Fantasia’s Alleged Boyfriend Antwaun Cook Defends Singer

‘The failure of his marriage can in no way be blamed on anyone except the two people that were a part of the union,’ Cook’s lawyer says. By Mawuse Ziegbe Fantasia Photo: Getty Images Many fans have suggested that Fantasia Barrino is in the wrong for allegedly taking up with a married man. However, the married man in question, Antwaun Cook, says the singer is not responsible for breaking up his relationship. “He knew Fantasia Barrino but the failure of his marriage can in no way be blamed on anyone except the two people that were a part of the union — Paula and Antwaun,” Cook’s lawyer, Nicole Sodoma, said in a statement on Wednesday (August 18). Sodoma also says that Cook and his wife have been separated for about a year. “Paula and Antwaun married in 2005. They expected their marriage to stand the test of time,” Sodoma said in the statement. “Unfortunately, like many marriages, it did not turn out as planned. In late summer 2009, after years of discussion, the parties separated with the intention of no longer being married.” Last week, Barrino was hospitalized following an apparent suicide attempt. The season-three “American Idol” winner suffered a drug overdose after ingesting a combination of aspirin and a sleep aid. Rumors abounded that the singer’s alleged relationship with Cook was a factor in her apparent attempt to take her own life. The incident occurred roughly a week after Cook’s wife, Paula, filed court documents alleging that her spouse and Barrino engaged in a “covert adulterous affair” and created a sex tape together . Despite recovering from her overdose and weathering criticism from fans about her alleged relationship with Cook, Barrino is already back to promoting her new album . The “Bittersweet” singer has several scheduled television appearances in the next few weeks as she builds buzz for the release for her third album, Back to Me, which is set to drop on August 24. The single “Bittersweet” is currently at #10 on the Billboard R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart. What do you think about all of the attention surrounding Antwaun Cook and Fantasia Barrino’s relationship? Jonas Brothers Fans Set Up ‘Camp Rock’ In Central Park

Diehards descend on Manhattan for group’s second ‘Good Morning America’ appearance of the summer. By Christopher MacAllister Nick Jonas performs on “Good Morning America” Photo: Bryan Bedder/ Getty Images On Friday (August 13), the Jonas Brothers and the cast of Disney’s forthcoming “Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam” took to the “Good Morning America” stage in Central Park, where they performed a short concert for a crowd filled with rapturous fans. MTV News caught up with a few people who were in the audience for the Jonas Brothers’ second “GMA” appearance this summer , including some fans who arrived as early as 2 a.m. in hopes that they would snag a good spot in the crowd. Two friends, Alie and Rachel, were rhapsodic about the show: “It was the best experience ever, and they sang [their songs] perfectly, and they’re so hot,” said one of them. Their enthusiasm was heightened by the fact that they were close enough to get up close and personal with one of the brothers. “I got to hug Joe,” one said, with the other quickly adding, “And I got to touch his leg! ” Alexa and Jen, who have been to multiple Jonas Brothers concerts, noted that this show was a change from what they were used to seeing. “It was different than what their normal concerts were, but that’s because it’s ‘Good Morning America,’ ” said one. “I liked that it was a lot of the ‘Camp Rock’ [material] with Demi as well.” Many of the fans surveyed couldn’t pick a favorite song from the Jonas Brothers’ set, but some cited “It’s On,” from the “Camp Rock 2” soundtrack, as one of the morning’s highlights. Bun B Hopes To Shoot Trill O.G. Videos With Drake

