Snooki on Vinny Guadagnino Banging: Such Regret

Snooki is piling up a pretty long list of Jersey Shore regrets. We’ve already seen her get so hammered she stumbled around asking ” where’s the f*%king beach ” when the OCEAN was right behind her. That’s bad. The latest do-over she wishes she had is simpler and somewhat less embarrassing. Given a second chance, she wouldn’t have let Vinny “get it in.” Snooki and Vinny Guadagnino in Miami. “I kind of wish me and Vinny didn’t try and have sex, because it was just drama this whole season,” she said Thursday on Sirius radio’s Morning Mash Up. The fallout lasted until the current season. “I don’t know, it was just very awkward between us. I felt stupid because, you’ll see, it’s just embarrassing.” Vinny, she guessed, might also wish it had never happened. “I think he would say that because I got feelings,” she said of their No Strings Attached -style arrangement, which didn’t pan out quite as they’d hoped. But all is well that ends well. While Vinny Guadagnino is bringing home other women on the current season of Shore, Snooki has a man to call her own. “I’m so glad that I met him because he’s so down to Earth,” she says of her camera-shy boyfriend Jionni LaValle. “I met his family, they’re great.” His lack of interest in the spotlight is perfect for Snooki, too: “I don’t know if [guys] are here for me, or … because they want to be on the show.” Very wise. Now if she would just learn how to write a check .

Lady Gaga’s ‘Born This Way’ Leads New Era Of Outcast Anthems

Taking cues from Frank Zappa, the Ramones and Nirvana, Gaga carries the torch for the outsider in pop music. By James Montgomery Lady Gaga Photo: Ethan Miller/ Getty Images In the 1970s, when disco was in full swing and rock and roll was posturing its way into arenas, four goony, glue-sniffing kids in Forest Hills, Queens, threw on leather jackets and began bashing out two-minute tunes with titles like “Blitzkrieg Bop” and “Beat on the Brat.” They called themselves the Ramones, and not only were they probably the first punk band on planet Earth, but they were most definitely outcasts, in every sense of the world. Of course, the Ramones certainly weren’t the first musical outcasts. Theirs is a legacy that reaches all the way back to the dawn of recorded music, from the likes of the Hoosier Hot Shots and Slim Galliard, scatting madman Cab Calloway and the “shocking” Screamin’ Jay Hawkins, to midcentury curios like bizarro bandleader Spike Jones, deep-fried ’60s oddballs like Frank Zappa and Captain Beefheart and even contemporaries like the Cramps and the Talking Heads. But unlike any who came before them, the Ramones helped usher in an era — and a genre — in which being odd was championed. It would continue through the 1980s, thanks to the Heads, West Coast punk acts like Black Flag and the Minutemen, and college-radio darlings like R.E.M. — and, of course, the eternally outcast world of heavy metal — then truly break through in the ’90s, with the chart-topping success of Nirvana, Pearl Jam and the Smashing Pumpkins, and the rise of hip-hop outfits like the Wu-Tang Clan, the Pharcyde and the incomparable Kool Keith. Of course, in the 2000s, things sort of petered out. Rock and hip hop became increasingly lunkheaded and lumbering, and the meek were shoved from the spotlight. And it bears mention that, even during the outcast heyday, for the most part, established acts — i.e., anyone who had plenty to lose — stayed as far removed from the fringe as possible, or if they dared stray outside their lane, they suffered the consequences (the classic example being, of course, Madonna, who nearly submarined her entire career with the simultaneous release of the Erotica album and its accompaniment, the coffee-table book “Sex”). There’s a reason it’s called “popular” music, after all. These days, however, things appear to be changing. For the first time, established pop megastars are embracing those on the fringes of society — and finding success in the process. It all started, appropriately enough, with the rise of Lady Gaga , who made no bones about the fact that her earliest support came from the gay community, and over the past year, through videos like “Alejandro” and her campaign against “don’t ask, don’t tell,” she has become the outcast icon of our time. Others followed suit — like Pink, who scored hits with underdog anthems like “Raise Your Glass” and “F***** Perfect” ; Ke$ha, whose “We R Who We R” went to #1 on the Billboard Hot 100; and even Katy Perry, who dedicated her “Firework” video to the “It Gets Better” campaign — and it truly seems that, for the first time since the 1990s, being an outcast was not only acceptable, it was downright mainstream. Now, Gaga is poised to return with “Born This Way,” the first single from her album of the same name. On Thursday, she released the song’s lyrics , and if it’s not already the biggest outcast anthem of all time, well, then it probably will be very soon. In fact, there’s nary an outsider group Gaga doesn’t mention in the song — gays, bisexuals, transgenders, ethnic minorities, the disabled, the bullied, the poor — which makes it, and its near-inevitable chart success, incredibly noteworthy. After all, here is Lady Gaga, currently the biggest artist on the planet, releasing a song that not only calls for acceptance of all people, but drags those who aim to oppress directly into the center of the ring. It is not only fierce, it’s downright fearless. Gaga has plenty to lose, but she couldn’t care less. And perhaps “Born This Way” is just the byproduct of the era in which we live, a time when social mores are constantly debated, when boundaries are being expanded and contracted, almost daily, and when it truly seems possible that maybe — just maybe — the outcasts could inherit the earth. After all, Bill Gates was an outcast, Barack Obama was too — and look how things worked out for them. And while this may put the fear of God in some folks, it seems that change is inevitable, and, as it is wont to do, pop music is there to provide the soundtrack to all of that change. Just like in the 1960s, when the biggest rock and folk acts of the day led the charge for social rebellion, so too may Lady Gaga. And she’ll do it on the biggest stage imaginable. Of course, that might just be speculation, but it’s certainly been a long time coming. What is your favorite outcast anthem? Let us know in the comments! Oscar Nominee James Franco Set To Direct ‘As I Lay Dying’

