Exclusive: Nicki Minaj In Talks To Join Britney Spears’ Tour

Young Money MC has been a rumored front-runner since Enrique Iglesias dropped out. By Alvin Blanco Nicki Minaj Photo: MTV News NEW YORK — Nicki Minaj confirmed to MTV News that she is in talks to join Britney Spears on her upcoming tour. We caught up with the Young Money princess before she performed at Casio’s TRYX OUT: NYC 2011 Launch Party at the Best Buy Theater on Thursday night. “I am in talks of joining Britney Spears, yeah,” Minaj said in the British accent of her Martha alter-ego . “I’m in talks about a lot of things, ya know. I don’t know — oops, I did it again.” Rumors of the possibility of Minaj becoming the opening act on the singer’s tour promoting Femme Fatale began circulating shortly after Enrique Iglesias dropped out of the lineup . Nicki is currently on the Lil Wayne-headlined I Am Still Music Tour , but that concludes May 1 in East Rutherford, New Jersey, while the Spears tour is scheduled to kick off June 17 in Sacramento, California. The hectic travel schedule — Nicki is set to fly out right after the Best Buy Theater performance to rejoin the I Am Still Music Tour on Friday (April 8) in Greensboro, North Carolina — is the Queens MC’s only qualm about hitting the road. “I’m getting sick every other day,” she said. “That’s the one downside. I keep my dressing room warm, and then of course when we go out to the stage area, it’s freezing cold, and then when we do the afterparty, it’s cold. And then flying and stuff like that. That’s the only downside about touring. It’s just to keep your physical health in order. I was just recuperating from being sick last night and then we flew out here; the plane was freezing, and I think I got sick again. That’s the only downside — that’s the only one.” Would you like to see Nicki on Britney’s tour? Let us know in the comments! Related Artists Nicki Minaj Britney Spears

Britney Spears Vs. Adele: Which Brit Will Be #1?

Adele’s 21 is slated to return to the top after Femme Fatale ‘s #1 debut. By Jocelyn Vena Britney Spears’ Femme Fatale Photo: Jive It’s a catfight to the top next week on the charts. While Britney Spears ‘ Femme Fatale may have topped the charts this week, it seems that next week, she’s got some competition from the unstoppable Adele and her crossover album 21. So will the British songstress beat the Femme Fatale? “It sure looks that way,” Hits Daily Double senior editor Roy Trakin told MTV News. “And I guess it’ll mark the week that album will go over a million in sales. … [Adele’s 21 is] far and away the leading album. Same time last year, Lady Antebellum was at this place. There’s a little bit of an up-kick, and there are some solid releases coming in the future: Lady Gaga in May and Lil Wayne the week before hers.” Until then, Adele will rule the roost next week, and that means that Brit will have to settle for the second slot. “If you’ve followed the way since the SoundScan era came about, this is what we’ve been getting. You get the top release debuting, and it’s very rare that you have an album that can stay atop,” he said of Spears’ inevitable tumble. “This Adele thing is truly a phenomenon. It transcends genre, more or less, and that’s what you need to sustain that momentum on the chart. Debuts invariably [see] a 60 to 70 percent drop-off, and if it’s less than that, it’s considered a success.” Trakin does offer some advice for those artists who have more typical chart reigns than Adele: “Forget about that first week and concentrate on sustaining and keeping it steady.” Spears, of course, came of age in a time when records sold millions and stayed at the top for quite some time. So, bottom line, Spears’ fans shouldn’t worry too much about her chart reign. “I think it’s difficult to sustain a 10-year-plus career in this business,” he said. “You know, for that kind of star, I wouldn’t look at the totals as disappointing, I would just say it’s part and parcel of where the business is at this point. Certainly the days of ‘NSYNC are over. We’re not gonna see that again.” Who do you think will take the top slot next week? Let us know in the comments! Related Artists Britney Spears Adele

Robert Pattinson Says ‘Cosmopolis’ Co-Star Sarah Gadon Has ‘A Great Face’