‘It’s always a good thing when me and the young boy get together,’ he tells MTV News. By Jayson Rodriguez Bun B Photo: MTV News Bun B and Drake are on a hot streak together, from their first collaboration “Uptown” to their most recent tracks “Put It Down” and “It’s Been a Pleasure” The UGK rapper opened for Drake earlier this month as a part of the Toronto star’s OVO Fest , and while he was in town, he tried to rope in his collaborator to shoot a video. The plan didn’t work out due to Drake’s busy schedule, but Bun said he plans to shoot videos for their songs and as many on his album, Trill O.G., as he can. “Definitely look for some visuals for ‘Put It Down’ in the future,” Bun told MTV News. “As well as ‘It’s Been a Pleasure.’ We’re gonna try to put out a visual for as much of Trill O.G. as we can.” A snippet of “Put It Down” leaked onto the Web well ahead of the album’s release, but now that Trill O.G. has arrived, the reaction to the Drake-assisted track has been high. “It’s very hard to live up to the hype the people create for things nowadays; luckily, this song did,” he said. ” ‘Cause a lot of time, people build something up, and it’s almost impossible to match up to that. In this case, it matched up to it. And the fact that the other song, ‘It’s Been a Pleasure,’ is on it, as well, you get two for two. It’s always a good thing when me and the young boy get together. It’s special music. That’s how I feel, and I think that’s how Drizzy feels.” What do you think about Bun B and Drake’s chemistry? Let us know in the comments!

Joe Jonas Gushes About Filming ‘Hot In Cleveland’ Cameo With Betty White

‘Watching Betty White knit is just so adorable,’ he tells MTV News. By Kara Warner Joe Jonas Photo: MTV News Somewhere in between preparing for and launching the current Jonas Brothers tour and starring in Disney’s “Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam,” Joe Jonas found the time to do a guest spot on TV Land’s new hit, “Hot in Cleveland.” MTV News was invited to visit the set recently to catch a glimpse of the middle Jonas in action. In the episode, which airs Wednesday night (August 11), Jonas’ character comes to visit his newly transplanted mom, played by Valerie Bertinelli. In the scene we watched, mother and son sit down to reconnect at a restaurant, and Jonas plays the “typical aloof teen” to a T — he is texting friends throughout the conversation, despite his mom’s attempts to capture his attention. When we caught up with the 20-year-old between takes, Jonas said despite having prior sitcom work in his own TV series “JONAS” on the Disney Channel, work on the “Cleveland” set was a completely new experience. “We don’t have a live audience,” he said of the major difference. “And I’m hanging out with some amazing actresses. They are just incredible. Everyone on the set is just so talented. I’m playing Valerie’s son, and I’m having a lot of fun. We rehearsed, and we just shot our first scene together, so hopefully it will look all right.” Asked if TV veteran Bertinelli or co-stars Wendy Malick, Jane Leeves and Betty White had imparted any advice, Jonas said he was just trying to soak up everything from the actresses. “Just being around them, they are so talented that you just learn so much from them so quickly,” he said. “And hanging out with them and watching Betty White knit is just so adorable, so I’m having a great time.” Speaking of White, we threw Jonas a curveball by asking: If Joe could be any Golden Girl, which one would he be? “Betty, of course. Rose, yes,” he said. “It’s kinda an odd question to ask which Golden Girl I would be, but my favorite would just have to be Betty, because I know her now.” Will you check out Joe Jonas’ guest-starring role on “Hot in Cleveland”? ‘Scott Pilgrim’ Stars On Learning To Play Music Like Rock Stars

‘I had guitar lessons, and I struggled,’ confesses Mark Webber. By Eric Ditzian, with reporting by Rick Marshall Mark Webber and Michael Cera in “Scott Pilgrim vs. The World” Photo: Universal Pictures From the very first scene in “Scott Pilgrim vs. the World” in which Michael Cera and his Sex Bob-Omb bandmates strap on their instruments and bust out some serious rock-and-roll thunder, director Edgar Wright’s new flick crackles with musical verve. There are band battles, tons of talk about record contracts and artist jealousy, and a soundtrack as important to the mood of each scene as the words coming out of each character’s mouth. Cera has strummed chords before, in “Juno” and “Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist,” but not all of his castmates had musical experience when they signed on to this adaptation of Bryan Lee O’Malley’s graphic novel series. So Wright threw his actors into rock-and-roll boot camp, and with the help of some pros, they ended up learning how to wail.