The ‘127 Hours’ star and Oscar host tells MTV News he’ll helm movie based on William Faulkner’s novel this summer. By Aly Semigran James Franco Photo: MTV News James Franco may very well be Hollywood’s ultimate Renaissance Man. In addition to his already busy 2011 schedule, which includes attending the 83rd Annual Academy Awards, both as first-time host and Best Actor nominee (for “127 Hours”) , the actor/writer/ student will also tackle directing duties. Over the weekend, MTV News managed to catch a minute with Franco at the Sundance Film Festival , where he revealed to us yet another impressive future endeavor. The star spilled, “This summer I’m going to direct a movie based on William Faulkner’s novel ‘As I Lay Dying.’ ” Franco, who has in the past done some work behind the camera, explained, “I shoot a test of the whole movie before I make a movie. So we just shot a test.” Despite working from a lengthy script (160 pages, to be exact), Franco did an entire pre-shoot with actors in North Carolina on New Year’s Day. And in keeping with his already unorthodox methods, the 32-year-old noted that the actors he used for the test filming, won’t necessarily be the ones he works with on the final product. While Franco says he “might” appear in his adaptation of “As I Lay Dying,” he has his sights set on his favorite actor, “Boardwalk Empire” and “Revolutionary Road” star Michael Shannon, whom he has worked with twice before. The cast already includes Paul Dano (“Little Miss Sunshine,” “There Will Be Blood”) and, if all works out for Franco, Richard Jenkins (“The Visitor,” “Six Feet Under”) and Joaquin Phoenix will be onboard as well. Panic! At The Disco Say Vices & Virtues Is ‘All Over The Place’

Band just shot video for ‘The Ballad of Mona Lisa,’ the first single from March album. By James Montgomery Panic! at the Disco’s Brendon Urie and Spencer Smith Photo: Jennifer Tzar/ Atlantic Records The last time MTV News spoke with Panic! At The Disco , Brendon Urie and Spencer Smith had just premiered “New Perspective,” a song they’d written for the Megan Fox horror flick “Jennifer’s Body.” They were fresh off a run of shows opening for Blink-182 and only two months removed from the departure of Ryan Ross and Jon Walker , who were still 10 months away from releasing their first album as the Young Veins . So, yeah, it’s been a while. But in recent weeks, Panic! have slowly begun edging their way back into the spotlight. They’ve announced plans for a new album — Vices & Virtues, due March 29 — and unveiled the first single from that disc, “The Ballad of Mona Lisa,” which drops February 1. And they’ve just filmed a video for the song, directed by longtime collaborator Shane C. Drake. MTV News was on location with the band during the shoot, and while we can’t reveal any details just yet, we did manage to ask Urie and Smith a bit about the single and the album, both of which, it would seem, are rather intrinsically linked. “Basically, all of the songs, including ‘Mona Lisa,’ kind of touch on what the album is called … it’s called Vices & Virtues, and in one way or the other, at least one to 10 virtues or vices are represented in every song,” Urie said. “[It’s] little minor things I didn’t know were vices or virtues, until we looked them up. I was like, ‘I don’t know what altruism means, so I’ll look that up.’ Things like logic, pride, vanity — it can go either way. So it was kind of interesting to read about that. “And it just made sense, because all the songs [on the album] are so all over the place,” he continued. “They don’t sound anything like each other, and it’s like, ‘How does this all tie together?’ and then it kind of made sense. It was kind of lucky.” And though Vices is a musical grab bag, Panic! couldn’t have made the album any other way, and they’re pretty sure fans will be happy with the results — especially fans clamoring for a return to their A Fever You Can’t Sweat Out heyday. “We’ve been working on music for about a year and a half, so I think that partly adds to why some of the songs have some varying styles,” Smith said. “Part of it was us, at the beginning, trying to figure out what we wanted to do — we had a new opportunity with just the two of us — and as we sort of got a better hold on what that was, just kind of went from there. … I think there’s stuff from the first album that we kind of got away from on the second record that people who were fans of the first one will enjoy.” Are you happy to hear that Panic! will hark back to their Fever days? Bangers: Keisha Knight Pulliam Talks About Relationships…”I Don’t Know If There Is A Lack Of Good Black Men”

