Minister Convinces Teen Girls That Sex With Him Will Prevent Pregnancy And Disease A South Carolina “minister” will more than likely now be spreading the good word from behind bars sooner than later after he was recently accused of convincing under aged girls that having sex wit him would prevent pregnancy and diseases. via Huffington Post A South Carolina minister is accused of telling underage girls that the sex acts he performed on them would keep them from getting pregnant, contracting sexual diseases and liking other females. WLTX reports that Larry Durant, 58, of Word International Ministries in Sumter is accused in court documents of leading “private prayer sessions” in which he told his victims that sex acts would prevent them from “liking females, contracting sexual diseases or becoming pregnant early.” Police, who began investigating Durant in May, said they aren’t sure how many victims Durant may have abused. The criminal behavior allegedly began in 2011. In a separate story, the grandmother of one of the alleged victims spoke to WLTX about Durant. “We thought he was really talking to the children, but find out that wasn’t the case,” she said. “All I want is justice done, that’s all. Lorna Elizabeth Tuck Colbert – the mother of Comedy Central host Stephen Colbert, along with 10 others – passed away on Wednesday. She was 92 years old. According to an obituary in South Carolina’s Post and Courier , Lorna was an artist , businesswoman and church leader. She lost her husband and two kids in a 1974 plane crash, while another child died in a separate incident, leaving her survived by her remaining eight kids, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In February of last year, Stephen Colbert took a few days leave of absence to deal with an ill Lorna, only to return and give her a subtle shout-out in his first new show back: “Evidently, having 11 children makes you tough as nails,” he said. “Confidential to a lovely lady.” We send the Colbert family our thoughts and prayers.

You know its a bad day when you can’t give coochie away! Woman Attacks Man For Not Wanting To Have Sex With Her According to The Smoking Gun Meet Amanda Cantwell. The South Carolina woman, 27, is facing a domestic violence charge after allegedly attacking her boyfriend when he refused to have sex with her. According to a Charleston Police Department report, Jeffrey Chaffin, the 33-year-old victim, told investigators that he and Cantwell had been drinking Monday evening when the trouble started. Chaffin, who has lived with Cantwell for about 18 months, told officers that she “became extremely upset when he refused to have sexual intercourse with her.” Chaffin added that Cantwell slapped him in the head, jumped on his back, and “inserted her fingers in his mouth and clawed the inside of his cheeks with her fingernails.” After getting Cantwell off his back, Chaffin dialed 911. Police responding to his call noted that they “were able to observe fresh scratches and blood inside the victim’s mouth.” When questioned about the confrontation, Cantwell acknowledged that she and Chaffin had been “drinking alcohol at their residence all day and became involved in a verbal dispute.” She claimed that she only attacked Cantwell after he began choking her. Cops, however, “did not observe any marks/redness on or around the offender’s neck.” Cantwell was arrested for criminal domestic violence and booked into the county jail. Free on bond, she is scheduled to appear in court Friday. Chaffin, who declined medical attention, told cops that he did not want to be relocated, nor was he in “fear for his safety.” SMH! Just in case you didn’t believe her the first time she said it, Viola Davis is speaking up LOUDLY about how modern cinema needs to portray black people — as something other than maids and slaves! Via Salon.com : Viola Davis, nominated for an Academy Award and Golden Globe for her role as a maid in the Civil Rights Era-set movie, “The Help,” will most likely never play a maid again. She recently told CNN, “I’m tired of that,” explaining, “Me and Octavia [Spencer], Aunjanue Ellis, Roslyn Ruff – we all played maids in ‘The Help’ and it was fabulous. It’s a fabulous story because we were personalized and all of those things, but I think that people need to see an African American in the 21st century integrated in the life of this town and family who’s not in servitude.” Except that in “Beautiful Creatures,” the book that Davis’s next movie is based upon, her character Amma is, again, a maid. She told the Hollywood Reporter that “[Director] Richard LaGravenese forbade us from reading the book. He said, “Do not touch the book.” (Naturally, Davis then got the book). “I read half of it and then I put it down because Amma is a maid, and I just said, ‘Ok, there’s nothing I can learn from this.’ ” But then LaGravenese changed the character for the film adaptation, who became a hybrid of Amma and a local librarian who has magical powers. Davis called it “a total reimagining of the character,” and said that even though it veers from the original text, the change makes sense in the greater context of the movie: “I’m going to be confident and bold and say I like it because, listen, I understand and I respect the book and I think the book is wonderful but this is 2013 and I think that when black people are woven into the lives of characters in 2013, then I think they play other roles than maids. I think that that needs to be explored and I hope that the audience is willing to suspend their disbelief and embrace what Richard LaGravenese has given them.” The movie explores the budding romance between Ethan Wate (Alden Ehrenreich) and Lena Duchaness (Alice Englert), a mysterious newcomer with supernatural powers, set in a fictional South Carolina town. South Carolina native Stephen Colbert is the top choice of Palmetto State residents to fill the U.S. Senate seat recently vacated by Jim DeMint, a new poll indicates. DeMint is stepping down to head a conservative think tank. South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley will appoint a successor to complete DeMint’s term, which ends in 2014. That November, an election will be held … but until then it’s Haley’s call alone. According to Public Policy Polling, The Colbert Report host would be the most popular appointee . Colbert has already expressed interest in the vacancy, too. The Comedy Central staple has been asking viewers to tweet at Gov. Haley, a Republican who he calls a “friend of the show,” and lobby her to appoint him. The federal government would certainly become a lot funnier overnight. Could this really happen? Probably not, though Haley’s approval ratings are way down with Democrats and independents, so a PR coup might not hurt. Just saying. Don’t act all slizzard when R. Kelly’s sanging or he may switch up the lyrics and call you out during his performance. According to TMZ … When R. Kelly saw two ladies fighting over a seat at one of his concerts … he didn’t scream for security — he SANG for security … and it was all caught on tape. Kelly was in the middle of his show at the Nokia Theater in Downtown L.A. this weekend … when he noticed two female fans getting physical in the crowd. One source tells us one woman had accused the other of stealing her seat … and they were thiiiis close to trading blows. And that’s when R. saved the day … stopping his show … and breaking out in song: “SECURITY … SEC-UR-ITY.” It’s hard to hear exactly what Kelly said after that … but he definitely barked some orders to the crowd control staff and dropped a couple of cuss words … while staying in tune. Security eventually responded to the situation and escorted one of the women out of the building … thus concluding the most beautiful ejection we’ve ever heard. According to The Root : A widely circulated foreboding message purporting to warn supporters of President Obama of an electronic voting “trick” that could exclude their vote for the president if they select only the “All Democrats” option has been debunked by the South Carolina branch of the NAACP. Still, it continues to make the rounds on Facebook and email, spreading confusion that some worry could lead voters in states that allow straight-ticket voting to remove their vote for the office of the president. “PLEASE PAY CAREFUL ATTENTION TO THIS! In the event that you are planning to vote democrat on Nov. 6, when you go into the voting booths, DO NOT SELECT THE BUTTON “all democrats” first because Barack Obama will be excluded from the vote,” a screenshot of a Facebook status attached to one email reads. It goes on to instruct voters to select “Barack Obama” first and then “all democrats” and ends with “People are not being told this information because they are trying every trick in the book.” Not true, says the South Carolina State Conference of the NAACP. The organization has issued a warning to voters: “If a South Carolina voter chooses the straight party option first on our voting machines, the selection box for all candidates of the intended political party will automatically be checked, including the presidential candidate.” The main concern raised by the message is that voters confused by the instructions may touch their presidential selection a second time, which would actually remove their vote for that office, the NAACP told WCBD-TV Charleston in October. Thus, the organization recommends that each voter review all of his or her selections made on the voting machine before pressing the final button to confirm the ballot and asks that anyone who has forwarded the misleading message to others follow up with a message of caution about the advice. South Carolina NAACP President Lonnie Randolph says that he’s not surprised that the misleading information seems to targets the types of ballots used by South Carolina voters. He attributes the effort to a long history of hostility toward African-American political power in his own state that dates back to Reconstruction. He doesn’t know who’s behind it, but he believes that it has already caused confusion, particularly among the state’s more vulnerable citizens. “That’s why we had a press conference. So many people in South Carolina already feel threatened. We have a lot of first-time voters in this election, and the machines are not the simplest thing to deal with. Folks will need some assistance, particularly elderly people,” he said. If this is, in fact, a hoax meant to confuse voters or suppress the votes of Democrats, it’s unfortunately nothing new. Just last month, Think Progress warned of misinformation campaigns, including those telling voters that they can vote by phone, that they are at risk of being purged from the rolls, that they must show identification to vote and more. Randolph told The Root that South Carolina has seen other forms of intimidation and misleading information this election cycle, including employers threatening their employees with layoffs, reduced house, and loss of health insurance if Mitt Romney is not elected, as well as recent e-mails attempting to convince voters that, as result of Hurricane Sandy, the election date has been moved.