Actor also tells MTV News about working on a ‘very specific accent’ for the David Cronenberg film. By Kara Warner, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Robert Pattinson Photo: MTV News Thanks to all the quality time MTV News has been getting with Robert Pattinson lately, via our “MTV First: Robert Pattinson” and “Water for Elephants” interviews, we’ve been able to glean a few fun details from the “Twilight” superstar about his upcoming projects, including the highly anticipated “Breaking Dawn: Part 1,” of course, as well as the slightly more mysterious “Cosmopolis.” What we know so far is that Pattinson will be directed by David Cronenberg in the role of young finance guru Eric Packer, opposite Sarah Gadon , who recently signed on to play Packer’s estranged wife. The novel is a modern reinterpretation of James Joyce’s classic “Ulysses,” set in New York in the year 2000, around the burst of the dot-com bubble. Most of the action in the book takes place over the course of one day, in the limousine Packer takes to his various errands. When MTV News caught up with Pattinson, we asked him for his thoughts on his new co-star. “I’ve seen a couple of things she’s done. She’s really good,” Pattinson said of Gadon. “She has a great face. … I haven’t talked to her yet, but I think it’s going to be a great cast.” Regarding other prep work he’s doing before filming begins sometime next month, Pattinson is getting some voice coaching. “I’m working with a dialect coach now. There’s this very specific accent,” he said. “And yeah, just sort of various sort of things.” For those unfamiliar with Gadon, a 23-year-old Toronto native, she most recently worked with Cronenberg in his “A Dangerous Method” and has a slew of TV credits to her name, including the SOAP Net series “Being Erica” and ABC’s “Happy Town.” For young Hollywood news, fashion and “Twilight” updates around the clock, visit HollywoodCrush.MTV.com . Britney Spears’ ‘Till The World Ends’ Video Nods To ‘Slave 4 U’

Latest clip reminds us of her 2001 smash — and it’s not the first time the pop superstar has sampled her own video catalog. By Christina Garibaldi Britney Spears in “Til The Word Ends” Photo: Jive With Wednesday’s release of Britney Spears’ new video for “Till the World Ends,” the pop diva showed she can dance her way through anything — even an apocalypse. Now, although “Till the World Ends” takes place in the future, it’s hard to watch it without feeling transported to the past. The edgy look, steamy scenes and pulsating dance moves take us back to Spears’ 2001 hit “Slave 4 U.” Some of the key elements of “Till the World Ends” mirror “Slave,” from the videos’ sweaty dance scenes to the sexy wardrobe changes to an almost identical scene in which Britney sits among a group of sultry dancers. And this isn’t the first time the princess of pop has paid homage to herself. Spears’ over-the-top videos have typically featured some distinct elements: memorable story lines (“Toxic”), standout choreography (“Oops! … I Did It Again”) and midriff-bearing outfits (“I’m Not A Girl, Not Yet A Woman”). So we can’t say we blame her for looking back. In 2008, Spears released her video for “Womanizer,” which gave us a case of d

Britney Spears Opens Up About Marriage, Kids

Pop star tells Us Weekly that boyfriend Jason Trawick ‘makes me laugh, and we are so comfortable being ourselves.’ By Jocelyn Vena Britney Spears and Jason Trawick Photo: Lester Cohen/WireImage On Wednesday (April 6), Britney Spears released her “Till the World Ends” video , a fun party clip that harkens back to the ” Slave 4 U ” era. While she might have come full-circle creatively, in the new issue of Us Weekly, the pop superstar admits she’s not the girl she used to be. “I’m at such a different point in my life now than I was back then,” she said of recording Femme Fatale, which shot to the top of the charts in its first week. “I’m more mature and much more hands-on now. I know exactly what I like and what I don’t like. I guess that can make the recording process pretty difficult, because I’m very particular about songs I put my voice on.” That perspective comes from years in the spotlight, as well as the responsibility of being a mom to her two sons, Jayden and Sean. “You have to think about all your decisions so much more carefully, because they are affecting your kids too,” she said. “My priorities have changed, and I do everything for [the boys]. They remind me what life is really all about. “They are my biggest fans. I make up songs and sing to them all the time,” she continued. “They like to watch me dance. In fact, they join in and do their own moves!” While her opening act is still in flux, Spears does know that both Jayden and Sean will be hitting the road with her for her Till the World Ends Tour . “They will be coming with me. I couldn’t go on tour without them!” she said. “I’m always very busy when I’m on the road, but I make sure to have quality time with them every single day.” Another one of her big fans is boyfriend Jason Trawick, whom she says complements her perfectly. “We have such a great time together! He makes me laugh, and we are so comfortable being ourselves. We like to stay home, order in, watch movies, go to dinner with friends. And we love getting away for the weekend. Some of our favorite spots are Las Vegas, Hawaii or Mexico.” With two marriages already under her belt, would Spears get married again? “Maybe,” she teased. “Never say never!” Related Videos Britney Spears: I Am The Femme Fatale Related Photos Candid Moments From ‘Britney Spears: I Am The Femme Fatale’ Related Artists Britney Spears

