to be, a father in his kids’ lives.  I think them living here, being here, it’s a great opportunity for them and I’m looking forward to it for them, to grow up with me and us learning together, how to be father-son. So I’m excited.” Read the full story here. Gabrielle Union On Dwayne Wade: “No Baby Without A Wedding” Jay-Z & LeBron Host 5th Annual “2 Kings” Dinner [PHOTOS] Top 5 Worst Husbands Of 2010 [PHOTOS]