Demi Lovato’s Album Wish List Includes Drake And Trey Songz

‘It would be hot!’ singer says of teaming up with the hip-hop and R&B heavyweights. By Jocelyn Vena Demi Lovato Photo: MTV News Demi Lovato is looking to try her hand at R&B on her next album. While she has cited Rihanna as an influence for the album’s vibe, she has two of R&B and hip hop’s most recognizable voices in mind as dream collaborators for the album, which she is currently hard at work on while hitting the road with the Jonas Brothers . “I would love for Drake to be on the album,” she said. “It’s kind of like a pipe dream. I would also like to do a song with Trey Songz. It would be hot! Yeah, it would be really good.” While Drake and Trey aren’t onboard (yet, anyway), fans can expect Demi to turn her sound upside down on the upcoming LP. “I’ve been working with a few producers,” she told MTV News. “I don’t know if I can talk about it, but I’m excited to start working with more people.” Lovato, who has always displayed her big voice on her songs and the “Camp Rock” soundtracks , is ready to show the world just what that sounds like on these new songs. “I’m working on new music, writing new songs, trying to approach a different route, doing a new sound,” Lovato said. “I’m really excited. It’ll be fun. It’s more R&B/pop. I’m trying to bring out my inner ‘soul’ ; a new side of Demi,” she laughed. “I’m straying away from the rock this time.” What R&B and hip-hop stars do you hope Demi teams up with? Demi Lovato Says ‘Camp Rock 2’ Album Has ‘Emotional’ Tracks

‘There are times where we pay more attention to the older crowd,’ she tells MTV News of Disney soundtrack. By Jocelyn Vena Demi Lovato Photo: MTV News With only a few weeks left until the September 3 premiere of “Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam” on the Disney Channel, fans can prepare by getting familiar with the tunes from the movie’s soundtrack, out Tuesday (August 10). Not only is it chock-full of catchy pop tunes co-stars Demi Lovato and the Jonas Brothers are currently playing on tour , but with tracks written by the likes of Kara DioGuardi and Toby Gad, the album is sure to have fans dancing in their living rooms. But while the entire album will please “Camp Rock” followers, it’s the songs with the bigger heart that have deeper meaning for Lovato. “I’m really excited for fans to hear pretty much all the songs. A lot of the songs are really fun and they’re dance songs, but there’s also songs that are kind of emotional,” Lovato told MTV News at tour rehearsals . ” ‘It’s Not Too Late,’ I really enjoyed singing it. I loved performing it,” she added. “And also ‘Wouldn’t Change a Thing’ is a song that’s really fun to perform because I really get to showcase my voice.” Of course fans will enjoy hearing “Wouldn’t Change a Thing,” if only because it reunites Lovato and Joe Jonas — on record, at least. “Yeah, it sounds really great [performed live],” she said. “And it’s fun too. We’re having a good time with it.” Although the “Camp Rock 2” soundtrack songs aren’t official Lovato tracks, the singer said she works hard to get into the right headspace to interpret the songs. And she loves singing, which makes it a lot easier. “You know, not all of the songs are emotional because it’s a Disney musical movie, so we like to keep it really upbeat, especially when it’s aged towards a younger demographic,” she explained. “Kids lose interest, so you have to keep it upbeat, but sometimes there are times where we pay more attention to the older crowd and one of the songs being ‘It’s Not Too Late.’ Even though it’s not my song that I wrote or even that’s going to be on my album, I’m able to put my personal experiences into it. “I really enjoy singing, whether it’s my own songs or other people’s songs.” What’s your favorite song on the “Camp Rock 2” soundtrack? Green Day Bring The Power, Phoenix Add The Finesse: Saturday At Lollapalooza