Britney Spears To Release Two ‘Till The World Ends’ Videos

A director’s cut and a choreography cut of the video will both be released. By Jocelyn Vena Britney Spears Photo: MTV News & Docs Who needs one “Till the World Ends” video when you can have two? Well, it seems that Britney Spears’ fans will get just that. JustJared.com reports that the singer will release two videos for her second single from Femme Fatale. According to the site, “The director’s cut will have more of an apocalyptic story line while the choreography cut will have the unabridged version of Britney’s dance moves.” The video was directed by Ray Kay and shot in Los Angeles last month. The video features Spears in sexy, body-hugging clothes getting sweaty with her dancers. “The set was a little much. It was grimy and gross and it felt like there was poop everywhere when there wasn’t,” she recalled in Sunday’s MTV special “Britney Spears: I Am the Femme Fatale.” “It was sweat and it was disgusting sometimes … [I] tough it out,” she laughed. In the video sneak peek featured in the special, Spears opted to change out of her sexy heels to dance in more practical Uggs. “It hurts … but it looks good,” she explained. “It wasn’t a full-length shot, so a girl’s about comfort when it’s not showing.” She later added, “It was a lot of fun. I had never worked with Ray Kay before. I was really happy with the work we did.” Spears’ “Till The World Ends” songwriter, Ke$ha , opened up to People.com about how she’d like to hang out with the pop star now that they’ve worked on a hit pop song together. “Skinny dipping. It would be a dress-up-like-Ke$ha-or-Britney party. Either her place or my place, it doesn’t matter,” the “Blow” singer said, describing their perfect hang-out. “I have a small, salt-water pool [at my house in Nashville] that has laser beams in it and a stereo so you can be underwater listening to music.” Are you excited for two “Till the World Ends” videos? Britney Spears Talks Filming ‘Grimy’ ‘Till The World Ends’ Video

Singer opens up about the Ray Kay-directed video in ‘I Am the Femme Fatale’ MTV special. By Jocelyn Vena, with additional reporting by Sway Calloway Britney Spears Photo: MTV News & Docs Britney Spears took fans behind the scenes on her music video shoot for her second Femme Fatale single, “Till the World Ends,” in her MTV special, “Britney Spears: I Am the Femme Fatale.” The video was shot in a dank basement somewhere in Los Angeles. Spears and her dancers don rocking post-apocalyptic black clothing, with Spears dancing around in a studded black leather jacket and a sexy black bodysuit. In the special, Spears is seen watching the playback on the Ray Kay-directed video. “[I watched it] just to make sure it’s right and that the costume looks right and the dancers are together and we all look in unison,” she explained. “It’s an energy and it looks fresh. It has a certain vibe with it and it makes sense.” This marks nearly the 40th music video Spears has made in her career. And these days, she says she is just looking to have a good time. When asked if she feels she needs to top herself with every project, she responded, “Not really. I feel like I’ve made so many videos that I’m at the point that I genuinely want to enjoy myself, and I have such a good team of people with me … we just have fun.” As much fun as shooting a video can be, it’s also a lot of work. At one point during the making of “Till the World Ends,” Spears wanted nothing more than a quick break. “The set was a little much. It was grimy and gross and it felt like there was poop everywhere when there wasn’t,” she recalled. “It was sweat and it was disgusting sometimes … [I] tough it out,” she laughed. Another sticking point during the shoot was the discomfort Spears felt while dancing around in heels. “It hurts … but it looks good,” she said, adding that sometimes she changes into Uggs. “It wasn’t a full-length shot, so a girl’s about comfort when it’s not showing.” At the end of the day though, the video was a lot more fun than work to shoot. “It was a lot of fun. I had never worked with Ray Kay before. I was really happy with the work we did,” she said.