Lil banger Keisha Knight Pulliam recently shared her thoughts on dating, good men, and relationships: Since you were in the spotlight at such an early age, was it difficult dating and trusting guys who were really into you and not just hanging on because of what you’ve achieved? Sometimes you get people who just want to hang around because of what I’ve done. But as you get older, dating is about finding the diamond in the rough. God made me so I’m sure he made my counterpart. I’m patient. Until it’s time, I want to work on me and we will meet when we are supposed to. You see so much information about there not being enough available black men for women. From your experience, do you think that is true or is it something being perpetuated by the media? I don’t know if there is a lack of good men. But when you haven’t taken the time to know yourself and articulate what you want in a relationship, you can’t possible find that person for you because you don’t know what you’re looking for. Most times, if you don’t have yourself together, it’s not going to work. What’s the best way for women to approach relationships? The best thing is to be who you are. At times, people try to be who they think the other person wants them to be. And if that’s the case, that’s not the person for you. You should be able to be exactly who you are. You have to love yourself first. You can’t love anyone more than you love yourself. And you should have fun. I would rather laugh and enjoy myself than fight all of the time. You can articulate your point without arguing. Relationships should not be a struggle. When you’re constantly fighting, you should just keep it moving. Source

ChitChatter: Jeremih Speaks On Chelsea Handler, Ciara…And Isn’t Feelin Nicki Minaj

Jeremih sure is an opinionated fellow: Did 50 call when the photo of you and Chelsea Handler hit the Internet? He just laughed. It was no big deal, it was just a picture. I talked to 50 beforehand, and told him that I was just coming to meet her. I can’t help what the people/blogs say—that’s their job to create stories. Chelsea is cool as hell and it was nothing more than that. Being a male R&B artist these days also means having to be a sex symbol, but you haven’t really been romantically linked to anyone. Based off your music, I can see you leaning towards Keri Hilson or like a Ciara… Actually, I’ve always been a fan of Ciara, not that I’m not of Keri. But I watched the “Ride” video like ten times the first day [laughs]. She probably kept the whole budget from that video because there wasn’t much to it. It was her—very simple, very sexy. She to me is like the modern day Janet Jackson but on another level. Keri Hilson I have always been a fan of hers, too. What about Nicki? She’s killing it right now. When I look for a woman, I look for one that’s real—that’s keeping it 100. I rather someone know that they’re sexy and not show it. Nothing against Nicki Minaj, I think she’s a dope lyricist and her body is perfect, along with a dope personality. But I’m more into a woman who’s not so much into the spotlight. A lady that knows she’s fine and sexy but doesn’t really have to show it off. Nicki Minaj is cool, Ciara is more of a conservative, she knows she’s sexy and the way she carries herself probably is more of what I would lean towards. So what else can we look forward to from you this year? I’m scheduled to go overseas on another European tour. But this year I definitely look forward to taking my career to the next level and keep expanding my brand, whether it’s movies or merchandising. After talking to 50, I’ve learned that’s the key to this. When are we going to hear something with you and your Chi-Town brethren Kanye and Common? [Laughs] Man, I can only hope it’s real soon. Have you had the chance to meet Kanye? I’ve met just about everyone on Def Jam except Kanye West and Mariah Carey. When College Dropout came out I was so inspired. I think that’s his best album to date, even though I’m a fan of his latest work and all his albums. I had a lot of hip-hop style sampled beats back in the day and people would come through my apartment and say ‘you need to hook up with Kanye.’ I heard that a lot. I look forward to the day I can meet with him, hopefully even collab. Do it for the Chi! Via Vibe.com