Saturday night’s headliners were a scintillating study of contrasts. Green Day’s Billie Joe Armstrong performs at Lollapalooza on Saturday Photo: Rich Sancho/ MTV News CHICAGO — Unless you happen to play in one of Perry Farrell’s bands (and that band happens to be Jane’s Addiction), the opportunity to headline Lollapalooza doesn’t come around all that often. So, if you get your shot, you might as well go for it. And that was very much the mindset of both of Saturday’s (August 7) bill-toppers, though, much like Friday night’s Lady Gaga/Strokes face-off , Green Day and Phoenix were a study in contrasts. Both definitely rocked, they just did in very different ways. Green Day, of course, pummeled, powered, and pulled out all the stops during their two-plus hour set, reaching deep into their expansive back catalog and using every crowd-pleasing trick in the rock-band hat. And then they invented a few more stunts just for the sake of it. Seriously, if it weren’t for the city of Chicago’s noise ordinances, they’d probably still be at it. Bottle-blonde Billie Joe Armstrong bounded back and forth across the stage, led the crowd in countless sing-a-longs, pranced, danced, collapsed, rose again, and at one point, played a solo with his guitar behind his head. While standing on one leg. He pulled kids young and old from the crowd–letting them sing choruses (on “East Jesus Nowhere”) or entire songs (“Longview,” which was belted out by a kid who totally, completely killed it), assisting them in stage dives, or fire off water cannons. He shouted “Chicago!” more times than the entire Daley clan combined. He donned a feather boa. He mooned the crowd. He fired off T-shirt cannons and toilet paper guns. And at no point did he appear to even be the slightest bit tired. “They said they’re gonna pull the plug on us at 10 … I told them to kiss my f–king ass, we’ll play for as long as we want,” he shouted at one point. “You paid your hard-earned money to buy a ticket to tonight,” he yelled later in the set. “It is my honor and my privilege to give you the best f—ing show you’ve ever seen in your life.” And judging by the boundless energy displayed by his Green Day mates, he wasn’t the only one feeling this way. Mike Dirnt scowled and strutted, always keeping his bass thuddingly precise. Tre Cool vamped it up on an extended version of the Isley Brother’s “Shout” (while wearing a sun hat, horn-rimmed spectacles and a red brazier, it should be noted), and kept the back beat cracking. At this point, Green Day are a poundingly precise Rock and Roll machine, as evidenced by the covers they effortlessly worked into the set–everything from the opening riffs of Black Sabbath’s “Iron Man,” and the first verse of the Guns ‘N Roses “Sweet Child O’ Mine” to the chorus of the Beatles’ “Hey Jude”–and the sheer spectacle of their show, an eye-popping, ear-splitting series of pyro bursts and fireworks explosions. Oh, and obviously, the songs were pretty terrific too: “21st Century Breakdown” spanned several changes but was always focused and crowd-uniting, “Hitching A Ride” thundered along and eventually broke into a fiery crescendo, “She” was zip-gun speedy, and “Brain Stew/Jaded” started crunchy and static, stretched into a lengthy jam (complete with water/T-shirt cannon interlude), then came rifling home at a breakneck pace. There were a dozen other highlights. Simply put, Green Day know how to put on a rock show. A big, loud, bombastic one. And when they finally closed with “Jesus of Suburbia,” they certainly didn’t need a break … but the crowd might very well have. Meanwhile, on the other side of Grant Park, there was a rock show of a different sort happening. On the one hand, Phoenix aren’t the typical Lollapalooza headliner. For one thing, they are French — as in, extremely French. Their brand of European formalism doesn’t necessarily jive with the freewheeling energy on the grounds at Lolla. Then again, they’re really the ideal headliner for Saturday night. Their jaunty mix of jangly indie rock, easy singalong melodies and groovy, dance-friendly electronic froth sound like the favorite band of one of the characters on Perry Farrell’s Satellite Party record. After a warm day at Lollapalooza, they provided a soothing antidote to the heat and the growing exhaustion among the festival-goers. Their smooth, easy tunes cascaded over Grant Park and engulfed the thousands gathered in a swirl of Euro-disco-rock giddiness. Frontman Thomas Mars seemed genuinely touched by the heavy crowd gathered for their headlining set. They turned up the energy immediately, kicking off the set with “Lisztomania,” the kickoff track from their Grammy-winning album Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix . Though the clearly committed crowd greeted the group’s older tunes (like “Long Distance Call” and “Everything Is Everything”) warmly, it was the Wolfgang songs that really won the evening. The ubiquitous “1901” surfed its killer synth riff into the ether, while “Lasso” inspired all sorts of manic dance moves among the revelers. It was a fitting end to a funky, groovy day at Lollapalooza. Cut Copy preempted the Phoenix set with a batch of pounding beat science, Spoon brought a classic rock swagger to their deep catalog, AFI super-charged the afternoon with a blast of glammy goth and Against Me! laid out the huge riffs of White Crosses for a refreshing aggro jolt. With 48 hours of Lollapalooza in the books, the energy remains high and the performances continue to deliver in surprising ways. Just probably not at the same level Green Day did. Or Phoenix, too.
